In my experience, getting the ID team involved is a good thing. They know how to fight thes relisient bugs better than most, and how to sort out what really might be going on. Hospitals and the bugs floating around them can be tricky things. Sounds as if he is getting good attention.Date: 8/30/2005 9:06:04 PM

Nan just called and is just on her way to the hospital now. Will give an update as I get it. They had to give him some blood and are giving blood pressure medicine. Also they did more blood cultures, and the infectious disease team is involved, so hopefully all will get worked out. There was a problem in that they had to wait a long time for the blood and the medicines. I hope this is something that won''t happen again.

I just got off the phone with Gil and relayed to him everything that is going on right now, and also called Nan with his take on everything. The infectious disease team has to know exactly which bug, or bugs they are fighting, that's why all the blood cultures are necessary. If they come back positive after antibiotics have been administered they need to go back and find others that will eliminate the bacteria. Giving Angello blood is normal in this case after surgery, no problem there. Also being on the ventilator is totally normal. His blood pressure dropped because of the infection and they are giving him medicine so that he can maintain his BP. So it is a hard road, but there are no red flags as Gil see's it and he has treated patients like Angello many times. So it's good news.

Lisa,
You have been a wonderful friend. Everyone who goes through an ordeal like Nan''s needs someone like you. Whenever I read of what you have done to make sure Angello is getting the care he needs and that Nan is aware of everything being done and why, I put myself in her place and feel gratitude.
Thank you so much.
Love,
Deb
Your actions speaks louder than words. My continued thoughts for a speedy recovery for Angello. Your family is in our thoughts. What can I say.
