The LIW Small Talk Thread

Cali: The "good dates" are based on me and my FI's b-day and birth time (which hour). My mom is hoping to get my FI's information by the end of this week. Then, my mom will called the guy to make an appointment. The "good dates" are according to the Chinese lunar calendar. We'll tell them which months we are planning to get married. Then, the guy will tell us 3 days (BEST, GOOD, WORST). Something like that. I don't know much about stuff like this. My mom asked her friends about it. I'm sure your date will be good no matter what. I think this is just a peace of mind for Chinese people. My dad doesn't really believe in it. He said it's a tradition to pick a GOOD date for a wedding. I'm glad my FI gave in.
 
BG - I want to hear these lucky dates too! Is there a way to figure them out on your own? I want to see what mine would be.

Cali - I think that's awesome that you found the 24hr and it's nice that you have a few real close. There's several in the Seattle area, but with traffic and parking, only one is that convenient for me to go to. It's in a poorer area of town too so you get some interesting characters in there. The one nice thing that I've found about 24hr is most of the people that go aren't hardcore athletes since they like to go to the really expensive specialty gyms in the area, so you don't have all pros doing the classes. If you want to burn calories definately check out the spin class. There's not much you can do to screw up in that class, unless you don't know how to pedal on a bicycle. I was also expecting to hear you say your FI was going to be super tall. I don't know why you don't like being so tall though, the only downside I can think of is not being able to wear some designer shoes now since platform is all the rage. (Well I guess you could but FI probably doesn't want to too much taller!)

I can't wait until the weekend, even though it was a short work week it still seemed so long!
 
You guys are funny. Everyone seems to be so interested now. heehee. I actually did some googling. You have to know your Chinese Zodiac in order to really read into the chong evil column. It just says the date is bad for a specific Chinese Zodiac . I guess if you or your FI is one of those chinese animal sign, you shouldn't pick that day. I guess it's kinda interesting. If you guys don't know your chinese zodiac, I can help. :lol:

if you want to be VERY VERY specific, you'll have to find someone to look it up for you based on you and your FI's b-day and birth time. My parents want that... I told my friends about it. One of them said... "what if the guy said you guys are not meant to be together according to your birthday and birth time?" I asked my mom about it. She said he won't say that unless you ask him to see if we're compatible. Scared me for awhile. :lol:
 
Seattle - my FI did a spin class at the 24hr where we used to live and he said it was awful! He's in far better shape than me and he almost died, so I don't think I'm cut out for it. I think you're more fit than you let on or you just don't realize how awesome you are at working out. Either way, if you love spin, props to you for surviving!

I always said I would never date someone shorter than me, but you can't help who you're compatible with. I always tease my FI about being a midget, but he's by far the tallest in his family. I tower over his mom, who's 5'1. But you're right - I don't wear heels with him and I really can't buy any designer shoes, but that's mainly due to my huge feet. The size 12 Louboutins are too small for me, but I have some Pradas and Diors that I can squeeze into. But they're flats all the way!

Because shoes hate me, I have the biggest handbag addition. It's the bane of my FI's existence, bwahahaha.
 
BG - I think the tradition of picking good dates is really interesting! Obviously I knew nothing about it, but it doesn't seem like it does any harm to have a little extra good karma on your big day. And if it makes your parents happy, even better. I can't wait to hear what dates the guy comes up, hopefully he has a good one that you guys also like. I looked on that website you linked to and my wedding date isn't auspicious, boo!

Now I'm curious if it's bad, but I don't think I want to know because I can't change it!
 
Think of it this way. It is just a peace of mind. Maybe it only applies to Chinese people. :lol: Don't think your day is bad. This is all supersitious. When is your wedding date?
 
I think it's impossible to have a bad day in Bora Bora in July, so I'm sure it will be fine. We're going to have our ceremony on 7/25/11, which was my second choice for a date. First choice was 7/15/11, but we couldn't get on the right flight for it. I think I'm going to contact the Four Seasons this weekend and book our bungalow. I hate booking stuff, I'm always worried I'm going to mess up for some reason.

Are you excited that your ring is getting fixed? I know you miss it, and who wouldn't (you'd have to kill me to get the ring off my finger), but you must be looking forward to getting to wear it permanently without pain!
 
I'm VERY excited about my ring. However, I keep on thinking... what if it doesn't fit me right again? I'm just thinking too much. Oh well, I know it will be worth the wait. *cross my finger*

BG - awesome, you should be excited. It'll be like getting it anew and who wouldn't love getting an amazing e-ring twice! How much bigger did you end up going?

