The LIW Small Talk Thread

Well her family( Not My Side) is very strict and devout Catholics, and i think they are going away to College together and want to live together, and love each other so thats the rush there. Everyone is thinking maybe she is pregnant, and maybe she is, and just not telling anyone, but i think its the moving part. I told C this morning, and just went kind of quiet, and he did too. I didnt want to bring it up, when i think money is the issue, but it still hurts. Im trying to be a patient as possible, i really am. *Sigh* Maybe i need that book, why Men marry bitches  :?

Could be.

Yeah, it hurts. And there's nothing anyone can say to make it not hurt.

The sad thing is that even AFTER you're engaged stuff like this still hurts -- friends getting engaged after but married before, friends/family planning a wedding right near yours, financial problems, family drama.......
(There are days I wish we were still bf/gf so I wouldn't have to deal with the misery of wedding related stuff. )

You ever notice how life just sucks some days?

But you make it through.

I'm going with my gfs at around 7:30pm. Then we'll have dinner after. This is so exciting!!!

Hi everyone,

Took a little hiatus after the funeral since I wasn't in the mood to post that much since sometimes it feels to hard to be a LIW when you're just ready already. Plus one of the girls from work just got engaged a couple of days ago so that leaves one less person I know that's in the "just dating" stage. Plus since they were dating over a year less than my bf and I have, it's that much worse...so I know how it sucks to wait and wait and wait. I told SO how she got engaged and he made a comment about "oh after 6 years" and I told him, no way, only 2 and he shut up real quick. Foot in mouth right there. Yesterday I mentioned to him how it was hard to watch everyone be engaged around us. Years ago it was people that were dating around the same amount or even longer...now it's people in general. Everyone that's been dating longer than us are already engaged and I think we only really know less than a handful of couples that are even dating and not married - all for less than SO and I have been together.

Plus I started my diet on Tuesday, so I'm even more grumpy. On a happy note, starting my diet (well the first 2 days you're supposed to eat as much as you can to "load up") I gained 2lbs doing that, but this morning I was down 2lbs from my recent low point...so 5 lbs total in 2 days. It's funny how you look forward to 10lb increments though, like you get into a whole new stage of weight. If this keeps going, I'm hoping by tomorrow or the next day I'll be to my next stage, which I haven't been to since last year for my friends wedding (yay)

Too - you don't happen to have a windows mobile phone do you? My SO had a previous model where it kept locking up too, so I wondered if it was the same or similar.

BG - sneak in some pictures!!

Got a little break so I thought I'd stop by. :wavey:

Oh Jessie, I'm sorry you're feeling so anxious about getting engaged. I know that nothing anyone can say will make you feel better, but you just have to trust that it will happen at the right time. Everyone is on a different timeline and you just can't compare your relationship to others. You know that you and C are great together, so just try to focus on all the things he does that make you love him so much.

BG - woooot! That sounds like a great deal for your banquet. And I have to say, how the heck is it getting cold near you but we're still warm in CO? It's friggin 80 today. I'm ready for fall and sweaters!

Too - I'm so sorry that your wedding planning is not going as you'd hoped. Just try to stay positive and remember that you're marrying your dear FI, and that's all that matters in the end.

After a crazy week here, I've decided that I need a fun day. For the first time, I'm going to try on wedding dresses tomorrow. I'm actually nervous since I hate being on the spot to say if I like or dislike. Anyone know if you're supposed to wear anything particular when you go (as in, undergarments). I'm so clueless about some things.

Hi SC --
Glad you're back. Funerals + engagements (not yours) + diet = miserable. I'm sorry things have been tough for you lately. We're always here to listen.

Yep.... Windows mobile. It does lock itself so I don't push buttons so that is okay (except the occassional freezing up entirely and having to re-set everything in the phone...). It seems to have a problem physically. If I talk on it for more than 3 minutes it starts to get hot (really warm and you can feel it getting hotter) and then drops the call.
Maybe a faulty battery?

