The LIW Small Talk Thread

My boss is gone from work... and while I have a ton to do I am trying desperately to not spend all day looking at settings. Good thing I don't have too much work to do. :)

I was hoping for more posts to comment on, but we apparently didn't have any engagements over Halloween :(

I know, it has been super slow around here lately.....

Does it tend to slow down right before thanksgiving/christmas/new years with guys waiting for the holidays?

I think my SO will purchase a ring in the beginning of next year, but I don't know how long I've got to wait other than that. I'm amusing myself by purchasing two colored stones, a sphene I'll get in about a week and a faceted opal I hope to buy at intergem the end of the month. I'll turn them into rings, bringing SO into the process so he knows what he's doing when it comes to my e-ring.

Morning Ladies :wavey: Whats going on today? I have a butt-load of homework to do today, poo

Looks like I've got about the same plans as you do..... poo :knockout:

calculus homework due tomorrow, calculus quiz Friday, programming homework due Friday (haven't started -- had 2 weeks :nono: ), calculus exam Tuesday (she splits the midterm (worth 20% of grade) into 3 exams)

To make life more interesting I may or may not be the person who is supposed to set up a bunch of computers to record sessions at the annual synagogue learning event  . FI and I did it the last 2 years but I let the woman organizing know, when she finally bothered to tell me that we were doing it again :angryfire: , that I'm busy with work and school and FI is busy with work so we really can't commit to being responsible for the recordings. We get up at 4:30 so being at an event from 6:00 - 10/11 and not making it to bed until midnight just isn't something we can do (especially if I have homework that night!). So.... she guilted me until I suggested that we could set the computers up each time (3 wednesdays in a row) if someone else could save the files at the end of the night and get the computers back to the owners. We can even clean up the recordings...

Haven't heard back from her. Don't know if we're setting up or not. Have NO clue what is going on ----- and the first night is tonight!

This is the woman I've had (BIG) problems with but put up with because FI was friends with her and her husband. (do you ladies remember the bat mitzvah mess???)

Great idea! Teaching without actually teaching..... good thinking.

Going to see more stones tomorrow so hopefully get the ball rolling a little faster.

Will be going to see the gown of my dreams in the coming weeks to see if it lives up to my fantasy and whether it would be worth even contemplating purchasing in the next 6 months (pre-engagement)

I finally called the woman yesterday and found that she was in fact expecting us to set up the recording stuff -- and she was RUDE about it when I called to confirm!
We got dinner started, gathered up our personal recording stuff (3 microphones, adapters, etc) and headed out to meet her. Got there and she only had one computer there to set up and didn't even know what rooms she wanted recorded. Got that one set up and waited while she found a couple more computers to use and set them up too. She hadn't bothered to find anyone to pick the stuff up at the end (and made it really clear that she figured she'd guilt us into staying "for just one session" and that we'd just do it ourselves -- after me saying NO due to homework and exams) so I had to find someone myself --- after hearing her in the hall trying to get someone to do it because "TooPatient and B are just too busy to bother to help". :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire:
What?!??!!! -- we took over two hours out of our already busy day to drive there and set stuff up -- and left our PERSONAL microphones (3 @ $40-60 each) AND a disc drive to save the files on (about $80) so that she could have the things recorded. (side note --- we've let her borrow several things (including a $1000 projector) and she has NEVER returned them).
How the h*** is that "not helping"  :angryfire:

Of course that made dinner late and I only got to finish part of my calculus homework and didn't even get to the programming
So now it is Thursday and I have an assignment due tomorrow that I haven't even started the reading for.

And the icing on that sour cake was having her husband show up (he was going to video record a class for her) and flat out ignore us... not even ignore -- annoyed/angry/grudge-holding silence.
What is he upset about?????!?!! If any of us should be upset/grudge-holding it should be me and FI! They're the one's who invited us to their daughter's bat mitzvah (which I promptly returned a "yes" RSVP for -- and when we saw them SAID we'd be there to celebrate with them) then didn't have us on the guest list when we showed up! Leaving us all dressed up - me in a brand new cashmere wrap (bought specially for the event even though money is tight - with nowhere to go. We donated money to the charity the daughter requested and bought her a really nice gift -- which we left on the gift table when we left and still haven't gotten the slightest acknowledgement for (no thank-you note, no "thank you" when we saw them at another event, not so much as a response to my e-mail when I let the mother know that we had the receipt so if their daughter wanted something different (art is really personal so we would have understood) we could get the receipt and packing box for her and they could exchange it)

oh.... and they invited us to a holiday dinner last year -- just so we could bring the wine (and said so to a couple of their family members while we were there!)