Jessie - the house is bueno, thanks for asking! This is our first time not in a condo and we are both loving it. Today I actually got a cool rug for FI's office/my lounge, now we just need to get moving on hooking up the rest of our TVs (we've only done the wiring for one so far since we're both lazy).

How were your classes today? Got any fun plans for tonight?
 
O good. It must be nice to ahve a house now compared to a Condo. You gotta finish wiring everything so you can watch TV in all your rooms.

School was okay, i so gotta study for my exam next week, and pick up a scan-tron for the exam. Im hoping the student union has some for free, i dont want to buy some. I actually dont have any fun plans for tonight. Just studying and the gym, than cuddling with C tonight. Tommorow is homework day and studying, and than tommorow night we are going out for drinks with friends, and possible bands
 
Well at least you have some fun planned for the weekend, it will give you a nice break from studying. Have a good workout tonight and try to get a lot of studying done so you can really relax tomorrow night.

I definitely need my TVs hooked up, this is going to be an amazing football weekend. I can't wait! Tonight we're going to dinner with some friends so I've gotta go get ready. Catch ya later.

Cali: from 4.25 to 4.5. I have a 4.75 ring. It is quite loose sometimes, always slip to the finger joint. (even in the winter time) I guess that would be too loose.
 
I bet the 1/4 size will be perfect since you could get the ring on with a little force. A 1/2 size probably would have been too much and in the winter it could have been sliding off. What's the estimated arrival date?

Isn't it crazy how hard it is to figure out ring size? I went so far as to buy some digital calipers to measure the insides of rings so I could make a best guess. That stuff should be standardized, such a pain.

Yes! The jeweller agrees that 1/2 might be too loose. Winter is not even here yet. He said it will take 10 business days. It should arrive on the 3rd of September the LATEST!

I know. How hard is it to get the right size? Actually, 4.5 is my perfect size. I got my finger sized at different stores and they all say I'm a 4.5. This jeweller said I should go down 1/4 size to avoid spinning. I regret listening to him. I don't mind some spinning as long as I can put it on/off without great force.
 
So how was everyone's weekend?

Beezy - you mentioned that your ring should be here by the 3rd at the latest, did you mean 13th? And did you get it yet??

So I just received some very very good news for a Monday morning when I got in at work today. I went to a picnic our work hosted this past Saturday and they do these raffles for employees and their SO's/family members as well as an employee only raffle too. Well I had to leave early since I was meeting a friend for pedis and happy hour and when I came in this morning I learned I had won a 42in flat TV! Woo hoo, me the girl with basic cable only! haha. We definately need one though, I only have a little 30in 200lb old school tv in the house right now so this will be a huge upgrade. I'm just hoping BF won't insist we upgrade to all the expensive channels now because of it. I also got my vacation approved for the days between Xmas and New Years so it'll be nice to have such a hugh chunk off.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Congrats on the tv Seattle! I'm so bummed that we can't get all the channels you hate. We move to CO and end up with crappy comcast and now I can't get NFL Sunday Ticket anymore. I was so sad all weekend, we get all the crappy games. However, about 2 mins ago I won my fantasy game of the week. Yay!

So BG, this is the 3rd week of Sept. When's the ring arriving?

And I just want to say I hate Delta Airlines. :angryfire:
 
hmm.. I always think the 3rd week of Sept is next week. I guess it depends if you include the first half week. Oh well. I have been thinking about my ring everyday. If I'm anxious about the ring, it will (feels) longer to arrive. Yesterday, I kept on telling myself I don't care about the ring. Hopefully, it will arrive sooner. My theory is weird, I know.

I'm sorry about the airline. Where are you guys going to elope again?
 
Just think, once you have your ring you're never going to have to take it off again! Slg just started a thread about how inaccurate ring sizing is, so you're definitely not alone in going through this. But aren't you glad you got it taken care of sooner rather than later? Now you get to go to all your wedding planning appointments with your beautiful, comfortable ring on. :)

We're eloping in Bora Bora, but that's not the trip Delta screwed up on (thank god). We're going to NY in Dec for a little ambiance and to visit Leon, but Delta is so friggin frustrating. At the moment, only FI has a ticket and I have to wait a couple days before I can get mine, so THANK YOU delta. Hate them!

That's weird your FI has a ticket but you don't. How is that even possible? I am sorry about that. I hope everything will turn out fine. We are waiting for bc ferry to call us back about the price of a package. We are going to visit the island for our thanksgiving. I am so excited. This time, I will wear my ring. Argh, I miss my ring. How is your ring doing? How are you cleaning it?
 