Cali --

You don't have to worry about having the "right" undergarments as you'll have to get those to go with the dress you choose. Some great advice I've seen is:

- Don't wear a thong (or other skimpy stuff) as you may not have much privacy
- Don't wear black undergarments (really shows under the white stuff)

Some places may not exactly give you a super private area so you may have your undergarments showing to sales people or even others in the store. Also, you want to wear stuff that won't show through or that you won't mind in pictures that you take (like bra straps).

Mostly, just have fun. Wear something you'll be comfortable in.

Cali: I guess I can't say it's COLD here. It's colder than before. It's weird. Last week, it was like hotter than summer. This week, it's cool. I guess right now, it's JUST RIGHT. You will have a lot of fun trying on wedding dresses tomorrow. At first I was worried about what undergarment to wear. I decided to wear a strapless bra and a nice fitting panty (no granny panty. That would be embarrassing when the sale girl helps you tighten your dress ). For me, the girl stepped outside the room when I'm "climbing" into the dress. Then, when I'm ready, she'll help me tighten it with pins/clips. Strapless bra FOR SURE! I'm sure you'll feel like a princess when you're trying on dresses. I felt like one for sure.

Too: WINDOW MOBILE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a Samsung Omnia with window mobile 6.1 It SUCKS! It's very slow too. I have it for 3 years already. Lately, I have problem picking up and hanging up. WEIRD! My next phone will be an andriod phone.

See, this is exactly why I need advice. I guess I didn't even consider NOT having privacy, so everyone would have seen my tuckus if I hadn't asked.

Thanks Too!

Oh, I just saw your post BG. Thanks as well, I'll definitely be sure to wear strapless!

Hopefulyl I'll find some good ones. Yay, now I'm excited!

OMG too. Please get it fix like RIGHT NOW! There are news in HK saying how the phone get sooooooooooooo hot it exploded on the person's hand or face while talking on the phone. The person got bad burn all over their face. I'm not joking. This is serious stuff. Maybe the battery is from some cheap Chinese company.

Yes... so... wear strapless bra, no thong, no granny panty. pick white/nude colour. You will be fine! oh.. maybe shave too? I did shaved my legs before going in. Just in case. You know!

Thanks Cali, Thanks Too, i went to school and had less time to dwell on it.

Cali, have fun tryingon dresses, i bet its so much fun

Hey Ladies! :wavey:

Don't know if anyone is around today, but I just got home from trying on dresses. All I can say is it was way more fun than I thought it would be. I had a very friendly, knowledgeable consultant and we had a great time. The boutique didn't have a ton of dress options for me since most were more traditional, but I still got to see about 8-9 on me that were all good options on the hanger.

In the end, I really liked one and loooooved another. However, the one I loved has a few little concerns attached to it, which I'll point out after the link.

Here is the dress I really liked:

http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?pageSize=100&style=J1371

Pluses: for a chiffon dress, it is very fitted. I really want to show off my slim figure, so I definitely want a dress that hugs my body. Many chiffon dresses have empire waists that flare out, so you don't get the effect I want. This one had boning the clung, so liked that. I also tried it with a chiffon belt and that made it look a lot better. I definitely want a belt to define my waistline and this one worked with it.

Minus: I don't like all the flowers at the top, but the consultant said they could remove some so it has a more ruffled effect. I just worry about changing a dress so much and then it still not being what a want, so that's a definite concern.

My faaaaaavorite:

This one looked amazing on me. Seriously, I looked better than this model (haha, I'm so modest). I would change the neckline to a sweetheart and remove the broach from the sash to dress it down a little.

However, there is beading that isn't toooo visible, but it's still there. Definitely not something I wanted since it dresses it up a bit. Also, FI says that a lace dress makes me look old. Before I even showed him the picture of me in it, he said he hated it. I think he just hates lace, but it's something to consider.

Anyone think this dress is too dressy for a beach wedding? Please be honest. FI will only be wearing khakis and linen shirt...

Duh, it might help if I, you know, post pictures of me actually in the dresses. These were taken with my little ole blackberry, so not the best quality.

First, here is the chiffon one. Only one pic has a belt (and it's satin), but I would definitely do a chiffon belt so it looks like it's a part of the dress.

And here is the lace one. Again, no broach on the belt and I would do a sweetheart, which I am holding the dress into.

