The LIW Small Talk Thread

So today's dress adventure completely sucked. Seriously, I drove 20 mins away for basically nothing. The website made it seem like they had tons and tons of dresses, but when I get there, the only ones that fit my style were 3 jim hjelm dresses. Well two had straps, so they were a no go, and the last one was nice, but not $3800 nice. I picked those 3 out and then asked the consultant if she had any other ideas and she said no. Awesome! Thanks for the help dingbat. Grrrr

Since this visit kind of ruined my dress shopping mojo, I'm going again tomorrow at a place near my office. :D

BG - of the four dresses you posted, my favorite is the 3rd. The other ones all had little things that bothered me, but of course I would have to see them on you to really decide.

I'm so jealous that your FI is going with you. I asked FI if he wanted to go, and he just asked why he would want to be tortured. I can tell he's trying to be supportive, but he definitely does not want to be forced to go.

Jessie - your Halloween party sounds awesome! I want to go. :)

Do you make your own costume? What have you done in previous years? I need to find one that I can purchase as a package that doesn't try to make me look like a slut. I was browsing around, and everything is naughty this or that. I was like geez, where are the conservative, comfortable costumes...

awwww, im sorry cali about your dress adventure. Thats just wrong, hopefully tommorow goes better tommorow. I think C will want to go with me, but im not letting him go. I like surpising him, and that will take it away.

Also, thanks about the halloween party. This is the first halloween party we are throwing together....seems like 2 weeks is so far away  . No i didnt make my own costume, and i am going kinda of slutty, i cant help it, its fun. Silly i know, i actually just pick and choose things i have, and than firgure out what to make out of it...lol. C is still trying to firgure out what to wear...you know you could go to liek savers and get something comfy and cheap! Last year i was a french maid, the year before that i was a cheerleader, and than the year before that i was Dorthy...

Thanks Jessie! I just came back home. I smell so good after my hot shower. It was fun going out with the girls. We looked for bridesmaid dresses. We have an idea what kinda style we want. :appl:

Cali: awww.. I know what you mean. I went to some place and I asked the lady if she has other similar style. She's like "oh.. you want to try more?" Don't worry, this place I'm going to next Thursday, they welcome cameras. I will have some pictures FOR SURE! I am hoping I'll "wow" my FI with some tight fitting dresses. Last time I went dress shopping with him, all the dresses I tried were not TIGHT fitting to show off my curve. Also, they didn't have clips to tighten my dress for me. It does make a difference.

Jessie - I'm more worried about being cold than anything else, so I want a costume that covers me up but is still cute. Who knows, I'm kind of lazy about these things so we'll have to see if I ever get around to finding something. I did think of cheerleader because I could wear a sweater, but then my legs could be cold.

Even though it's your first halloween party, sounds like you have some fun ideas. I bet your friends will love it!

BG - what did the bridesmaid dresses look like?

Isn't it weird when the consultants don't seem interested in helping you? I mean, I have to get my dress somewhere so it might be from you, put a little effort in. It was a bummer.

Yay, I can't wait for pictures of your new dress options. If I find any good ones tomorrow, I'll be sure to post.

I'm heading to bed, have a good night ladies!

Hey ladies!!!

One of my FI's friends messaged me on msn yesterday and asked if we want to take any pictures. He has been very interested in photography and has been taking lessons for quite awhile. He is pretty hard-core. He has all the equipments. I said maybe he can do our engagement pictures. He said "sure, free of charge, I just need to wait for more equipments to arrive." YEAH! We weren't planning to do any engagement pictures anyways, so it's a bonus for us. He can practice on us. Win win situation. However, of course we'll find a professional photographer to do our pre-wedding pictures and our wedding pictures. :appl:

Awesome deal BG! That will be so fun to take engagement pics and even better that they're free. When are you going to take them?

So I have a dress question for you ladies. I am 100% positive that I am going to go with lace. However, I don't know if I can pull off an ivory lace or if I have to find one with a champagne underlay. Here are pics of each - which do you think looks better with my skin tone? FYI - I'm super duper fair and do not tan.

Here is an ivory on ivory dress.

And here is ivory over champagne.

Of course, if either is fine that is better since I would have more options. I think one looks better, though, and just wanted to see if anyone could tell in pics.

O way cool BG- free is good, espically when it comes to weddings  ...

Cali- i like both of thos dresses, but oddly i like the first one's color on you, it might look different in person, but i like the first ones color. I think you can pull off ivory better than you could pull off a white gown. I understand the reason to go with the golden undertone for the lace since it would make you look a little more tanned, but i think you could pull off the ivory. Its a little difficult to tell in the picutres, but i like it.

