The LIW Small Talk Thread

That would be so romantic.I think for that location, they would have to stand, so maybe another part in the park. I love gardens and outdoor weddings. Espically when they are a lot of flowers and stuff and it makes EVERYTHING smeel good. I know i want a lot of Orchids and Gardenias and Roses for mine. Speaking of smelly stuff, , a local spa does a rose petal wrap, they like scrub you down with a sugar scrub with rose petals, and than rinse you off, and than massage you with rose oil and grape seed and than sprinkle roses all over your body and wrap you in a warm sheet, and let you relax. THAT SOUNDS SO NICE!!!

Cali- Thanks, i wish he would stop planning seriously. How did the dentist go? O YEAH, WERES YOUR RING!!

Sooo my ring arrived this morning... I got to look at it for 30 mins before going to the dentist and my bf scared the crap out of me. He took it out of the fedex box and looked at it before I could see it. While he was studying it, he had the "uh oh" look on his face, like I wasn't going to be happy with it. I grabbed the box and when I saw it, all I could say was "that looks friggin huge!" I took it out and the shank looked a little skinnier than I had wanted, but it honestly looked perfect with the diamond. I was so happy with it, and then my bf said he was a little panic stricken that I would think the shank was too thin. We measured it and it was 2.5mm, when the work order was for 2.4mm. I honestly had to fight Leon to get it above 2mm, and I am so glad I did. It looks perfect.

The secret stones are really cool too, but there is a little thing I'm not 100% happy about. My bf's birthstone is a peridot and Leon said they could not use a peridot since he has problems with them in the past. He said they would use a similar colored gemstone to mimic the color and I agreed. Well, it's a little darker than I had hoped for and I think it looks closer to an emerald than a peridot, but it's not too big a deal. However, my pink diamond soooo pretty, I love it!

The diamond looks enormous though, it's definitely doing to be noticed . But I guess this way I won't need to upgrade!

BG - what kind of diamond cleaner are you going to use? I noticed that as I pranced around my house with it on that it collected some dust particles. I just want to find an easy cleaner, I don't think I'm gonna go the whole sonic cleaner route...

Cali- that sounds unqiue and so pretty. I cant wait to see pictures. Why did you ahve to fight with Leon, to get the shanks that size? Its okay if the diamond is bigger, like you said you wont have to upgrade, you can ust get new sparklies :D

And I'm finally going to vent about the dentist! The deal was that I had 10 veneers put on my upper teeth a few months ago, but I thought 3 of them didn't look right. So I had those 3 removed and in the past 2 months, I've gone through 3 sets of new veneers for those teeth and each time they did not match at all. Well, considering I'm moving in a week, they had to be perfect today (4th try) and thank god they were! I finally have all of my permanent veneers on and I can go back to eating real food (I had on temporaries before and they can come off if you chew on them).

This has been one of the best days of my life! I'm so glad my ring and teeth are perfect. It all just happened in the nick of time!

Thank Goodness, they finally got them right. I would have raised all unholy hell, if it were me. Whats the first thing you want to try to eat that you couldnt before?

Leon has certain ideas about what is aesthetically pleasing and to him, the thinner the band the better. He always wants to do the thinnest shank possible for a ring, but that is just not what I wanted. He said he did not like to go over 2mm, but honestly at 2.5mm it still looks super thin. He did a great job though with all the lines and angles, it could not have been executed any better.

Unfortunately no pics until the engagement. :((

Okay Ladies, im headed home, all talk to you later tonight, i gotta get some food to stop this headache :errrr:

BIG IS GOOD!!! OMG!!! I SO wanna see it!!!

I think I'll just dish detergent/warm water to soak. I'll buy a Jewel Jet and maybe steam cleaner it once a month. My jeweller said it's safe to use a steam cleaner. You have a solitaire, rite? You can use an ultrasonic then? But then, it uses chemical. hmmm...

congrats on the ring and your teeth.

I'm off to teach now. TTYL!

Ttyl Jessie!

Well I have the stones inside the band, plus the sonic cleaners just scare me. I'm too paranoid and just want the most gentle method. I like the idea of the steam cleaner, have you found one that you could recommend?

I have to say, I am loving the ideas for your wedding. A rose garden would be unbelievably romantic, and then you don't even need to worry about decorations since the scenery is enough! Are you going to keep the guest list down to do something more intimate like that?

What about a natural cleaner. I was thinking about the steam cleaner, but i would be afraid, espically since i am so accident proned, i can see how that would go

BG ---

FI says "She's doing WHAT!!!?". His suggestion is "don't do it".