Hi ladies. I'm in Ucluelet. The resort is very very relaxing and nice here. Our room has a full view of the ocean.

I just thought I'll come in and say hi then I saw Cali's lovely pictures. You look BEAUTIFUL!!! I love the lace one on you. Anyways, I should go now. My FI is asking me "what are you doing... typing so much." We are supposed to be googling for information. Talk to you girls on Monday.

You look very HOT in both dresses Cali  :appl: !

Bg, have a good trip.....it sounds and looked so nice.

Cali- I love both dresses, but for a beach wedding i like the flowly one with the flowers, and oddly, i think the flowers add something to it. The Lace was in pretty but i think for a more traditional wedding

Thanks for the compliments BG and Jessie! I'm going to try on more chiffon dresses since I'm not in love with that one, but I just can't stop thinking about the lace one. It is a bit heavy, but I don't know if I would be happy in a chiffon dress that didn't show off my body as much as I want.

Do you think this dress looks any more casual/beachy?

It might just be me, but lace is more traditional in my head, and chiffon is more beachy espically since its more flowly. The dress you just posted is pretty and i like the antique look of it, but personally i dont know if right for a beach wedding, but than again it also depends on the feel of the wedding.

Jessie - I had the same initial thoughts. However, in one of the LIW "what dress do you like" threads, I asked about that and tons of people said lace was fine for a beach wedding. They were thinking of it as more romantic than traditional, and I guess they swayed me a bit. Thanks for your thoughts, I need to think about this more.

What are you up to today? I just got home from watching college football and drinking all morning/afternoon, I think I need a nap.

Many Welcomes, just my personal thought on the dress, that what i get. Umm not much, went to a organic shop and a local bakery and got a cookie for free. It was super good, now im just relaxing, Aunt Flo came today and its killing me too

ladies... today sucks! It's POURING rain ALL day today. We drove up to Tofino. It's a surf town. It's so rainy we couldn't do any hiking. Nothing to look at there. It's so foggy. We spent our time walking around grocery stores. Then, we thought we'll have an early dinner and come back to the hotel, shower, cuddle while watching tv and the wave.... the room is not made yet! OMG. One teenage boy is cleaning our room now. It's his first time doing that, so he'll take 45 min. My FI is not very pleased with that. I just want to take a hot shower then cuddle with my hunnie. We have been in the rain all day. Even with the umbrella, we were still wet. *sigh*

Tomorrow will be sunny. We'll do some hiking. Then we'll go back home.

I hate to jump in on the conversation out of nowhere but I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents for cali's dress options. I've been to quite a few beach weddings and honestly both options, lace or chiffon, would be beautiful. As long as they aren't too poofy they'll fit right in for a beach wedding. As long as you feel beautiful that's what matters and that's the only thing anyone will notice. I've seen lots of different styles of dresses on the beach and each one fit the theme in it's own way. Good luck and I can't wait to see more pics!

Aw Jessie, I'm sorry you weren't feeling good yesterday. I hate that time, I'm always super grumpy and annoyed with everyone. I hope today is better for you!

What a bummer about your trip BG. Hopefully the weather will be nicer today and you guys can get to do some outdoor activities! If not, just enjoy your time away with FI and get in lots of quality time together. I know you were really looking forward to this trip, so try to make the best of it.

Thanks for the input Grlsbestfrnd! I think it will be easy for the dress to fit my "theme" since I don't have a theme, haha. It's just going to be the two of us in a beachfront grove and then some other pictures right on the beach. I think because I keep thinking of ways to rationalize the lace that that is the way I want to go. But I've got plenty more dress appointments in my future, just to be sure. :naughty:

Been a busy last couple of days and I'm about to hit the sack but wanted to put in my 2c as well for Cali!

I personally love the lace one, and even like the bling that's on it as well. Whenever I think of a beach wedding, I just think of a dress that flows vs something really structured like a princess type dress so I don't see why it wouldn't work. I wasn't loving the first dress that much because it didn't shout "wedding" to me.

Well hope everyone had a good weekend, hope to catch up more on Monday!

