More Fun Things on Etsy

A little more about Julia: she specializes in bezels, and does all handforged jewelery!
Her website is here:www.juliakaytaylor.com

She''s quoting me 75$ for the pendant, which isn''t too pricey, especially if the quality of her work is what it seems, and if she can think up an amazing design for me!

And here''s my fav etsy piece from her:

MTG,
thankyou for the heads up for Julia - her work looks very nice and well done!

This is my fave piece from her site (aside from the vitality collection which you posted).

I know who I am asking to set my next gem

I look forward to seeing what she comes up with for your pendant..
this is why I love etsy - just when you think you''ve seen it all, another great designer comes along

I like her work, thanks for posting her web site. I think $75 is a deal.

Haha, I think I''m just so spoiled by Kyleanne''s prices I guess. She did a lovely 14k white gold bezel ring for 110$, and did my malaya ring for 25$, lol. But Julia''s much more experienced it seems, so I''m sure 75$ is a great investment with her. I can''t wait to see her design sketches!

Hi Innerkitten,
Can you please share the Etsy seller name for Kyleanne? Her pricing sounds fantastic.

Thanks.

This site is amazing!!!!!!!! I just found it this week and can''t stop looking!!!!

Here is a really bad neck shot of my new pillbox pendant. It looks so much nicer in real life. The pictures on Etsy had me a bit worried- the silver looked a bit dull and the fixers for the pillbox and the pendant looked quite big. When I got the necklace this lunchtime, I realised that I shouldn''t have been worried. It is absolutely perfect! I''ll try sort out a better picture than this one taken from my phone.

Sapphire Lover your pendant looks really pretty! You''ll be able to wear it with so many things :)

I love this too MTG!
I have asked Julia to come up with a design for me for my peach tourmaline based on this ring:
But with the oak leaves instead of the heart shaped ones. I can''t wait to see what she comes up with.
She is no nice and friendly too!

Thankyou for posting about her

I love those two. The design of them really stood out for me. I wonder how much they are

Oh AJ, that ring would look so gorgeous with your pink tourm! The ring looks so elegant and antiquey!
Let us know what happens! And yes, Julia is a sweety to work with, have you read her etsy profile? It just cracked me up.

I'm mailing my spinels to her next week, and then it will be a few weeks until completion, so I'm guessing I should have something to show you guys in a month!

Hi MTG!
thankyou hon for your thoughts.

I''ve actually decided to change direction (just a lil) - I started thinking about Julia''s great skill with bezeling all those small gems, and also how I''ve had a couple gems lying around for awhile now that I''d like to have set...(and also how I have way too many solitaires, lol).

soo.....

I have asked her to come up with some type of three stone design, still based loosely on the above ring with the leaves, and incorporating these guys:
left to right, ~4mm violet spinel, 8mm peach tourmaline, and 0.4ct (4.5mm) OEC antique diamond, L/M colour..

I know the combo is a lil different, maybe a bit quirky, but I thought the colours are just too lovely together not to use!
I can''t wait to find out what Julia comes up with, but I''d also love any ideas that you guys might want to share about how to have them set.

I think the color combo is killer AJ!!! You should start a thread over in colored stones, you might get more design input there. Although I''m sure Julia will send a lot of great sketches your way, haha. Seriously, between June 4 and June 5, she sent me 17 mssgs and 7 design ideas, lol.

Can''t wait to see what happens! I really love threads on projects because it''s so exciting and satisfying to follow the journey beginning to end :)

Thankyou MTG - yes, she responds very quickly, which is great!
Do you care to share the design idea that you are going with?

tbh, I think I am leaning toward the simplicity of that gold and silver ring you posted above, of course only with my gems replacing the 3 circles of metal - its such a simple but very striking design.
But yes, I''m hoping she will come up with some fun ideas

And you know, the more I look at her work, alot of her style reminds me of Jim Meyer''s work too.
I may start a thread in CS once I hear back from Julia.

