In some countries, among them Denmark and Norway, they wear the engagement ring on their right hand.

Thank you, Mimmi! I didn't know that. Doesn't The Queen of Denmark wear her ering on her left hand?

What a lovely princess. Bobby, do you know what the elephant design signifies in the chain she''s wearing?

Hi, Tourmaline Lover, HRH is wearing The Order of the Elephant''s Collar.
This is what the official site of the Danish Monarchy says about the oreder - The badge of the Order of the Elephant is a white, enamelled, gold elephant decorated with a cross on one side and the monogram of the reigning monarch on the other. The elephant carries a tower on its back and a black moor holding a spear on its neck. The badge is worn either on a chain of gold elephants and towers, or on a blue ribbon across the left shoulder together with the Star of the Order.
The chain/collar is only worn on New Years Day and on the Monarch''s birthday.

AGBF: I can only speculate. Might it be because her fingers were swollen since she was expecting at the time? (She was expecting; I have no idea whether her fingers were swollen!)

Thank you, AGBF! I never thought about that possibility. Mimmi might be right as well, but Princess Marie wore the ring on her left hand when the engagement was announced (first post on the forst page).

The Royal Collection has a new exibition called "Queen & Commonwealth". There are many objects conected with the Commonwealth: gifts, orders, gowns.

The Spray brooch was given to Elizabeth II during the State Visit to Sri Lanka in October 1981. The royal collection says that it''s set with precious and semi-precious stones . What do you think they are? I''d say sapphires (blue and coloured), garnet, tourmaline, citrine, maybe some rubies. I''m not sure what the cabochons are. Suggestions, anyone?

This is what I've been able to find out about the elephant in the Danish Order of the Elephant:
The elephant is an old symbol of chastity and faith in God. You could say it symbolically stands as a champion of Christianity.

Thanks Mimmi,
Now I get it.

Thanks again Bobby for all the wonderful pictures!! I didn't realize how glamourous the Danish princes' wives were until I saw this thread.

Hi, Tourmaline Lover!

The Danes have a rather modest jewellery collection(compared to the Swedish and British), but they compensate us with beautiful princesses.

Here is a Princess from the previous generation - Princess Anne Marie, later Queen of Greece, wearing the ruby necklace and hair pins that was a 18th birthbay present from her parents. I think HM was the most beautiful princess from a reigning house at the time. Now even at almost 63 Anne Marie is an attractive (ex)Queen.

WOW....Anne Marie is one of my favorite royals....look at her here!!! Where did you find this photo Bobby?

Hi, Lori!

It''s nice to hear that HM Queen Anne Marie is one of your favourites. She is one of my favs too. I''m not sure where the picture came from, but maybe it''s from The Alexander Palace from the Constantine II & Anne Marie thread.
Here is Queen Anne Marie again. Apart from the watermark I think this is my favourite picture of The Queen. The occasion is either a pre wedding or a royal birthday. You can see a pair of diamond cluster earrings with pearl drops, a four row pearl necklace (Princess Diana wore an almost identical one) and a Tuti Fruti(?) brooch. I think AM''s also wearing a diamond pendant, but I''m not sure.
I also like her coiffure. Actually that''s the way I want my mum to have her hair done.

Here in Bulgaria it's already 30 July, but the date on my previous post in still 29, so I'm not late.

28 years ago a young Lady bacame the third woman in The United Kingdom. Years later the 19 years old ex-kindergarten assistant became a fashion icon and a woman loved by millions of people all around the world. This young lady was our BELOVED Diana, Princess of Wales.
As you know Lady Diana wore The Spencer tiara, which through the years became one of her trend marks, and her mother's diamond earrings.

Yesterday (28) I was watching extracts from the wedding on YouTube. Probably some of you have watched it then in 1981, but I was born many years later, so that was the first time I was watching it.

Link to the video: Royal Wedding Of Charles & Diana

And a picture of the happy couple:

Today is the 28th anniversary of the most famous (and infamous) royal wedding of our time: the nuptials of HRH The Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and The Lady Diana Spencer at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. The two were wed on the morning of July 29, 1981.

Does anyone know or have pics of the Spanish royal jewels?
I beleive that a lot of them HM Queen Sofia has brought along with her from Greece when she married HM King Juan Carlos???

