The LIW Small Talk Thread

Im so glad your birthday was good BG...was wondering how it went. The dress sounds cute, willing to post pics? Whats everyone plans for the day?

Awww, great to hear that your birthday turned out great BG! We definitely need some pics of your new necklace. :naughty:

Seattle - Hmmm, I guess you're right about the weather. I used to live in downtown SF and it sounds like the weather there was pretty darn similar (I'm assuming with a little less rain, though). The same thing year round did wear on me eventually, that's why I'm really excited for it to snow here in a few months. I just wish I could get some rain. It never rained in AZ and it still hasn't rained here yet, argh.

Jessie - my plan was to sign up for a gym today, buuuuut my FI is there and I am home watching tennis. I'm so friggin lazy, I hate working out. What are you up to today?

HaHa, im being Lazy too. Im thinking of not going to my First class, and going to school a little later, and just printing out articles for my English class. LoL...theres so many for me to read and print, i think thats the game plan. Its a good thing the professor doesnt take attendance in my first class and posted the lectures on the net for us. It just seems like that class goes by so slow. Than tommorow im going to the gym with a friend, who lost a lot of weight, so she can help me. So i need to pack my gym bag.

My first year in college, I was so bad about going to classes where they didn't take attendance. But they didn't post notes online, so definitely not a smart move on my part.

Don't you hate planning for the gym? I dread it if I plan on going... I just need to go and get it over with. Maybe I'll try and go tomorrow. Got to get in a little shape for ski season or I'll die. :knockout:

LoL...If he didnt post the notes online, i would go, but since he does ill just read the book, and look at the notes. Im bad about it too

I do hate going to the gym, but i gotta get in better shape, halloween is coming up, along with a possible trip to my C's aunt and uncle( closest thing to living family he has) and i want to look my very best, i havent met them. They live in Kentucy, and were in Nv.

Yeah, go tot he gym tommorow and get a good workout in. Im trying to get back into my rountine.

FI just messaged me and said I won't like the gym he's joining. I'm thinking I might try yoga since I really just want to get a little healthier and tone up a bit. Ever done it?

I had Yoga tapes, and loved it, never done the class. Im thinking of taking one, since the gym on school offers free classes. I know its really good for flexibabilty :naughty: ....

Hmmm, I've never been very flexible. Maybe that will be FI's engagement gift, lol.

I've got to go shower and do something productive with my day. Enjoy your class!

Is anyone else having trouble on the forums today? It's not showing me updated posts or will only put partials in. On the main page it didn't even show that other people wrote stuff so I was here thinking it was a slow day!

Beezy - did you go to the outlets up in Marysville? If those are the ones I'm thinking of, I haven't been there in years. I didn't realize the deals were actually that good, a lot of people say outlets aren't always that much cheaper so I never seek them out. Were those coupons just because it was your bday or promos for the holiday weekend?

If you go to a gym that has classes, I think it's a lot easier to go to those to get a good workout. Using the elliptical for 30 minutes is hell for me, I get so bored...but if I take the aerobic kickboxing class for an hr the time goes by so much faster and I hurt a lot worse the next day. I get in a trend where I'll go to the gym for 5-6 days in a week, and then just stop and not go at all. 2 weeks ago I went all week and then I haven't been back since. I'm so tired now at work that I just go home and nap it seems. I've also been considering going on the hcg diet (don't judge) since I know a lot of people that have had a lot of success on it...but I'm not sure if I have quite the willpower to do it. If I decide to, I really need to start by the end of the month, because I don't want to miss out on the upcoming eating holidays. I'm not a huge fan of them, but I don't want to be stuck eating a piece of chicken if a whole turkey is in front of my face!

Cali - if you're thinking of doing yoga for your engagement gift and for exercise, you may as well look for the aerobic pole dancing classes. Now that'd be a gift to the FI  Haha, I had a friend that did it and she loved it. Oddly enough a friend of hers she went with posted a bunch of pics on FB. Not sure I would have been keen on that.

Seattle: yes the one in Maryville. I got the coupon 'cuz it's my b-day this month. Maybe the deal isn't that good for you guys. However, for us Canadian, they are very very good.

We've been engaged for almost 1 month already. We still don't have a date. I am anxious to set a date because I want to get married by Aug 2011 or something. I know good venues and other stuff need probably 1 year in advance to book. *sigh* Today, my parents suggested that we should have a casual dinner with my FI's parents. You know, to get to know each other. They've "met" before when we ran into each other at the mall. My FI thinks it's weird. Well, he is not really tight with his family, maybe that's why he thinks it's weird. I think it's normal for them to meet. My mom wants to find someone to pick a date for us according to our b-day/birth time. My dad said we have to because "we're CHINESE". However, my FI said his parents DO NOT believe in supersitious. *sigh* My parents really believe in stuff like that. It's a peace of mind for them. However, his parents might think we're WEIRD and might not like it. I don't know what to do. I don't want to argue with my FI because of this.

