Now I really did it :((

Dear Marcy, to clarify, i am looking at hearts because you are. I caught heart fever from you and I’m not complaining! Happy snow storm to you. At least this time it is at an appropriate time of year.

Thank you, Sharon...did you get to the mall??

Austina, I did not know you cannot travel with ashes? It that what you mean? I was considering taking my parents to Paris sometime. I have a big hope chest with all the ashes of grandparents, parents, husband, dogs and cats and never could figure out where to scatter them! My only clue is to pick a spot they loved to hang out, but it feels like a big decision. Apparently my Mom felt the same way, as I inherited all the family ashes she kept in her closet :))

Happy Big (and small) Dog Sunday girls!
It's the last weekend in 2019. Wow.

NIRDI shout out! @missy you guys are super riders! Wow 9K is quite a feat--and in the cold too boot! I do miss my bike--and people are still cycling around us--but I am too old to fix broken bones because of the ice. lol But glad Greg feeling well enough to keep at it!

@missy woo hoo to 9000 miles of cycling this year. I hope Greg is not in too much pain.

Wow @missy 9000 miles, what an achievement after what has been such an eventful year. I’m glad Greg is feeling well enough to get out and cycle. It was a beautiful warm day here yesterday, not wintry at all. No ice cream for us, we had a cauliflower crust roasted vegetable pizza and salad yesterday, and after that we were too stuffed to eat anything else

Thank you kindly ladies! We enjoyed almost every mile too despite all we had/have going on and compartmentalizing has become a new skill of mine. Sometimes I am successful and sometimes not. Like in the middle of the night I woke (I wake every 2 hours around the clock while sleeping and sometimes get to go back and sometimes I cannot) I woke and couldn't stop thinking of Francesca and then of Tessa. I dont know if you heard about the Barnard freshman that was murdered during a mugging in Morningside Park a few weeks ago. Anyway that has weighed on me because I keep thinking of the potential she will never realize and her family and the children and grandchildren that will never be born now. All the future generations affected and that poor girl who was just a teenager and her whole life ahead of her. Tragic. I feel pain for that family and that young girl. I just couldn't fall back to sleep once my mind got going about Tessa. But I digress. Living in the moment is critical and compartmentalizing is necessary for quality of life these days. IMO.

I might hit the mall today. Get some exercise and spend some gift cards! lol Exciting life I lead.

I hope you enjoyed the mall yesterday Sharon and got some good gifts for yourself. That is the kind of excitement I love. Hoping for that kind of excitement in 2020. Peaceful enjoyment of life. Yes. Bring that on. Hope you have a lovely Sunday. (((Hugs))).

Thank you all for your anniversary wishes, it’s been quite the journey, and hopefully there’s still a lot more time to come.

Yes you will have many more happy healthy decades together with Colin and sending you big hugs. Have a safe flight home and so pleased you enjoyed a wonderful trip and visit with your dear son and Kim and got to have a nice time with Shirley too. XO.

@missy I am quite often told that my writing is dense. NIRDI changes things!

[just going out]

Well I like the way you express yourself and always enjoy reading what you share with us. NIRDI rocks and you are an eloquent NIRDI indeed. (((Hugs))).

The snow storm did arrive overnight. I can’t tell how much we got since it’s snowing sideways and drifting but what’s new there? Marty went to his gym and confirmed it is nasty and icy out. Needless to say I didn’t go to look at that heart diamond today. Darn it. I made homemade soup for lunch and kind of picked up Christmas presents and boxes today plus worked on laundry.

Oh no to snow but glad you stayed in and stayed warm and cozy and got chores accomplished. When we head back to Brooklyn I can no longer do my own laundry and I will miss that. I love doing daily laundry and getting clean sheets and towels etc every day. What kind of soup did you make? I love thick hearty soups as meals. Very much. Greg used to make me yummy butternut squash soup and pumpkin soup and when I was living on my own in my twenties my mom used to bring over homemade soup that she made for me and I would freeze it for later and the boyfriends I dated always cooked for me. Haha I guess I always had people cooking for me. I guess that was meant to be since I cannot cook for myself. LOL.

Have a good Sunday Marcy and (((hugs))).

@Jimmianne good morning, how are you today? No news yet from my friend Tom who I forwarded the info to but will check back in with him later. No worries. All is going to be OK and I am sending you lots of good luck vibes. XOXO.

@Slick1 hope you have a fun Sunday. XO. What are you doing NYE?