Cali- thanks about the party. Its all C can friggin talk about, i had to remind him to talk to a few of his freinds though, he keeps talking about food, and what time to start and how he wants everything to be done, i have a bad habit of running around, and picking up after people at parties. , i cant help it, its built in, but he keeps saying he wants me to enjoy the party. Im getting so excited now...o and there will only be like 3 teens there, 1 of the teens is our friends daughter, and we told her she could bring friends so she wont be alone, cuz they dont trust the girl to be alone. Long story there, but she was talking to her friends and MEN, about killing her step-dad( our friend) and how he abuses her....so they dont trust her, so she must come to a adult party ;( ....

Honestly, I can't really see the colour very carefully. I do like the second one better, in terms of style. I don't really like the belt for the first one. It feels like your body is in 2 parts. The one without the belt shows your waist a lot better. That's what I think personally anyways.

However, you look smoking hot in both dresses. Lace is the way to go. I've heard that fair skin looks better in lighter colour.

I keep in looking at the two photos. I think whiter is better for you. Actually I like both. I like how simple and elegant the first one is. The second one is nice but maybe too antique looking.

Okay Ladies. im trying to decided what to make as a finger food for the party. I can either make a screaming cheese man, or the punkin pumpkin, which one do you like better....

   I like the second one. So funny and gross. Pumpkin throwing up. So cool!

Thanks BG, i think im gonna make both of them....they are both dips, but its just too tempting, i think ill add some salsa to te screaming man so it looks like blood....lol...

omg Jessie, you HAVE to make the pumpkin one. That one is hilarious! Love it!!!

You are seriously going to have an awesome party. That teen thing is weird though. Will they behave and be respectful of your house? I would just worry about what kind of shenanigans they might get up to while all the adults are having fun.

I gotta say, I'm super surprised that you both like the whiter color. One of the reasons I liked the champagne and ivory one was also because it highlights the lace better, but I think it also gives it a more antique look as BG said. But I gotta say, neither of those are realy options - they were more for color purposes. The jim hjelm one is $3800.

O wow.....3800...thers no way in HELL...seriously...thats too much for a dress your gonna wear for a few hours. Thats the one thing i hate about wedding planning, gowns are so expensive. Well are you trying to go for something more antique looking or something that goes with your skin tone. If your going for skin tone, than the lighter, if your going for a more anitque feels than the gold.

Yeah, the teens will behave themselves...honestly she doesnt seem like a bad kid, its just what we hear from her parents. They dont trust her, so we say okay, you cna bring a few friends. I know they wont tear up our house, because if they did, C would have a fit, and yeah, i wouldnt want to be there. Im not worried, she( the daughter) is bring her guy friend( who is homosexual), and i think her other girl friend. They will be by the pool most of the time. THe only thing i worry about is, the kids trying to steal some drinks because we will ahve a open bar( lol...we always have a open bar).

C loves the pumpkin, he thinks its so funny, im gonna make him crave the pumpkin though....lol....if im cooking he is craving...lol.

Cali:    I just had a small heart attack. $3800. WOW! That price is just a little bit less than my WHOLE wedding banquet in Canada.

Ok, I feel like I'm going nuts. I just showed FI the pictures and he also liked the whiter dress. I don't know why, but I can't get it out of my head that the whiter the dress, the worse it is for my skin tone. I really thought I was supposed to go for something with a gold undertone. I feel like I'm in bizarro world. I need to stop thinking about this.

I know that dress is ridiculous at $3800 and I would never spend that much on a dress no one will ever see, but it felt amazing on. So pretty. 8)

Sounds like everything will be all good with your party. I would definitely keep an eye for them stealing alcohol because I'm sure they'll try.

You and C are too cute, both being really excited for your party. I can't believe you can make all that stuff. I wish I could cook or bake well. Fi would definitely love that, but alas he is stuck with my ineptitude.

I personally like the white dress better, i think it will be fine with you skin tone. But like its been said before, go with what you like the most, its your day so go with what is gonna make you happy.
Thanks about the party, its okay, i dont cook all the time, so when i do its a treat for C...lol. Can you take some baking or cooking class, might be fun to show him what you can make.

hey ladies. Just checking to see if anyone is around today!

Just wanted to Introduce myself to the LIW! :wavey:

My honey and I have been together for quite some time now and we are both now ready to move on to the next step. I just don't know when! LOL. Hopefully in a few months. This forum is great & I'm so excited to finally post & be apart of the discussions here. :appl:

Welcome twinkle twinkle!

LIW is a fun place to hang out, I hope you enjoy your time here!

