OMG!! David Klass contacted me!!

I agree. I would never have designed this ring, this way if the OMC had been colorless….

Thank you. Also thank you for designing an amazing ring because I have been DYING for that ring ever since you posted it :))

Then I remembered I had this old champagne diamond. It’s round and won’t look nearly as gorgeous as your ring but I’ll still get the “fix” I need. Lol

Mine is 7.15mm. My ring is not too high, I’d call it mid height. With the full under gallery, you add height. Here is a side fire of 7.15mm .35MM is nothing, so you ring would be close to this…

Perfect!! That’s a great height. Thanks :))

Since you designed this ring I have a question. I have an entire eternity band that has 3 mm stones I can use for the halo but I think to achieve the look that your ring has, I need to go a little larger with the melee to get the same chunky halo look that I love.

Can you suggest a size for the melee? My stone faces up at 7.6 mm round.

I’m thinking 3.5 mm or 4 mm might hit the sweet spot. What are your thoughts?

Thanks

@Oval-SweetiePie I'm thinking DK might not have the depth of your diamond, otherwise that dimension would also be on the CAD. It will be the diamond depth that pretty much determines the height of the ring.

Yes, that’s correct. I haven’t sent him the stone and I only know the face up measurement. He said he would scan it once he gets it to determine the exact measurements.

Forgot about that message from him since that was talking to him on Etsy.

Not @caolsen but the diamonds in her fantastically beautiful ring scale out at 36% of the center stone diamond. So if your diamond is 7.6mm that would equate to 2.75mm melee.

Your 3mm eternity band diamonds would likely work fine, but using white diamonds as a halo for a champagne center stone is sometimes problematic. Having said that @caolsen 's ring looks great, maybe the yellow gold bezel in between makes all the difference.

That makes sense but I’m sure her melee stones are 3 mm as well? It looks like 3 mm in her CAD?

I am debating about the bezel around the champagne diamond. I was thinking either yellow gold or even a rose gold for the bezel might look better. I’m going to let DK look at it and let me know as well but it is definitely a concern because I don’t want to invest all this time and money and end up with a stone that just looks dirty.
What are your thoughts on color for the bezel? Any ideas that would help are greatly appreciated.

Also, in different lighting the champagne diamond takes on a more brown tone, so maybe a rosier gold bezel? What do you think?

Can someone tell me about the tri wire band? I’ve never heard of that and I think it’s beautiful. Is there a certain purpose or is it just for looks? I’m seriously considering that for the shank because it does look really pretty.
Thanks

Mine was a fix hit, too. I had the OMC in a solitaire and an eternity ring I had for years that I had stopped wearing regularly as the shared prongs were starting to loosen (reduction of a sizing bar meant the ring would never stay as tight as it ought to have been to be really secure - it was going to have to be reset anyway). The two came together into this beauty.

The stones around my OMC are 3mm stones. The dimensions of my center stone are on this CAD for my ring. Your center will be a bit smaller (my OMC is a chunky monkey) so I think yours would be proportioned differently with 3mm halo.

And bear in mind my center stone is more of a square then a round.

I love TRI WIRES. They are an older style of band. Back in the day when everything was hand forged, three wires would be pressed together and forged into one band. Its a strong shape, thr tri-foil - looks pretty and was a common band in Edwardian and Art Deco platinum pieces.

David’s are casted but the look is exactly what I want. I’ve done 5 rings with him with tri-wire shanks.

Massive props on the math skills! And I would bezel the center in gold to accentuate the color of the center stone compared to a white halo. That’s what I did. My center is barely yellow - a modern cushion cut would certainly kick it into fancy territory but the old, open facets put it in UZ range. The 18k bezel is doing the work here.

I can't wait to see what color gold you bezel set it with. I prefer yellow gold and and the buttery 18k as I think that will be more classic and transitional for years to come. Just my opinion of course but after seeing caolsen's you can't go wrong!! It will be gorgeous!

What about antique, or tulip gold? Which is a mix of pink and yellow. it’s a very subtle difference to yellow gold but makes certain stones POP. I used it for my Very Faint Pink OEC.

Here is a ring DK made for me using that mix…

@Oval-SweetiePie Looking more closely at your CAD I think DK has adjusted the shape of the bezel so the round diamond appears more like @caolsen's square cushion. Your first CAD is looking very good!

I think your choice of the color of the bezel gold is personal preference but I'm a firm believer in "if it isn't broken don't fix it". You know the color of @caolsen's bezel is just about perfect, and is a major contributor to the overall beauty of the ring. Are you sure you want to take the risk of doing something different?

I love rose gold with a brown toned warm/champagne diamond. But also depends on how it will work with your overall collection.

I was thinking if I used a rose gold for the bezel and white gold for the rest of the ring, it would work perfect as most of my rings are white gold. I could use platinum but I really don’t want to spend too much on that stone. Lol

And it is absolutely gorgeous!! I have been obsessed with it ever since.

Are you going to miligrain your bezel?

Why am I so confused about this?

DK is going to do a cushion bezel and halo around my round stone but the stone faces up at 7.6 so I was thinking that even though it’s a smaller weight stone, it faced up larger than your OMC and I would need larger than 3 mm melee? Omg!! I’m so confused.

If I don’t need larger melee and can use my 3 mm stones, that would be ideal because it would save me a boat load of money. I just really want the look/proportions as your ring has but with my stone. Or as close as I can get to those proportions.

I love a chunky halo and yours hit the perfect spot with that without looking like a cluster ring.

I just emailed him to tell him I wanted that. At first I just wanted a plain shank but after looking at more of them, I kind of fell in love with them. They are really pretty and add more visual appeal to the ring overall.

Yes, definitely doing a yellow or perhaps even a rose gold bezel.

Thank you to @prs for the calculations. I am horrible with math.

I’m definitely doing yellow or rose gold for the bezel. I’m going to have DK look at the stone and see what he thinks would look best with it as well.

Btw……your ring in your avatar is gorgeous!! Absolutely beautiful!!

OMG!! That is a beautiful color!! Would you say it’s kind a peach gold color? I will ask him about it. I think it would be gorgeous!! It may very well make my stone pop too. :))

The CAD did come out great!! He is amazing!!

I’m going to have DK look at the stone and suggest a color for the bezel. Yes, @caolsen has the absolute most beautiful color for her bezel. It literally “makes” the ring.

I did ask him if he could do a cushion shape for the bezel and halo with my round stone. He said he could, so I’m thrilled with that. ;))

I’m really hoping I can turn this ugly duckling into a swan once DK gets his hands on it. :))