(it gets worse.... but you get the idea)

I'm so sick of her and them!

Too- I am so sorry, but i must say you are handling this woman better than i would, because i would go back, pick up my stuff, mircophones and projector and give her a piece of my mind!

I was so tempted...
But the rabbi was there as were a lot of our (FI and mine) friends and a lot of the rest of the Jewish community in the area that we'd like to get to know better. ;(

FI is sick of them too. Hard to avoid them completely but we haven't been doing much with them recently...

I'm soooooooooo glad FI is pretty much done wanting to deal with them too. I've not liked this woman for awhile now.

Jessie --- How's your homework going? Did you get it all done?

Nope, i didnt, and the half hour nap i just took didnt elp the situation...lol

LOL! I've been napping too.... usually in the car while B is driving or in the evening right after dinner or....

I think the naps help though (in moderation) so that you can have a clearer mind when doing the school work.

Ok well the crazy dreams have started (I guess in the lead up to our holiday).

Last night I dreamed that D proposed by just handing me a ring and kind of shrugging! The ring was not at all what I had been hinting at, it was a marquise ruby halo in yellow gold with a 4mm band and not even slightly my style lol. I was still really happy about the proposal but a little disappointed that I would have to wear that ring around for the rest of my life (it wasnt ugly, just not what I would like to wear).

And the night before I dreamt that he was going to propose while we were overseas but every day odd and bad things kept on happening which made each day not an ideal situation so he didnt get a chance and we came to the end of our holiday.

It really is an odd thing to dream about lol.

Honestly, i try to get a nap in when i have school because i start at 1 and dont get out until 7, and i wake up early so i try to get a nap in, but on my days off of school, i dont. I think its helpful, because i find i can stay focused a little longer than i can if i havent napped.

Nat- Welcome to the crazy waiting on your bf to propose dreams club. Been there, done that, and now i ignore them. LoL.....

Side Note, C and i are going to a local Aquirium this weekend or next weekend. We found out the prices arent bad at all, its like 14 bucks for locals, and 18 for visitors. Ive been wanting to go for years, and this week we went by the casino that has it. It looks so cool, im so excited. We will probably make a day out of it, and have lunch out there, which is super pricey. Maybe go by the burger bar at that casino/hotel. Im trying to firgure out a cute but comfy outfit to wear...lol. Just like im also trying to NOT get my hopes up that he will propose while we are there....Ladies HELP, Please....i dont want to think about it, while im there the whole time. Hmmmm, maybe i should read my book again .....

Heres the link to the Shark Reef

HELP!!!! LoL

Hello ladies! This will be my last post for awhile. I'm leaving early in the a.m. and heading to Trinidad to see my family. I'll be back on the 14th.

Hi Jessie,

I had to chime in because we stayed at the Mandalay before on one of the times we went to Vegas and while we didn't go to the Shark reef (too much to do in Vegas!) we did go to the Burger Bar. It's a cool place to go to, the food's decent (what can you expect from Burgers) but if you're a big beer fan, they have a ton to choose from! The guy that is one of the owners we actually spoke with while we were there and he really knows his stuff. Bf and I are big beer snobs, so it's nice to get some good recoomendations when we're out.

Have fun!

Thanks SC......ive been to the burger bar before and it was yummy, but no beer for me. Im not a Beer fan at all.....doesnt taste good to me, but than again Jack doesnt taste good to some people either. LoL...I cant wait, we might go next weekend, no football game on sunday...lol.

Hi ladies! Haven't been on here for awhile. I need to catch up! I have some good and bad news.

What do you guys want to hear first?

Good news! We found our wedding photographers. We have pretty much finish with planning our wedding because I bought my dress yesterday! It's a Da Vinci dress, ivory colour. It was 50% off, so... I paid $499 + 5% tax (I paid in cash so that I don't need to pay the extra 7% tax). The dress is like two sizes too big but it can be altered for just $100. I love the dress and it looks good on me. I don't think I can find another dress like this with this amazing price. However... here is the bad news...