Cali -- I LOVED dress #2. The whiter one was nice too, but I liked how the underlay showed off the lace and seemed to richen your skin tone. ---- One thing to watch though is that every designer is going to be slightly different "white", "cream", "off-white", "champagne" etc don't necessarily match from one to the next.

Jessie -- Your party will be GREAT. Can you have some yummy and "grown up" feeling drinks for the teenagers so they are less tempted to sneak from your bar? Maybe you could do a brown sugar - rum sauce only thinner and add that to their apple cider or coffee. (cooking the alcohol causes the alcohol to be burned off but still leaves a yummy flavor)

BG -- Can't wait to see pictures of you in the dresses!

Twinkls Twinkle --- Welcome :wavey:

Update on my kitty ---

We heard back about the x-rays on Friday. Lilly has a partially collapsed right lung (the middle lobe), mucus-y gunk from her sinus infection (I think clogging the opening to that lung), asthma, and an enlarged lymph node in her colon (possible parasites). We've got her on antibiotics for another week and had to give her 1 1/2 dewormer/anti-parasite pills (FI and I are recovering after that one :nono: ). They'll test a fecal sample in a few weeks to make sure that if there was any parasites they're gone. We're also using diatematious earth (powdery stuff) in their can food to help Lilly and prevent/kill parasites in Sven. We picked up the kitty-adapter for inhalers and need to fill the prescriptions.

Her lung will (hopefully) re-inflate as the infection gets better and she uses her inhaler. If not, we'll have to consider having a swab done of the mucus-y stuff (under sedation).

My poor Lilly ;(
I've had her since a kitten and kept telling the vet something was wrong. They ran tests, took my money, and then said I wasn't feeding her "the right" food :nono: . I'm so glad we found a new (good) vet for her to see.

Hi twinkle! Welcome!

too: I am sorry about your cat. I hope she will be better very very soon. I can't wait till I can try some dresses again and post pics here. My appointment is on Thursday night. I will upload pics as soon as I can that night.

More than doubled in size. 6.2 pounds when we brought her home at 8 weeks old. Now she's 14 pounds (probably a bit more now) and 13 weeks old.

Just about the same size as Lilly (our kitty with asthma) and a bit more than 1/2 of Sven's size (he's 25 pounds). She still looks small next to Sentra (70 pound dog)...

I started my workout yesterday. I have to keep it up!!!! I need all the support I can get. :naughty:

That's so cool you have so many pets. I want another parrot. My FI was like "no, we have BB already." :(( Speaking of BB, she is laying eggs. Just two more eggs to go. I have to take her in to the vet for an annual checkup. I've decided to do that ever since she injured her foot last year. I have to wait until she has all her eggs. She hates going to the vet. She'll struggle like mad. :(sad It's for her own good though. She's 8!

Are you doing a video workout or your own thing? Keep it up!! You can do it!

Awwwww..... BB needs a friend! Imagine how happy BB would be with a parrot to snuggle up with.

Yeah.... the annual trip to the vet... Ick.
Worth it to keep them healthy but they never understand that.

We don't have toooooo many animals at home... Well maybe. 2 cats. 2 dogs.
I had 2 cats (rescued as kittens -- Lilly was one of them) then FI came with his cat (Miglet died last November). Then it got strange... my two cats weren't getting along (Huggy was beating up Lilly) and my mom moved to a house without a yard so we sort of traded -- she took Huggy and we took Sentra (poor FI got a call at work one day "So.... can mom take Huggy home?"..."What? Really?!?! YES!!!"... "Well.... she doesn't have a yard anymore and we do... so..... can Sentra come live with us?"..... " :?: ... Huh? Um.... Okay???" ----- a few hours later we went from having 3 cats to 2 cats and a dog)
Then we felt bad because Lilly didn't have a friend to snuggle with (Miglet HATED her) and a week or so later we found Sven at a shelter (we stopped by to visit about once a week for a year (we had been talking about adopting another cat when we found the right fit) and he was a GREAT fit for our home..... so 3 cats and a dog.
Miglet died in November last year ;( -- 2 cats and a dog.

Then we added Millie --- kind of (okay, really) a surprise addition but we had been talking about starting the visiting process to the shelters around here to find a friend for Sentra.

Yeah.... we've got all the animals we can manage for awhile. We've got plenty of room for the 2 cats and 2 dogs to run around, a yard big enough for the 2 dogs (even if Millie gets to 60+ pounds) to play in, enough money to provide good food and medical care for them all (even if it is tough sometimes), and enough time to give them the attention they need. But -- no more. (If there is another in need of rescue, we can squeeze them in long enough to find a good forever-home)