@Scandinavian hope you are enjoying a good weekend with your family. And that your mom and grandma are feeling well. Hugs.

@bling_dream19 hello Mrs Bling Dream, I hope you are having a wonderful weekend with your DH. Your darling husband. Sounds good! XO

@Daisys and Diamonds hugs to you and Tibby and all your family. Hope you are enjoying a nice weekend. XO

@junebug17 have a lovely Sunday with your DH Junie. Any NYE plans?

We rode yesterday and it was another mild weather day. Just lovely. This has been quite the cycling season and I know we will never have another like it and that is OK. While we enjoyed all those miles it will be nice to get back to "normal" life and hopefully life will calm down. I know we cannot assume it will but I am hoping and praying it will calm down and we will find quiet and uneventful happiness soon.

Yummy ice cream. I had a rich and delicious Vanilla and Greg enjoyed Cherry Vanilla Bourbon. Yummmm. His was dairy free but not gluten free so I couldn't have that flavor. Apparently Bourbon has gluten. And Jimmy makes all his ice cream with real ingredients. Delish. I am really enjoying the simple Vanilla. So good. Jimmy still has the PB&J ready for me but lately I have had a taste for this Vanilla. Yummmmmmmmmm.

Have a happy Big and Small Dog Sunday lovely ladies and sending you all happy holiday cheer and (((hugs))).

Dear Marcy, to clarify, i am looking at hearts because you are. I caught heart fever from you and I’m not complaining!

Dear @Jimmianne here is a big chunky heartlicious heart for you...

Shall I call Yekutiel and have him wrap it up for you?

Emailed you regarding your question. All seems very very good. !!!

Good morning girlfriends...I figure I better say why I haven’t come here..I hate being a Debbie Downer. I’m an upbeat person but even this is getting to be too much for me...It’s like I can handle a lot..but when it’s everyone in your family with an issue and I’m the problem solver it’s getting to be too much for me. I’ve been distracting myself with bling..I come on PS to look and answer quick posts...I haven’t been reading everyone’s post..but I’m pretty caught up now. Truly PS had been a lifesaver for me because it’s a distraction...I won’t go into a lengthy description but will just touch on some things..the first one is major and taking up all my time. My husband who is a normally strong person..or so I thought..had been battling anxiety. i never knew this..only knew he can get pretty grouchy so I stay away from him when he’s like that. In retrospect he probably was under stress and he’s not a good coper. The two weeks before Christmas he got sick getting progressively worse with a cold. The week before he still had it and it looked like he wasn’t going to be able to make Christmas at our house in Maryland. We would have stayed home but my son David loves Christmas..looks forward to it all year and talks about it often. We didn’t want to disappoint him. He loves for us to have it in Maryland. I had to do everything myself this year with getting everything to Maryland by taking numerous trips..lugging things into the house, etc., decorating both houses...taking care of David, my mom, checking in with Chris, Bailey, etc. I was so looking forward to the holiday to be over because it was too much this year because of everything else going on. My husband would call me from Pa saying his cold was still bad and it didn’t look like he would make it to Maryland. I found out on Christmas Eve that it wasn't really the cold..but he’s been having panic attacks related to not being able to breathe through his nose. He could breathe through his mouth but for whatever reason he panics when he cant breathe through his nose...I’m going to hit reply so I don’t lose this...I didn’t proofread..

I’m so sorry @Mamabean, obviously we don’t want you to share anything you don’t feel comfortable with, but is there something else, is he having problems with his job? It often falls to us women to cope with everything, because that’s what we do, but please take care of yourself too. xxx

He called me on Christmas Eve to say he was having the panic attacks and he was driving to Maryland to be with me because he didn’t want to be alone. I told him to absolutely not drive...that I would pack everything and everyone up and come back to Pa...pretty much leaving my son and daughter-in-law at my house alone fir Christmas. He wouldn’t hear of it.. He made sure he called at night because he knows I’m not comfortable driving at night because I can’t see well when it’s dark. He came on Christmas Day but he was acting weird. He was pacing and couldn’t sit..couldn’t eat...just generally acting childlike...saying he was very panicky. I wanted to take him to the emergency room but didn’t want to go. I called his doctor’s office to make an appointment for him the day after Christmas in Pa. I got up early..started packing everything up...when he came in to tell me he was going by himself. He didn’t want me to go..that he felt better...and wanted David to continue to stay here. David had been getting upset the night before when I told him we had to go home because dad was sick..If this was an average child I would have just made him suck it up..but David is Autistic so it’s a different handbook. He went to the doctor and I was on speaker on his phone..so I could hear everything. The doctor prescribed an antidepressant and I thought he would get something like a beta blocker to take the edge off immediately..He was prescribed something that would take at least two weeks at least to work. He came back here to Maryland thinking he would take the med and it would help him until the antidepressant kicked in..We find out it doesn’t work that fast..and he freaks out..
I’m sending this...I don’t want to lose it...I’ll continue below..

