I seriously doubt that the Obamas will be at the wedding based on this information. It wouldn't make sense to have them return to England so soon after the wedding if they were invited.

And there's no point to them being there anyway...this is not a state occasion (unlike Nancy Reagan going to Charles and Diana's wedding in 1981) and William and Catherine are determined to have the people they know and care about at their wedding. They're not going to invite someone just because he happens to be a leader of a country.

Kind of reminds me when I got married...my mom wanted to invite the entire extended family. I'm not talking just my cousins, I'm talking her sister's cousin thrice removed from her grandmother's side of the family. These were people that I had met maybe once or twice in my entire life. It was more important to have the people from the museum where my husband I worked at together and where me met than these super distance relatives. That was the one blow-out my mom and I had planning the wedding.

I won, BTW. :naughty:

OMG Princepessa, those Würtemberg jewels are DEEEEEE=VINE!!!!

Someone give me more on this family....I think it is one of the many German princely families, right? Kind of like Prince Gusatav of SWB? Or Prince Ernst of Hanover?

LadyMaria! Soooo happy to hit the spot!!! I think and hope( LOL) Bobby will beat me to it, but if not, I'll tell you more about the Würtenberg kings during this weekend. Just briefly;Germany used to be a composite of kingdoms in the past centuries.
This royal house is now connected with half of royal , ex-royal and princely houses of Europe.have to run now!!!
here few more, hope that someone has a better view of the diamond coronet. :-)

Oh my, Principessa, the 2nd photo -- that's a real tower on her head! I could use a few of the necklaces Saturday night, would go very well with my jeans & turtleneck. Heck, I'd wear them with my pajamas if necessary!

I think it a splendid idea Laurie!LOL
here, few pictures of the folk head dresses, to illustrate, that there is no sense of "small" anywhere in Würtenberg ,
and I think this is always an inspiration for the local jewelry makers...

I'm aftreaid I don't know much about the Wurtemberg jewels, but I have always been fascinated by their collection. It's kind of very nice to see that a former royal house has three full parures (rubies, emeralds and sapphires) in addition to no less than three large diamond tiaras and contemporary jewels. And when you think about the Belgian ladie with seven tiaras in total... Almost unbelievable! But of course the family von Württemberg is filthy rich.
And here I should mention that our favourite Queen Mary (GB) is a descendant of the Württembergs, as is the Orleanist heir to the French throne.

But lets go back to the diamond diademe - apparently it's a very old one, having been worn by Queen Pauline it's almost 300 years old! After that, I have a photo of Queen Charlotte with it. Now the diademe is in the musem in Württemberg, along with the crown. And I have often wondered who owns them? The state of Baden-Württemberg or the family? Anybody knows?

And here you can see a close-up of the crown - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c9/Württembergische_Königskrone-MFr-3.jpg - I wonder if the largest stones have ever been weighted?

I don't know if the US president wil attend the wedding. The information about the state visit came out to-day and it's again time for a royal glittering event (dinner) at BP.
I wrote this without eye on the wedding.

I just cheked - Apparently the diamond diademe and the crown were part of the jewels the State of Wurtemberg got after the end of the monarchy. The other part of the Crown Jewels went to the family. Some of the large diamonds in the diaideme came from the crown (perhaps that's why it's considered a crown jewel?). The diademe, by the way, was indeed made for Queen Pauline in 1820.

The ruby parure, a photo of which Principessa posted, belonged to Archduchess Maria Immakulata, who married Duke Robert and didn't have children. She gave the parure as a wedding present to the current Duchess in 1960.
Here Diane d'Orleans is wearing the tiara upside-down (she's seated on the far right):

The previous Duchess and mother of the present Duke, Archduchess Rosa, wore the emeralds at the pre-wedding bal for Prince Juan Carlos and Princess Sophia in 1962. Not the best photo, I know:

The family olso owns a small diamond tiara that IMO can be worn as a necklace. The tiara belonged to Queen Charlotte and was worn by Duchess Mathilde on her wedding day:

Thank you Bobby, of course I meant diademe, not coronet! (my apology and a lesson learned, never to write while running out of the house :-)
I assume that all of the jewels exhibited in Stuttgart are in the State possession. I do not recall any notes saying "on loan from .."etc.
I'll look closer next time.

Oh Bobby, how great!!!! this is all very interesting,to see them all together here... and the wedding picture is just breathtaking!!!!!!!
Thanks!!!