Seattle - I haven't had any problems with the forum today, so that's weird stuff wasn't showing for you. Maybe it was your connection being weird or something...
I gotta say, there is noooo way I would ever do a pole dancing class. I'm too shy for that plus I'm sure I'd be so awkward since my legs are like 5ft long. My FI also said I should do kickboxing, but that just doesn't appeal to me at all. I totall agree about the elliptical being so boring and I wanted to try something that would tone and improve my posture. Yoga's expensive, but I really think I'm gonna give it a try. I'll go monday and report back. :P
What is the HCG diet? I don't know anything about diets, I have no willpower so I don't even try.

BG - have you and your FI had any wedding conversations yet? After what he said about not being sure, it seems like he now has all the power to decide when the date will be set and when the planning will start. Have you considered having a really candid conversation about where you are compared to where he is, just so that you can try to get on the same page? That is one tough situation, sorry BG.

I think a get-together with the families could be great in moving you guys forward. But again, your FI is being resistant so it puts you in the uncomfortable position. If it's important to you, though, he should be a little more open to it. Relationships are about compromise, so when does he make a little sacrifice for you without complaint?

Thanks for your concern. My FI is getting better. We talked about it. We both agreed we should start planning now. He wants to pick our own date.

Beezy - that does make sense, I'm sure there's a lot of incentive to get Canadians down here to shop. How's the exchange rate anyways? NM I just looked it up, almost 1 to 1!!! That's crazy! The last time I went to Canada it was like 1 dollar to almost 1.50 Canadian!
It sounds like your FI trys to not act like he cares much about the date or specifics but in reality he really does. Are there a lot of traditions that your family would like to incorporate because you're Chinese? I wouldn't necessarily choose a date solely around a superstition but it'd be fun to at least see what someone would say. I'm half Japanese and I sometimes think about making those paper cranes for my wedding. There's some saying that 1000 paper cranes give a couple good luck - I've read things where they're either gifted to you or you can do them yourself. Some people might think it's crazy to make that many birds but I think it's cool. Perhaps you should set a time aside for you and your FI to sit down and really talk about the wedding, rather than bring things up in conversation. That way he can mentally prepare himself (and you too) on what you want/need to discuss. Guys have a convenient ability to tune things out when they're brought up on a whim.

Cali, how tall are you? Is there a gym that's nearby that offers a lot of different classes? I go to 24hr and they have everything from yoga to kickboxing, zumba, aerobic weighttraining, spin, etc etc. It's nice because you can try different things out and if you don't like a class, you don't ever go back. That way, if you end up hating the yoga class it's not a big deal since it's included in the membership. So far I enjoy spin, kickboxing, and aerobic weight training the most. I haven't tried zumba and the stair stepping class was a total tragedy for me. And No, 24hr doesn't offer a pole dancing class (yet).

The HCG diet is a diet where you consume 500cal's a day while taking special hormone. It sounds crazy and dangerous but I've read significant positive results and the negatives and people that have had problems are from those that abuse the diet or stray from the procedure. I've never really been a "dieting" person. I've done a 15day detox which was really good for me and tried low carb but my body decided to reject that right away so I couldn't continue. I'll let you know if I decide to begin it though, you'll probably just see a lot more complaining coming from me then! :)

BG - I had an impression in my mind but it seems like I was way offbase. Sincerest apologies. It's great that you are moving forward, so please keep us posted on all your planning progress. :appl:

Wow Seattle, that is one hardcore diet. I know absolutely nothing about nutrition so I won't say anything, but I'm just wondering how someone can get through a day on that few calories. If I don't eat every 1-2hrs, I get a headache and get shaky. I can't even fathom eating that little. Geez, if you do it good luck...

I was thinking of just going to a yoga studio. There is a 24 hr fitness nearby, but it got really awful reviews and I'd be a little nervous about taking classes without any experience. The yoga studio is about 5x as expensive as 24hr fitness though, so maybe I'll look into it a bit further.

You sound like you work out a lot, which is so awesome. How many times a week do you go to the gym? I wish I had that kind of motivation and desire. ::)

Oh, and I'm 6'1 and it's alllll leg. Hence my worry about anything involving swinging legs, haha.

You don't need to apology for anything. I treat you like my friend. You are just concern about me. I'm glad, because you just care/worry about me.

wow.. you are tall. I'm only 5'3. I should start doing some execises. I want to tone my arm and butt. What's the BEST way to tone those problem areas? I'm planning to lift weights and go on the elliptical exercise machine. I will avoid fried food and drink lots and lots of water. What do you guy think?

Seattle: I told my parents that my FI's family doesn't really believe in finding someone to choose a date. Even though they're also Chinese, they just don't believe that. My parents just want to pick some GOOD DATES. They said, at the end of the day, we don't want those dates, it's fine. We'll see what happened. I don't want to overwhelm my FI with the wedding EVERYDAY. About the 1000 cranes, I don't know if it's a tradition for Chinese people too. We think they are for good luck too. So, you're half Japanese, do you mind telling me asking... what's the other half? Is your FF Japanese?

