The LIW Small Talk Thread

Well, i dont know how to post better pics, do you have any tips on how to take better pics? I could use them.

Is that a cell phone or digital camera? If it's a digital camera, put it on the macro mode for close up's (symbol looks like a flower). I would also put the rings in a bright room but turn the flash off so it doesn't reflect. You can also put it on the timer mode and set the camera down so you don't move it when you're holding it. Hopefully that might help?

Thanks Sc, i havent been able to firgure it out, ill try that on saturday, that way i can get mine and C's ring together. I promise to post on saturday. How u Sc?

Doing alright. About to go to bed, just need to catch the end of Criminal Minds. This show always gets me hooked. This week seems to be going by really slow though, which is disappointing. I'm looking forward to this Friday though, since it'll be girls night, and I just found out that one of my friends just broke up with her bf of a lonnngg time (6-7 yrs?). It sucks though, since they just moved out of her mom's place into a townhouse in July...and I think the lease is a year long. I'm sure lots of drinks will be involved though - luckily I'm close to downtown so we can have as much fun as we want and cab it back.

O good about being close to downtown. Im not close at all....but I DONT DRINK AND DRIVE...lol...SO does...lol.....i know bad. Im sorry about your friend. Please be safe this weekend.. Im up talking to my SO right now.....he makes me laugh all the time.....*sigh* i love him

Sweet :D My SO doesn't do too well with staying up late, but he usually wakes up around 6am to go to work as well.

Well the show is over, which means it's off to bed for me. Have a good night!

 wow. You picture is so clear... HD! I can totally see it. Come on Jessie! You can do better than that!

I just drove my dad to the airport tonight. I hope my ring will come today.

Ill have no In-laws expect for an aunt and uncle, so im sorry ladies, i dont know anything to tell you expect for Grin and Smile, and nod

Isn't it wonderful?!

Just kidding.... sort of.

I really won't have any ILs either. FI hasn't had any contact with his family other than his mother for a looooonngg time and the last time he talked to her was probably a year ago. (they only ever talked a couple of times a year anyway)
If he wanted to continue a relationship with his mother, I'd have to smile and stock up on the chocolate reserves :knockout:
I met her once (she called and told him to drive to CA so he could help her move a couple of blocks to a new house  . We were there for just a few days and it was AWFUL --- "You're the best one he's brought home so far" etc)

SC --- :wavey:
I wondered where you went. I got sick and came back and you were missing ;(

OOooooo!!!!!! A bridal show in January!
I'm watching for the BIG dress sale too -- you know the one where people stand in line for hours and sometimes get injured?

LIW is a great place to stick around. I love the ST here since I can post little things that I don't really want to start a whole thread for. Besides... you ladies here are wonderful, honest, sympathetic, helpful...
BIW is nice too. I mean, everyone there knows so much about stuff I'm just starting to think about. Great resource for getting and sharing information but I always feel strange starting a thread -- almost like is it worth a thread? . And I go back and forth between options sometimes and don't want to start a thread each time I change my mind.
The LIW ladies are great to "talk" stuff out with and go back and forth between things.

I love talking to you ladies here. I just love coming to the LIW. You ladies have seen my progress from being a LIW to a BIW. How cool is that? The only difference is I don't really check the other threads in here expect this small chat thread. My FI was like, is it because the LiWs remind you of how childish you were when you were. HEY!!! That's so mean!

A bridal show... Sigh. At first, I convinced my FI to go with me. However, after seeing the exhibitors on the site, he doesn't think we need to go anymore. Nothing interesting. Sigh. I guess. Now, we are researching a venue for our banquet. We are thinking of having it at a golf course or at a hotel. At first, we were thinking of having it at a Chinese restaurant (normal tradition). Since the banquet in hk is in a chinese restaurant, it would be cool to have a western banquet here.

Too: getting better today? Did you miss any work?

Mornin Ladies! :wavey:

I just got back from yoga and it is growing on me more and more. I hate the wednesday instructor, but thankfully next wed. is her last class.

Hey, SC you're back! Thanks for the input on Bora Bora. After reading all the comments and Jessie's explanation, I'm 95% sure I'm going with the Four Seasons. I doubt there will be another wedding on a Monday, so I think I can actually go there and make a final decision between the grove and the main beach. I don't know if I could pick now, everyone has convinced me that both are great!

Jessie - that picture is completely unacceptable, please try again. :D

BG - once a year doesn't sound too bad. I'm hoping to keep my in-law visits to 2-3x per year, but who knows what they'll do. FMIL wants to come here and go skiing all the time, so that might be good for a laugh, but I can't handle too much. I'd go nuts like them...

