Nan just called and is just on her way to the hospital now. Will give an update as I get it. They had to give him some blood and are giving blood pressure medicine. Also they did more blood cultures, and the infectious disease team is involved, so hopefully all will get worked out. There was a problem in that they had to wait a long time for the blood and the medicines. I hope this is something that won''t happen again.

In my experience, getting the ID team involved is a good thing. They know how to fight thes relisient bugs better than most, and how to sort out what really might be going on. Hospitals and the bugs floating around them can be tricky things. Sounds as if he is getting good attention.

All my best thoughts and prayers...

I just got off the phone with Gil and relayed to him everything that is going on right now, and also called Nan with his take on everything. The infectious disease team has to know exactly which bug, or bugs they are fighting, that''s why all the blood cultures are necessary. If they come back positive after antibiotics have been administered they need to go back and find others that will eliminate the bacteria. Giving Angello blood is normal in this case after surgery, no problem there. Also being on the ventilator is totally normal. His blood pressure dropped because of the infection and they are giving him medicine so that he can maintain his BP. So it is a hard road, but there are no red flags as Gil see''s it and he has treated patients like Angello many times. So it''s good news.

I am glad to hear that no red flags.

Oh, Nan....bless your heart...what ride you and your family and of course little Angello have been on!! Pray God this adventure is now winding down to a happy conclusion, and you can take your angel home very very soon...

I just returned from a week in Ft. Lauderdale... no power for three days and no cable or internet access at all during my stay. I thought of Angello often and was so frustrated not being able to check in...

My heart aches to learn that he''s had such a rough time...

God bless you all, and hang tough!!! Surely the worst is behind you, and there will be nothing but good good news henceforth.

(((((hugs and kisses))))) to your sweet baby!

Lisa,

You have been a wonderful friend. Everyone who goes through an ordeal like Nan's needs someone like you. Whenever I read of what you have done to make sure Angello is getting the care he needs and that Nan is aware of everything being done and why, I put myself in her place and feel gratitude.

Thank you so much.

Love,
Deb

When my son had an infection after surgery, they left the wound wide open. They do not want to seal in the bacteria and they can also clean out the wound.
It looks frightening but it closes by itself and the infection heals once they find the right antibiotics. He was on five at once.
Strangely enough, he was in the hospital the last time little Angello was in and he is now hospitalized again. He is an adult and handles things himself but it is still very upsetting and I can imagine how Nan feels seeing such a little one undergoing so much and not really understanding everything that is going on. I really admire her courage.

You''ve got that right.

I fear for the medical staff at Children''s when Lisa zips into town tomorrow. They''re not going to know what hit them.
She''s been an awesome source of support. (and so has this thread)

This is typical Angello stuff. He can never take the easy road- gives his momma a great big scare and then flashes his smile.

What can I say.

What can I say.
Your actions speaks louder than words. My continued thoughts for a speedy recovery for Angello. Your family is in our thoughts.

Nan, I had missed this thread, and I just wanted to say that my prayers are with you and your whole family as well as Angello and all the doctors and nurses currently taking care of him. I hope for continued good news.

Wow those are such kind words. Ok heard from Nan. They are uping his sedation medicine and adding more blood pressure medicine. She left me a message on my answering machine and I couldn't hear all of it, but believe that was the jist of it. I'll know more later. And yes major butt will be kicked when I go there tomorrow, trust me

Oh Nan, many hugs and many prayers that this ordeal will be over soon. Such a hard thing for all of you to go through..I can''t imagine what poor little Angello is thinking about all of this. I was hospitalized with pneumonia when I was five..all those IV''s was traumatic enough for me. Poor little guy. The best is certainly to come.

I''m sorry to hear there have been a few recent complications, but so glad that Gil says they''re not red flags.

I know Lisa will kick some major butt tomorrow!

Nan did tell me that his oxygen levels have improved today so that''s great news, and that''s all I know right now. Haven''t spoken to her yet. We have been emailing.

Prayers continue.
He is going to be fine and in no time will be trying to find some frog hair to split 8 ways to show how fine he is :}

My prayers continue. I hope your feisty little man will be home with you soon.

I agree that it sounds like the attention from the id staff is a great thing indeed. The more people involved the better. It does sound like he''s getting great care so I hope that''s some comfort...Stay strong and we are all thinking of you and the family and the little man!

Hello everyone.

Things are slow going these days. It''s all a matter of finding a balance for his fluids, blood pressure and oxygen levels.

I need to be patient but It AIN''T easy. He did open his eyes and stir a bit today. It was so funny- he always points when he wants to go somewhere. Well he opened his eyes and started pointing towards the door- like GET ME THE H*LL OUT OF HERE!

He is getting good care- he has no fever and his blood gases are good (whatever that means- I know it''s good!)

Still hangin tough in the PICU at Childrens!

Nan- glad to hear he seems to be continuing on the right track!

Lisa, give Nan and Angello hugs and love from us tomorrow

Nan, so happy to hear the good news. You are a great hospital, people there especially the section where you are, are really dedicated to their jobs. I hope the care that Angello is receiving continues to be vigilant and top-notch. And I continue to keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Hang in there!

I finally downloaded some pics off the camera.
I''m sorry if these are too graphic for some- but I wanted you to see what my little man is going through.
I feel like you are all there with me pulling for him.

The first one is day one after surgery.
