Settings for Octagon shaped stones please post photos and vendors

Another double claw prong. This is @Allison D's Mom's Amethyst.
I am so envious of the beautiful color! I haven't found a link to this beauty.

I wonder if Van Craeynest is still in production. I stopped following them years ago. It will be a shame if they are no more.

@Siameseroo has this STUNNING octagon ring. Her finger is smaller than mine and her stone larger so a simple double prong setting would give me a similar look.

I have been looking at similar settings. I love this one from David Klass.

@Acinom How in the world do you decide if an octagon needs diamonds on the shank? Do you decide based on your ring collection as a whole or go stone by stone?

ED0A1BA8-253F-4011-8131-59D2696BBCC0.jpeg My husband likes to 3D print my setting and we just twist the diamond into place. Here’s the latest iteration with double claws. It’s rhodium coated brass. I’ll probably try one soon with the claws spread further apart. Each print job costs $12 so why not? (Well there is the whole losing the diamond risk, but why else not?)

Oh my, I am so jealous! I would love to 3D-print my own settings! Those prongs look amazing. Does he print it with the notches or do you notch them yourselves after?

This is interesting! It makes the setting choice less of an issue, since you'll be changing it out regularly.

Update: I plan to do double prongs on my Octagon stone. I will either have it set locally by a jeweler in a Stuller setting OR send it cross country for a custom setting. Because the stone is 7.28 mm I don't feel the need to increase it's size by putting it in a bezel or halo setting. Other than double prongs I don't really have any design ideas. What do you all think?

My local jeweler is familiar with setting garnets and can set it into a Stuller setting for a reasonable cost. Here are the two Stuller settings I am considering.

Stuller 71734 Double prongs plain shank

Stuller 71734 for umbilte.jpg

Stuller 71953 Double prongs and diamond accents on the shank.

There’s no notches at all!! The basket is just the right size to hold the diamond.

I’m not sure if this is an octo, but it showed up on BC’s IG yesterday and I just love it

Both settings look perfect @Stone Hunter

Depends on whether you want the razzle and dazzle of a few small diamonds. I love diamonds so add them whenever I can!

Hehe to me it's like frosting on cake. I always want frosting if it's a tasty one (i.e. decent diamonds that don't look like spit)

Thanks. I feel like I want to “step up” with my settings but I have no design ideas. Except really liking double prongs. Maybe these diamonds will give me some “dazzle dazzle.”

What do you mean by step up? Like more frufru? :D

Are your settings relatively simple normally? Do you want to go nuts? Our just fuss it up a little bit?

I am not sure of what I want and that’s a problem. I am not a “frufru” person. I am very casual but I don’t want to skimp on this and future settings. The cutting and shape of this stone is really the attention grabber and I don’t want to take away from that.