And that would be fun to have a more western banquet here since you're having the traditional one in hk. You mentioned a golf course, is it near the garden?

How are you feeling today Too?

And I have to add that I am jealous of the girls that get to go to bridal shows. They sound like so much fun, but it's completely unnecessary for me. :(

I was actually doing a little more wedding dress research last night and I found out something kind of sucky. Most dresses are made for a max height of 5'10. So I either have to find a designer who makes "tall" dresses or get one made by a seamstress. I feel like that is so limiting, I was totally bummed out. I also don't want to spend too much since no one will ever see the dress, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I told FI and his response was - why would you wear a wedding dress. Grrrr, boys just don't understand.

LoL...ill try again ladies, I promise, ill do it saturday so i can get a picutre of his with mine, its a pretty cool combo.

I totally love talking to you ladies. Its nice to have someone to vent things out to, espically when it comes to waiting for sparklies.

Cali- sounds good about your yoga class. I have a platies class and i HATE the weekend day instructors, but love the weekend one.

Bg- hopefully your ring comes to day. I would so miss mine, your doing better than me.

Too- how you feeling today?

Sorry about the dress issue cali, im sure you can find something made by a designer for taller woman. I want to go to the bridal show here in Jan, hopefully ill have my sparkly by than and i can go. They have A LOT of venders, great gifts, and its just fun.

Cali: your FI is funny! You tell him loud and proud, "WHY NOT A WEDDING DRESS?" then you give him a hard long stare.
I don't think the banquet will be near the garden. We are still researching. We don't know yet. My FI doesn't think we need to go to the bridal show because all the exhibitors are listed online with their websites. guys! I am just 5'3, that means my dress need to be shorten then. What kinda of wedding dress are you looking for? I am thinking of you wearing something light for the beach. Pretty!

I need dust ladies. I want my ring to arrive today so that i can go with my FI to pick it up. Dust!

BG- ill have to have a dress shorten too, im at 5'2.....but i will wear heels...i love heels.

Western banquet sounds like fun. Then you can have one of each!
Ooohh -- golf course would be pretty. But some hotels are pretty amazing too.... hmmm....
Pictures???

I'm at work and surviving. Missed all of last week. Since I took Thurs/Fri as vacation days and called in sick the entire next week (total of 11 days at home) and the one guy is on vacation (again  ) I felt I HAD to come back on Monday. I've been miserable but here. The lousy part is that I'm a "contractor" so I technically don't have any sick days.... depending on the mood of the two guys here, I either have to make the time up (which sucks because I've got classes/homework to do), have the time deducted from my pay, or "don't worry about it -- we all get sick. It evens out in the end."
So missing work isn't something I do lightly. :knockout:

O that sucks Too. I am so sorry, its not like you plan on "being sick"

Bg- are there any other gardens close to that location to have the reception at, or possible a national park....Hotels are nice, but you could keep with the outdoor theme, and the theme of the wedding could be " A garden Party" or " A Magical Day Outdoors"....which could give you a lot of playing room with deceorations, and colours.

True.
And the sooner you accept it the less stress you'll have to worry about :))

Just wait until the "Huh? Why do we need flowers anyway?" and "Why do we have to have favors? I mean we're already paying for a nice meal." and "You want to dance?!?!!" and "Why do we have to feed people? Can't they just eat before they come?"

****Dust**** that your ring arrives today BG!

BG and Jessie - look on the bright side, it is a heck of a lot easier to take away fabric than add it. I think the dress is my second favorite part of getting married, so I've been thinking about it a bit. I want something that shows off my figure but isn't too dressy, so I was thinking a lace mermaid style dress. Of course it could look absolutely hideous on me, but that's what I'm thinking about now.

BG - I'm sure there are ton of great hotels near you, that will be a lot of fun to research and check those out. A golf course would be really cool too since that would tie in to your outdoor ceremony and probably also have flowers around.

Sorry that you have to work when you're still sick Too. I hope they're sympathetic about you being sick and don't dock your pay. Seriously, everyone gets sick and it's not your fault.

Thank god I don't have to deal with that. FI would be saying those exact things. I already told him I want a bouquet and wedding cake and I got the "why?" look. I'm getting better at just ignoring him and doing what I want. Oh wait, I've always been good at that.

After my last post I figure I should mention that FI has come a long way since then. He seemed rather shocked at all of the stuff to do but I've showed him different things and now we seem to have the same picture in mind. (I think when I said "favor" he imagined a gift for each guest and was figuring $50+ per person..... so... yeah... making sure we're both speaking the same language has been a big help)

BG --- hope your ring comes today. Any way to verify that they've shipped it already?

