Vry nice..i really like the look of the elongated oval..your picture taking is excellent with multiple angles and colors showing..I like it..i think in genes photo the color looks a little stale but your photos bring some serious life to the stone and make it jump out more..very nice!!!

wow, thankyou amguy - what a lovely compliment.
To be honest, I really felt I wasn''t doing this gem justice with my pics as it''s just so pretty to the eye..so it''s nice to have your comments.

(Not to mention I admire Gene''s photos!).

especially with the precision cutting the stone looks like it has a steely look..after looking at your photos again that is what it looks like to me..I have never said that about a cut stone before..it''s like a purple steel look..maybe not steel but icey looking or very very crisp...I like it even more now..

That is beautiful AJ!!! it matches the flower? in your avatar a bit...

Wow, what a gem!

P. S. A simple, elegant yg plain split shank solitaire is what came to my mind when I saw the stone. But I''m sure it''ll turn out pretty whatever you do with it.

Its great!

Makes me hopeful for my Gene stone! I just love that color.

Gorgeous stone and fantastic cutting. I love that it matches the flowers in your avatar.

I know you haven''t thought about the setting, but I could really see that in an ornate antique style brooch. (Not sure if you wear them.) Maybe you can get a ring that can be a brooch?

I think for the most part, all well cut spinels display this particular charectaristic....except the reds. This stone is really exceptional for its color and cut.

WOW, what a beautiful stone

Unreal. The faceting and colour on that spinel are just gorgeous! Love your pics, as always, AJ!

Aj,

You always take such beautiful pictures!! The stone is amazing! It caught my eye every time I check out Gene''s website. Would love to hear how you intend to set it.

I haven''t posted in a while but I feel compelled to do so because that is SUCH A PRETTY STONE!!!! I have looked at it on Gene''s site and wondered what it would look like in real life. Looking forward to seeing what you will do with it.

oh AJ!

It''s not often I am seriously jealous of someone''e gemstone - but this one is absolutely breathtaking - congratulations on a stunningly beautiful stone. Of course, Gene helped!!

I look forward to seeing what you do with this one!

I did consider this stone, after seeing an amethyst (long oval - that got snapped up) - and loving the long shape of the oval.

It''s gorgeous - enjoy it!!

It''s gorgeous...but how in the world does it only rate a 5 for brilliance?!?

Hey Jstar - because 5 is the highest for brilliance!

I honestly don''t know why this stone sat on Gene''s site for so long - but I''m glad it did ! I loved it from when it was first posted.

D''oh! Well that explains it! Wonder why he uses a different scale for that...

You know how to pick em AJ! I love it. Wish my elongated oval was cut as nice...this one is a winner and can''t wait to see what you do with it!

AJ, sorry if my post came off wrong. I never intended to do anything but compliment the stone! And thanks Cellentani for clearing everything up. I guess I need to pay closer to attention to how I phrase things. Perhaps this will work better:

That is a GORGEOUS stone. Absolutely lovely. And Gene did a great job cutting it too!

Hey am - you''re correct about the "crispness" - the facets show up very clearly like that.
I don''t know much about spinels and only own one small other one, but this one has definitely made me a fan.

I''m glad you appreciated the photos - I may have time to try for some nicer ones later today

Arcadian,
The steely characteristic is dependent on the individual spinel; it is not an attribute of the cut. A majority of spinels, well cut or not, tend to have a gray component that many here consider steely or cold. There are very few spinels that do not have this steely appearance, thus making it appear to be a common characteristic of spinels.

C,
that may be the case, but I can assure this one doesn''t have any grey IRL - I didn''t think the pics showed any either

It shows just purples, violets and hot pinks - like I mentioned, pretty much exact to the example photo from Gene''s site.

Thanks ma re - and I like your setting idea.
I was thinking RG for this one though perhaps..?

Thanks Novel! What type of stone are you getting?

Cheers litebrite - I don''t actually wear broaches - or even really pendants
7.gif

I wish I did wear more different jewels like that, as my collection of rings just keeps growing, lol!

Thanks arcadian - as I mentioned I haven''t seen many spinels, but I like to think my one is exceptional

Cheers Marian and LTP!

Thanks goodsoul - yes this one caught my eye since it was posted too.
I'm glad I got the chance to own it.
When I have a setting idea, I'll be happy to share

Hi Austen - no need to apologize, like I mentioned earlier I was just in a bad mood and mis-read the intent of your post. No probs at all, and thankyou for your kind compliments!

You know how to pick em AJ! I love it. Wish my elongated oval was cut as nice...this one is a winner and can''t wait to see what you do with it!

Cheers Tgal - my "collection" is slowly but surely growing - not much compared to most around here! But I do really love each stone I own.
Which oval of yours are you referring to hon?

I''m open to any suggestions for the setting on this one!

....wow!

It is absolutely beautiful. The color really holds its own, and Gene''s cutting is superb! Wow!

I love it AJ, the color is really gorgeous. I really like how the color shifts too.

I can''t wait to see how you set it, you have the best collection too.

Ack, I was at work yesterday, sneaking on here and saw this-ohhhh it''s just so beautiful! Ha, I apparently made some sort of noise when I was looking at the pictures-my front coworker turned around and loooked at me and she''s like "Jeez Missi do you need to be alone?" hahaha.

It''s gorgeous AJ and I so look forward to what you do with it! I like yellow gold...however, we just don''t see enough rose gold I don''t think!

My oval is my pad...it''s on the elongated side. I haven''t seen the stone in awhile so I don''t remember much about it. I''ll get the ring tomorrow so we''ll see if I can recommend Leon''s 5 stone setting.

AJ, rose would surely be fine too, but I really think yellow would bring out all it''s faces in the most elegant way. Of course, it''s all down to preference so do what you think would suit you best, and what you''d enjoy the most