So...He’s been following me around asking me for suggestions on how to clear his nose...that if he could breathe he would feel better...My mom is being her normal self..which I’m trying to be nice..and I’m trying to keep David happy and take care of Bailey because he‘s been especially needy because he’s picking up the stress from my husband.
Around 3 my husband said take me to the emergency room. I go walk Bailey..get food out for my mom to feed them because I know it will be a long wait. I drove him to the emergency room which was packed wall to wall with people suffering from the flu, etc.. We walked in..he freaked at them all sick and walked out. I suggested Urgent Care but told him there would be lots of sick people there but not as many as the hospital. so...I drove him there..Same thing..walks in and said no take me home. In the meantime he talks to his brother in Delaware who says he also has anxiety and will give him two pills to take until he sees the doctor next week. They will meet half way. He takes off...I’m worried sick but there’s nothing I can do..He didn’t take the pills last night. He says just knowing he has an option to take them if he needs will make him feel better. He’s been sleeping upright in a chair fully clothed in case he needs to take a walk in the middle of the night...He’s been apologizing for adding this to my plate but he can’t help It. I assured him I’m fine..TG I’m a good coper..but the stress has been really bad for me. I have to get the house packed up soon and get us back to Pa. He has to drive his car back there..Usually David takes the ride with him and I get my mom and Bailey and all the stuff..I told him David is coming with me..I’ll pack his car with all the stuff. Please say a prayer if you do that that he gets home safely.
Thank you so much for listening to me...I know I’m rambling but this is very helpful to me.
@Austina..Thank you..Work doesn’t have anything to do with this..He’s a tightly wound person normally..and the fact that he can’t breathe is what’s causing the panic attacks...I think he has Generalized Anxiety Disorder but the lack of breathing through his nose escalated it..xxxooo

This is a funny add in to this. He gave me a HUGE mad money gift for Christmas. I have to ask him when he acts normal again..if he wants to take a zero off..hahaha

Oh, @Mamabean ... Does he work out? I have never had to do anything else for anxiety, so sweat works somewhat, if perhaps not for serious pangs [which I know nothing about]. Walking is working out. Then, can he tell you why he feels this way? It may well be dread that no longer has any reason [or so I've heard], it doesn't have to make sense [ask him for his nonsense! what else! darn!]. The EOYs are this thing too ,(

Thank you Missy, what a great heart! Yes, send it right over, and please tell Y. to charge it to Santa. : )

Mamabean, gosh that really sucks. So scary and upsetting. I hope somehow he can wear himself out with exercse until things settle down. Sometimes carb overloading with, for instance, rice helps as well to calm the stimulation. Definitely no caffeine or other stimulants. Has he been given something to open hs nose? Is he able to breathe better yet? I feel so terrible for him, and am wishing him relief ASAP.

OK, so it’s not work, just wondered. I have to say, that since Colin retired, he has become obsessed with his health, and I think that’s because he no longer has work to occupy him. Has your DH tried inhaling with menthol, that usually does wonders for clearing a blocked up nose. I’m sorry you’re dealing with all this @Mamabean, I can’t imagine how stressful all this is for you. Hopefully you‘ll all get back home without further incident.

We’re all packed up too, just waiting till it’s time to leave for the airport, drop the car and sit and wait for the plane, I hate this bit of the trip. I’m looking forward to getting home tomorrow, of course, I wish Dottie was waiting for us, but I’ll be pleased to get back. We feel like we’ve been away for ever.

We didn’t go bowling last night, we went axe throwing! It was a new experience to say the least. My 3rd attempt I got a bullseye.

I hope all the lovely NIRDIs have a good day and I’ll see you tomorrow, on the other side. :wavey:

@Mamabean, I will bbl but so sorry your dh is having a hard time right now...and yes, you cope well but this is tough on you too. You have a lot of people to take care of. I'm going to throw out the idea of using Afrin nasal spray...I know, I know, it's not the best thing, it can be addicting etc. but it will clear the congestion and ease his anxiety, which is the most important thing right now. I use it at night when I have a cold, I could not tolerate being clogged all the time. I have also used a saline solution, it works pretty well and it's sold in drug stores.

