OMG!! David Klass contacted me!!

@Oval-SweetiePie
You can also always ask DKJ to do a new cad exploring 3.5mm stones and see what they come up with.

I do think the angle of the cluster diamonds on your current cad and calosen’s are already very similar.

Asking for a wax to be made from your cad and shipped to you is a great way to see finger coverage.

Yes, perfect!! I completely forgot about the wax. I will definitely ask for that.
Thank you :))

I just wanted to pop in and say that the CAD looks good... I would go with a bezel color that is just ever so slightly darker than your center stone. I don't own this ring anymore, but I had David do 14K YG to enhance the champagne color of my U/V color OEC center. DK Halo 4.jpg

Omg!! That is gorgeous!! It almost makes me want that style of ring. Do you happen to remember the sizes of the stones you used?

The center was 7.7 mm, but I don't know what the halo stones were. The height was 6.20, and it was VERY low... so I wouldn't worry about the height of yours. I'm happy to post the CADs, but they don't list the halo stone size.

That said, if you like that size, you can show David that pic and he can adjust the proportions for your center. That ring is in a vid on his IG... waaaay back. LOL

I wanted to add... if you like the look of the cluster ring (i.e. lots of look), you may not be satisfied with this style ring. A lot of the aesthetic depends on the size of your center stone and your ring size. You will get more "look" with the larger stones in the halo, for sure. @Oval-SweetiePie

I’m going to guess @msop04 ’s ring has melee in the halo that’s bigger than 1mm but less than 1.5mm.

And agree if finger coverage is important to maximize for you, @Oval-SweetiePie
That @msop04 ring size on this one was smaller than @caolsen ring - so that factor plays a part as well in finger coverage.

I’m sooooo jealous of the tiny fingers around here!!!
-cries in size 7

Yes. If you could post the CAD that would be great!! My stone is 7.6

That is true! But now I love both rings. I wear a size 7.25, so no tiny fingers here. I try to get as much finger coverage as possible.

Yep!! Size 7.25 is my size. Finger coverage is the very important for me because small rings get lost on my giant fingers/hand!!

I’m also too in love with @caolsen ’s ring and still going to have a copycat of it made.

@msop04 ’s ring has given me inspiration for the future though. Maybe with another stone. ;)2

I need to stay off PS!! Lol
I keep seeing more rings I want made!!

But for now I’m definitely having @caolsen ring made!! That is literally my DREAM ring!! Love, love, love it!!

I’m a bit late to this party, and I know you’ve decided to go with the cluster, but for the future…. Here ya go!

I wonder what size stone I would need for that amount of coverage? Size 7.25 finger. :((

@caolsen would you mind taking a picture of your ring being worn from a distance? I’m trying to get a better idea of what it looks like for finger coverage. Thanks so much:))

If you want to know what the finger coverage would look like on Your finger this is what many of us do. Take a piece of paper or card stock and cut it out in the dimensions of the ring you are looking at designing. You cannot tell from another person's finger. Not only may another person have a different ring size, but they may wear their ring tighter or looser than you do, or their finger may be longer or shorter so the distance to the knuckle will be different, so the look on the finger will be different. You get the general idea that there can be many variables on individual finger coverage. Then ask DK for a model wax- that should really answer your question the best way possible.

Yes, all very true. I think I will ask him for the wax model. Thanks

Great idea. I hadn’t had time to respond but I have very short fingers, especially from the first to 2nd knuckle so the coverage won’t be representative.

Hi there, @Crazyaboutrings68! I thought you might like a few photos to pass the time while you're 'going through the process'. All these rings were done by DKJ, so you're in good hands.

Firstly, my current cluster. it's a 1.51 G colored diamond from Good Old Gold. It's surrounded by 8 x 26/27 point, individually certed, ideal cut, E VS/VVS mrbs. Finger size - 7. (And there's nothing 'huge' about a size 7 finger.). This is one of the most perfectly made rings I own, and I thought you might be interested to see how 4.1mm sides look in a cluster, when the center is close in size to yours (mine is 7.4mm, so a tad smaller). Just a heads up - thumb nails on PS are low resolution, so if you want a good look at a photo, click on it so it expands and you get the full res; diamonds are one of those things that look way better the clearer they are!

Next up is a cushion cut spinel. I can't recall the specs exactly, but it's roughly 3ct and the sides are...2.5mm, I think. It also has a tri-wire band, so...getting closer to yours...

DKPV2020-10-15---62610-PH-01.jpg

Lastly is my August Vintage cushion. It was about 1.9ct (I'm sorry I can't be more specific - this ring and the spinel ring have been sold since I took these photos). It isn't a tri-wire, but it isn't a plain shank, either. The center isn't bezel set, but the sides are, indeed, 3mm. They were custom cut by Yoram Finkelstein, and I went with a similar, warm color because I wanted a ring that looked like a drop of sunshine on my finger, and so I wasn't after contrast - just more of that glorious sunshiny glowy-ness!