After seeing so many beautiful Sally-Heart of Water creations, I thought I''d share my fishtail OEC setting. It''s very similar to the one LovingDiamonds had made for her OMC but mine has a smaller illusion area and the basket has mine and my husband''s initials on either side.

When I saw these pics, I was blown away by the difference the setting makes to my stone. The scalloped rim appears to reflect the multi colour rainbows of the old cut stone and seems to cancel the ''yellow''ness that has always perplexed me about my OEC. However I am a bit concerned about how high the basket sits. When I mentioned this to Sally, she was incredibly accommodating and understanding. She said the basket had to be higher to accommodate the initials but she would send me the ring and if I felt uncomfortable wearing it I can send it back to be re-worked.

I''ve always been hesitant about custom work because there are so many elements left to interpretation and the customer''s vision may not always be the same as the designer''s. I think Sally was wonderful to work with. She got the ideas straight away and was so good at communicating that I always felt like I knew at what stage of completion my setting was. She even gave me a detailed description about how the rings are made (very similar to Van Craeynest''s methods).

I had originally wanted a bezelled version of the lotus setting for my stone, but Sally said they can''t do milgrain and I thought an OEC should have a milgrain bezel for that antique look. I''m glad I went in this direction, and am very grateful to Sally for her patience with my complete 180 degree change in design direction.

After all my waffling, here are some pictures that Sally took. I should hopefully have my ring by the end of the week. I would love some opinions of the basket. When I first saw it, I thought it was waaaay too high, but the more I look at it, the more I feel it suits the era I am trying to replicate.

I really love your ring, and the basket is exquisite.

I am getting something made from Sally also and I can''t wait to see how it turns out!

Wolftress, I love your ring, and i don''t think the basket is too high at all! It''s so beautiful, I love the idea of the initials on the side. I''m sure once you see it in person, you''ll fall in love with it. The pictures can sometimes be a bit deceiving in how high it looks. I''m waiting on a package from Sally too, and I can''t wait to get it! Hope yours gets to you quickly.

Wolftress- that ring is unbelievably beautiful. I love the basket work and to me it doesn''t look too high.. Only you know if it site to high for your lifestyle though. Have you got handshots? It''s fantastic and I wish you well to wear it.

When I got my pendant I put it next to it ering and realized how good sallys work was. It made my ering look clunky and messy. I would love to send it to Sally to reset but a) I can''t afford it and b) it would break DFs heart to see I didn''t think my ring was perfect as he is so proud of it.

Lovinggems, thank you! What is Sally making for you? She says she is making a lot of pieces for the Pricescope ladies and we have all been keeping her very busy

The more I look at the basket the more I think the height looks beautiful. When I first saw the pic it was highly magnified on my huge monitor at work. Sally said they could bring the basket down if I felt it was too high in person, but they would have to remove the initials, and the basket would be a lot ''stumpier''. I was just blown away that she would agree to take the ring back for remodelling if I wasn''t happy with it. She really is a class act!

SapphireLover, you''re right about Sally''s work. She says every piece takes days to complete because everything is done completely by hand. The way she described how the goldsmiths at her workshop work... it was absolutely amazing. I think it would be very hard to find a jeweller who works that way these days. That said, I think your e-ring is absolutely breathtaking! Which part of it would you like re-worked?

Wolfress, her goldsmith is making a ring for me, sterling silver with 18k gold, with my blue green tourmaline. Sally said it''ll be ready in a few days, I can''t wait to see it!

The baskets from the side view are quite clunky, bits of gold aren''t polished properly on the basket and the claws aren''t that even. My best friends dad is a jeweller and made it for me, and we got a great deal on it (much bigger stone than we could normally afford). I feel bad having to take it back, but its got to be sorted out, and if it had come from any other shop we would have sent it back. I would love to be able to have my ring design but with baskets like yours.

Wow you guys are getting such beautiful things on Etsy, Wolftress your ring looks fantastic! I would love to have something made by Sally or the woman who''s making MTGs new pendant. My jewelry budget is pretty low these days and I just emptied it out on an interesting handmade bracelet yesterday. Maybe I''ll post it here.
