I just adore Barry''s square cushions!!!! That stone is gorgeous!

Thank you TLH, Amber, Linda and Lauren!

Check back later - I just received the LOGR setting so I''m going to take some pictures soon and post them

Gorgeous stone and setting...gosh, that is going to be one stunning ring!

Ooooh, you got the setting?! Are you happy with it? I''m gonna be checking back every few minutes, so don''t leave us all hanging.... I beg you (no pun intended). I can''t wait to see it (obviously).

Also, is this ring for a special occasion for your mom? I have three daughters and a son, so I will be showing this thread to them for sure (and never mind that the youngest is only 6 - never to soon to learn)!

What a beautiful stone! It looks like...Grape Kool-Aid! I mean that in the best way possible of course - I love grape Kool-Aid!

Very pretty stone!

Thanks Omie! I would send LOGR a message and see if they can do the white and yellow gold. Asscherhalo_lover just got the same setting in two-tone (rose gold on top with a white gold shank) so I bet it''s totally possible! linky Which stone are you thinking? The new one from Barry? That would look killer!
...Waiting for pictures...

Asscherhalo_lover''s LOGR setting gave me the idea of going two tone, only with 14k gold. Not sure what I will do, as I still need to see the garnet in real life. Part of me wants a sleek and simple setting (OMG try saying sleek and simple setting really fast 10 times in a row), but it will really depend on the stone''s character.

Though, I cannot wait to see the amythest paired with the LOGR setting, hurry up!

Thank you Diamond*Dana, Miranda and Marcy!

Cellentani, your comment about showing this to your kids made me laugh so hard!

I''m happy with it. I think it''s a little bit crooked (which I kind of expected after hearing from Tourmaline_Lover that her custom setting came out a little crooked too) - but it''s not too noticeable and I''m pretty sure my mom won''t notice. The diamonds seem ok but I''ll have to check them out tomorrow in sunlight. As long as it sparkles, it''s ok. Here are pictures! Sorry, they''re inside in dim lighting so not the greatest. The ring is for my mom''s birthday (which is at the end of February), and for Mother''s day, although I''ll probably get her something else (though a little smaller) then too.
1.gif
I think you''re on the right track with your kids though! My mom began EARLY in instilling a love of jewelry in me and see what happened??
2.gif

Miranda, I feel ya- I love Kool-aid too!

Omie, I love love love Asscherhalo''s ring - SUCH a good idea about going two-tone. I wish I had done two-tone on this, but I know my mom''s not a fan of rose gold. I think I might want to eventually do a full rose gold LOGR for an amethyst soon - I love that purple and pink combo.

For your garnet, I would wait and see. It might look best in a simple setting that really shoes off the color...or you might find that a halo and a two-tone would absolutely enhance it.

On my finger - oh and the ring is a size 7

Oh and the setting (from a different vendor, not LOGR) came in for my mom''s friend''s alexandrite (which may be lab-created, according to my jewelers). Just to clarify I didn''t buy this one - my mom''s friend has had it for years and it''s currently set as a pin. She wanted a setting like the one I have for my green tourmaline (it''s the same one, but with single prongs and customized for the much much bigger alexandrite, which I think is 12 mm).

The setting is by Jewe2004, 14 kt. white gold, no upgrades, size 6.5

Another - the alex is still set into the pin setting so that''s why the prongs look all weird

I remember a comment you posted, which stated that your mom likes big/blingy jewelry and I think you have done well on this front. My next question is, of course, when will the amethyst be set? In terms of the garnet, I will wait and see before deciding what to do with it. It is fun to ponder the possibilities though.

BEG - I think that BB amethyst makes that LOGR setting look pretty swanky. They look great together, and the halo size is well-proportioned to the stone. You already have a LOGR legacy ring, right? Off to check...

Aha, I thought so, but I don''t think I''d seen pics. That umbalite ring is gorgeous. It seems like everything I''ve been thinking about or wanting lately, you already have LOL! Anyway, I was curious - does the 10mm sit higher off the hand than your 7mm? Also, is there an outward slope to your 7mm halo, because from the pics (which can be so deceiving) the 10mm halo looks flat - no curve (does that make sense?). The amount of time and effort you''ve invested in trying to make something nice for your mom is very touching. And I''m not saying that in a self-serving way - I won''t even show the kids this post. It''s obvious that you really care about her in the way you take into consideration her own personal style and taste. Hey, did you post any pics of her Cmas ring? I only saw the stone.

