The LIW Small Talk Thread

He doesn't communicate with his parents that much. I just thought he can't "assume" they know. I just want him to tell them.

I've decided that I will not wear my ring. I don't want to have to worry about it all the time. I just want to enjoy the moment with him alone. I get to wear it for the rest of my life anyways, I'll be ok. heehee...

I want to buy a book about wedding... so that I can read it on the plane. :)

But YOU shouldnt have to not wear your ring because of his mother. This is a step you ahve choosen to take together, and you are detatching yourselves away from your parents, so maybe this should be step one. Taking a stand against her enviousness, and wearing your ring. Just my two cents.

So, SO told me today, my birthday present came while i was at work. He told me it was no big deal and didnt cost a lot. I told him today i dont care if it cost a penny, its the though that counts. Im betting its either earrings, a neckalce or some new pants since im in dire need of them...lol

BG -- Don't worry about him not calling his parents immediately. B's mother still doesn't know we're engaged.
It bugged me at first that he wasn't excited enough to call and tell her but when I talked to him, I got that he was happy and didn't want to call her and ruin it. (they aren't close)
Guys are different than us. I've seen women on PS talk about their FI calling a bunch of people or organizing a party to celebrate, but that isn't always what happens. B doesn't hide that we are getting married, but he doesn't go out of his way to tell everyone. (Ex: he didn't send an e-mail to everyone he works with announcing that we are engaged, but when I baked cupcakes for him to take to work he sent out a message letting everyone know that his fiance baked cupcakes that morning and anyone who wanted could help themselves in the coffee room)
Anyway, it doesn't mean he isn't excited.... he just acts differently.

awwwww. TOO that was sweet of you to bake everyone cupcakes. I also agree, men are weird, so he'll tell them in his own time, but i still think when he does, you wear your ring. thats your ring!

So after talking with the SO last night about possibly doing cooking school while in school, he thinks its a bad idea. I didnt look at everything, but after talking to him, im glad i did. His points were," Jessie. if you go to cooking school, when will you ahve time to work? Also, what about school, that will take focus away from college for you, and you wont do as well. Thats putting unncessary stress on you, along with work". I have to agree, granted if i could swing it, the pay off in the long run would be good, but i dont know if i should stress my mind and body to that point. I would basically be getting up, going to work for a few hours, than going to cooking school for a few hours, and than going to college for a few hours, 5 days a week. Thats a lot.

I just have to say, that my mother is at it again. I swear, she never gives it a break. At least yell at me, or ride my tush for something meaningful like if i wreck the car, or burn down the house. Last night my mother called my cell phone while i was in the middle of dinner with C, i of course didnt answer because i was eating. She than calls the house, to tell me i HAVE to come home to clean up after my cats. I asked what they did, more worried they got sick. Her reply was" Your cats pooped on the floor, you have to come clean it, its been sitting" :o I was speechless, i asked her why she couldnt just pick it up, its not like it blood, and letting it sick is gross. Her reply, was" because they are your cats. If you dont want them, you need to find someplace for them. Im tried of watching your cats. You ust need to come home" I think its funny how she can always find something wrong, when she wants me home, instead of saying"Jessie, why dont you just come home, i miss you", instead i get her yelling at me over something meaningless. Its like, she just cant give it a break. I come home, scoop the litter, which wasnt bad, and than go to bed. I come into work, yes we work together, and shes like" Gina( My coworker) can you tell Jessie to find a place for her and her cats. " While im standing right there asking a question. I cant even friggin talk at work, because she is there! Im just so damn frustrating. My mother always does that, or talks about me, loud enough for me to hear. Its like, i dont understand why she cant grow up. Normal mothers arent like this, couldnt she have ust given it a rest until next week, why this week. My birthday week, honestly, shes a HUGE reason why i dont want to celebrate. Sorry for the rant, but im sick of it, and i dont want to be forced to live with C until WE are ready, not HER. Blah, honestly, i feel like ust crying, :blackeye:

:nono:
I'm sorry your mom is at it again. That is just crazy.

Your bf has good points about the cooking classes. You'd wear yourself out and not do well in college or cooking.... not to mention that you need time to sleep. And there's always homework and study for exams....

Could you find a different job that pays more and isn't working with your mom? Maybe you could apply at a local bakery (or even a restaurant that has pies/cakes) since your're already good at it.

I just cant get a friggin break :nono:

Ive been searching for a job, but there isnt much here. I sometimes hate living here because right now, we have the worst unemployement rate, and it seems no one is hiring. There was a ob fair yesturday and maybe 100 positions , and more than 2000 people showed up. I would know, i was there. :errrr: . I will call some local bakeries though and see if anyone is hiring.