The C drive is your system drive. It has your paging file and all sorts of important stuff on there. He says you probably ran into some system that won't allow the format because it will cause problems. "The ONLY time the system drive should be formatted is by the installation disk". So if you're installing a new operating system or something like that, it will take care of any formatting that needs to be done. Other than that, FI strongly suggests you not mess with the C drive. (It could cause serious problems that even a back up disk might not be able to fix)

What are you doing with your computer? Is this for a new operating system or something?

 I love your FI's reaction. Well... here is the problem. I keep getting a deadly blue screen for awhile. Its' so screwed up now, I get a blue screen EVERYTIME I turn on the laptop. It happened before many years ago. I formatted it with my recovery cds that comes with my laptop. The laptop was like new after that. This time, I did the same thing, I put in the recovery CDS. It says partition is too small. Maybe my C drive has too much stuff? I might have to delete something before I put in the recovery cds?

I would say steam cleaner. I have a pave ring. I also worry about the chemical. I've been doing some research. It seems like Jewel Jet steam cleaner is the best way to go. They have it on ebay. It can't clean gem stones or anything with glue in it though. It can clean silver. My Tiffany silver charms are very dirty. :errrr: I can't wait 'til i get to steam clean them.

Thanks for the recommendation BG. I just did a quick search on the Jewel Jet and it seems like the safe way to get a good clean. I'm going to order one in a week or so.

ETA - oh wait, you can't clean gemstones with a steam cleaner. Do you think that also applies to my little stone inside the band? I mean, most of the cleaning will be done to the outside of the ring, so maybe it would be ok? Hmmm, I'm confused.

How goes the packing for your trip? It's right around the corner now, aren't you so excited??

OH YEAH.. You have little stone inside. Hmm... I don't know then. When you're steam cleaning it, you kinda have to twist your ring around to clean it. Plus, you don't know if the little gem stones can stand the HEAT. Maybe you should ask the ppl who made your ring?

Packing is good. I just picked my clothes. I have shorts, dress, tanktops and mini skirts. I got my reading materials. I'm excited about my trip. FI has been very very busy at work this week. He's staying at the office until 9ish every night. I asked if he needs to bring work to Hawaii with him. He said, he'll bring his blackberry. We haven't been talking a lot since we got engaged last weekend. I know he has to finish everything before his vacation. He might have to cut his vacation short too. After our trip, he also took the week off. We we planning to do some day trips. Now, he might have to work instead. I guess I can't really complain. I don't want to bug him about planning the wedding yet. Even though we really should start planning. Hopefully by the time we're back from Hawaii, my finger bump will be gone.

So stupid today! My last day teaching at the community center. 4 students didn't show up. I only had 3 students to teach today. Since they didn't tell me they were going to be away, I couldn't leave. Good that I get paid for their missed lesson. I bought a wedding planner today. I'm glad I brought it with me. I finished reading that within the 2 hours that my students didn't show up.

Haha, that's awesome you got through the wedding planner. I can't believe your students just didn't show up, that's unbelievably rude. But at least you got paid either way, so I guess it's not all that bad.

Sounds like you are more than ready for your trip! At least you have a full week to celebrate your engagement and get some quality time with your FI. Is he just really busy at work now, or is he always this busy? You sound very understanding about how much he works, so I hope he gives you his undivided attention while you're in Hawaii. What a bummer about the day trips, though. Maybe he could work something out so he could get a couple days off the week you come back, so you have a little time to decompress when you return?

I asked my bf about the steam cleaner and he said no way, the heat would still get to the gemstone and possibly damage it. I'm so bummed, I feel like my ring won't ever be super clean with just dawn and a soft brush.

I'm heading to bed, it's been a really long day. I'll catch ya later!

My FI is usually busy, but not as busy as this week. This week, he has been staying at the office until 9ish EVERY NIGHT. He probably have to work on Sat AND Sun too. Sometimes he'll have to work on Sat if he has a trial the next week. I can't believe I still haven't complained about his busy schedule yet. Well, I know he's just busy because of his vacation. I am learning to be more understanding. I'm trying to learn to be a good wife.

I agree with your bf. The heat will probably be back for the gem stones. I guess just use dawn/water more often.

FI wants to know what kind of laptop you have.

