hey all

all of your stories are lovely.
DG - you must be BESIDE yourself with waiting to meet her ........ so exciting !
and please don''t be offended but I''m not British, if you lose the ''b'' and ''t'' and shuffle the letters a bit, then you''ll have it right ! I''m from Kerry in SW Ireland - bit of a paddy you know!

For my part, I used to be a firm believer in ''spark at first sight'' but I knew my love for ages (through work) before our spark. If someone had ever made me stop and think about him, I would have said I thought he was handsome but somewhat ''scarey'' (he''s ex-military, they are a species all their own, can be intimidating if you don''t understand them !! ). A lot of cultural differences too - I had never dated anyone who wasn''t from home until Peter.
Anyway, we both went through break-ups around the same time; I, being the girl, was being a little less in control than he and my first Christmas out of ''home'' I had been crying at work, sad, lonely and he happened by and gave me a big hug.

emidea.gif
THAT WAS IT !!!!! A hug, and both our worlds changed !

After that we skirted around each other for a bit but started exchanging e-mails, then phone-calls, then finally lunch or whatever. And now we''re here, just over two years since The Hug !

Love can just bite you on the arse when you least expect it ! hehehehe !

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!! Glad to have a male chocoholic in our midst! (FI doesn''t like chocolate, the crazy man!!)

MelissaSue, that theatre is amazing. I can''t believe you would pic anything else

rfath, I love your site as well. Very nice. I wish it had inside pics though

Now, for the bets. Are we going until Jan. 2nd or Jan 1st. (trying to maximize my days)

persistent, I don''t know how you are maintaining composure. My BF has managed to keep me in the dark on when the ring is coming. Part of me thinks he may already have it. that sneaky guy

diamondgeezer - have you tried whisky and root beer? It''s surprisingly good, much better than whisky and coke, IMO. Or do you drink it straight?

A scouser or a liverpudlian?

lol.....it''s from elementary school, when you were doing arts & crafts...and your teacher would say, ''Fold your paper in half'' and if she said ''hamburger-ways'' it meant the fold went perpendicular through the long side, and if she said ''hot-dog-ways'' it meant the fold went through the short side, so it looked like you got two long, skinny pieces of...hot dog. I don''t think the hamburger-ways makes any sense unless you understand it''s only hamburger in relation to the hot-dog-ways. LMAO!!!!
9.gif
Ahhhhhhhhh... now i get it. It does make a lot more sense when you pair it with "hot-dog-ways"!

JC - No problem!

Me and some of my friends were friends with a bunch of guys that lived in the dorm next to us freshman year and D was one of those guys. About 6 months of just being in the crowd together, one night out at a party, he kissed me. We dated for a bit, went seperate ways, would see each other at parties every once in a while (the whole mutual friends thing), then after not seeing each other for about a year, he needed a ride (car broke down) and my house happened to be close by. The rest is history! Had you told me when we first met we were going to get married i would have thought you were on drugs!
9.gif

LOLOLOL@ the chocolate bunny attack!! TOO CUTE!!!!
9.gif

Okay, let''s say the time frame is THROUGH the 1st of Jan. ie, proposals UP TO AND INCLUDING 11:59pm 01-01-05.

I''m thinking I shoulda picked a bigger number!!!

lol, pub = public house = type of bar

arse = ass

erin - both, lol
scouser = someone from liverpool
liverpudlian = someone who supports liverpool football club (as opposed to everton football club, the other big club in the city)

and yes, I drink my whisky straight!

9.gif
I would never have whisky with a mixer, and I''ve never drank whiskey

Oh my gosh.. SOOO much activity here today. I have been busy baking and frosting cookies all day.

Well... as for the reception site.. its NOT expensive. The rental fee would probably end up being.. under $1000 definitely ($500 for 4 hours for 100 guests.. we''ll have probably $120.. we''d probably want to do at least 5 or 6 hours..). They do the alcohol which would be extra (per guest).. My father talked to a caterer that does work there.. and that seemed within budget. the ONLY problem is that the theatre won''t book til June. If I could. I''d book the place tomorrow.. thats how much I want to have it there But.. I don''t know if I want to wait that long.. my fiance has me somewhat convinced that we can wait... but I mentioned it to my mom and she was not pleased. She is acting like I''m being a big brat because I don''t want to have my wedding in some average banquet hall.