This is about what my exhausted-Monday-brain was trying to find :cheeky:

Cali -- All of the dresses were beautiful. I loved the look of the chiffon but the shape of a couple of the lace dresses was just  . I don't think you can go wrong with either material. Just keep looking until you find YOUR dress.

I'm SOOooooo glad it is Monday.
I just had an awful weekend.

Started Friday morning when one of the headlights went out. Cost $100 for a new one + installation (and installation is NOT optional in this car... :nono: ). Of course they were out of the ones I needed so they had to order from the warehouse and have me come back in 2 hours. Okay.... (groceries, drop off at home, head back)
While they installed the light (took about an hour) I figured I needed a good laugh and maybe I'd be shocked at the quality (who can mess up a basic gold wedding band anyway???) so I wandered over to (gasp) Sears  to look at wedding bands. (not to buy, just to get ideas for style and stuff). The woman ignored me (good move) to finish selling a diamond bracelet to a clueless woman. When she finally came over I was SHOCKED at the quality (and not good shocked) of even their "best" ring. The woman actually asked my my price range and said "I can do better than that!"..... Yeah..... After showing me her "best" ring she finally noticed the rings on my finger and went :o then.... Let me show you THE "best" we've got  ... Needless to say -- I didn't buy anything.
Got the car picked up and the rest of Friday went okay.

Saturday started okay enough. Got to sleep in and read some of my stuff for school. After sundown I started on the computer exercises. (not fun but okay).... Then it all went bad.
I heard FI downstairs asking one of the cats if she was okay and then he called me down. She was 1/2 asleep, not responsive, and barely breathing. I carried her upstairs to the couch (she HATES to be carried but didn't fight me this time) and told FI we need to get her seen NOW. It was about 9pm and our regular vet was closed so I called the emergency clinic and let them know what was happening and that we'd be there in 20 minutes.
One of the headlights is out (the one I JUST got fixed) and we can barely see to drive -- FI had to stop to jiggle the thing so we could get at least some light to see with.
The technician came right out when we brought Lilly inside and rushed her back to get her on oxygen. They also gave her a puff of inhaler and then later another puff of inhaler and a short-lasting steroid and watched her awhile.
We got antibiotics for her sinus infection (she's had this for about 6 years and been seen by the vet (past vet) but not treated correctly) and instructions to get children's benedryl.
Got home with her about 1am. She decided to sleep in our bed and I didn't really get any sleep since I kept checking on her.

Sunday went back in to get the light repaired AGAIN.

Now today I've had a crabby calculus instructor, found that BOTH headlights are out, talked to the vet (our new regular vet) about getting Lilly in for x-rays, got cramps, and got a busy (not good) day at the office.

Lilly will go in tomorrow for x-rays to verify the diagnosis at the emergency vet. They think she has asthma. (we've said that for years but the old vet wouldn't listen)

On a lighter note.....

How was your trip BG?

How was everyone's weekend?

I am sorry about your cat, Too. Hope she will get better soon. Our trip is alright. It was pretty boring there. I don't know if it's because of the weather or it's just a boring place. yesterday was really sunny, so we went hiking in a rainforest and walked around the long beach. We also didn't have to pay for the dinner we had at the resort because they didn't clean out room the day before. Not bad. So glad it's still a holiday today. Anyways, I miss having my FI around now. Can't wait till we are married so we can cuddle and relax at home every night.

Hey Ladies, Im with C right now, doing some homework for school. Just thought i would check in. C is cleaning out the food cabinet  ....ive been waiting for him to do this for almost 3 Years, he still had food from his Ex-wife in there. I can not believe he is acting cleaning it out. He even is wiping down the cabinets  .....i am in complete shock, its hard to do homework.I keep watching him run into the garage to empty out the trash can in the kitchen, hes on his 6th trip already

Too- OMG, i am so sorry about your kitty. I would be a nervous wreck by now, and i too know about the cramps. Im on Day 4, and wishing it would stop already. Please keep me updated on how she is doing.

Bg- Welcome back. Im sorry you thought the trip was boring, maybe its a just "relax" type of place, ya know, meant for baby-mkaing
