Royal Jewels

The promised additional pictures from the first day of the Dutch-Swedish State Visit!

First, the arrivals:

Queen Maxima in her long morganite earrings with matching ring and assorted bracelets on both wrists. Note that the gold bracelet has the portraits of her daughters <3

Queen Silvia went retro with a statement gold necklace, tourmaline earrings and a pair of colourful butterflies on her jacket.

And a picture of the royal receiving line in the palace. Estelle was also present, as the Dutch King is her godfather.

The Banquet was GLITTERING! As I said earlier, it was a battle of the diamond whoopers for Queens Silvia and Maxima, but the other ladies didn't disappoint either!

Queen Silvia wore some of her most important jewels to honour her guests - the Brazilian tiara and brooch, the Baden riviere and the Karl Johan earrings:

Queen Maxima returned the favour with the mighty tiara from the House diamond set and matching earrings. It's yet another (forth) setting of the tiara we see on Maxima with a one of the large rose-cut clusters at the top of the tiara instead of the Stuart diamond.

Maxima being true to herself didn't stop there and piled on heirlooms. She wore the large devant-de-corsage with the pink diamonds and 3 large pearl drops.

...and an interesting bracelet on her right wrist:

Three Princesses also attended the banquet last night wearing old and new family jewels.

The Crown Princess wore pieces from the parure last night at the State Banquet for her dear friend Alex, aka King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands. She notably wore the parure the evening before his inauguration in 2013.

Princess Sofia wore her wedding tiara with the emerald toppers and one of the Bernadotte bow brooches:

Bonus back view of the tiara:

The lovely surprise of the evening was Princess Christina, who wore the Connaught tiara paired with a floral brooch and pendant earrings. The Princess has been loaned the tiara (it belongs to the King) on various occasions, most notably her wedding in 1972.

The versatility of swapping out this gem with that gem in the royal jewels is fascinating to me. I would love to see how the actual mechanism works.

Me too! If you even do come across a versatile tiara, please let me tag along. We'll have a play date with the tiny screwdriver and various fittings!

Those tiara’s :kiss2: Just Wow!

Don't you just wish the Brits will bring theirs out more often! Hey ho!

DK :))

Just wait until 22nd November when the Brits will host the South African president. We're bound to see some good old diamonds then :)

meanwhile in Africa
Sophie reads the condolence book for the late Queen at the British high commission in Ethiopia
1665643867623.png
i only go to these gutter publications out of desperation but thinking about what @dk168 (and myself) want to see more tiaras, but a certain side of the British public are always complaining and highly critical (of any one with money, especially inherited money)
this article had someone moaning in the comments about Sophie's jewlery being too exspensive to visit less well off nations
where as i feel we need opera glasses to see it
it must be a very tricky road for royal ladies to have to travel on

ps
does anyone know what Sophie was doing in Ethiopia ?
other than wearing clothes and shoes :angryfire:
the gutter (and not always just the gutter) press do worthy causes a great disservice by only focusing on clothes and shoes and scandle / made up drama

Dutch-Swedish State Visit, day 2 (which was yesterday)

The two royal couples visited Karolingische Science Park. Visits like this are always fun during State Visits, because they provide us with a quirky mix of formal clothes, jewels and safety gear.

Take Queen Silvia, for example, who switched the Braganza tiara with a helmet and visor, but kept on her lovely pearls.

And also our friend Maxima, who debuted a new pair of sapphire pendent earrings:

In the evening, the Dutch guests hosted a concert for their Swedish hosts. I'm now sure that the families had a prior discussion about their jewels, because both Queens wore emeralds...

Queen Silvia also wore the diamond lozenge brooch:

Victoria opted for a classic combo - pearl drops and a diamond riviere. Her choice of jewels was another compliment for their hosts, as queen Maxima also wore a diamond necklace with the large emerald drop.

You can see how well they get on well with one another here. Can you imagine the Brits doing this? :P2

Bonus: Alex wore a grey pearl and diamond dress suit <3

That can't be serious... Queen Adelaide's crown was rejected for being in a poor condition and out of fashion as early as 1901 - 70 years after it was made. Can't imagine it's now back in fashion 190 years later. In addition, it's set with paste, so they'll have to find new precious stones and pearls to fill in the setting.
If the K-i-N is seen as too controversial, they can always use the Cullinan V brooch in either Queen Mary or Queen Elizabeth's crowns. But the truth is that the Indian govt doesn't see it as an issue. They acknowledge that the stone was legally purchased and then presented to Queen Victoria/the British nation. End of story. The sooner someone with more authority than me steps out and declares it in public, the better.

If it was to be returned, Great Britain (not the King, he doesn't own it) will have to return it to the descendants of Ranjit Singh, who will then dispose of the stone as they see fit. And that doesn't necessarily mean putting it in a museum.

i hope you are right
i think the issue of giving back that diamond would be a big can of worms because the gutter left wing anti monarchy press wont let it go

i do like the Telegraph, i trust them to have more realiable sources

but i kind of also love the idea of refurbishing Queen Adelaide's crown
surly they have a selection of unset gems they could use ?

the tiny Lapis pendent actually looks quite nice when viewed in context with the nature of the royal visit
