glaucomflecken: I love your dress! It's so simple and elegant.

I'm still in the process of looking for a dress - I must have tried on 30 or so and still haven't found the one! Does anyone have this problem?!!!

My mom seems loves dresses with lace, I like lace but it's not my first choice. My first dress that I actually liked is a v-neck silk satin dress with beading on the v neck on front and back from Marisa. My mom actually loved a Monique Lhuillier that I tried on, with a lace jacket but it's waaay out of my budget. Eventually she liked the crinkle chiffon dress from Marisa.

Monique Lhuillier:

Marisa Crinkle Chiffon:

Now I'm confused....I love all these different dresses but don't know what to do!

Darn, that picture is too small....will try and upload a bigger picture.

everyone's dream dresses are so fabulous!!!

one comment, feel like I have to chime in and say that modog's comments to me did not seem aimed to be rude but rather her own experiences from filming weddings, and rather realistic I would imagine. not everyone will look great in one dress or another, but i agree with whoever said that the best thing to do is to try them on and see!

when i was looking around, i purposefully did not fall in love with any one dress (okay so i did but it was a 17k badgley mischka which was soooo not happening ever in my lifetime unless i won the lotto) because i wouldn't know what it looked like on me until i tried it on. also i was very realistic about my body and shape and structure...while in general i think alot of brides kind of 'blank out' on things like that when it comes to something as magical as a wedding dress. aka if you would never wear pleats on pants in reality, why would you add something big and pouffy to your hips in a w-dress?? (not to anyone in particular, just in general!)

i visited a bunch of bridal salons and saw a bunch of gals trying on tons of dresses...myself included. of course i hated 99% of what i put on, but there were some other gals there trying on dresses that did not work with their body shape, but it was their idea of a fabulous wedding gown so they were forcing that image in their mind.

i love the princess pouffy dress styles but it was SOOO not happening on me. i have a hilarious picture i ever only showed Greg to show how SO not me that dress was. i also tried on a fabulous dress that i never would have imagined would look great on me but it DID. of course it was about $1500 more than i wanted to spend so i didn't get it, but i was shocked at how i never would have chosen that style but yet it looked great!

this may sound odd but my main concern was that i look good in whatever dress i chose...which is why i was not married to any particular style in general, i just wanted to look amazing on my wedding day. so i chose the dress that best fit that bill in my mind (that was within budget!).

in the end i went with something that worked on my body and shape and it was great, but for me it was never about the dress itself, but rather the dress just being one more element in a beautiful day. the cool thing about my dress was that when i was trying it on, all the other people there were saying how great it looked, and then i bought the sample because the salesgal said that it had hardly been tried on because not many people were able to wear that style (it was a simple silk/chiffon flowing sheath with a small train). so i felt as though i had chosen well for my body structure.

so there are alot of points here... i hate posting so friggin late because i ramble but i totally agree with trying items on and keeping an open mind about what looks good on your body structure.
and if you try your dream fantasy dress on and it doesn't look quite right, listen to your instincts and keep looking! there IS a dress out there for everyone!!! and some fabulous wedding jewelry too...hehee.

Luckyhonu - Both of thos dressses are SOOO beautiful. I love the Monique L'huillier, but I completely understand that its a little pricey! Simply stunning though. T

he Marisa is also really beautiful- simple and pretty. Edit- It is the same dress that stellamarina has, back on page 14, is it not??

MelissaSue: You know, you''re right about that- that IS StellaMarina''s dress! I am not really a strapless dress person but when I tried on that Marisa, it was pretty and beaded. Obviously the Monique Lhuillier is out of my budget but Marisa makes the same one but a lot less spendy. However, I''m not sure how practical that lace jacket is either because I''ll be getting married in a garden ceremony in Hawaii. Here''s a picture of the Marisa V neck I''ve been eyeing. I actually posted this before in this thread but for reference sake, so as you can see, the two styles I''m considering are really different!

Here''s mine! The only difference is mine is the version with straps and is a light ivory. I love it.... must have tried on over 60 dresses but I knew this was the ONE. :) yay!

OH .. MY... GOD.. LOVEY.. that dress.. is the most gorgeous thing I''ve ever seen. By your file name.. I''m assuming its a Romona Keveza? WOW.. Are you gonna show us pics of it on you?!

Mara - your post was, as usual. to the point and elegant. I think your perspective is bang on.

Thanks Gale...

Having been there and done that, figured I''d try to throw in some perspective on wedding dress searching from my own experience...for whatever it is worth!

Lovey that dress is beautiful, I love the lace edging..very elegant.

That looks like an image from this one website, I cannot recall the name any longer but it sold discount brand name dresses, aka like samples from bridal stores, at huge discounts. They also had an eBay store...

They had amazing beautiful dresses at such affordable prices on this site. I loved this one gown by Reem Acra which retailed for $4k, but they were selling for $1500! Also they had a Richard Tyler gown that I LOVED LOVED LOVED on the model and was drooling over it for months before it ever went on this site, retail was something like $5k and they were selling it for I think $2k. I was amazed that one of the dresses I adored was on this site!

I posted about that RT dress in the Brides area while back, loved it but it looked almost like a slip..too clingy..but loved it. That was such a hard dress to walk away from!