Job fairs... :knockout:

Stay positive. I'm sure there is someone out there with a job that is a good fit for you.
If the calling doesn't work, go into the bakeries and talk to them -- ask specific questions, give feedback on their samples, show that you know your stuff -- I saw a thread awhile back that a poster got invited to interview by a jewelry store because she was looking at stuff and really knew what she was talking about.

How long until you finish your degree?

What are you studying in college Jessie? It sounds like your bf doesn't want to sacrifice your education for short term gains, which is definitely the right move. I like Too's idea for finding a bakery or a restaurant to work at. Those are the kinds of places with high turnover rates, so hopefully you can catch someone with an immediate opening. Good luck with your search!

And sorry about your mom, I can definitely see why you're antsy to get engaged and move in with your bf!

Hey Too, I went hunting for your ring pictures but I couldn't find them. Did you have a SMTB thread or did you just post here? What does your ring look like?

Thanks Too, Thanks Cali...maybe i will go ahead and do that. I know of some good bakeies, even if im just sitting at the front counter that will help.

Yeah, i hate job fair,s its like cattle casting calls.I wont finish school for another 3 years. Blah, and im studying Theatre education and Special.

Im antsy to ust get engageed to him and get married and call him my hubby, but my om situation does add to the antsyness of the whole sitaution.

Sorry, it was back a bit further than I thought. Here it (well, they) are. the center stone of the one ring is about 1/2 ct with full ring around 1.5ct. The other (technically the w-band in the set -- not going to be my w-band) is my "lock washer" -- to make sure the e-ring doesn't fall off  (gotta love guys who work with tools and understand the importance of a less expensive piece of metal to hold the important stuff in place :cheeky: ).

Too- your ring is Sooo pretty, i love when you post pics of it. Now if we could just get BG's, ill have a ring overload :D

Oooooh, very very pretty. I bet those rings sparkle like crazy! I love the two of them together, super blingy.

Thanks Jessie & Cali,

yeah... lots of sparkle -- especially in sunlight or under the track lighting at home (now you see my real motivation to get the lights installed in the office and guest room :cheeky: ) I've got to get better with that camera so I can post some decent pics ;(

My "dream ring" (in my mind) was exactly this but with a .75 centerstone and total weight of 2ct.... Then I saw my "dream ring" in person and put it on and decided it was a bit too big to be comfortable wearing all of the time and since I waited almost 6 years for this thing there's NO WAY anyone is going to get me to take it off.

its funny how sometimes when you go to try your dream ring, and than you dont like it anymore. Im glad you like it, and yeah, now i TOTALLY get the track lighting.

Hehehehe....

You've got to try it! We've got MR16 and par10 in the house.

I mean, it is nice to be able to shift them to light how we want, add more whenever we feel like it, not have to dust lamps, and can switch over to LED to save a lot of electricity but.... you've got to have priorities :))

I like the LED part, but honeslty, we dont use that muhc lights in the house. and he has all the light on a timer since he works swing shift. Its actually funny to me because we used the chandeliar in the formal room on christmas and i was surpised how much light it gave, we hadnt touched it since halloween  . He is a light freak too, he as put solar lights in the front and the back, he changes the bulbs so that the lights match the holiday or season, and got a LED light for the pool that has like 20 different " Light" shows. Its alwasy funny to me because Sunday afternoon he'll go outside, to check his lights and change the bulbs, and i ust sit on the couch and giggle at him. Wonder what light scheme he'll go with for sunday, we are gonna through a bbq/swim party for my birthday. Im excited but not because our friends are bringing their dogs. I feel bad, cuz i want to say" Ummm, can you not bring them", but they called yesturdya and said thye got swimsuits for their dogs*smh*. Friggin A its gonna be a party for the dogs. :nono:

I'm sorry about your mom! I hope your SO will propose soon so that you can move in with him because it's meant to be.. not because your mom is kicking you out. I agree with your SO. If you're taking school classes, cooking classes AND working, would you have enough time? I don't want to see you all stressed out and tired all the time.

Today, I'm feeling crabby. PMS!!! I wish I can get my period soon, like NOW. I'm going to Hawaii next Monday. I don't want to have a cramp during my trip. :errrr:

Too: do you ever have problems taking off/putting on your ring? These two days it's so hot here. It hurts my joint a lot to try to put on/take off my ring. My side of my finger point is RED. OMG. I think it's just hot. I never had that problem before when I tried it on and off in April or even in June, even the night my FI proposed to me. Maybe I'm just worrying too much. I'm going to the jeweller to have the ring tightened tomorrow.

BG- :?: . I sorry you are crabby, i hope your AF comes like today so you wont have to deal with it next week, on vacation. I dont see SO proposing this month, blah. Im betting my bday gift is earrings. LoL....I know when its hot here, the rings i wear always seem to get stuck. Its like, when tis hot, you retain water ya know. Mayeb try drinking more water, or possibly take a water pill. Also, it might be a little more tight due to PMS.