I understand how you feel, it's stressful waiting for such an important item. But it won't be much longer and you know they're going to do a good job. Just be sure to inspect it carefully once you get it back and then you'll have nothing to worry about.

The ring is good, but I play with it too much. I also kept leaving it around the house, so I bought this pretty waterford crystal ring holder. For cleaning, I've tried rubbing alcohol and compressed air, and I've also done simple dish soap. I don't think either make it super clean, but I'm probably doing it wrong. :knockout:

Any other ideas/suggestions for cleaning?

I don't know anything about BC... what island are you visiting and what kind of stuff can you do there?
 
I will inspect It carefully. I need to look at the laser inscription. You can never be too careful. I have been day dreaming about my ring, like when I was waiting for the proposal. I kept on looking at my left hand. ::) Remember my knuckle of my finger has a blister because of the ring? Well, the dead skin is peeling off. It is a good sign. New smooth skin is growing. Yeah. I think a streamer is the best way to clean it. I don't know if it is safe for your ring because of the gem stones. I should buy one on eBay soon, like tomorrow.

Morning Ladies....Sorry i ddint check in yesturday, but was super busy studying and spending time with C. We had an okay weekend, we went out saturday night, after i hit the gym for 3 hours. Was so sore, still sore actaully. O, i twisted my ankle while we were out, walking uphill on cobble stone in 4 inch Heels isnt such a good idea. Sunday we watch the game at a local bar( its a maimi dolphin bar, and they have such yummy chicken wings) and MIAMI WON!!!! :wavey: . Yesturday was my study day, but we did get up early and went had breakfast at a little local casino. Luckily we got there when they were putting out lunch so we stayed and talked for awhile.We walked around the casino for a bit, and looked at their pool, and stuff. While there, C actually bought me a cute RHR that matches his ring, which was his fathers. He was stuck between the ring he got and a dolphin ring. Other than that its been quiet.

Bg- i wonder if your ring will come in the middle of the week or more towards the end. If i were you, i would be so jumpy i couldnt sit still.

SC- congrats on the TV. Goodness, that is so awesome. Now you gotta watch everything in like HD. LoL...Was it difficult to set it up?

Cali- I am so sorry about Delta losing your ticket. Thats just crazy, like whats the point of buying just one ticket? Hopefully they get it to you soon.
 
BG - that looks like such a relaxing and beautiful place! Love the oceanfront hotel and all the trees. When do you find out if you can go there?

Yeah, definitely can't use a steam cleaner on my ring. :( However, I seem to get it really dirty and even if I could steam it, I'd probably have to do it everyday. And I know I wouldn't put that much effort in, so I'm not too worried about it.

It has been really slow around the site, maybe everyone just got busy with the start of school?

Yes, i have an exam this week, and than next week i ahve 2 exams along with an Essay is due. Im kinda of freaking out, like this weekend im gonna have to workout and study at the same time. LoL. ....not fun.

HeHe, my new ring wasnt expensive, just a cheap little ring. Its a double horse shoe, one of the horse shoe is a gold and the other horse shoe is white gold with little CZ gems in it. It matches closely to his fathers, his fathers is a gold horse shoe with diamonds in it.

How romantic is that. :love: I'm hoping my ring would be here by the end of this week because I'm having a small family dinner this Sat and probably my FI's b-day dinner next Monday. It would be good to have my ring by then. However, I don't think I'll get it until next week. According to the 10 business day timeline, it should be done next Monday. It probably takes another day or 2 for it to get to the store. I'm saying mid next week. :knockout: Oh well.

Cali: We are booking our thanksgiving trip RIGHT NOW! We got the quote from bc ferry. My FI is calling them to book it RIGHT this second. YEAH! Romantic getaway! At first, I kinda wanna go to Las Vegas. However, I've be stated out. :lol: Been to the states many times this year. I thought it would be nice for use to explore the island here.

BTW, we made an appointment with the guy who will pick our wedding dates tomorrow. I'm SOOOOOOOOO excited. :love: We can FINALLY start planning right after. By that time, I'll have my ring. Cali, you are right, I get to wear my e-ring comfortably to all the wedding related appointment. :love:

We got engaged exactly 1 month ago. :love:

Bg- Awwww, well ill keep hoping your ring comes back sooner than Like next tuesday, But you do get to wear it during all the imporant wedding planning things. Im so glad you are planning now, i get to live through your planning right now :D . Also, a Romantic trip will be nice for thanksgiving break. That should be so romantic. C and i were going to try to do a trip to see his Aunt and Uncle during Thanksgiving or go back to Florida, but with me losing my job, and him not knowing about his, because it so bad here, all trips are being put on hold. :( .