You're welcome, Princepissa, but ther's nothing you should appologise for, IMO!
Yes, the jewels in Stuttgart are state property as I wrote above ;) But have you seen them in person? Lucky you! The huge Rococo tiara is also there, isn't it?
And what about the ruby and star tiara? Is it still in the family? Or in the musem? Or sold? Anyone?
BTW, there's a portrait of Queen Sophie of the Netherlands wearing the stars as a small tiara.

would be very curious to know which of the wertemburg (sp) jewels are still in the family's possession and would love to see more photos of their jewels.

Thank you for the great photos, Principessa & Bobby. I love the small Wurttenburg tiara -- and the wedding photo is absolutely marvelously beautiful! (Perhaps Kate Middleton can borrow the veil & tiara??? :praise: )

You have probably seen today that Obama & the Mrs. are not invited to the wedding of W & K. There are a few heads of state coming but only those the couple (or William) knows well.

Well..thank you Bobby..that must be though my old "kinderstube" LOL

Yes, I've seen them all "in person". Do not know anything about the gorgeous ruby tiara.
I found another small picture of the diadem...and just for fun I enclose yet another German royal"schmuck"..
I always love floral tiaras the best.:-)
Enjoy!

Found this website some interesting info on diane, duchess of wurttemberg and some other unknown tiaras. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me can shed some light on them. Some of the tiaras we have already discussed. Thanks

Two of the tiaras are wrongly abeled as Wurttemberf as they belong to other houses.
The lady in blue dress in the 6th post is Duchess Marie Caroline in Bayern, the wife of HRH Duke Philip von Wurttemberg. The tiara she's wearing is a Bavarian hairloom.
The other tiara (with the green stones) was worn by María del Carmen Martínez-Bordiú y Franco at her wedding to the late Duke of Anjou and Cádiz, grandson of Alfonso XIII and Victoria Eugenia of Spain. He was thus a first cousin to Don Juan Carlos.

Bobby

thanks Bobby knew you could provide some insight.

Here I found a version of Mellerio tiara with what stones? Some very dark emeralds or onyx?
Would anybody have a further information, please?

I have never noticed the diamond briolette attached under this gorgeous tiara.Spanish ladies always wear it without it, IMO..am I wrong?
Thank you for any other information.

Thank you," alexander1917".I wondered if there ever were any other recorded versions, although I read that HM favored pearls.

Here is HM queen Victoria of Spain in younger years, wearing the emerald necklace and, besides the gorgeous mantilla, some impressive diamonds!

From Spain to the Neatherlands. I wish we could see this diamond tiara more often, but notice at the group photo (from HMQ Margarite of Denmark wedding) the hight of it!..and the sparks of the diamonds on HMQ Juliana's head (she looks lovely in pale blue)! I wonder what the weight must be?

These are emeralds for sure, Principessa. Queen Ena's Cartier tiara could be worn with cabochon emeralds instead of the original pearls. These, along with some of HM's other emeralds, were sold in order to help pay for Don Juan Carlos and Princess Sofia's wedding in 1962. Queen Victoria Eugenie's necklace, brooch and ring were created by Cartier using stones her godmother Empress Eugenie had bequeathed her.
The stones were eventually set in a necklace which Emress Farah frequently wore.

I beleieve I've only seen La Chata wearing the tiara with the briolette diamond. So, yes, the current members of the Spanish royal family wear it without the diamond briolette. And I wonder why... as obviously they still have the stone.

As far as I know, a mantilla is the large comb made of tortoise shell that is used to wear a veil. Apparenly, in that photo Queen Ena is wearinf only a gorgeous lace veil and the beautiful Fleur-de-lis tiara by Ansorena.

Bobby,
sorry, but I must object. Mantilla truly is the veil, lace or other. that is worn over the head and/or shoulders and is held in place by a hair comb.It is sometimes written in a confusing way under pictures. This I know for certain,I got few gorgeous lace mantillas from my family.

I love HM studio portrait. It has a great atmosphere...makes me wonder if her dress was also deep emerald green ..
I think Princess Letizia would look great in this parure.Helas!

I need something to cheer us up..here is another tiara with a poire cut diamond that I love. It is some 9,61 carats.
This is one of the diadems of Princess Marie (P.George of Greece) made by Cartier.
