You're? That's too bad.

I do enjoy it but it's just not quite my own style lol-- I was thinking of a design that would evoke ribbons/bows lol
I love the 1.7 carats ring. I've had my eye on it for a while though I'd never be able to afford it. Just love that cluster design.

Ohhhh the Berganza one?
It does look promising. I think the cut has a window, but you just can't tell in the sun because that's the perfect amount of silk.
Yay thank you! It has a certificate from The Gem & Pearl Laboratory; picture is below, Should I get it recerted with AGL/GIA/GRS just in case?

(also I misread the weight before, it's 1.6 not 1.2 ct)

Ohhh I see I see! Ngl I'm still a bit tempted by that one even though a large chunk of that price is probably the diamonds lol. But I like this one two! The setting isn't quite to my taste, but the ruby looks promising so far.

@voce what other kinds of pictures should I request from the vendor on top of the video they sent?

Whatever other pictures they provide, post them here because I'm hoarding them for the day I have the budget to go to my jeweler, show them to him, video included, and tell him I want him to find me a stone that glows like that.

Yes I'm sure the setting and the antique aspect is a big part of the price, but I just love the setting and the finger coverage it gives.

Here's another one in a similar setting with similar specs and half the price, though it's not clear if the ruby is heated:

But if the style is not to your taste...

Yaaay! Also it looks like a proper pigeon's blood?

I gave up trying to define pigeon’s blood, I suggest you do too unless you want to give yourself headache ;)

That ruby is amazing, top color and typical Burmese fluorescence.

I only buy red stones (ok, one Colombian emerald) and am obsessed with fine vivid red rubies. The one in this video is something I would seriously consider purchasing (I won’t, no worries, you’ve got dibs). How much are they asking?

Here is a photomicrograph taken by Billie Hughes at Lotus gemology. They gave it the Pigeon’s Blood label and in AGL terms it is a 30/80 (70% red, 80 tone). That’s what Pigeon’s blood means to me: vivid red with some purple

Ohhh thank you so much for providing the picture! Have asked the vendor about customs/shipping; fingers crossed everything will go smoothly! The cost is ok to me, it's under USD20K which is-- not cheap, but it seems ok to me?

I can't think of better reassurance than approval from VividRed's expert eye! OP, I hope you get it and share tons of pictures/video :-)

So that’s about 4k for the setting I guess, and 16k for the ruby, i.e. about 10k per carat. That’s not the price of top end color (more like 25k per carat) so I assume it will have some inclusions and be little more pink than trade ideal. But honestly, that video with the glow in sunlight is unreal so who cares, that’s all the ruby magic you need, and the tone is perfect.

Of course you would need to see it in person, so make sure you can return it hassle-free if you are not fully satisfied!

What you may want to do is have a full grading report from AGL prior to purchasing it. I recon this will be 3-3.5 color rating (65% red) with 75-80 tone. If Burma, it will probably get the “classic” add-on, which means it’s the high quality material from Mogok.

Depending on clarity (I expect moderately included given the silk), it would get “very good” or “excellent to very good” total quality rating, more or less the best you can expect to find before entering the realm of absurdity in terms of price. For reference, the very finest Burmese rubies with the absolute highest color rating from AGL (2-2.5/75) and lightly included will start at 25k/carat in the 1-2 carat range and skyrocket above 2ct (50k per carat and the sky is the limit).

All things considered, and given your budget, this ruby ring might be an excellent deal.

Keep us posted!!

I'd want to see it in artificial light and full sun. I'd also try to get a second lab report from a more known lab, as it's possible that ruby has been heated. Somebody not very experienced might declare a ruby with silk to be unheated, but heated rubies can look like that also. If heated, you're not getting such a good deal on the price, so I'd want to be very sure on the unheated status, especially if I'm planning to spend extra to reset it...

Oh wow, thank you so much for your analysis of the ruby and how it will be "scored"! Just to check, if it's an antique ring, would that affect pricing?

This is my 1ct ruby from Mong Hsu, it lights up in sunlight but I think the one you posted might look even better!

Yes, if I get it, will definitely get a report from AGL as well-- will probably go for the full prestige report to also get origin testing :D

You might want to negotiate a return policy just in case. I don't think AGL would be able to determine the origin without first having the ruby unmounted from the setting. Unmounting the gem usually makes vendors unwilling to honor a return.

AGL has options for grading mounted gems, they just charge more for the report. https://www.aglgemlab.com/pricelist

After reading some specific replies here - I hope you have already asked the vendor put the ring on hold. It doesn’t show that way on their site.
Lurkers will lurk when they see something stated is a good deal/a exciting specimen find.

I've requested to have the ring put on hold; thank you for the heads up!

Quick update, the seller has said he'll check with AGL for me! Fingers crossed he can help me get it recerted with AGL first before I definitively buy.

I don’t have anything to add about rubies, but just a user request??! Can we please please please have a thread just on your emerald ring with a bazillion photos!!!

Sorry to get off the subject!

LOL should I post more pics in my emerald thread?

So a quick update on the ruby!!

The seller is willing to move forward with certification if I purchase the ring in full up-front and then have it certed; if the AGL cert comes back as either/or NOT Burmese or unheated, I can return it regardless of the time frame.

That being said.....is there anything I should do to double ensure that I can return if AGL's cert comes back as different from the vendor's cert? Also, should I still request additional pictures/videos? If so, in what kinds of lighting?

Because I might have to get it certed by AGL myself, I requested additonal videos in indoor dim + natural along with outdoor shaded and natural lighting:

@VividRed curious what you think abt these additional vid

Big red flag here. Why do you have to get it AGL certifier yourself? My advice: Have the sale conditional on the results of the AGL results and offer to pay for the report price and shipping fees. Too much money at stake here…

I personally like it a lot, but would only spend 20k on the basis of an AGL grading report that I am happy with :)