On another note, from trolling your profile to find your LOGR, I realized you''re in Chicago (for some strange reason, I thought you were in NY - don''t know why). I met my DH when he was in law school there (U of C).

BEG, I did not know you were from Chicago. I do not live far from the city, myself.

I live in a suburb of Chicago!!

BEG, did you upgrade the diamonds in the LOGR above (I forget), and how do you like the diamonds in the Jewe2004? The gold looks really thick on the LOGR.

I just have to say YAY

One more question. You said you noticed the LOGR was a little bit crooked. Are you talking about the bezel part, or the halo part, or everything? Thanks!!! My LOGR 8mm is crooked a little bit, but it''s the bezel part, and it''s not that noticable. The halo part is fine.

Thank you Omie! I''m actually about to head out to the jewelers now - it''s about an hour away from me (

) because we''re basically on opposite ends of the city, so I need to hurry (got to be back for class later!)

Aw thanks Cellentani! I actually did need to work with my mom on this - she''s really particular about her jewelry so I wanted to make sure she''d like it and would actually wear it (good thing that I didn''t intend for it to be a surprise, since I had to ask her later if she wanted the LOGR one that I ended up getting, or a similar LOGR halo that was significantly less because it was already sized for a 10 mm stone).

I''m not sure about the curve of the halo (I think I do know what you''re saying) but I''ll check tonight when I get back from class.

Which Cmas ring was this? I''ve been taking too many pictures lately!

And yep, I''m in Chicago although I''m heading to NY this summer and after graduation. That''s too funny Cellentani - what year did he graduate? I''m there now (same school)!

Awesome! Did you know we''re having a GTG this Friday? 7 PM, Ghiradelli''s on Michigan - you should come!

You too! GTG this Friday at 7!

I didn''t upgrade - the gold does look pretty thick, but I think it''s just because of the size of the stone. I''ll check on the diamond quality when I go outside - it was hard to get an idea last night in dimmer indoors lighting.

I think it''s the halo part - one side looked a leeeeetle bit thinner than the other. There''s a chance i probably wouldn''t have noticed it except I was looking for crookedness, lol. But I''ll check again. I think the rest of it is fine, especially since this one''s going to be prong-set - the jewelers can smooth out anything to do with that. Hopefully.

No, I did not realize there was a GTG this week. It''s my fault, as I have not had time to check out the hangout area. Unfortunately, I cannot make it, but thanks for letting me know. I seriously have to make it to one of these GTGs...though, I do not have anything interesting to show anyone.

I wish I could make it, but I hate driving and finding parking downtown.

Northwest suburbs. I would go to the GTG but it''s past my bedtime, LOL, and I have a really hard time seeing at night. My night vision stinks.

Depending on your location, you could take the Metra and then grab a cab. That is probably what I would do because I would not take the L that late in the evening.

http://www.metrarail.com/ then click on "quick schedule" if you know which line you would take.

If you do not know, follow this link: http://metrarail.com/Stations/index.html

Maybe you changed your mind about your mom''s Cmas ring, but I saw pics of a .82ct Dan Stair sapphire. You were trying to figure out what eBay setting to put it in.

He graduated in ''92 (I know, that really dates us). My brother (also law student) and DH were housemates at the time, and we got married the day after his graduation in Bond Chapel. I''ve got pics of me standing on the quad in a big wedding dress!! Not exactly a dream destination wedding, but it fit everyone''s schedule at the time. I just emailed DH to tell him where you are, and I already told him about the birthday-thing last night.

How long before you get the amethyst and alexandrite set? Do you think your jeweler will need to do any modifications to the LOGR setting?

Ohh sad that you ladies can''t make it! TL - public transportation! I''m taking public transportation from Hyde Park...well probably I''ll be in the downtown area anyway. I have a LASIK follow-up at 2 in Lincoln Park so I might as well do some shopping and hanging out at Tiffanys
2.gif

Cellentani, I forgot about that sapphire! It is way too small for my mom (I showed it to her) so I''m hanging onto it for now (she got a wallet from me instead for Xmas). I think I might have it bezel set sometime and maybe get a couple more smaller ones and jump on the stacking rings bandwagon
3.gif
It''s still too funny and coincidental that your husband graduated from UC - I''m sitting in the Green Lounge now in preparation for class. I wonder if he ever had Prof. Epstein? I''m positive Epstein would''ve been around then, as well as Prof. Strauss. Did he ever have Obama?

I asked my jeweler if they could have my setting ready by next Tuesday because I leave for home on Wednesday (BF is meeting my parents- my dad is home from the Middle East). It looks likely so hopefully I''ll have good pictures soon!
