Royal Jewels

Today (17 July) HRH The Duchess of Cornwall grew with one more year. HRH is now 62.
Probably you remember my posts with jewels, that Camilla has worn during the years. On ocassion of her birthday I will post some baubles that wire not included before.

When I first saw this picture, I thought it was a new PoW feather brooch, but after I saw the larger version I realized it's not. Probably the brooch has it's own name, but I don't know it. The name that I gave it is The Diamond Fringe Brooch, because of the resemblance with fringe tiaras.

Any information about its provenance? What abot the golden badge?

Here is another with the same brooch. I think white/light colours really suite Camilla. And just one more thing - I love this necklace! I think from all the Wondsor three rows this is my absolute favourite. A huge Thank You to the late Queen Mother for her choice.

Some amethysts - huge stones in the earrings and a rather small, but lovely necklace. I belive thise are either gifts from Prince Charles, or familly pieces.

Another from Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother's brooches. This one was worn during last year's Garter Service. Garnets?

I can''t see the picture. Can you?
Lets try again:

Someone asked if this is a VC&A. Well, I don''t know that, but here is a close-up for everyone to enjoy

And just because I couldn't resist - a regal Duchess, that can pull off big jewels. And WOW!!! Sorry for that, but Charles must be a happy man!

Happy birthday Your Royal Highness!!!

Cheers!
Bobby

Today afer I was searching for a photo of the ''Queen Anne'' and ''Queen Caroline'' necklaces, I found this pocture in my RJ folder. This is (one of) the official photograph(s) of the jewels that were presented to Princess Elizabet of York (The Queen) at her wedding. On the first row are: The Queens Anne and Caroline pearls, the Greville ruby bandeau/necklace, The Greville Chandelier earrings and The Girls of GB&I tiara, one of Queen Mary''s diamond bangles, her stomacher, the Dorset bow brooch and a hint of Grany''s tiara''s base, that Queen Mary used to wear as a bandeau. On the second row are a diamond watch, the City of London fringe necklace, an unknown necklace and other trinkets.
Queen Mary gave Queen Elizabet a set of sapphire and diamond jewels. The set included a necklace, pair of earrings and a brooch. QEQM wore the earrings and brooch occasionally, but never the necklace. Do you think that the unknown necklace is the one from QM''s present?

This is fascinating, Bobby, I''ve never seen this picture. Thanks for posting it!

An interesting bit on the watch in the lower left-hand corner: the watch is called the Swiss Federal Republic watch, which was made by Vacheron & Constantin, the oldest watch company in the world. It''s one of the smallest watches in the world. QEII gave it to the Princess of Wales as a wedding gift, but I believe it''s been since returned, as was the case with other gifted jewels of royal provenance, after her untimely death (or perhaps even after the divorce).

I suppose the necklace could be part of the sapphires you spoke of...I''ve never seen that necklace, nor have I heard about them. QEQM wasn''t such a jewelry wearer as Queen Mary was, but I''m still surprised to hear about them. Do you know more about these mysterious sapphires?

Hi, shadowed rain and everyone else!

The late Queen Mother enjoyed wearing jewels and had a priceless collection at her disposal. She wore many brooches and wore them even when she spend family holidays in Balmoral, Sandringham and The Castle of Mey. I think that her favourite brooches were from Queen Victoria and Alexandra. HM also had many jewels that were given of bequeathed to her.
Sapphires were not HM's favourite gems. Although she looked good in blue, QEQM: stoped wearing her sapphire ering long before The King died; didn't wear sapphire brooches often; never wore a sapphire necklace.

Bobby

I'm sure that this is the brooch from Queen Mary's gift:

These must be the earrings.

The brooch that QEQM wears is one of her (3) brooches with a big sapphire center and diamond border. One of them was given to The Princess of Wales as a engagement/wedding present.

And here is Elizabet II's diamond watch. I've seen the diamond bracelt worn by Queen Alexandra and Queen Mary.

After I read Shadowed Rain's post I remembered, that many pages ago we wera discussing royal watches and I posted a picture, similar to this one. I also said that it was a gift to Diana. Thanks SR for refreshing my memory!
You're right again. The wedding gift jewels from the RF were returned to the BP vault, after Diana's death. The Princess of Wales was allowed to keep them afterher the divorce, but with the proviso that she couldn't lend or sell them. Someday she had to pass them to William and Henry's wifes.
BTW has anyone seen a picture of Diana wearing it?

Here''s Princess Maxima. I don''t remember what event this is but I think that she looks gorgeous!

Queen Elizabeth wore a Jaeger LeCoultre watch with a Cal. 101 movement at her coronation. And, if I'm not mistaken, the watch was not branded Jaeger LeCoultre on the watch face (in other words, it had no brand name on it). If anyone has any further information about this watch and/or pictures of it, I would appreciate it. Thanks, all, for the continuing contributions to this enjoyable thread!

Thanks for the lovely pictures of the Dutch royal family and the Danish royal family, estelaris!

The tiara that Princess Mary is wearing is unfortunately a loan only, but it''s made of silver and moonstones, I believe. On the Royal Forums in the Princess Mary thread, this tiara''s created quite a bit of a buzz, as it''s the first new tiara we''ve seen on her in quite some time (her only other tiaras being Queen Ingrid''s ruby parure--which belongs to her husband--and her wedding tiara from Queen Margarethe II and Prince Henri). I''ve posted a picture of the ruby parure below.

The Dutch royal house has a number of stunning ruby sets, notably the Mellerio ruby tiara (seen on Queen Beatrix) and the peacock tiara on Princess Maxima, which is the first time the whole set has been seen for around 40 years.

Queen Beatrix

I know evryone has his own opnion, but The Mellerio Ruby Tiara remindes me of of a fence and the rubies of STOP signes saying DO NOT ENTER!!! I think the necklace and the stomacher are the most beautiful pieces from the parure. The earrings are lovely too.

Here they are:

You are right, Shadowed Rain. The modern tiara was part of an exhibition in Copenhagen. The Crown Princess wore in at the dinner for the Prince Consort''s 75 birthday.
BTW the price is really high for a set with so small diamonds. I belive the price was more than E200.000 and for so much money you can buy a much bigger diamond jewel. The reason for the price might be that the jewels are hand made.

This is a photo of the tiara from the exhibition''s site. There were other tiaras from the royal family''s collection. If you want I''ll post them.

I have a question about her rings. Look at the small pic of her hands. Why is she wearing her engagement ring on her right hand, instead of the usual left hand with the wedding band? Have you seen the other diamond and sapphire(?) ring?
Thanks in advance.

How impolite I am!

I saw Estelaris' posted, then replied to one of them, but never welcomed the new member!

So, Welcome, Estelaris! And Thank you for stopping my posts of the British jewels. I'm glad you posted pics of rubies, because as you know they're the stone for July:) Congratulations for the avatar! I love sapphire and the Logan is a magnificent example!

Bobby

And another ruby tiara - This one was a wedding present to Princess Margaret of Connaught by Eduard VII and Alexandra. I don't know about you, but IMO most ruby tiaras are disasters. Notable exceptions are the Danish (Frederic's) parure, the Oriental circlet and probably the Greek ruies.

Why is she wearing her engagement ring on her right hand, instead of the usual left hand with the wedding band?

I can only speculate. Might it be because her fingers were swollen since she was expecting at the time? (She was expecting; I have no idea whether her fingers were swollen!)

In some countries, among them Denmark and Norway, they wear the engagement ring on their right hand.
