After Helene (the vegetation is a bit ragged but that sky is something else)

I think you mentioned you live on the East coast of Canada. Those are magnificent blooms!!!!! I always grew roses in AB, but they never lasted this long. Different zones and all.

Thanks, I'm in Ontario where the growing zone is a bit different I reckon. Was out in the garden earlier and saw a few small buds on some of the roses. Guess that wasn't the last of it. =)2

Pheasant Coucal. Not rare in here in Brisbane, but more often heard than seen. They like to skulk along the ground in long grass. This one is using my verandah to shelter from the rain:

Stopping in for a little bling-spiration for a project I’m working on, and forgot about this thread. Man, do I have some additions to this thread! Since we moved to SWFL, I love breaking out the camera to catch nature’s creatures. Hope you enjoy them as well!

One of a pair of frogs seeking shelter from Hurricane Milton in my birdhouse.

An anhinga (aka ‘snake bird’) trying to dry his wings on our fountain (just pre-Milton).

Frog on the window at my office.

Spoonbill on Sanibel Island right after Hurricane Helene. (Cell phone pic so crappy quality)

‘Lester’ our resident lake Gator … He’d been stalking something on the water’s edge all day.

Lester — just this morning — awaiting rescue on our lake’s fountain after Hurricane Milton hit yesterday/last night.

An ibis flying by behind our home.

A great blue heron hanging out on our lake during Hurricane Helene.

Same heron trying to keep his balance.

Same heron … Helene’s winds were picking up.

More frogs on my office window.

A Crested Caracara scoping out options for a meal on our lake.

A bald Eagle in flight … we have a pair that live in the preserve by our home.
DSC_2120.jpeg

Not sure if this was the same eagle or not … we see them fairly often.

A Muscovy duck momma & her babies … not sure why people here hate these ducks so much, but I love them! DSC_2845.jpeg

This was the day before Milton hit. We had a very large proliferation of birds that came from the West Coast to here (this also happened with Helene). We have herons as the canal is on the north side of my house, but we usually don't see so many just roaming around. (the red thing is my car)

@the_mother_thing Great photos. Thank you. Some of the wildlife that I never see here in New England.

You’re most welcome; happy to share! I have really rediscovered my love of photography being here. We’re blessed with an abundance of wildlife that pass through our yard, and I have a Ring camera set up to see the critters who visit at night, too.

Looks like a wood stork!

Who caught the Aurora yesterday? I was late to the party and totally didn't know it was going to be seen here. I'm so bummed about it. By the time I knew, it was well past the best time to see it so only got these lousy photos. If you have better, please show them. Seeing it in person is on my bucket list, and yesterday would have been the day to do it without even travelling. Bad me.

Screenshot_20241011_210622_Messages.jpgI could not see it, where I was!! But my friend sent me this from her frontyard, gorgeous

All my friends in the know got such better pictures than I did. I'm in New England and the show was really WOW apparently (for them :cry2:)

I wanted to see it so badly too!! Fingers crossed that we will get a chance again soon

Yesterday this sweet boy showed up with his mate while I was in the backyard. They stared straight at me and chirped and yelled for a good couple minutes. I hadn't been replinishing their feeder!! We went straight to the store and bought more seeds. Today he is extremely happy20241013_120912.jpg20241013_120854.jpg

You know it probably is. I call them all herons...lol. I've never seen this one before though (there were 4, I think they've all left)