All you girls hoping for christmas rings.. I''m hoping right along with you!! There have not been enough ladies crossed off the list lately!

Goldengirl - I''d kill him.. that was like my incident in the park!!!

Oh.. and about picture invites.. I think they are a cute idea.. but a friend of mine used them.. and I don''t know.. I thought it was a little bit saying "I love myself..here.. look at me.." then she had pictures of them AGAIN as placecards at the reception (the same photo and layout as her invites) ... which okay.. its THEIR day.. I guess we should all be looking at her.. but the real humdinger was.. she sent out photos of her and her husband from her wedding with her thank yous! I have enough pictures of her now!!!
I want one of the invitations with the "Today I marry my best friend" theme..because that is so us..

Oh, man, you guys, I got a ticket in the mail today for running a red light.
7.gif
I''m NOT a red-light-runner, so I know it was either 1)somebody was too close behind me for me to feel comfortable stopping, 2)the yellow light was much shorter than expected, 3)I was the ONLY person anywhere near the intersection and figured going through an orange wouldn''t kill anybody. It was taken the day after Thanksgiving at noon, so odds are I was really tired and making bad judgment calls, too.
39.gif
And right when I *just* got my record finally clean of any offenses, and I took traffic school a little over a year ago so that''s not an option either!! POOEY!!!

Ah well, anyway, here''s my invite inspiration:

stardustleaflrg.jpg

This is another one I really like, it has an embossed border of maple leaves:

GG- bummer about the ticket...is your traffic school eligibility every 2 years? That is a stinky thing to get around the holidays.

I also met my FH on-line...match.com. He had had some friends who had already gotten engaged to girls they had met on match, and I was a traveling fool for work so no time for me to meet anyone any other way. We met in person about 2 weeks after communicating by e-mail/phone. Now its 2+ years later, and things are looking sparkly....

MelissaSue- I would TOTALLY wait until June to try to get that place. And I would call every month just to keep your wedding on the coordinators mind.

I think that there will be 5.5 rings/proposals over the holidays (all the other close numbers were taken, so I am counting .5 as a proposal without a ring)

The .5 is JCJD.. she already has her proposal.. but will get her ring soooooon!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goldengirl - sorry about your ticket.. are tickets by mail a regular thing around there? They are VERY rare here. I don''t know anyone who has gotten one actually. They are one of those things that people "claim" can happen, but no one has actually seen them happen. That sucks to get a ticket for something you don''t even remember doing. On a brighter note.. I relaly like your invites! These are some invites I like:

These are the "best friend" ones that I mentioned before. I''d like these ones even better if they were white and not yellowy with gold.

AWAC4713_zoom.jpg

And I think these two are really nice and modern looking..

The more and more I look at this thread the more and more I want some BLING under my tree!!!!
19.gif

I KNOW it's not happening and need to accept that...but it's so hard.

I seriously look online EVERY DAY. Is that too obsessive?!

I need another hobby!!!!

Anyone else with this problem?
20.gif

Oh-I vote there will be 6 girls marked off by the New Year....doubt I'm one, but still...if and I mean IF it happens for me...it will be New Years Eve.

Good luck ladies!

