I am a sapphire nut, and we gave up our second home (thanks Covid), so I‘ve been on a buying jag lately.
Probably silly to ask after the fact, but I bought this sweet ring today. What do y’all think? It seems more cornflower than royal blue to me, but wondering what others see.1CF6AFFA-D62B-4BFC-A854-A6CA93D0FA5D.jpeg

Oooh, from AC Silver. I love his stuff! I know you're asking for opinions on the stone but as a (usually) non-blue-sapphire person I am not well qualified to comment, but am really drawn to the design. Simple yet unusual.

Looks light and not well saturated.

Are they calling it that or is the lab report? I didn’t see in your post/pictures but maybe I missed it. I don’t put too much into what someone else labels royal/cornflower. Neither label would sway opinion if I liked it or not.

I am really curious what you think if it when you receive it - compared to their photos.

Looking at pages of their listings - a lot of the blue sapphires seem to be all close to the same color, at least on my monitor.

Very pretty ring!
I love the sapphire having a culet.

Well, it's a pretty colour, but in terms of royal blue, let's be honest, it would be very difficult or even damn near impossible to top the one you already have. I agree with you that this definitely doesn't fall under what royal blue should be like. And I too would be curious to see what it looks like in everyday light rather than a light-flooded photo studio.

He’s a recent discovery to me, but I love his selection too. I bought 4 pieces total, and fingers crossed, they are like the photos/videos. 4B6A36AB-87A0-4FFD-B39F-B22A69339EFE.jpeg

That is true. I love the color of my first one. But I have gotten so afraid of damaging her. My jeweler want to redo the prongs, and I’m not ready to risk it. So I thought maybe another one for more daily wear.

Nobody but me called it that color. I don’t have a cornflower, and to be honest I’m not sure what the definition is. I do think it is an old stone and mounting.

Thank you for the feedback.

I’m not sure of the definition either - it seem to vary source to source.

I’m sorry - I read your initial post incorrectly as if the cornflower vs royal as stated by the vendor, was the question.

Hope you share your evaluation of working with them, after you receive. You bought 4 pieces? Wow! - hope you share to s of pictures! :)
I’ve looked at AC Silvers items over the years with interest, but never contacted them.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve noticed all of a sudden there are many ‘Kashmir’ sapphires on the market. Pink ones too.
The pink ones you've seen that are labeled "Kashmir" are probably from mines near Batakundi, Pakistan. It is not the same mine as where the famous blue sapphires were found which was in Kashmir India, although both are in the "Kashmir" region. I've recently seen some purple sapphires with GIA reports stating the origin as Kashmir (Pakistan).

Oooh, I can't wait to see them. Is the above one of them? What is that? A pin? Did you buy any more rings?

I've seen several nice rings of his, that are somewhat like yours in the sense that a coloured gem is surrounded by diamonds in a slightly unusual design, maybe 1940s-60s cocktail type rings? Yours is a very wearable everyday design though.

Yes! I love all sorts of sapphires. He’s already pulled the pics from the website. This is a tie pin. The stones had a glow that sucked me in. Also got a small cabochon brooch with a ruby and a pair of cab sapphires and a Boucheron ring with pink and green sapphires. Will post pics when I can.

Will do. I did find them on eBay but learned from my 1st dibs experience That I could save by going direct, and I did get a better price.

I hope it looks as good as the glamour pictures, because it could be another covetous find. I do love that it has a sort of culet, I know that this isn't as desirable in CS but I just love it.
I hope you feel compelled to show off all your new acquisitions.

I will! Fingers crossed it’s nice. And I got more pictures of what’s coming!48384412-1EFC-4094-B3BC-C4355F806DC2.png

At Kashmir prices now -- and as you note, with lower-end Kashmir coming out of the woodwork to capitalize on the frenzy -- I would not buy-by-mail without a broker. These "should" be mid-five-figure purchases and that is worth a plane ticket to see a few side-by-side, imo.

EDIT: As you also well know, the difference between a good and great Kashmir is easily four-fold. The difference between meh and great -- well, the sky's the limit.

You make excellent points.

Thank you for your post!!! I hope to love it too. I adore the culet and the setting.

I want to compare the two side by side—old friend and new.

This is actually prettier than the vendor photos. Nice catch!

The sapphire made it! Very overcast day here. First pics in daylight. Seems saturated and silky to me….E55B83FA-26F0-4EA7-94A0-2E4D407ED565.jpegE55B83FA-26F0-4EA7-94A0-2E4D407ED565.jpeg

I am most definitely not a sapphire expert. But yes, to my inexperienced eyes this sapphire looks translucent. Then again, could be poor lighting when you took the picture.

I'd love to see when there are more favorable lighting conditions. So far, it looks pretty promising. How do you feel about in artificial lighting? How does it behave?

That's lovely! I love the color.

I agree that it looks translucent, rather than transparent.

Will be interesting to see if this goes less translucent and shows much more facet structure/scintillation in different lighting environment. Some people are ok with this - others aren’t. Some it would depend if the Kashmir tag inflated the price or not.

What do you think? Is it a keeper for you?

Now I‘e been to check it with my local jeweler and the sun is out. It is not the alpha dog of my two, but still pretty and if you like silk, well, there is a lot of silk. Yes, I will keep her. I don’t have a sapphire this co,or88D9E5F3-0636-4A9F-853F-F1B09CADAD3A.jpeg459048DD-F7CD-412D-8E6A-599F6B709517.jpeg
And this stone was less than a third the cost of my first scary purchase.

Thank you, all, for commenting and helping me learn how to be a better jewelry buyer.

Oh seeee, there she is. I absolutely love it.
I love that it's an antique cut. Silky, velvety, hits all my boxes. I would love to own something like that.