ETA how about over the counter decongestants?

@Austina Thanks for the laugh!! I can’t picture you throwing an axe...A bullseye too! You had talents you didn’t know you had!
That must be so hard to come home and Dottie not be there..It’s heartbreaking..<3
Have a safe smooth ride home..

Thank you @junebug17 The last time he had something like this it was from being addicted to Nasal Spray. I suggested it to him but he said he was afraid to. I even thought I could let him squirt in there once and then I would throw it away..but he said no. He is using the salt spray. That is helping a bit. Our son suggested Breathe Rights..He said he thinks it’s working..He’s a little better this morning. He actually ate. He lost seven pounds in a week. Fortunately he can spare seven..so it’s okay..xxxooo

Thank you @Jimmianne I’ll tell him about eating carbs/rice. He loves rice. He’ll try anything at this point.

Thank you @AV_ He's been walking miles per my suggestion in fresh air. That seems to help..I think it’s mainly the stuffed nose and not being able to breathe through it. I’m thinking it’s almost like feeling claustrophobic..IDK but that’s the way I’m thinking it may be. I do believe he has a generalized anxiety issue too but this nose thing pushed him over the edge. xxoo

Ah ok @Mamabean, was just trying to come up with something to give him relief and lower his current anxiety. I hope he's feeling better very soon. Anxiety can be very debilitating.

and don't you dare take away any zeros LOL!

@Jimmianne @marcy I love diamond hearts too! I’ve been looking for ages for a heart that I can make into a right hand ring to honor my sweet Bailey. He’s still with me...but got that idea from makingthegrade..I finally gave up and purchased a tiny ring with a heart shape and a teeny round diamond in the center. I plan to wear it on my right hand middle finger all the time if I can tolerate it. There’s also a girl on our board whose husband purchased a lovely heart diamond but she’s not setting it yet. I love them so much. Right now im
OBSESSED with asschers. Do you have a thread on yours Jimmianne? Yours is gorgeous! I wish there was a vendor that does trade ups for asschers. Boo

@Mamabean oh no I am so sorry. I agree with all the suggestions so far. Moving, exercising helps quell my anxious mind and hopefully it is helping your dh. And a big yes to @Jimmianne 's suggestion of carbs. Complex carbs are the bomb for comfort and feelings of well being (for me at least and hopefully for your dh too). It helps with Serotonin levels I think. Sending you (and your dh) comforting hugs.

Not sure if anyone mentioned the Nettie Pot? Maybe that could help your dh clear his congestion? Or eating something spicy. That might help too.

And Joanne, you never have to be "up" or anything for us. That is the beauty of NIRDI. We are here for each other good or bad. Please know that. Truly. We care about you. (((Hugs))).

@Austina safe travels.
I know how much you are missing Dottie. (((Hugs))).

Hello ladies. Just a couple of suggestions for you:

Missy: Has your DH looked into the idea of a balance board to recondition his knee? Lately I’ve been doing just that with this

Apparently a 30 degree tilt is a ticket to excellent rehabilitation, and the reviews say it with detail :) HTH!

MamaBean: I can’t imagine how much weight you carried over Christmas, hopefully some relief is coming your way.

When I’ve struggled with unending blocked nose it’s usually humidity related. Once levels dip under 50% the fun generally starts.

To remedy, you could try something like this and any humidifier that sanitizes the water, such as this I hope that helps :)

Hey Missy, many thanks for posting the link to Mildred! It’s fun to go back and experience the excitement agan. Poor thing needs a reset and I wish I could make up my mind.

one comment on Afrin...I get very claustrophobic with a stuffy nose, it’s mental hell...so I only put a micro amount in one nostril (and sniff hard) before bed, then do the other side the next night. Usually that gets me through the worst days of a cold or allergy flare, then I stop. For me at least, it solves the issue of rebound swelling.

Ladies, I am semi-crazy this evening after taking everything out of my storage closets and going through photos and other memories. It started with looking for a baby toy to give my neighbor at 4am this morning and ended up in chaos. 12 hours of sorting, (with an occasional bit of jewelry surfing online and tons of coffee and Christmas chocolates). I want this stuff out of my life! I filled two large garbage bags and put aside boxes of stuff to mail my sister.. Let someone else be the keeper of the family history!!! But I must say, some of it made me laugh, so it was kind of fun, not to mention that I am feeling rather virtuous.