Here is the groom''s granmmother - HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother in Westminster abbey - wearing her diamond drop earrings and the waterfall brooch and a three row (anyone surprised?). As far as I know the brooch was originaly Queen Victoria''s and was worn many times by QEQM pinned on her bodice and IMO it lookes much better worn as like that (bodice).

Hi, Estelaris! Are you searching pictures of a certain jewel or the collection in general?

I''d start with the tiaras: The big tiaras were originally Queen Ena''s. The ones that are still in the family are: Fleur-de-lis, a Pearl & diamond and a Scroll. The ones that came with Queen Sofia are: The Hanoverian greek key, a pearl and dianond shel shaped one and a flower thiara. One of the last two was Gen. Franko''s wedding present to the new Spanish princess. Parts of a large ruby and diamond necklace also can be worn as a tiara.

Here is a picture of the Fleur-de-lis (sumbol of the Burbons) and VE:

This is the Scroll tiara also from Victoria Eugenia. The original owner had the pearls replaced by emeralds so that they mached her emerald jewellery. This picture was taken in 2004 during the wedding of HRH The Crown Prince of Denmark and Miss Mary Donaldson. The diamon earrings are also from VE's collection.
BTW I don't know if this tiara has a name. I call it "The Scroll Tiara", because of the shape of the panels.

sofia_wedd_tiara.JPG

Here is the loop tiara. It remindes me of a tiara that Britain''s Queen Mary wore when she became Princess of Wales, but this one has pearls and the loops aren''s empty.
Also presented are long sappfire and diamond earrings, a modern diamond necklace and a F-de-L brooch from Queen VE. I don''t know why, but the necklace and earrings IMO are gifst from state vists, rather than objects that The King had given her.

The pearl and diamond shell tiara:

This flower tiara was Gen Franko's weddig gift to Princess Sofia. One of the Infantas wore it on fer wedding. The emerald an diamond set is sometimes loaned to The Princess of Asturias.
ETA - The tiara is also worn by Letisia.

This is The Hanoverian tiara. The first persone that I''ve seen wearing it is Princess Victoria Louise of Hanover, Duchess of Brunswick. She gave it to her daughter Frederica. In 1962 the tiara was given to Princess Sofia, in 2004 Leti wore it on her wedding and now it''s her tiara. So it''s sth like a wedding tiara for the Greek/Spanish royal family.

Infanta Elena wearing diamond jewels. I know nothing about them, but they''re very beautiful.

Stavros Niarchos'' wedding present - a ruby and diamond set. This is a really versatile necklace. It can be worn in many ways: very long necklace(pic), a choker and tiara. A pair of earrings and bracelet(s) are also part of the set.

I''ve posted this one before: The choker and another version of the tiara for the French President''s this year visit:

Ring and bracelets:

This is thelast one.
The dimond collet necklace and the pearl and dianond brooch were presents from Alfonso XIII of Spain tp his wife Victoria Eugenia von Battenberg. The long and really impressive necklace was worn in Denmark for the 2004 wedding. The pentant pearl is sometimes worn suspended from a long necklace of large pearls.

I hope these pictures and information helped you, Estelaris. I hope other members/posters will post their pictures and info.

Good night,
Bobby

Thanks for all of the wonderful pictures, Bobby!

The waterfall brooch that QEQM is wearing is certainly a favorite of hers, and has absolutely been around since Queen Victoria''s time. I can''t recall any photos or paintings of her wearing it, but Queen Alexandra wore it often after her investiture. I hope we''ll see QE2 in it soon :)

Here is the loop tiara. It remindes me of a tiara that Britain''s Queen Mary wore when she became Princess of Wales, but this one has pearls and the loops aren''s empty.

Behold, the loop tiara!

Here''s a picture of a young Queen Mary (who may have still been Princess of Wales at this point) wearing the loop tiara. Note the fringed necklace she''s wearing--I believe that this is the Surrey tiara being worn as a necklace. It''s quite an impressive piece.

Queen Mary wearing the Surrey tiara. She''s in mourning and still looks quite young, so perhaps this is just after Queen Victoria''s death. She''s wearing the pearl dog collar which is now owned by the Duchess of Gloucester, and she''s wearing one of her famous stomachers. For those of you interested in royal orders, note the Prince Albert order pinned on the left side of the bodice.