It is too dark outside most of the year to not have lights on in the house. Our problem right now is that we've got very few lights so in order to have enough light to even moderately light a room, we have to turn on all of the lights in the surounding rooms. (The living room used to need at least 600 watts of light turned on in the dining room & front entry to be usable -- even that wasn't enough to read anything. When we had a guest stay for a few days in January, we had to buy a little lamp for the guest room and give him a flashlight so he could see to get to the lamp :nono: :nono:

Is it much lighter down where you are? I know people from California who have complained that Washington is just too dark.

Your party will be great. And dogs (especially when they are dressed up) make for great excuses ---
need to change the subject? Just say "awww. Look at the cute dogs"
want to get away from someone? Just excuse yourself to make sure the dogs have plenty of water.

I've never thought of that. My dad is like "you're so nervous... calm down... the more nervous you are, the more you can't put it on"

It's probably just hot here. Sometimes, I have really hard time taking off my RHR when it's hot. However, in the winter time, my RHR keeps on spinning and slide in and out like crazy on my finger. I guess my e-ring will be like that too.

BB laid her 3rd egg today.

Yeah, theres lots of light here in Nevada. Too much if you ask me, i like it dark. LoL...
Now, i understand you need for lights. Wow, a flash light to get to the lamp. Goodness so it MUST be dark up there. Wow, i never knew it was like that.
Well, i wouldnt feel so guilty if they, our friends, didnt keep their doggies caged up. But they keep them caged up so i feel bad. I guess, ill just play nice hostess like i alwasy do* Puts on fake smile* :D But thats a great idea....i love it Too, thanks.....: Please excuse while i go fee the doggies" i love it.

Bg- i love how your dad is telling you to calm down. No worries hon, in a few days it wil be back to normal. I swear it.

Sometimes I have trouble. My biggest problem is that when I do take them off and they get a bit stuck, I get worried and my hands start to swell (mine swell when I'm stressed -- I've learned this thanks to my ring)

I notice that it fits a bit tighter (and hangs up a fair amount when I slide them off) when:
it is hot
I haven't had enough water to drink
leading up to (and during) period
I'm stressed
I've eaten too much salt (can be medium salty stuff for a few days or just really salty for a meal)

Thanks Jessie! I worry too much. My dad is like "you don't want it to be too loose." One time he was throwing stuff and his ring popped right out.

When fall comes here, it is always dark because it rains all the time!

I think I am experiencing all the stuff you just mentioned. It's not tight on my finger (the flesh part), just the joint when I take it on/off. I will stop stressing out over little stuff.

Thats true, you dont want it too lose, and comming off whenever you move your arm. That would make me a nervous wreck.

wow, see in falll its still light here. Usually around December it will be dark ar 4 oclock though. I think thats so cool!

When you notice your ring is too tight TOO- do you drink more water?

Yeah... Funny now but pretty sad at the time.
It isn't bad during the summer (when it is sunny) but spring and fall are pretty dark and in the winter the sun is down around 4:00pm for awhile. Part of the year we get up and go to work when it is dark and then come home again when it is dark. If the weather sucks in between, it might not get much lighter during the day. Oh how wonderful it is to walk out to the car in the morning before work and see daylight...

I like Washington. Really. The seasons are nice. It just isn't optional here to have good lighting. (they've done studies that show that people in Washington have a high occurence of depression during the dark months and I think one even found an increased suicide rate)

Caged dogs ;( :angryfire:
Grrrr.... Not much you can do though. Will they let them out if you suggest it?

BG -- my strategy is to just never take my rings off. If I don't try to take it off, I don't notice my puffed up hands so I don't stress about it. It also means that I won't wake up in the morning after a heavily salty dinner and not be able to wear them when I leave the house. Yeah... it leaves me with a ring that may be a bit stuck, but as long as my finger is getting blood okay I don't worry about it.

ETA: BG described the dark well -- when it rains it is dark. Unfortunately it can rain a lot here during the spring, fall, and winter.

I drink more water and that helps sometimes. I've been trying to drink 2 liters each day (I keep a 1 liter water bottle with me so I can just drink when I want and it helps me make sure I drink enough).

I'll also cook super low salt stuff for a few days.

If my pants are getting tight too or if the water & low salt doesn't help....
I pull out the 30 day shred and get started exercising. (my pants and ring are telling me I need to do this now ;( )

Too: My setting is a bit high, I'm not used to wearing it all the time yet. Maybe I just baby it now because it's new. I feel like the metal on the ring is a bit "sharp" because it's new. Do you think the metal might become "smoother" after awhile? I bet we have similar weather because we're somewhat close?
