Royal Jewels

They say the Queen is looking frail- but hello she is 96 !
I hope what ever the stiffness is she is feeling loosens up soon for her and she can put the spring back in her step
i saw her on tv tonight
Those pearls- the luster
I could almost see my reflection in them from here !
If i were her, I'd just stay in bed till her 2nd son disrepairs from the papers
Im.sorry i didnt want him included in my picture - please ignore him

I beleave these men in uniform are the incoming and outgoing defence secretaries - the link between HM and her beloved armed forces

Whoa....let's talk about the jewels!!!!

Is that an aquamarine tiara she is wearing? I'm not familiar with that one. Is she wearing it as a necklace in the third picture?

Not meaning to be disrespectful towards the Kents ....
But how much of it had to be sold :(2

Does HM Queen Margrethe have a brooch hidden by that scarf
Both those coats on the younger ladies are crying out for brooches :(2

I guess they are not as good as the Gloucesters in holding on to their family jewels.

DK :confused2:

I guess they started off on the back foot with Princess Marina being a war widow :(2

Still Marina should have left a tiara to her only daughter

In those days (my mum is only 3 years younger than Princess Alexandra), it was the expectation for the husband to provide for his wife, etc. etc...

Apart from the pearl necklace and the diamond brooch?
They sold the sapphire tiara in the last 1980's/early 1991's (it was converted to necklace), then they gradually sod off the rest of the parure or at lest the bulk of the sapphire clusters. Even the bracelets/choker went...

The aquamarine tiara was presumably a loan for 1-2 occasions. I don't know the specifics, but it also was sold by whoever sold it. It used to be an ever larger (and much nicer) piece with enamel panels in between the flowers.

Despite the jewels sales, the Kents still have some nice pieces and at least one tiara. For someone who doesn't attend white-tie events, the Duchess has more than enough ;)

She is indeed! I was introduced to her many years ago, and I dare say that age has caused her to shrink further.

Oh, so nice to have met her! Now, tell us what brooch she was wearing :D

Yes, and poor Marina was the first to sell some of her jewels. She was photographed in a lot of contemporary pieces after her wedding to the Duke, but these disappeared after the war. For example, Marina had a ruby sautoir and a diamond sautoir in the Art Deco design, but do you remember seeing the current Kents in them? You can see them on this LINK

On your second point - she did give Alexandra the diamond and pearl flowers that are the base of her tiara ;)

It's my understanding that Alexandra was also left the pearl and diamond bandeau, which also hit the auction block at some point.

Speaking of Princess Marina I was reminded of her ''gone'' jewels and in particular this pair of trendy diamond swirls. They remind me of the work by Belperron and Boivin.

And yet his mum gave her new daughter-in-law a lovely tiara and sacrificed another for that yummy bracelet and ring ;-)
That's two tiaras more than what my family has ever owned :D

Very true, and the Greek-style tiara is staying in the family, now with the Princess Royal, and hopefully pass down to the next generation like Zara.

I wonder who would inherit HM's bracelet and engagement ring when she eventually leaves this earth. :confused2:
