Settings for Octagon shaped stones please post photos and vendors

I've been thinking more about this stone lately. The Stuller settings I was considering just don't have enough of what I'm looking for. So far I know that I want to do double claw prongs. This photo (I cropped) of @Acinom 's Tourm shows off beautiful prongs.

Then for the shank of the ring I'd like an Art Deco vibe. This photo is of the shank of a ring from the 1930s. I want to do it with 3 stones on each side instead of the 4.

I know that I want the stone set as low as possible. Now I just have to figure out how the basket should look. :roll The ever important profile of the ring that I will see as I wear it. Any ideas? I will ask my jeweler for advise but I was hopping to show them a photo to explain my desire for a low set basket.

I found this side view of @diamondseeker2006 's Asscher. The bar of the basket seems to have milgrain on it. That could be cool. But of course I'm not doing side stones and would like it set lower than this, if possible.

Hi! I love the shape of your stone! Just wanted to say that my stone above is set very low. Your stone has a total depth of just about 5mm and mine is almost 5.5mm in total depth, so we are only a halfmm difference. Here's a side view of the CAD to show you how low it really is.

In my search I found that @Acinom has a basket bar with engraving. That looks cool too. Of course it matches the engraving on the bottom of her ring so it looks cohesive.

Of all the rings posted, by far my favorite is Acinom's aqua ring by DK, which could be adapted to your octagonal shape. My second choice is a more simple one by DK. I think the slight bezel really defines the shape of the stone.

Thanks I'm glad you don't mind me stalking your ring! I like the simple clean lines of your setting. I don't see myself going with all of that engraving that Acinom has. Hmm, this will require more thought!

I really am into the side stone/milgrain shank that I posted. And I want the shank to be NARROW up near the stone rather than as wide as the stone. Around 2-3 mm at that point. Cause I need room for the milgrain.

I have seen a HEXAGON bezel in person at my jewelers and did consider it. It's a stunning setting. I will look at it again next week. I was worried a bezel would block too much light.

Thanks @diamondseeker2006 I had forgotten that this was done by DK. It looks too steep for me, yeah I am looking at a magnified photo. I am also trying to go with a local jeweler since I am so so far away from DK. I have seen something in their case that has a similar bezel and I've seen their work with gemstones and antique rings. I am hoping that I have discovered a Quest or Greenlake or DK level jeweler close to home.

That setting is sized to the stone set in it, unlike stock Stuller settings. That looks like a deep stone so there's no choice to have it any other height. It looks as low as it possibly can be. The height of yours will be determined by the depth of the stone. That would be shown in the CADs.

I personally would always go with a sure thing. There is no local jeweler that I would trust to make a setting like that. If you know your local jeweler has made that style setting and you have seen the quality of workmanship, then you are very fortunate. But I'd really recommend going for the sure thing if you choose a style that DK has made. It is no big deal sending a stone to him. Hundreds of people here have done it many times! Acinom is in another country and has had multiple rings made in the US!

I appreciate your input. The CADs and magnified rings look larger than I know they will be in person. Still it throws me off a bit. Missing that the depth of that Amethyst makes the setting deep is proof. LOL Moving from Stuller settings to CADs and waxes is a big step. I'm excited and nervous.

Yes IF I decide to go with a style DK has made I will go with DK. He does seem to have made a variety of settings. So far I am going with the 8 prongs and the 1930s milgrain sides. Both I have seen on settings from the 1930s. Today I'll check out a bunch of baskets. If I find any possibilities I'll post them here.

I've looked at so many baskets today. My eyes are about to cross. I have yet to see a setting that I want to copy so custom is probably in my future. These two have a bit of the Art Deco vibe I think I'm going for. Remember the 1930s shank detail is a definite for me. I don't want diamonds on the basket even though the first photo shows this.

Not a great photo, what I see that I like is the detail on the bottom basket bar. ETA: I think it's just a double row of milgrain.

Another basket that's close to what I'd like. I want the vertical parts of the basket plain and smooth and split at the top, but I really like the detail in both the top and bottom bar. The bubbles in the top bar look very much like a detail I have in a simple band I like.

I kept editing this post to crop the two photos so they showed the details better.

Thanks for all of your input! I have made the final decisions on my setting and have approved the CADs and am now waiting for the setting to be cast. My CAD thread;

I am still finding very nice Octagon stone settings on PS and will continue to share those to this thread. Hopefully this thread will help future PSers with octagon shaped stones make setting decisions!

Here's a stunning setting that I missed in my earlier searches. It's owned by @Gemajames and has a vintage vibe. I really LOVE the proportion of the side stones and details to the main stone.

I actually love bezels for showing off unique shapes of stones if you haven’t decided against bezels.

I've decided a setting for my Umbalite, but I want to keep this thread going for anyone that has an octagon stone and is looking for setting ideas. :D

Time to update this thread and add some of the newer octagon stones that PSers have set. Starting with my stone that inspired this thread. This is an Umbalite Garnet cut by Jeff Davies. It's a 2.08 ct and 7.28 mm x 4.79 mm and set in 14 K yellow gold. I decided on smooth double claw prongs and lots of vintage details. I added three diamonds on each side and there is a very subtle knife edge to the shank. All the details are here

@Elysian has a second emerald cut with a prong setting! Love all the different ways an octagon can be set!
