Show us your Cabs!

Got those over many years from friends at or close where they got mined. Always when I found a nice one witch smiled at me I bought it.

My chrysoprase cab came!!! The color is just divine - it reinforced why I was hankering for a chrysoprase and so pleased I nabbed this - even my fiance said "I am really glad you got that!"

Awww another ragdoll!!!! Mine lays on his back all the time

Well, Jazzy is supposed to be a Balinese, but his lineage is a little dubious. My husbands pet allergies are fine with Jazzy though. He acts like a lovey dovey ragdoll. I suspect he is not full breed.

Hubby and I were admiring your baby earlier as he was dutifully PS'ing over my shoulder as I was "oooooh and ahhh" again. Is it a she?

I'm so sorry for the threadjack too, @Arcadian! I promise to buy a cab and post it later in atonement. But look at those faces! @moneymeister, @annagene12, those cats are NOT real. No way. Jazzy has the squishiest looking paws. Noodles is the cutest name ever for a cat and I can't even. I just died.

y'all know i don't care , right? :kiss2::lol:

of course atonement should be a cats eye cab of some type...you know, to make up for all the dirt in my thread :bigsmile:

I do want a cat's eye chrysoberl or a cat's eye moonstone. It's like you read my mind. Cat everything!

I adore cabochons. Sometimes I think I like them more than faceted gems (but, then, sometimes I think the reverse). They can really glow, and I think they are more wearable, overall.

Gorgeous. Really fabulous. I think one day I'd like to save up for a nice ruby or red spinel, and the more I think about it, the more I think I would want it to be a cabochon. Yours is an excellent example of why.

I met a woman last year who was wearing a cabochon ruby ring, and the stone was just mesmerizing. The cabochon cut can be so flattering for rubies.

You made me laugh at loud.
Then I started to think, do I have cabs? Hey, I have cabs!

The bracelet belonged to my grandmother, onyx and sterling, from the 1950's.
The huge turquoise ring is vintage WB. The Turquoise pendant is from Heather DiLello from starvingartistdsgns on Etsy, turquoise cab by Stephanie Waller. The cab looks translucent in the photo, but it's an optical illusion. I fell in love when I saw it.

The turquoise earrings are from Peabody Essex Museum. The gold ring has a small natural ruby cab. The jade ring is nephrite from JadeMineCanada.

Thanks! Fine star ruby cabs can be very impressive and have their very own magic. Different and not comparable with facet gems. The most beautiful one I ever saw was a big one (under 10ct.) also round with super proportions and very strong perfect star, even more transparent and in hot pink from Burma. The magic and sublime beauty that one showed I could not have imagined or knew that something like this exist if I not have saw that one. Hearing the price of it was letting me come back quickly to the ground. But an amazing unforgettable experience watching such a stone.

So pretty! Was this from the Desertrose Gems bunch? I love the unique shape. Do you know how you will set it?

Yes it was from the Desert Rose bunch!

loveeee the blue/green with black and gold!!!

I have a few ideas - definitely a ring

Style 1 inspo
  • a simple, 14k or 18k YG split shank bezel
  • maybe add black rhodium on bezel and keep YG shank

Style 2 inspo
  • 2 stone bezel with onyx in YG - the examples are not great, they are more ornate and not as well made as I would like, but basic idea

Here are my favorite cabs that are set in gold. I have about 55 custom made cab rings in sterling silver but I'm too lazy to take pictures of them all. It took me years to have them all made and theyre all rather large and chunky. Ive included Just a few of my ss cab rings but I love them all equally, think theyre all rather beautiful & wear them more frequently then my gold ones lately.

Beautiful! Doesn’t look that tiny to me!

Here's one of mine. Blue topaz surrounded by opals. It's like wearing a crystal ball on my finger.
ETA: it's impossible to take a picture of it without my phone camera, the bathroom mirror, my bathroom counter, etc. reflecting back in the stone. How embarrassing!

Thank you! It is on the small side compared to the other gorgeous cabs here on this thread haha.