The more my mom look at it at home. She thinks it's TOO yellow. She wanted me to wear white because of some tradition. PURE and stuff. She didn't know about that tradition until she heard it from her friends. At the store, I kept on asking her if she was ok with it. We look at the dress next to the window with sunlight. It wasn't as "yellow." That's why we bought it. Ivory is within the white shade anyways. The person there said it will look whiter in sunlight and outdoor picture. It will look yellow because of the lightbulbs. Now, my mom wants me to get the white one. We talked to those people. We can return this one only if we order the white one from them. However, the white one will be $800ish. (with the 15% off). Since this will be a custom make order, I don't need any alternation after. So, we're talking about $600ish (ivory, including alternation) VS $800ish (brand new, white, no alternation needed). My mom said she'll pay for the extra money. She even said she wants to get me this whole dress anyways. What do you guys think? I was really upset about it. I talked to my cousin in HK. She said she'll pay the extra money because she knows I'm upset. However, it's not about the money. I'm HAPPY to get this because of the AMAZING price. I feel like if I have to pay $800ish for it, I won't think it's THAT amazing anymore? Maybe I'm just stubborn. The more my mom talk about it, the more "ivory" it seems. At first I didn't really care, I just love the style of my dress and the price of it. I am so easily influenced. I don't think people will notice the colour. However, right now, I am thinking if the alternation will cut off some flowery pattern on both sides. HELP!

You can see the details here. My mom will add more beadings/crystals onto those flowery pattern to make the dress sparkles even more

BTW, the dress should be more fitted at the lower hip area. My mom and I were trying hard to tighten it with our hands for the picture. Also, the top part, I'm going to have the center lowered a little, not really a sweetheart, but a little "dip"

AE -- Have a safe trip. And... Have FUN!

PrincessNatalie -- LOL! Great dream. I had dreams until about the time B proposed.... then the wedding dreams started

Jessie ---- OOOOooooooo!!! What makes you think he could propose???
Did you go this weekend??? Any exciting pictures to share :naughty:
Okay... Sorry... Keep busy. Don't focus on it. Bake. Study. He'll ask you and it'll be perfect whenever and however he does it.

BG --- Your dress is GORGEOUS!!! What is wrong with the color?
Can you take pictures of it in different lighting (doesn't have be be on you, just hold it and get pictures) so you can see what it will look like in the lighting and what it will look like in pictures in the lighting. (outside/sun, outside/cloud, bright, dim, inside/candles, inside/dim, inside/bright, inside/window)

I have a serious problem. I am going to order it in white and in my proper size. The alternation will cut off some patterns. The thing is, since I am willing to spend more money to order a dress, I don't think I like this one anymore. The main reason I like this one because of the good deal. I hate myself for doing this. I will call the store later and hopefully pick another style there. I am so torn.

NEVER buy a dress that way -- especially for your wedding!

You've got plenty of time to keep looking until you find THE ONE. Keep watching sample sales and stuff. Maybe even try on stuff out of your budget that is available used (preownedweddingdresses.com). There are options.

If you buy something because of the price, you will second guess yourself until the day of your wedding (and after when you see the pictures!).

sigh. I know! I'm screwed!

edit: well, I called the store. The woman is very understanding. I told her I want to look for another style since I am willing to pay more to order a dress. I can only return the dress and order/pick another one from them. She said I can wait until december because it has new gowns coming in. I told her I might look now 'cuz 20% off any special order now. If I can't find any now, I'll wait until december and get the 15% off.

Oh no BG! I just saw all your posts and it seems like you are in quite the situation.

I have to say, I really like that dress on you. It looks great on your figure and I like the little lace peeking out. I can't get a good read on your skin tone, but ivory is usually good for really fair people (like me) but white can be really hard to pull off unless you're super tan. I hope you think about it a little more since I think the dress you bought looks so good on you.

I will also echo Too's sentiment about not putting so much weight into getting a good deal. I got an amazing deal, and I've been second guessing my dress all weekend. Haven't gotten the best feedback so now I'm worrying about my choice as well. I can agree that it seriously sucks.

Oh, and let me add that I am not only lame about dress decisions. I absolutely did not want a 3rd dog and yesterday I caved into FI and told him he can get the dog he's always wanted. I'm going from my 5lb rat dogs to a big dog I hate. I wish I could say no to FI but alas I love him too much. BOOOOOOOOO

/rant

How are you doing Too?

Awwww....
Have you met the big dog?
What breed?
Pictures????!!!

I'm getting back into exercising, waiting for my new debit card (my account got broken into -- again), bills bouncing all over because the card is blocked and the new one isn't here yet, scrambling to get stuff to go through my other account, sneezing all over, flaking skin.
Millie (new puppy) got sick last night... then tried to eat it. Cats peed all over her bed.
Sentra bit Millie (and drew blood) -- she's okay (and REALLY deserved the warning snip)
2nd major calculus exam tomorrow morning -- just failed (5.5/15) the quiz Friday... that covers stuff that'll be on the exam.

