I believe it is red silk with gold thread embroidery of a pair of dragon and phoenix. I have to double check to make sure that it is real silk. It actually very traditional looking, but I love the embroidery (it is done by hand) since I haven''t seen anything quite like it before. I didn''t want brocade because I think it was too common. Although I did see a soft gold brocade fabric and a red lace with gold accents that I like that were close second choices. I am so excited.

These dresses are beautiful!  I love them all!

I was one of those girls who decided I would NOT wear a huge white dress for my wedding, but alas I was dragged to David''s Bridal to at least get an idea for what "style" might look good on me... and of course left with a large white dress!! I don''t have a picture of me wearing it (my mom''s camera died before the "one") but I pulled some photos from the DB website. Here is it! I love the simplicity of it. I seriously knew it was right when I put it on.

Unfortunatly, I stretch to a whole 5''4" WITH shoes, so a lot of the length will have to go...

I can''t seem to be able to post the pic of my fiance''s dress, but here''s the link to it on the designer''s website: The Dress

I think she''s getting her cheongsam in LA''s Chinatown. My mom and aunt are trying to get her to get one covered in sequins.

Where in LA Chinatown is your FI getting her cheongsam? I haven''t find a place I like in LA yet.

There''s this one shopping center that''s actually a bunch of centers connected to each other with this outdoor section in the middle. We''ve just been walking around and looking at all the different dresses. I''m sorry I can''t remember the street right now, but if you know Chinatown, you can probably figure it out.

She''s getting her bridesmaid dresses there too. Cheongsam''s too. White/lavendar sleeveless ones. Cost is about $15 each. We figure we''ll buy the dresses for the bridesmaids and they can serve as the gifts. :D

codex- are you talking about the ''flea market'' place in LA chinatown? They sell a lot of random touristy stuff and dozens of stands?

qtiekiki- tell me how your cheongsam turns out. I think the place codex is talking about only sells premade dresses. It''s right in LA Chinatown, you exit Hill St or something, off the 210?? i think?? ANyhow, its jsut down the street from the main complex w/the Chinatown gates, you can probably ask around, I can''t remember exact street names. But they have tons of stuff for cheap. You might be able to find something for around 50-100 (? totally guessing)but maybe not the best silk, ya know? And, of course, not custom. They sell prom like dresses there too... something to look at for western style bm dresses?!! I dunnos.

flopkins - I will keep u updated with mines. I can''t fit any premade one since I am not proportional, but I didn''t find any place with lots of cheongsam when I was first looking for them back in Jan. I just wanna know where everyone are getting theirs. I don''t remember if you said you are wearing one or not. If you are, have to start looking for one yet??

Hey - thats a really nice thought, but I don''t think that you should necessarily get her wedding dress as a surprise. Many women like picking their own out - its a whole experience with mother, friends, sisters, etc... Also, a lot of women don''t want their FI to see their dress before the wedding day.

One thought - if your fiancee is OK with you seeing the dress before the wedding, you could offer to take her shopping and get anything she wants. I know I would love that!

On the other hand, if she doesn''t want you to see the dress, maybe you could get her something else wedding-related as a surprise, or just offer to pay for the dress once she has selected her dream dress. There are a lot of sweet wedding-related surprises you could try - maybe a special dessert or food dish you know she loves, or a spa day for her and the girls the day before, or some beautiful jewelry to wear on the wedding day, or...you get the idea. There are tons of things you could do.

Hope that helps!!

codex--

The chinese dresses are only 15/each!? Are they well made and do they fit all the BMs? I know sometimes you have to have a certain type of body to wear those dresses cuz they don''t stretch at all.. for sure. I heard that if they aren''t well made then when you bend over the seams will rip? (which would make for an interesting reception) I''m not trying to be negative I''m just wondering if you''ve tested them out because I think buying the dresses and giving them as gifts is a great idea!

They're pre-made. They seem to fit ok. My fiancee, my mom, and my aunt all tried various ones on. None of them have the same body type (not all skinny... ok, none are really that skinny anymore). Looked good on all of them. You can probably alter them a little (according to my mom). Just can't make drastic changes to them cuz there isn't enough excess fabric. If your body is REALLY disproportional in one area, I suppose it may not fit.

The fancier pre-made ones don't seem to adjust to different body types as well as teh cheap ones. For the bride, you might have to go with a custom if you don't within the general typical asian female body type.

They're not Nordstrom quality. I mean, it's $15 each. But it'll last through one night for sure and they sure are purty. But yeah, the slit goes a bit high up the side. Make sure to try one on and test it so that the size you tried on isn't gonna rip or show more than you intend.

Sorry to bump up an old and seemingly dead thread but I'm a brand new pre-wife and very excited about dress shopping and the fact that I am now on this thread "legally" and i am totally jonesin' on this Monique Lhuillier dress!!!

oooohh, Ginger, that is DREAMY!!!! And will match your Leon very well

Ginger, you simply have good taste all around! lol. Love the dress. Blue is right....it will go well with a Leon ring. hehe.

FYI....you''re not digging up an old thread. Actually, I was thinking of bumping it for the newbies. That & to add Renee Zell''s dress. Loved her dress as well. hehe.

I was thinking of bumping this thread up today too!! Its like my favorite thread! (Since the original Anxious to Get the E-ring threads, at least!)

Ginger - That dress is AMAZING.. as are most Monique L''huillier dresses! And you, being the beautiful person that you are will look STUNNING in it!

Ginger, that dress is gorgeous. I love ML.

thanks ladies! I saw the dress before I saw the ring and my heart went pitter patter! I would loooove love love to have this dress but besides the whole monique is tres expensive...do ya''ll think its to evening dressy and not enough weddingy dressy?

Blueroses - lol...i thought of that too...i think it will match my ring vey well!!

noonersmom - ooooh...I haven''t seen her dress! post it! post it!

Ginger - I think it looks wedding dress-y.. but you need to go try on some similar dresses. I thought I liked dresses like that when I saw them in pictures.. but when I put them on they just seemed super BORING.. and not at all bridal. But some girls look fantastic in them and look totally bridal... You just have to try them on and see how you feel about them!

THis is the DREss to be! Im getting married at a resort in the MAyan Rivera and wanted somthing flowy and light. I would have never picked this dress out because I like things very detailed and elaborate, but I tried it on and it was perfect. It made my hour glass shape work, and it was so light.. perfect for the hot weather in MExico!
The picture doesnt do the dress justice.
IF any one has seen a model pic of this dress i would love to see it.
Ciao

You ladies are so lucky that you can display pictures of your gown! I am SO jealous!!!

My gown is a frankenstein of two dresses, and one isn''t even in pictures... I had asked the designer to custom make my dress to suit me better. The top of one and the bottom of another, and less beadwork on the bottom, etc... I wanted simple, elegant, and something I could stand to look at in 20 years...

So my gown was order in October or so...I am STILL waiting for it to arrive. June 2nd is my first fitting and I want to see the dress SOMEWHERE in SOME picture, to remind myself of why I spent a ridiculous amount of money on a dress i can only wear once in my life... Can anyone draw???!!!!

On the up side, I got a second gown for my second ceremony, so it''s pretty sexy, except for the fact that I am so not in shape and it''s really hard to hide...
Need abs and arm workout tips, IMMEDIATELY!!!
