Show me your September sapphires!

I love all the sapphires! Thanks for posting.

I had this ring made for my sister using an unheated lavender sapphire from our own katharath; she has a pink sapphire listed for a steal now and boy would I love to be a repeat customer, she was amazing to buy from and I was so pleased with this gem; I found it pretty in all lights.

I took lots of photos before I gave it to my sister, lol. She was thrilled, yay!!!

Oh wow, the lavender sapphire has some tints of mauve and blue too. It's so so gorgeous! Wonderful gift! And you are an awesome sister, Apacherose!

Wow NonieMarie, the sapphires look like mini swimming pools :) Thanks for the share. I love it!

My padparadscha sapphire ring. All of the pictures of the sapphire rings are gorgeous.

It's perfect in that box!

Junebug, may I just say that I absolutely ADORE your Diana ring. The proportions are just perfect and it looks really big without looking obnoxious. (It's my opinion that Diana/Kate's ring is just too big.) Your ring looks so much bigger than its stats, which I looked up in your original post. But I guess that's the power of the halo. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I think yours is the best Diana-style ring I've ever seen, and even nicer than Diana's actual ring. I think the proportions are better on yours - a better balance of diamond to sapphire, and I think the color is nicer. It's a true dream ring. Do you wear it much?

Apacherose, the lavender sapphire in the halo with the gorgeous gold is so beautiful! Deep lavender is one of my favorite colors. Is the sapphire 6mm? Also, who made the setting?

Thank you for the compliments! I'm so flattered- this thread has some fall down and go to heaven sapphire rings.

Jambalaya- 6mm round in semi-mount from mydiamondzone- or ivyandrose? on etsy- a pretty humble ring for pricescope... but whatever- it was a pleasure for me to put together and something I would wear the heck out of were it mine. Give Katharath credit for having such a fine eye for selecting a lovely gem- she is really discerning, I think.

Niel- thanks so much! I was way too excited to have that box to present it in- it is that disease, lol.

Do you think Art Nouveau would mind if I shared one of her rings on this thread? I hope not... here is a lovely September sapphire, Art Nouveau's 4.55 carat unheated Burma stone:

And my pinks

marcy, marcy, marcy! Where did you get that beautiful basketweave band ring? I LOVE it!

Gemgirl, I got that ring at the Shane Company. It is rose gold and one of my favorite rings. It's a very wide and thick band.

Apacherose the sapphire you got for your sister is a fabulous and luscious color. The setting really shows it off. Very pretty.

I am loving all of your sapphires. Such wonderful colors and styles.

Emeraldcutlover, I practically shrieked with delight at the sight of your ring! Like Junebug's, I think it's nicer than Kate's. Where did you get it from? God, I'd love to have a great big blue sapphire like that. Do you wear it often? It's gorgeous! Stats, pretty please! :appl:

Apacherose, thanks for the details.

Update: I found your original thread about your ring, Emeraldcutlover, so I have the stats.

Violetphoenix, I love your ring and the ring you've paired it with! They look like vintage lace. And what a beautiful sapphire! Gorgeous color. Do you have stats? It looks large!

I agree that Junebug and Emeraldcutlover have nice sapphire's than Kate. The blues in those your rings are fabulous. They positively glow.

I keep looking through this thread to see everyone's pretty sapphires. More please. :wavey:

Love all the new additions! They are making me want to expand my collection.

LindaW - your padparadscha is BEAUTIFUL!

Love your ring EmeraldCutLover!

Thank you so much for the comments on my pad ring. I love it so much.

Jambalaya, thank you so much! It's funny, I never really cared for Diana's ring back in the 80's - for some reason it struck me as old fashioned or something. The ring came back to the public eye when Kate started wearing it, and I started thinking that it looked very classic and elegant, and she brought new life to it. Yes, I think the larger diamond melee give the ring a boost in size, and since I'm a diamond lover I really like the extra sparkle. If I'm being honest though, I do wish the sapphire was bigger, like Emeraldcutlover's. Sapphire Shrinkage Syndrome has set in haha! I'd be happier with just a bit more finger coverage. I wear it often - I wear it as an alternate ering, and I always pop it on when I'm wearing blue lol.

Marcy, thank you for your nice comments too!

Junebug, I'm the same! I only started really liking that design when the ring came back into public view with Kate. I couldn't justify the cost of a large blue sapphire, not the kind I wanted anyway, so I bought a large London blue topaz, and also a pink sapphire ring surrounded by a substantial diamond halo. The sapphire is only 1.1 but the diamonds are 8 points each, so there's quite a bit of diamond relative to the sapphire's size. I posted it here - you might remember it. I'm planning to take some further photos for this thread soon. It's not so large but the halo really plumps it out, and it satisfies my Kate-induced sapphire/halo urges.

