OMG!! David Klass contacted me!!

Me too. :). I have a 4ct solitaire that I love - but this one is more eye catching.

I don't remember the proportions of my original AVC, I'm sorry - 8 x 7 for the center stone, perhaps? With sides, 14 x 13mm? I'm just not sure. AVCs, tho, are perfectly cut for light return, so it wasn't overwhelmed by the sparkle of the sides, or anything like that. I should have gone back and redone it, rather than junking it; the diamonds in it were superlative.

So it kind of sounds similar in size to my 7.6mm, 1.69ct round G stone and 3 mm melee. The CAD from DKJ came out at around 13-14 mm total and that ring gave you a lot of finger coverage. I’m still going to ask him about my .30 stones from my seven stone ring too. If anything, we could use those and maybe just get another one if seven are not enough.

I’m going with a cushion shape around the diamond because I just love that shape and he said it could be done around a round stone.

This plan has been ever evolving!!

I am way more of a lurker than a poster but this thread captured my interest and especially @mrs-b 's observations about larger melee and a tight fit. It is hard but I love the look. I had DK redo a ring for me that another vendor got wrong, and it's not absolutely perfect bc I wanted to use the same melee rather than buying new stones, but I am still so happy with it so I think you are in good hands. Around the same time I was doing this, @caolsen was doing her ring and I was struck by how they are similar and she was also reusing melee :) Anyway my stone was radiant which made a tight fit even tougher but was so happy with the result. I'm attaching pic and also showing thread: https://www.pricescope.com/communit...-and-i-want-to-get-it-right-this-time.269510/

Could you post a picture of the side of your shank? Maybe the undercarriage too?

My ring may end up being a mixture of several different rings here on ps.

@mrs-b gave you great points of views on clusters she’s designed, @Crazyaboutrings68

As for which stone to use, quality of the stone notwithstanding & fulky acknowledging this setting will be expensive and should you put the better stone in it is a fair question… All that said, you said my cluster was your ‘dream‘ girl ring.

I think the color contrast is part of what makes this ring work they way it does.

Oh, the color is absolutely what makes your ring the dream. I asked David what he thought of my champagne stone and he said that he will let me know once he has it. If he thinks it will work out well, I would much rather use it for the contrast. I’ll have to wait to see what he says.

But I also think that the overall shape, proportions of stones, undercarriage, tri wire shank and stones on the side also make your ring so special.

Either way, I. Will. Have. That. Ring. LOL

Your ring design is my absolute favorite on this site, hands down. So, I think even with some variation, it will still give me what I want.

That said…..I’ve been online ALL day looking for a light yellow diamond. Haha!!

Absolutely. I think the color is the heart of it.

My point is - make sure it's what you want, because other rings might work just as well. So take your time, consider your options, and when you're *sure* what you want - go all in.

A not-warm center would indeed be a different ring. That's not necessarily a bad thing - just different. And until you look at lots of options, you might not know your preference. I'm just not convinced that using a diamond *you* described as "really ugly - maybe industrial grade" - makes the right center for the ring you also described as your dream ring. (A well cut light yellow diamond would be killer. Or a well cut, warm diamond. Or a well cut colored gem. Or your e-ring diamond. Or....)

Absolutely @caolsen’s yellow center makes that ring the bomb!! No doubt!! Which is part of the reason I love it so much but I also just love everything about that ring in general. All of those factors put together make it the “dream ring”.

There are plenty of halo yellow diamond rings on here that don’t give me the chills like her ring does.

But I am taking time to decide which styles of these rings will work best for the stones I already own too. I would rather not purchase any more stones since I have several and I want to keep cost down by using my stones and gold.

Speaking of gold, I asked DKJ if they can use my gold for the ring and apply the rest of my gold toward the cost of the ring and he said yes!! I have a ton of yellow gold so I’m sending him some extra. It’s just sitting in my jewelry box not doing anything for years.

He’s amazing to work with already. I think he just mailed my mold because I just got an email from them saying I had a shipment coming. :))

I can see this becoming an addiction. Lol

Just an fyi if you have complete gold pieces (not scrap) you may want to list on LT first bc you might get more $ that way than if you get credit from DK for the weight of the items. Good luck with your project!!

Thanks!! I may do that. :))

Not because I am interested in seeing what you have or anything... ;)

I’m going to list some things on the pre loved forum in the next few days to get some feelers. Then list on LT.

I’ve been sick the last couple of days so I’m waiting until I feel better. I’ll let this thread know when I do. :))

Wax mold from DKJ is here.

I’m not sure how I feel about this. The mold is usually bulkier than the finished ring and I don’t feel that there is enough “oomph” in this mold for my finger/hand.

This is with a 7.6mm round center stone, 3mm melee and a bezel around center stone. I’m asking him about 3.5mm melee and we will go from there.

I did have him do three stones down each side instead of two, due to my finger being bigger than @caolsen ’s finger.

(I have cropped my fingertips out because I’m in desperate need of a manicure but I’m home sick).

I am not the best at interpreting cads etc but based on the mold I think the coverage looks great. You have to love it though! I don't know if having it higher - it looks pretty low profile - might add the "omph" you are looking for?

I didn’t think about it being higher up. I will ask about that.

Any other opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks :))

I can't see a full gallery view on your pics so the height may be perfect. It also depends on preference of course. Others will probably be able to give you better suggestions about height but I think the coverage looks good; it's covering your entire finger!

Thank you. I will add a photo showing the gallery better.

The concern I have is the wax mold looking much bigger than the actual ring. This is the first time I’ve actually had a wax mold of a ring that was being made. So it’s confusing size wise for me.

I think the finger coverage on this mold is perfect. As long as the actual ring is the same size. That would be great if it is.

Thoughts anyone?

My mold and ring were very similar in size I thought. I am sharing a photo (ring is dirty sorry). The main different to me is that the prongs in the mold are more pronounced.

Oh, yes!! They are very true to scale!! Gorgeous!!
Is that mold from DKJ? Thanks

That looks a LOT like my ring in real life. You are on the right track.

I didn’t ask for a wax mold. Just the CADs. I actually don’t find molds all that helpful. But that might just be me.

I didn’t either. Lol. He didn’t say he was sending one, I just got an email the other day that something was coming from him. I figured it must be a mold. But it does help me visualize better. So I’m glad he sent it.

YAY!! I’m getting excited!! Thanks so much for all of your help and letting me copy your amazing ring :))

IMHO before you make any quick decisions you might want go get yourself some calipers so you can actually measure the size of the mold and compare it to your CAD.

The whole purpose of the mold is to look exactly like your ring, I've never heard of it being bulkier. The prongs on the mold will be bigger because that's how they are made in the mold so the setter has more than enough metal to play with when he fabricates the prongs. You can snip them off the mold if you want.