Bg- im sorry about the thigns your going through with your family, i agree you shouldnt overwhelm you FI. Take it one step and one day at a time.

Cali - Well I'd like to think I work out a lot but only in spurts. I'm really good about going when I have something specific to target for. I was in a wedding last year (BM) and wanted to drop some weight beforehand. I lost about 10lbs by the time the dress came in from when I originally tried it on, and then it was too small even still (David's Bridal and they're really poor ability to have anything consistent with sizing) so I had to drop 10 more lbs to not be stuffed inside. I worked out every single day (except 2 days after bachelorette party) for 2 1/2 months. Too bad I've gained a little over 10lbs back since then :( I'm jealous you're so tall though, how tall is your FI? I was nervous about taking the classes too, without every having done them before but there's this 80-90yr old lady that does the kickboxing as well as some woman that seems like she's on crack (seriously, she makes up her own moves and grunts the whole hr) so I figure if they can do it, why can't I? Just stand in the back for the first few classes.

BG - I like the aerobic cardio classes for toning, as much as I try using weights or machines, I can't seem to tone up that well. I'm always trying to tone up my arms but I have jiggle that won't go away. I've given up on my butt years ago though, unfortunately that came from my Japanese side so there's no helping me there! :) So I'm half Japanese 1/4 Italian 1/4 Polish. Basically my mom is Japanese and my dad's American - product of the military I guess you could say. I was never a military brat (in my mind) since my dad retired by the time I was 2.

Ugh the bf is working late tonight and I'm starving!!! I was trying to hold off but just gave in and ate some toast. Here's hoping for a late night happy hour soon! Night ladies!

Theres nothing wrong with toast. Its good for when your drunk....lol

I heard it's extremely hArd to tone the arms. My FI said they're ok. I just want them to look better in my wedding dress. He said I need to work on my butt. He said it would be nice if it's a bit toned. I went back to hk for a month a fews summers ago. Within the month, I did a lot of walking (crazy lots). By the time I was back in Canada, my FI loves my tight butt. Haha. I guess all I have to do is walk more to tone it up.

I just came back from my FI's place. He agrees to let my parents consult someone for lucky days for us. We will start planning very very soon. I will do more research now. I asked him if he still has cold feet. He hugged me very tight, with a sweet smile on his face and said no.

Thats so sweet. Im happy things worked out :D

Thx Jessie. Don't you have school tomorrow? Still awake! What time is school tomorrow?

Yeah, i school tommorow. Im trying to get done with my draft for my first English essay, and trying to get done with some studying for my psy class. I have class at 1130 to 230....booo

You can do it! Why are you on ps then? Tsk tsk tsk...

HaHa...anytime im on the net, PS is always up. Its a very very bad habit. Why are you up so late?

Side Note, im so excited, the first football game for my team is Sunday......i cant stop walking around the house chanting" Football...Football...Football" while pumping my arms like a little kid. LoL.....

I am just surfing the web. I need to sleep earlier. I wanna have glowing and clear skin for my wedding. Heehee. I don't teach till 3:30 tomorrow anyways. Gonna wait for fedex tomorrow morning then to Costco. I should sleep now. Night night

BG - I'm so glad that everything has turned around and that your FI feels positive and secure! What a difference a couple days makes. How long before your parents will have the "good dates?" I'm curious to see what dates they come back with, I hope I have a good date!

Thanks for responding in my other threads! I'm still not sure what I'm going to do about the Ifon, but I'm booking our flight to NY in a few days. At the worst, I get to meet the master and figure out what kind of wedding band I want. Maybe he'll just love me and want to fix it on the spot.

Oh, and my goal is also to tone my behind. I think it's seriously the hardest place to target, I've never had much success with it. I'm hoping that walking, skiing and yoga will finally work some magic, but I'm not holding my breath.

Seattle - I took your advice and looked into the 24 hr fitness a little more. There are actually two of them within 5 mins of me and they have different types of classes, so I'm going to get the any gym pass. I'm going to go to Yoga at one and something called Piyo (pilates/yoga) at the other. I even bought an extra long yoga mat off amazon last night. It's such a better deal than joining a yoga studio so thanks for swaying me!

Omg, I was cracking up about the crazy crackhead lady at your gym. That made me feel a little better, but I'm pretty nervous to try something new since I don't handle not being the best very well. And going in, I know I will be the worst since I have no experience. Ahhh. I guess you just have to go and suck up your pride?

That is absolutely amazing that you lost 10lbs in a couple months. I think the most weight I've ever lost (when I was trying) was like 5 lbs and that took a lot of effort. I can't imagine losing 20lbs to be in a wedding. I just want to be more toned for my July wedding and maybe lose 5-10lbs at the most. If I can do that, I would be ridiculously happy.

My FI is a little shorter than... He says he's 6'0, but when I stand up straight (which is very rarely), I'm definitely more than an inch taller than him. He says I keep growing, which may be true since my feet grew a size in the last year. I'm too embarassed to measure myself, I don't want to be any taller.