But... It was sunny today. FI is wonderfully sweet. I don't have to cook dinner. I'm feeling good about exercising. My new gun works! Just 4 1/2 weeks to go this quarter.

OooooooO!!!!!!!! and I'm having my mom/step-father/brother/grandma/grandpa over for an early Thanksgiving. (mom has back surgery the day before Thanksgiving)

Gotta run to study.

See you all tomorrow.

Cali -- I hope the new dog melts your heart and becomes a wonderful, happy addition to your family.

Wow Too, you sound super duper busy. Good luck on your exam, hope it goes better than the quiz! Your pet stories are exactly why I don't want another - we already have enough issues with the two so more dogs means more drama and work. Millie is still having health problems?

We are actually getting a puppy, so I have 5 weeks before the little thing arrives. It's a little vizsla since that is what FI has always wanted, so thankfully they aren't ridiculously big. The little girl should only grow to about 40 lbs, but it's quite the lifestyle change from what we have right now. I got to name her as part of the agreement, and her name is going to be Lola.

O man, i feel like ive missed so much.

Cali- Congrats on a new baby, when she/he comes, i so want pictures. I love Furbabies.

Too- How is stuides. I know super busy, im there too. LoL. How is Millie?

Bg-Dont worry, you will find a dress, but dont order somethign just because its cheap. Its your wedding, get want you really want.

So we didnt go to the sharkreef this weekend, we are gonna go on Monday, but we did go out and played tourist yesturday. Saturday night, we just went out and had a few drinks, was a early night, i wasnt in the mood. Sunday we watched the game, but the key point of sunday night is: C has a catalog from work, he gets to pick out a gift for working with them for 5 years. Well he has had this dang book for a month, and it came with a ringsizer, because there are rings in there. Well i was sitting at the table, and he is going through the catalog, and than tosses me the ring sizer and tells me to try it on. Well i think its no biggie, and try it on....size 8 1/2. I didnt tell him, so he asked a minute later/ I than started playing with it, showing him our friends size, he than ask me to give it to him, so he can measure his finger. He does, and hes like" Hmmm, size 8 1/2, we wear the same size" my reply," Hmmmm, we sure do. thats funny". After that we went out to eat dinner, well i was actually kind of angry with him about something and went and slept on my side fo the bed. Yesturday Morning, he wanted to go out and eat, i wasnt in the mood, but went. Glad i did, it was yummy. Afterwards we decided to play tourist, and we went to one of the Hotels on the strip. We while were out there, we decide to hit all the Hotels on that corner( LOTS of walking). In the second hotel, there was a jewerly store, it was called Bling, its all CZ stuff, but still fun to look at. While the lady in there was helping us, i saw a ring, and she asked what size i wore, C answers before i could" she wears a size 8 1/2" . Needless to say, i was SHOCKED. I didnt think he would remeber. Well the lady was really nice and just let me go crazy, but gave me a job application, which i filled out while there. On the way out the door, we stopped by the Mens case, and C says" For fun, if i choose a ring, it would have to be this one" and he points it out and asks me what i thought. It was cool, two toned. We finished walking around.
Skip forward to dinner, i actually cooked, i made ghetti, and salad, and garlic bread and brownies for desert. While eating, we were watching a show about whats going on in vegas, and theres a jewerly store they were showing. He asked me where it was located, and i didnt know, and forgot about it, About an hour later the commercial comes on, and C is like" Hmmm, its located on X street, where is that?" I didnt think anything about it, and told him its close to his work. Oddle he was very huggy this morning, im trying to not over think it ladies, but i think im getting SUPER DUPER CLOSE!!!!

Oooohhhh! -- A puppy!!!

Millie is doing great now. She is up to 18 pounds (as of a few days ago) and still growing. I'll have to get a picture of her on her little bed we bought for her when we brought her home -- it looks so tiny now. (she's got a bigger bed that she uses mostly now)

I'm sure your puppy will be healthy. We had problems with Millie because of the bad situation she came from. She was left to run around outside, not sure of health of other animals, area she came from known to have water problems (probably how she got the giardia), no clue what she was fed, pretty sure she hadn't eaten for 2-3 days when we brought her home.

Lily is feeling a bit better too. We have the albuteral inhaler for emergency use. Other than that, she's managing really well with us keeping all of the fur/dust cleaned really really well. She gets benadryl if she starts to sneeze or have a runny nose.