Your ring and emeraldcut lover's, and others I've seen here are much nicer than Kate's, I think. For me, Kate's sapphire is too dark. I also think that the proportions of the diamond halo relative to the sapphire size are off. I only realized that when I saw photos of your ring and emeraldcutlover's. Kate stone needed to be smaller or the diamonds larger, in my humble opinion. But if the diamonds were larger, the ring would be even more ridiculously large than it is already. I really think a slightly smaller sapphire and larger diamond would have looked better. I don't think it was Garrard's best piece. I'd also love to know if the sapphire had heat treatment. I imagine it did, since you mostly need specialist suppliers to source unheated stones.

What's interesting is that Kate's ring came from Garrard's standard stock - it wasn't made specially for Diana. That means that a handful of people out there, surely, must have exactly the same ring. I wish they'd come forward! I also read in one of my books that the Queen raised her eyebrows when Diana picked the biggest ring from the tray bought to the Palace. Who knows if that's true, because I also read that it wasn't the biggest and that Diana just chose it because she thought it was the most beautiful. However, it's hard to believe that there was a bigger one in the tray brought to her - it's not as if she was looking at the entire Garrard stock, and I'm not sure a finger could accommodate a bigger ring! I do think its size is somewhat obnoxious. Kate and Diana are/were both very tall, but a more petite woman with shorter fingers probably couldn't accommodate a ring like that.

The Diana ring does fascinate me.

Jambalaya, I just checked out the thread on your pink sapphire thread and oh wow, do I love that ring!!! Just gorgeous - do you find yourself wearing it often? Gah, I would love to own something like it!

Yes, I agree with you, a ring the size of Kates/Diana's really would look out of proportion on a smaller woman - I'm five feet two, and have short fingers, so really a larger ring would probably look out of proportion on me (so I tell myself lol). And yes, a larger sapphire would also mean a larger expense as well

I find the backstory of the ring really interesting too - IIRC I think it's been reset? Not sure, but I think I remember reading that somewhere.

Aww, thanks Junebug! It's much smaller than yours, though! One of the things I like about it is the combination of the yellow gold with the pink, which makes it nice and colorful. Also the halo isn't small. These things make up for the fact that the sapphire isn't large or blue, and also it was really the max I was comfortable spending.

I go through phases of being more "done" than others. I don't wear so much makeup or jewelry in the summer - it's too hot, and I get sunscreen caked into my pieces. So I haven't worn my sapphire for quite a few months, but I will start wearing it more now. Apart from in the summer, I probably wear it about once a week. I should wear it more. I'm glad you wear yours often - it's good to get your money's worth!

Yours is so much a nicer blue than the Diana ring. They say the Diana ring is a Ceylon sapphire, but I thought Ceylon stones were a lot lighter. About being reset, an eagle-eyed observer noted that when Diana had it, there were only four prongs around the stone, but now there are prongs all round. But it looks the same apart from that - same gallery. So I think the setting just had some work done, probably.

The other thing I don't really like with Kate's wedding set is that the metals don't match! The sapphire ring is 18k white gold, but her wedding ring is a deep yellow! Because obviously she had to accept the Diana ring, and then she had to have the wedding ring made from Welsh gold because all the royals do that, especially as she will be Princess of Wales. So she's ended up with a mismatched set! I don't think I'd like to be committed to such a large ring for an everyday item, and I really wouldn't like the metals of the two rings not to match. I wonder if she really likes her set, given that it was kinda foisted on her, or if she would have gotten a gorgeous diamond and platinum set if she'd had the choice.

Her off-duty clothes are quite cool and modern. I see her with an amazing step-cut center stone flanked by trilliants or trapezoids - very Harry Winston - and a plain platinum band. Stunning, modern, and chic.

Alamana, that's beautiful! What a stunning soft blue! :appl:

Diana's ring was reset with extra prongs early in her marriage, not for Kate. I read it was resized with bumps added inside to take it from a size I down to a size H for Kate before her wedding.

Yes, you're right Pyramid - I've subsequently seen photos of Diana's ring during her marriage with all the prongs. Possibly it had only the four at the point of engagement. I've got an enormous book about her - I'll have to check out the photos!

Everyone's jewelry is beautiful!!! Sapphire is my birthstone and I have always loved them. This is a big reason why I chose a yellow sapphire for my engagement ring as well. I usually just wear it with the thin gold band and the eternity band I wear on my right hand. I would love to get a sapphire/diamond tennis bracelet.