Countdown to 2020 on its way!

I think it’s mainly the stuffed nose

I trust this much, since you are saying '
The last time he had something like this it was from being addicted to Nasal Spray.
' - it must be one important sensation ,( [I could never stand those & ibuprofen works for me]

Hi NIRDI’s! I hope you are all have a fabulous day.

@Jimmianne I am glad you caught heart fever. I am a total sucker for hearts. That’s true this is a good time of year to look for hearts. This 1/2 carat was my first 1/2 carat diamond. I started wearing it with a channel set band as my wedding rings. Everyone kept thinking it was a round diamond since it was so small. That is what eventually led me to mu first AGS0 diamond and here I am now. I moved the heart from a solitaire to a sapphire / diamond semi mount to wear as a RHR.

@missy compartmentalizing definitely helps get us through rough times. I sure used that a LOT between my mother’s death through finalizing my parents estate. Those 9 months are a blur to me. So sorry you couldn’t go back to sleep. I did hear about that girl who was murdered in the park. It reminds us all how life can change forever in an instant and how many things one incident can change. Homemade soup is the best and how cool you always have someone cooking for you. I made a beef veggie noodle soup yesterday. It hit the spot on a cold, snowy day. Darn that you don’t do laundry in Brooklyn. Can you get a washer and dryer put in there somewhere? Of course that means moving some stuff out, right? Nice that you got to go for another ride and also enjoyed some ice cream. Vanilla is my favorite flavor of ice cream. I like it plain, with strawberries, or with chocolate syrup. Gorgeous pictures. That’s a pretty heart but the left side looks a little wider than the right. It could be my bad eye but that’s what I see.

@Mamabean I am so sorry everyone leans on you and relies on it. That can be overwhelming and makes it very tough on you. Sometimes you just need to lean on someone else. I hate to hear your husband is having panic attacks and having problems breathing. I hope he finds someone to help him and he feels less anxiety. My nephew had a similar thing happen in the spring and he became so indecisive his company finally insisted he see a counselor. After many sessions they have helped him a lot and from what my sister told me his anxiety encompasses everything from today back to when he was a kid. I think they gave him pills too but not sure what kind. Sadly like you are finding is you can’t fix it over night. Could Bailey ride back to PA with him? Big hugs to all of you. As AV_ suggested sometimes it’s hard for us to put a finger on what is triggering strong emotions. I know penicillin will clear my sinuses as will the eye drops I had to use for my edema; it was called Ilevro but both of them require a prescription. Definitely keep that mad money for yourself. Asschers are awesome shape diamonds too. If I had the money I’d have a RHR with every shape of diamond. I thought of upgrading my heart for an oval but I know I’d miss my heart RHR. I wear it several times a month and have toyed with upgrading it for about 5 years. Your heart ring sounds very nice. Safe travels to PA today.

@AV_ I agree exercise improves your mood. I think it’s the sense of accomplishment you feel when you are done.

@Jimmianne you will probably beat me at ordering a heart diamond. Such fun. I totally enjoyed exploring your Mildred thread again. I am glad you had some laughs going through old photos and other memories. My oldest sister took all of my parents photos and to this day I still don’t want to go through any of them with her. I heavily resisted bringing much of their stuff home with me. It’s good you decided to get rid of some of it and send some to your sister. The countdown to 2020 is on!

@Austina have a safe trip home. I saw your axe throwing on IG - you did really good at it. That is way more serious than throwing darts. I know you miss sweet Dottie. Big hugs to you.

@iunebug I didn’t know those nasal sprays could be addictive. Is that one by prescription only?

@sunseeker101 I hope you are doing well.

We got up a little after 6 this morning. I started a roast in the crock pot, it was surprisingly tough for a crock pot roast. Marty made mashed potatoes but completely forgot gravy and veggies. I suggested sour cream in the mashed potatoes; I swear there was more sour cream than potatoes so between that and a tough roast I filled up on a sundae for dessert. Ha!

I washed our flannel sheets so while the bed was down to the mattress pad Marty put the new one on for us. I got engrossed in a movie Marty was watching which slowed me down about 90 minutes. It was the 1990’s version of Jiminga; it was rather good. After watching the movie I finished drying the sheets, lifted and finished dishes.

We’ve got a ton of snow again. I am guessing around 7 inches but it’s hard to tell with all the drifting.

Marcy
