This morning's sunrise from Fountain Hills AZ.

We finally moved into our new house two weeks ago after starting our journey in July 2020.

Happy Birthday to me.

Magnificent!

At the CT webcam nest, an osprey (likely the same female) is back and a nest is under construction! She can be seen there in the dark, perched on the wooden platform frame.

There are sticks being laid down, which means there must be a male around bringing materials. Maybe they will succeed this time.
If I see them both during the day I'll grab a screen shot.

Photo I just grabbed now:

Male and female osprey on the nest a few minutes ago (male is on the right), and just after I shot this he mated with her.
Webcam is freezing up periodically today.

Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Male and female. First time I’ve seen the female and I usually only catch a glimpse of the male once a year. He was hanging around this time singing up a storm.

Gorgeous! I just had a conversation with someone about them an hour ago...great shots.

There's a new reddish brown stick in the nest.. I keep looking to see if there are changes in the nesting material. They are actually building a nest this time, albeit rather slowly compared to what I've seen in Estonian nests.

Last night I saw the male digging a small hollow in the center. To do this he face-plants and then digs backwards with his claws. It's a bit comical to see. :) This should help prevent eggs being blown off the nest (which is what I think happened last time).

Adorable!!!

Here is the male excavating a depression for eggs. He's been busy the past half hour or so, bringing a small stick and several bunches of what looks like dried seaweed.

They really are excellent parents, from what I've seen over 9 years of watching osprey nests in Estonia.

Here they are mating, a minute or 2 ago.

The male brought the female a gift of fish-- I managed to grab a shot just as she flew off with it.
So the male seems to be doing it right this time... nest building, mating, and gifts of fish to the female. I wonder if it's a different male this time?

My hummingbirds are finally back!

So cute! I've had a feeder out for 3 weeks, and still haven't seen any!
I've been replacing the nectar all this time, wondering where they are.

I saw my first hummingbird of the season at our feeder on Friday, and again yesterday in the late afternoon.

Yes, I put my feeders out at the end of April. I started seeing them about a week or so ago, but couldn't get a photo. I love them! Didn't you have a nest last year?

Yes, the empty nest is still there. Maybe another bird will take it over?