Yeah, you''re only eligible to take traffic school every two years. That''s okay; I''ve decided I''m just going to ignore it. Legally they have to serve me with the ticket within a certain time frame or it''s dropped. I''m willing to take that chance and just not open the door for strangers!
2.gif

MS, yeah, AZ''s one of 18 or 19 states that have incorporated photo tickets. Most of our lights just catch red-light-running, but we have a few that are also speed radars. Those ones SUCK, because if you''re one of those people who speeds up to get through a yellow, even if you''re perfectly in the clear and out of the intersection before it''s red, you still get a ticket for speeding. BS.
38.gif

And again, can''t wait to move to KY, where they barely have radar for the COPS....
2.gif

I like your invites, too! I like the clean, modern ones that use funkily-formatted text to create visual interest.
1.gif

Isn't receiving it in the mail considered it being served?

maybe we will see "five gold rings"?

this has gotten me thinking... I wonder... are the petty American jingoists singing "...four calling birds, three freedom hens, two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree"?
9.gif

I putting my guess in at 10. That list HAS to get shorter!!! Fingers crossed for everyone!!!

DG - Freedom hens... hahaha... cant say ive heard people singing that, but im sure somewhere they are.

GG - Sorry about the ticket. Those suck. They are all over the place here in DC/VA/MD and i try to avoid them all the time! Did you let any one borrow your car? Cause if you werent the one driving... no dice. LOVE LOVE LOVE your inspiration invites!

Amal - Dont feel bad about being addicted. We ALL are addicted.
9.gif

Cross me off! He asked me last night as soon as he got his hands on the ring! What''s crazy is I was totaly expecting him to hold it over my head until Christmas, but he didn''t!
The FedEx package came yesterday afternoon and I did everything I could to keep from opening it...the house is VERY clean right now! I was upstairs when he came home from work and he made some joke about me opening and retaping the box (which, although it was tempting, was not attempted). When I came downstairs he was on his knees! He did fumble and drop it as he asked me
6.gif
. So we were both laughing the whole time.

36.gif
I''m so excited!

Much thanks goes to Mark at engagementringsdirect. He helped pick out an incredible diamond and had connections with GelinAbaci and was able to have it set in the ring I''ve always wanted!

YEA PERSISTANT!!!! Congratulations!!!! Now you get to show off your new sparklie all weekend with family and friends!!! You cant leave us hanging without pictures!!!

congrats persistent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I''m glad that he didn''t wait til christmas! We want to see hand pics!

congratulations persist!

I am watching this Aussie show, "Surprise Wedding", these 5 girls come on and proposed to their guys and they get married (or not...) on national TV! they propose one day, then they come back with the gown and wait to see what the guy says - 3 so far, 3 said yes, 3 weddings
9.gif
whilst I don''t think girls should propose unless it is February 29th and there is no way I would get married on tv, it is really sweet to watch
9.gif
they just went to a commercial break
39.gif

Ama: I''m addicted too...I think part of the problem is b/c I''m in my slow time at work, so I too much "free time" to think and research

Persistent: CONGRATULATIONS!!! I can''t wait to see the pictures of it on your hand!

39.gif
39.gif
39.gif
they showed the next one a video of her guy running away and catching a cab after she proposed.

then they pull back the curtain and there he was in a suit, he comes over and she asks him again.

he says "I''m sorry, I can''t get married... without my best man being here"

then he turns to the presenter and says "can you bring him out please?"

and out comes (who I think is) the womans'' son, he asks her if he should marry her, and he says yes

so they get married
39.gif

Congrats Persistent!!!!!!!!!

Persistent that''s such great news!! WE NEED PICS.
36.gif
Congratulations!! You were so good not to open the fed-ex box.
What an amazing display of restraint!!

Well girls, my vote is for 5 christmas/new years proposals. I have been behind on all the posting due to last minute holiday drama. I can not WAIT for this day to be over.. my BF and I are taking next week off. Of course I will stay tuned for proposal stories, esp my favorite poster- Christmas Eve Proposer. Has anyone followed his story? One night I couldn''t sleep and spent 4 hours reading that "This is my last post" thread. lol.

well, no sparkly for me this Christmas but hopefully it won''t be much longer.... I''ll keep buying the bridal **** anyway.
2.gif

BTW did any of you see the battlestar gigantica asscher ring posted last week (can''t remember the thread). Stunner.

-lovey

This is my first post!
My bfriend and I just started looking at rings, but after 3 years, I''m hoping I don''t have to wait much longer.
Add me to the list!
