Royal Jewels

In keeping with the Tecks, here is the famous pearl Teck corsage brooch. It''s an impressive piece, QE2 wears it often. Queen Mary''s mother wore it very prominently.

The last Teck picture, I promise

Here is Queen Mary''s grandmother (I think? Please don''t quote me on this...) wearing the Teck crescent rose tiara and the circle necklace that Princess Margaret made famous. I really enjoy this picture, she has a quality of serene elegance that isn''t common to see anymore.

Here''s the Duchess of Gloucester wearing the pearl dog collar I mentioned earlier, with the impressive Indian tiara that belonged to Princess Marie Louise, daughter of Princess Helena and therefore a granddaughter of Queen Victoria. I believe that Princess Marie-Louise bequeathed the tiara to Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, who in turn passed the tiara down to the current Duchess of Gloucester. It''s absolutely a stunning piece and one of my personal favorites

Here''s a close-up of the Gloucester Cartier tiara. Stunning, is it not?

Here''s a nice close-up of the Papyrus tiara which belonged to QEQM and Princess Margaret, and is currently owned by Princess Margaret''s children. Her daughter wore the tiara at her wedding, I believe.

Here''s a young QE2 wearing the tiara from Nizam of Hyderabad (later broken up, it''s believed, to create the Burmese ruby tiara) and her ruby v-shaped bandeau necklace.

And finally, a rare picture of QE2 wearing glasses as a middle-aged woman. She''s wearing the King George VI Victorian sapphire suite, along with Queen Alexandra''s kokoshnik tiara.

Hi, Shadowed rain! I was surprised to hear that The Queen often wears the brooch. Here is the only picture that I have in my folders and one of the times I''ve seen it on HM. Do you or anyone else have other pics of it? Do you have a picture of The Duchess of Teck wearing it?

Queen Elizabeth II wearing the brooch in Sudan:

And another jewel that''s unfortunately hidden in the vault - The Cullinan VI and VIII brooch:

A closer piture of the Greville ruby bandeau and the Nazim tiara. It''s such a shame that this beautiful tiara was dismantled in order to create the not so attractive Burmese ruby! At least the three roses were preserved.
The pearls that are in the earrings were a wedding predent from The Sheikh of Bahrain.

Hi Bobby!

I certainly do have a couple of pictures of QE2 wearing the brooch. It''s by no means her "favorite" brooch, but she does wear it often enough that most people can readily identify it.

Here''s the second one I have, although it''s not as clear as the first. It''s recognizable, though.

Princess/Queen Frederica is just beautiful...I think the tiara looks best on her...sorta reminds me a little of Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday!

Hi, Shadowed rain!

This is the picture I meant. Thanks!

Which brooch do you think is HM''s favourite? I''d say the bow brooches, the Cullinan V and the star brooch are one of the most frequently worn.

What a great comparison, UCLABelle! I haven''t watches the film, but have seen pictures of Mrs. Hepburn and I think you''re right.
Here is a picture specially for you - Frederica with Queen Sofie''s tiara. IMO the head jewel is too big for the innocent looking and young princess, but yet a nice picture.

I know this is not the best picture, but is The Queen of Greece''s pendant the huge sapphire that Queen Marie of Romania once owned?

Here is Princess Letizia wearing the same tiara. I posted this pic a few months ago.

Thanks Bobby for all the info that you found... it''s terrific. I''ll see if I can find more of the Spanish jewels.

Oh good, I''m glad it was the one you were thinking of

It''s difficult to say what her favorite brooches are, but the ones you listed above are all quite plausible, she does wear all of them very frequently. If I had to add some to the list, I would vote the Prince Albert brooch, her pink diamond brooch, any of the emerald brooches (she wears most of them equally), or her flower brooches (the flower baskets, Commonwealth flowered brooches, etc.). She certainly has an array to choose from.

I absolutely agree with the comparison between Queen Frederica and Audrey Hepburn...the resemblance is uncanny. I think it''s kind of sad that the Spanish royal family has to watch their steps so much with the displays of wealth and jewels, they have some stunning pieces.

And Bobby, I believe that the huge sapphire in the picture you posted did belong to Queen Marie of Romania. I''ll do some research to back it up, but pretty sure it did belong to her.

