oh AJ!
It''s not often I am seriously jealous of someone''e gemstone - but this one is absolutely breathtaking - congratulations on a stunningly beautiful stone. Of course, Gene helped!!
I look forward to seeing what you do with this one!
I did consider this stone, after seeing an amethyst (long oval - that got snapped up) - and loving the long shape of the oval.
It''s gorgeous - enjoy it!!

I love it AJ, the color is really gorgeous. I really like how the color shifts too.
I can''t wait to see how you set it, you have the best collection too.

Ack, I was at work yesterday, sneaking on here and saw this-ohhhh it''s just so beautiful! Ha, I apparently made some sort of noise when I was looking at the pictures-my front coworker turned around and loooked at me and she''s like ''Jeez Missi do you need to be alone?'' hahaha.
It''s gorgeous AJ and I so look forward to what you do with it! I like yellow gold...however, we just don''t see enough rose gold I don''t think!

My oval is my pad...it''s on the elongated side. I haven''t seen the stone in awhile so I don''t remember much about it. I''ll get the ring tomorrow so we''ll see if I can recommend Leon''s 5 stone setting.Date: 10/8/2009 9:51:22 AM

You know how to pick em AJ! I love it. Wish my elongated oval was cut as nice...this one is a winner and can''t wait to see what you do with it!
Cheers Tgal - my ''collection'' is slowly but surely growing - not much compared to most around here! But I do really love each stone I own.
Which oval of yours are you referring to hon?
I''m open to any suggestions for the setting on this one!

AJ, rose would surely be fine too, but I really think yellow would bring out all it''s faces in the most elegant way. Of course, it''s all down to preference so do what you think would suit you best, and what you''d enjoy the most

AJ I have a tough time understanding your posts again
Are you saying that you'd like something similar to that last photo you posted - in which case I'm all for it, as that's one of the rare all-white pieces of jewellery that made me look again (and again...) in quite some time. It's really something.
BTW, I might be wrong, but I think you could mix some rhodolites or amethysts with that spinel, and when it comes to shape, trillion seems like something that could work nicely with that elongated oval.
Enjoy the ride!
AJ, I think that your oval might look a tad skinny with baguettes set in the way you show in the picture. Hence my suggestion of skinny half moons (can''t imagine they will be easy to come by, but I may be wrong).Date: 10/16/2009 11:41:29 AM

Thanks ladies!
Gailey, great minds think alike - I love the half moon idea, and that would be still reasonably affordable in the sizes that would be needed in diamond. Perhaps also white sapphire?
(as far as the colour, Gene''s photo is really the most representative of viewing in natural light).
I also like this
As to matching another colour - the only ones I can think atm that would work would be mahenge spinels (or maybe hot pink sapphires?)..
That would sure be different!
What do ya reckon..? Does anyone wanna dare me to try and find a matching pair of fine mahenge spinels cut in half moons to accompany my purple spinel?..lol..

As to the hot pink sapphire or mahenge spinels, if you look at the ''Calling Chrono'' thread you will see that thiis is potentially more difficult to find than skinny half moonn diamonds. I suspect either will be as rare as rocking horse doo-doo off the peg.
But of course you never know, and as always I will keep my eyes peeled for you.

WOW that''s just an amazing stone. It must be very well cut! The cut keeps showing in all of your photos. And the color is lovely too. Congrats!!!

Ya, good point Gailey - the half moons would be really elegant, I think it would be lovely.
That would put me up to...ohh, only a meager 4 x different 3 stone rings - not too much?
What do you think, yellow or white metal? I reckon if I could get someone to source the half moons, JKT could do this ring very nicely in gold..
Now you got me thinking, G, lol! This one was planned to just sit and wait for at least for awhile, ha ha..
I have absolutely no idea what your horse doo doo comment means
But if it''s what I suspect, than yes, I assumed getting a matching pair of nice mahenge in any cut would be a crazy task.
I think Barry would have some nice rubellite-type colour tourms which would do the trick for a pink and purple ring...or like ma re suggested, tanga garnets..
But honestly I''m liking diamonds with purple - I''ve always adored LIB''s purple spinel ring, that was one of the first CS rings I really took notice of.

Thanks for posting LIB''s ring AJ, but I wish you hadn''t! Now I want one too!!
And I am always happy to translate the finer examples of our wonderful language: Off-the-peg
And with that, I think it is time for Gailey to get off her soapbox (seems she''s been on it too long today) and wind her way up the ''apples and pears''
Night AJ