Lovey,
Your dress is amazing, so pretty and elegant. I love every detail of it. Yay for you!!!

thanks for asking Melissa Sue, yes it is a Romona Keveza design. It was a sample dress that happens to be in excellent condition. Here''s a dorky pic of me trying it on for the first time. I''m in 4 inch heels (trying to keep it off the ground in the front and not step on the beads) so I think I look a bit awkward. oh well

lovey in the sample image it doesn''t have straps...did you have them put on or was it an option to remove etc?

very nice, love that bottom detailing! it looks great on you as well!

Mara- the dress came with straps....but I am thinking of possibly having them removed. Bringing it to a seamstress on Monday. to find out what is possible design-wise. Also thinking of adding an ivory ribbon sash/brooch thingy just under the lace on the empire waist...

I think it would look fabulous without straps!!

lovey, your dress is gorgeous!!

Ladies, I have just had a quick run through this whole thread, and the dresses that you have picked are all so very lovely. WOW is all I have to say. Makes me somewhat think I should go for something like one of these beauties, as FI would like, but our plans already far outstrip what I would prefer to see in a small wedding (I''m thinking JP, he''s thinking destination involving a crowd).

lovey - that''s gorgeous!

and you look lovely!!! congrats on finding *the* dress!!!!! yyayaya!

Ohh Lovey, the dress is beautiful, you look beautiful! It''s all around beautiful! One problem though....we can''t see your Leon masterpiece on your left hand! You have to stand showing your left side next time! LOL.

Seriously though....you can tell by the look on your face that it''s *the* one. Congrats! :)

lovey- the dress is beautiful on you. It looks great with the straps and without.. that fabric looks absolutely DEVINE! Its fantastic that you got it for a bargain as a sample. Its just fantastic! The lace at the bottom is just so perfect. And you look fantastic and happy to be wearing it! Have I mentioned how much i love lace??

I was on the knot this afternoon and I saw this GORGEOUS bride with a beauteous dress. I have to post her here.. because its totally how I want to look on my wedding day.. Her dress was actually posted on this thread already. I don''t remember who posted it.. but someone was suggesting it for Reena (WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO REENA?!!?!

)

Well anyway here are some of her pics.

Oh my gosh. isn''t she so pretty?? I love the whole look.. the mermaidy dress with the long veil.. oooh. I could look at these pics all day..

This is the model dress picture. Diamond Bride Style 429 (It looks better on the bride than on the model, no doubt!)

Hmm. I guess Lovey''s dress sort of reminds me of this one.

LOVING all the lace!! MS, that dress is so pretty! (I''ve wondered the same re: Reena!)

LOVEY! That dress is perfect. I love how all of you gals seem to have found the perfect dress for YOU! It is pretty both with and without straps....let us know what the seamstress says. That lace at the hem is so pertty--and I think the idea of an empire sash thing would be GORGEOUS! Yay sample sales!

Hi everyone - I''m still here
1.gif

Everyone''s dresses are so lovely...It''s so much fun to see all the different styles.

Lovey - WOW your gown is so beautiful, and looks perfect on you!

MS - That bride is truly stunning - that''s how I want to look on my wedding day too! My dress (I think it''s posted way back on page 3 or 4 of this thread) has that mermaidy thing going on, but not quite as va-va-voom. It''s more of a trumpet shape.

Mara - your comments are right-on. I totally agree that it''s more about how the dress fits your body and makes you feel than sticking to a specific style. You have to try on lots of different styles to know what looks/feels best. For me the fabric and workmanship of my dress just makes me feel beautiful.

sparkler - Your dress is absolutely stunning. I just went back and found it (its actually on page 8.. if anyone is wondering). It is very similar to the bride in the pics I found.. My BM dress for my best friends wedding is actually sort of trumpet-y.. but its not as fitted through the hips as most trumpet skirts.. but it does do the thing where it flares out at the bottom. It was hard to tell that it was until it was shortened properly but now it looks really cute!. I really like it..

YipEEee!!!

It finally came in! The day they were supposed to deliver the dress, I couldn''t be at home to receive the package so I had left specific instructions with my brother that they would be delivering my dress that day and that he HAD to be sure to receive it. I called him thru out the day to see if it came yet and he told me no. So when I finally got home at 6pm, I was hoping that it had come by then, only to find the lil UPS sticky at my door saying they had missed us.
33.gif
HOW??? My brother''s room faces the entry of the house and I still have no idea how he could have missed anyone coming to the door, unless the UPS dude tip-toed his way across his window! Anyways, I had a fit with him to make sure he got the package the next day.

When I finally got the box, I wanted to try on the dress right away! But as I was putting it on...I found out you can''t wear a corset-type dress without help!
26.gif
Good thing my sister was on her way to my place otherwise I was going to be stuck with this dress over my head! At least this will prevent me from trying on my dress everyday!
17.gif

It''s even more beautiful than when I had tried it on to order it! It sparkles like crazy and makes me feel like a total princess! I won''t even have to get any alterations except the bustle made.

It''s a sigh of relief to have the dress here. Now if we can only get the invites ordered! Time is slowly ticking away...less than 3 months to go now.