Dear Shadowed Rain,

HH Princess Marie Louse was Prince Richard of Gloucester's godmother. At the time of her death his elder brother, Prince William, was still alive and no one expected that Richard will bicome Duke one day. As you can guess titles go with the major jewels. That's why Princess Marie Louise decided to leave her Cartier Sapphire Tiara to the present Duke, not to his mother. I think the late princess left some furniture to th Duke of Kent, but I'm not 100% sure.

Somehting interesting about the tiara - each sapphire is individualy cut so that it fits the fancy setting. And the ornaments on top of the tiara have sapphires and we get the ilsion of depth. Very tricky and wise!

The present Duchess of Gloucester wearing the tiara during the President of Mexico's state visit this year. I raelly like and respect the Duchess, but why doesn't she commission a new dress? I like it, but HRH has been wearing this one for 4 years. At least she changes the jewels!

Queen Marie of Romania wearing the huge sapphire suspended from her long diamond necklace. Her Majesty''s also wearing the famous Grand Duchess Vladimir''s sapphire tiara, that was presented to Princess Ileana of Romania when she married HIH Archduke Anton of Austria, Prince of Tuscany.

The sapphire pendant was inherited by King Mihai. When he left the counry in 1947 the jewels was one of the things he brought with him. Due to his financial problems, I belive, HM sold the jewel and it was acquired by Harry Winston. In 2003 the sapphire was auctioned again.

Since I fist saw the picture of Queen Frederica a year and a half ago, I''ve been occasionally searching for information about that isue, but sadly couldn''t find any clue. Can we assume that it was simply a loan from the famous jeweller?

You are welcome, Estelaris! The Spanish royals have many beautifyl pieces, but unfortunately for us Raoyal Jewellery lavers and explorers don't wear them often. Hopefully Some day Letizia will start wearing the important family pieces and pleasure us.

BTW is this picture from the French state visit? I can't remeber what Leti wore then.

Here is an official photograph of the happy couple from the Spanis Royal Family's website.

I''ve seen this picture of Princess Sibylle of Sachse-Coburg-Gotha wearing a wonderful tiara of wich i know nothing about, but this seems to be the forum where someone might know.... I''ve been told the picture is taken before her marrige (To HRH Gustaf Adolf Edmund, archduke of Sweden) so it should belong to the Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha collection.

I''ve found this quite funny picture of Princess Lillian of Sweden, duchess of Halland, celebrating the millenium.
No jewels, but sparkly. :-) says something about her sence of humour.

Hi, robinj!

Thank you for the picture of Princess Sibylla. When I first saw it, I thought I''ve never seen it, but I found this picture, where HRH wears the sapphire necklace Ferdinand of Bulgaria gave her as wedding present. So I''d say the big stones are sapphires.

I new I''ve seen the tiara recently, so I searched for the picture. And I found it on Princess Margarita''s head. On TheRoyalForums.com The tiara was called "Crown Princess Margaret''s Aquamarine Kokoshnik". To me I''s not likely to waer an important sapphire necklace with an important aqua tiara, but who knows what the Princess was thinking?
The picture is from Princess Christina and Tord Magnuson''s wedding in 1974. The tiara is the last one from L to R:

Thank you so much! I just knew that someone here would know about that tiara!!

Both, Princess Margaret of Connaught and Lady Louise Mountbaten, recived aquamarine jewellery. As far as I know Queen Louise Seft most of her aqua jewels to relatives in England and Germany, while Princess Margaret''s jewels remanines in Sweden.

Here is another picture of Princess Christina from the wedding, that shows the tiara''s stones as light blue. I''d say perfect aquamarines.

I forgot - Welcome to the Pricescope, robinj. I hope you''ll contribite a lot to this thread. Enjoy your time here.

You''re welcome, robinj! As I said it''s strange to mix coloured stones in two so beatiful jewels, but apparently it doesn''t mater with B&W photos.

Bobby

thank you for your warm welcome! I also hope I can contribute with something.

I just love this picture of HM Queen Silvia and HM Queen Elizabeth from the early 80s... so much sparkle you need sunglasses. :-)

HMQ Silvia is wearing the Braganza tiara and I guess HMQ Elizabeth is wearing the Girls of Great Britian and Ireland tiara.