Tough balancing act there...

Gotta make it special for him too but..... well..... guys

I seriously think that men and women speak two different languages. Just got to learn each other's vocabulary.
(funny thing here is that FI and I can be debating something and I'll want one thing and him another and we finally get frustrated and go to the computers to show each other pictures of what we each want -- and we each come up with a picture of the same thing  )

 ....C and i do the same thing, expect it will be like a location or something.

It seems like my FI is pretty good with planning the wedding. He isn't shocked with all the stuff I tell him yet. I am trying to find places that are good, beautiful and cheap, just like the venue for our garden ceremony  . That's why I have been comparing the venues and stuff. That's a lot of work. I found a nice golf course and a casino. I will do more research and post pictures if I can find any.

Cali: I dunno if my ring is shipped yet. All I know is it will be in by the 3rd week of sept the latest.I keep staring at my cell.

Too - I think the big show in Jan is over at Qwest Field. I went to one in Tacoma last year since my friend was getting married but I didn't really pay attention to anything for myself. There's lot of events going on though, including a couple that are just coming up here in Seattle...October I think. I can see if I can find which ones they are if you're interested! I hear about a lot of the events, not just because I'm crazy, but a good friend of mine is a baker and she does stuff for weddings so I see her posts on FB a lot. When is the crazy dress sale and where does it usually happen? I always wanted to go to one of those since I think I can hold my own in a crowd. :D

Cali - Don't be jealous, you should go to the wedding shows! It's not like you're required to sign up for things, just go for the cake samples! lol And why would you dare say a lace mermaid dress would look bad on you?? The only reason half the wedding dresses look good in magazines is because they're on really tall models! I would think you'd be lucky to be on the taller side. The other thing is that you might be able to find a dress on sale, since your height isn't as common so if a store decided to order in something on the long side I'd bet it'd sit on the rack longer. If you're a common height/size, it's a lot harder to find stuff on sale because the competition is much worse. At least that's the way I think of it. Btw, next time FI asks why, just say "why do you need to get laid after the wedding, we have the rest of our lives to do it" and see what he says. *because I want to* should be a good answer for all further silly questions about the wedding

I'm getting impatient for this ring!! I can't imagine how on earth you're handling it!!

Can I vent for a second? I don't want to take the convo off track, so no need to respond.

I just had a breakdown. For the past 2 weeks I've been trying to live with slight imperfection and I've been driving myself mad. So when FI proposed, he brought a camera and we took some pics in the garden. When we looked at the pics, it was obvious to me that two of my veneers photograph a shade of yellow, even though they all appear to be almost the same white in person. When we took pics at our dinner later that night, I could still see the difference in the same 2 (and these are 2 that I already had re-done once). Every day now for 2 weeks I've had to say to myself that no one can tell, that I can't have them done a third time, and that I need to stop being crazy.

However, I can't stop looking in mirrors and staring at them. I'm as insecure about my teeth now as I was before I got all this work done. I made a horrible mistake changing those 2, but most of the blame lies with dentist since he knew these were not what I wanted and still put them on. I can't get over the regret.

I'm going to find a new dentist and try to rectify the problem. FI is supportive but thinks it's unnecessary. I'm so miserable right now.

SC -- I really know nothing about the local shows. I've spent the last 5 years trying REALLY hard not to notice anything about this stuff so I wouldn't wind up in tears  and now that the time has come to start looking and planning I'm kind of lost. Plus I don't really have any IRL women friends and my family is even more lost than I am.

I'd love to meet different vendors, get coupons, try samples and stuff. I'm not very interested in fashion shows since what matters is how the different styles look on MY body not some 5'10" 130lb Dcup model -- I'd rather find my dress by seeing them on my own body.

No clue when or where the BIG dress sale is. I've seen about it on the news occassionally as there are SOOOoo many women in line and the prices are SUPER LOW. It looks pretty stampede like.
I'd love to know when & where so I can have a wad of cash available (or debit if they take it) and grab a dress or three  . My strategy is to get a move on losing weight, try on a bunch of dresses at other places, know what I'm after, and then make my grandma proud :halo: (my grandma who died of cancer was an awesome shopper -- she could elbow her way in front of people, snatch the last of what she wanted, and even managed to buy the store's not-for-sale decorations.......)

Awwww.... Cali ;(

Find a new dentist and see what he can do. Maybe there is a way to correct the color without re-doing them.

Do we have a track to get knocked off?