He said that with what you've said he would suggest buying a new (larger) hard disk drive for your laptop (since they are usually pretty cheap). You can also get a little holder for your old disk so that it can connect to your laptop with USB and you can get the data you need off that way. Without seeing the message you're getting, he thinks it is the one that just means your disk isn't big enough to install the operating system (Windows, Linux, etc)

I have a Sony Vaio. I was thinking about what you said about putting a king size bed in a small washroom. Then, I decided to uninstall some programs using the safe mode. I thought if I free up some space in my C drive, I can probably format my computer with the recovery CDs. The good thing is... when I restart the computer again after uninstalling stuff.... TATA... my laptop works. No more blue screen. I don't know why. Everything seems to be working fine now. We'll see. *cross my fingers* I'm on my laptop typing this.

Please say THANK YOU to your FI for me anyways.

Morning Ladies :wavey:

bg- im glad you could get that fixed on your laptop...i was worried

Too- wow, your FI must know a lot about computers. YAY for you.....feeling better today?

Could be that your disk got too full with everything and it wasn't able to deal with it. It is also very likely that one of the programs you uninstalled was having problems with something (not compatable with another, stuck with a direction it couldn't get to complete (I've seen ours do this), etc). Hopefully it'll keep working when you get your other stuff reinstalled again.

Jessie -- Happy birthday (a day early :)) ) :wavey: I hope you have a great weekend.

Cali -- enjoy your weekend.

I'll catch up with the last couple of days of posting later. I've got to get the house ready for my mom to visit this morning.

O wow TOO- I hope it's a good visit for you with her. Also, thank you for the birthday wishes.

I just bought 4 of my books......361, and i still need another book. Blah, know i know why i hate school

I finished teaching for the day already. My bump is kinda going away. I wanted to put my ring on because I'm having lunch with a friend. I want to show her. I was scared putting it on. I use soap to help me. I was scared. It was better. However, my finger slipped and I dropped the ring into the sink. I plugged the sink of course. Now, I don't know if i'm being paranoid or what. I felt like I can see some "scratches" or "dent" on the prongs. Well, I'm sure once I start wearing it more often, I'll see more scratches on it. *sigh*

O NO BG. i am so sorry hon. i think it would be paranoid too if that happened to me. im sure theres not scratches or anything, you it will probably get a few here and there when you start wearing it all the time. i am so sorry, its a good thing you have the sink plugged :o

It's ok. I can see little scratches with my mag. I can't expect it to have NO scratches on it whatsoever. At least I'll be more careful when I get it on/off now. I'll have them polish it when I get my wedding band. By that time, it might have more scratches on it.

Thats true, you can always have them polished off. I think sometimes we forget as LIW that things are going to bump into or scartch our rings ya know.

I know it can be fixed. My dad laughed at me for keep on looking at it with my mag. glasses. He said OF COURSE I'll see everything with that thing. My parents said I'm too picky.

I'm going out for lunch with a friend.. TTYL Thanks for making me feel better!

bg-how was lucnh with your friend?
cali- how is pakcing and your mother feel
Too- i hope you mom is doing good...any special plans for the weekend??

Okay Ladies, im trying to NOT get my hopes up, but it feels like the bf is plotting something. Seriously! I talked with him today and hes only working half a day tommorow, and he wants to clean the house for the bbq( understandable) but he wants to go get decorations and balloons for the bbq on sunday. What in the heck do we need balloons for for a bbq? Seriously, he better not be getting my all this worked up for earrings or a necklace. I'll love whatever he gets me, but it feels like something fishy is going on! :errrr: :o , or is just me. Bg, i think your paranoidness is rubbing off on me.

Hey ladies!

I've been packing and doing moving stuff all day and I just wanted to drop in to wish you a Happy Birthday Jessie! I don't imagine you'll be around much this weekend either, so I didn't want to miss you. I hope this weekend is YOUR weekend since it sounds like your bf is going to great lengths to plan something fun and special. It all sounds so cute and sweet, I love it. Anyways, just enjoy the time and if it happens, yay! but if not, I'm sure you'll still have a great birthday anyways.

BG - you sound exactly like me. I'm nuts about everything and if it's not completely perfect, I dwell on it and drive myself insane. I think with a ring you're going to wear everyday for the rest of your life, you just got to accept that it's not going to look new forever. Sorry that it happened so soon, I'm sure it still looks fabulous!

Too - have a great weekend as well!

Speaking of dwelling on flaws, one of my new teeth is annoying the crap out of me. They look great, I just don't like the way the edge feels when I touch it with my tongue, so I need to go back sometime next week and get it polished. So annoying, I just want to be done with the dentist.

Oh, and when my bf went to the gym today, I totally pulled out the ring and played with it. I got this nice email from Leon thanking me for letting him make it, so it made me want to adore it some more. I'm also driving myself nuts trying to decide if I got the right diamond or not, I think I'm just weird...
