Sergey do you mean "look" at it, or photograph it from various positions to create an over exposed flair?
What background shade or color should be used? Dark or light?

What a great thread!

Ellen, how are you keeping your platinum so mirror shiny? You are wearing your ring, right!?

MINE!, I have admired your ring ever since I first saw it. I''m not a big colored gem nut, but I love your ring, very unique, and beautiful! Thanks for posting!

gail, it''s WG, and yes I wear it, lol. I do take it off to do a lot of things though, but it''s still got a ton a dings and scratches in just 6 months. They don''t show much in real life, but really show up in these magnified pics in bright lights.

well, I dunno what serg wants but this is a pic of my diamond on a mirror - the top one is the "real" one, the rest are reflections (and refractions) this was taken on my first day before I learned a bit more about focusing - but as you can see here, this type of refraction is not dependent upon focus - it''s just there.

Cehrabehra,

Re: the top one is the "real" one, the rest are reflections

What is reason secondary reflections? :
Did you use mirror or prism?
What was angle between mirror and lens your camera?

Just a note to congratulate MINE! for her courage in posting her gorgeous spess in this thread!

It''s funny. When this thread first appeared, I pulled out my colored stones to see what I could get on camera. While I love what direct sunlight does to them (seems to capture the light and hold it glowing inside the stones) I could not get the glaring exterior fireworks produced by diamonds.

While colored stones will always be my first love, I must say this great thread has made me appreciate diamonds more than I did before...so much fun to play with!

widget, great to hear about your new found adoration. That was the whole idea of this thread, just to have fun!

I do not know the angles - that was the first day I ever had a large diamond in my posession and I took an old mirror I had (old/thick mirror), cleaned it the best I could, put the diamond on it and thought it was cool so I took some pictures.

In the first reflection you get what is almost "fire". I assumed as the "mirror" of the diamond and the "mirror" of the mirror interacted it created that eternity effect and each time it did so it refracted the colored light just a little bit more. Here''s a montage of these shots that I''d taken.

I decided that since we finally had some sun today, that I would try to take a few...

this photo was taken using a fisheye macro lens to help
reduce the circle of confusion and lens flare. this photo is for Gary

I think the bottom stone needs a better paint job / and or better
angle from the lens.

Wow Dhog, it would be great to see the shots with a lot of lens flare then!!!
Notice how black the stones go in direct sunlight

Do the same set up but with a black no reflecting background and the stones will look less black in direct sunlight

DD, thanks for posting, beautiful rings!

Thought I'd include a few I got while shooting my new earrings. They are in an old crystal dish (except this first one), sitting on a wood table. I LOVE the contrast.