I'll be frank with you - I wasn't happy with how this one turned out. I think it looked messy and uneven. I was unhappy as soon as I pulled it out of the box. I do almost all my projects with DKJ and I know that their work is normally gorgeous. But this one...not so much. Firstly, I should have bezeled the center. Then I should have had the sides cut to allow for that, so they gave me a tighter finish. Clustering a cushion is a lot less forgiving then clustering a round, because the stones have to have an exact, tight, fit, and you have to take corners into consideration. There's not nearly as much wiggle room. And the larger the stones you use, the truer that becomes. Tiny little stones can be manipulated a dozen different ways to fill a perimeter. But when the side stones are larger, you can't just remove one if things look a little tight, or shove one in if the fit isn't tight enough. With mine, there's gaps and uneven tilt angle on the sides. It was a gorgeous diamond, and I wish I'd kept it. But it wasn't right for this project - or the sides weren't right for the center, or I needed a different bench to set it - something. In the end I pulled it apart, re-used the gold, sold the center and the sides separately.

If you go to *this* thread - https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/show-us-your-david-klass-bling.196654/page-41 - and you go down to the third post on that page, you'll see a few of my things by DKJ. They're beautifully made and have -zero- issues. This cushion cluster was just 'one of those things'. They offered to fix it for me - which I'm sure they could have done - but I was kinda meh on the whole thing by that stage, so moved on.

I'm looking forward to seeing your CADs and your wax model, and definitely your finished ring; I'm sure it will be beautiful!

Thanks so much!! They are all gorgeous!! I have been contemplating using the stones from another ring that is a 7 stone with .30ct each stone, to go around my center stone.

My mind has been all over the place with this project. :((

I am way more of a lurker than a poster but this thread captured my interest and especially @mrs-b 's observations about larger melee and a tight fit. It is hard but I love the look. I had DK redo a ring for me that another vendor got wrong, and it's not absolutely perfect bc I wanted to use the same melee rather than buying new stones, but I am still so happy with it so I think you are in good hands. Around the same time I was doing this, @caolsen was doing her ring and I was struck by how they are similar and she was also reusing melee :) Anyway my stone was radiant which made a tight fit even tougher but was so happy with the result. I'm attaching pic and also showing thread: https://www.pricescope.com/communit...-and-i-want-to-get-it-right-this-time.269510/

Well, you didn't ask, but here's my suggestion....

I'd cluster your G colored stone. Not because I don't love warm colored stones - I do! But because you described it as a pretty rough sort of stone, and the value of this setting is going to be substantial.

My other reason is because - once you have a BIG ring, it's very hard to go back to something smaller. But, in reaching for your largest ring, would you want to wear a ring with a less-than-stellar center stone in it? Rings get looked at all the time - by yourself, by others...having your largest ring not be your best quality ring is probably a recipe for ultimately having your warm stone pulled out, and your engagement ring diamond put in its place anyway.

So to that end, why not go with the good diamond first, AND use the larger sides? Your final look would be very similar in proportions to the first cluster I posted, and it's an amazing ring to wear! It would also be roughly 15mm across. Very nice!

You just read my mind!! I literally emailed DKJ this morning about that very thing!! I have already been thinking that I wasn’t sure I wanted to put a crappy stone in such a nice ring!!

I also thought I wouldn’t mind the center stone being a G color because it’s the overall style of the ring that I love so much.

I mean, if I had a nice yellow or other colored stone, then I would use that in the ring but I don’t.

I just love the style of the ring and to be honest, I’m tired of wearing a solitaire. Even though it’s a new ring. But I think I’m over that stage in my life and want a big blingy ring.

I’m waiting to hear back from DKJ. The style will stay the same but the stones will most likely change. I’m pretty sure of that.

Do you happen to remember how big the entire head on the yellow gold, AVC halo ring was? I love that style a lot!! I know you said 1.9 for the center and 3mm for the melee. I’m just wondering how big in mm the center stone was and total for the whole top of the ring.

If you don’t remember, that’s fine.

This cluster is amazing!! Love love love it!!

Me too. :). I have a 4ct solitaire that I love - but this one is more eye catching.

I don't remember the proportions of my original AVC, I'm sorry - 8 x 7 for the center stone, perhaps? With sides, 14 x 13mm? I'm just not sure. AVCs, tho, are perfectly cut for light return, so it wasn't overwhelmed by the sparkle of the sides, or anything like that. I should have gone back and redone it, rather than junking it; the diamonds in it were superlative.
