The LIW Small Talk Thread

BG - We carved our pumpkins last weekend and I threw out all the meat and just cooked the seeds. I'm positive that pumpkin puree is different from the insides of a pumpkin, which as really slimy, stringy and gross. I think we carved ours too soon, though, since a squirrel has eaten half of the face off FI's. Fortunately mine is still intact.

Bummer about not getting to go look at rings with FI! When are you going with your mom? That will be so much fun to see how the different styles look, I'm looking forward to doing that myself.

When is your next dress shopping adventure? I'm going to PoB in a little bit and if they have nothing, I'm ordering the sample of that dress (no one near me carries it). It's definitely not see through - there's a layer of ivory satin under the lace. I also tried on one just like it and it wasn't see through either.

I feel kind of lame getting something so so cheap (I found out it's actually only $450), but maybe I should just be happy I might have found the one...

mif - I love looking at different wedding dresses too, but when you start to think about what will fit your location, what looks good on you, and how you should probably stay within a budget for a dress you'll only wear a few hours, it becomes a lot less fun. Ah wedding dress shopping, why do you have to be so annoying?! :rodent:

Can you post pics of the dresses you like? I like looking at everyone else's, they are far more beautiful and intricate than what I'm shopping for so I love to see them.

We are going to look at rings on nov 10. I am very excited about that. I am supposed to go dress shopping today too. However, I got my period yesterday, I don't want to go now. however, there is a sephora grand opening here, I am going to buy something and get a free tote bag. :D I have to run lots of errands today before I teach. Then, dinner with FI and meet up with the photographers. We are both vvery excited. I think you can make puree using real pumpkin meats. I found it online. We will see how desperate I am to bake some pumpkin stuff.

Sounds like you have a fun, busy day planned. I love sephora, but I always wait for the F&F event to buy all my stuff from them. Actually, I just looked and F&F is going on right now. Code is FF2010. Phew I'm glad I looked because otherwise I might have missed it.

Let me know if you puree the insides of the pumpkin. I'm interested to know how it goes since I was almost dry heaving just touching it. They definitely didn't seem very appetizing to eat, but I know nothing about cooking so who the heck knows..

Lots going on in here since I last posted.

BG: glad you're going to go with FI to pick rings. I think that's a fun thing to do. I really like that dress you posted.

Cali: I really love that dress. Why would you feel lame I mean I don't know how much you normally spend on your clothes but in almost any other setting a $450 dress is expensive! lol The dress I have in mind is about $318 http://www.bestbridalprices.com/mori-lee-voyage-wedding-dresses-style-6505-p-51909.html?cPath=1&style=1.. That's a third of what I spent the first time around.

That said for a destination wedding I figure I don't want to spend too much. I love this one though http://www.bestbridalprices.com/casablanca-wedding-dresses-style-1873-p-11899.html?cPath=1&designers=31 and this one http://www.bestbridalprices.com/mori-lee-wedding-dresses-style-2316-p-35270.html?cPath=1&designers=108

Mif: You know I feel like I'm in for the long haul with you and I've looked at dresses, rings, destination wedding sites etc all online.

Jessie: good luck with the party. Hope you have a great time!

I had a crazy day at work yesterday and today but last night I went to a fundraising event where they showed a documentary that K was in for his old boarding school. It was so nice and I'm so proud of him. He got to do lots of networking which is great! In the Spring we got invited to Nepal. One of the other grads co-founded a company that focuses on education for girls in Nepal. Most of K's family came to the event so I got to meet some more relatives. They were all nice. I got to have a good conversation with his mom about letting him go to boarding school all the way in New Hampshire when she lived in NY. She gave me some good insight. One of the faculty members that I met when we went up for graduation in May is so sweet. she kept introducing me as K's SO and then at the end she was telling people that K really wants his kids to go to the school and K replies "I'm working on her" lol it was funny. My birthday is on Monday and I'm going to work. Tomorrow, K and I have some errands to run and then Sunday we're supposed to go out in the afternoon. We're also going to look at rings at Tiffany. I told K I was disappointed that we couldn't go to Leon's to see the setting I love so we're going to Tiffany. I doubt I'll find anything like the Leon setting but we'll see how it goes! That's a nice b-day present for me!

Adana - don't mean to skip over you, but I am bursting with excitement!

I BOUGHT A DRESS!

I got it at the Priscilla sample sale and it is absolutely nothing like I ever imagined or tried on before. It was crazy, I was going through the racks thinking there weren't many options and how this would be a bust too. I say this chiffon dress with beaded straps and I was like eh, I'll give it a try. I put it on and it looked really really good on me even though it was too big.

So I called up FI to come see it (the sale was only today) and fortunately his office was only a few blocks away. He came to the store and he said he liked it. He wasn't like omg that's amazing, but that's not really his style. So I started to doubt it. Then I asked the SA to pick me a lace dress similar to what I've been looking at so he can see one in person. I put it on and he said he HATED the style of lace dresses, so I was like WTF. I put the first dress back on and he said it looked so much better on me and that I should get it.

Priscilla was great and they are even doing a lot of the alterations for free. For a sample, it wasn't in too bad of shape either and it was the perfect length for a beach wedding. Oh, and the regular price of the press was $2350, I got it for $495 after tax. Quite the steal.

Pics will be in an upcoming thread. :D

Congrats CaliBali! You look amazing in it! :-D

My mum is telling me to start organising what I want so it will easily be planned in a year because we will be having quite a large wedding.

So here is what I know suits me in style and also within budget.

http://www.polkadotbride.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/collette-dinnigan-1.jpg <3<3<3 this!!!

http://www.amsale.com/bridal/bluelabel/080211/080211590.shtml IN LOVE!!!!!

With the above two I want to have a contrasting sash to go with the theme either black or super super dark eggplant or maybe something else haha!

http://www.amsale.com/bridal/bluelabel/091231/dahlia.shtml (might be a bit much for me but my mum loves it and it is amazing!)

Cali: no problem! Amazing news!

Mif: beautiful dresses. I love the lace at the top of # 2. How large are you thinking your wedding will be?

Well so far we have estimated 200 both our families are very big with just our family its about 100!
I imagine it will be 250 by the time we have everyone.

I love the top of #2 also ahhh so gorgeous.

What sort of dresses have you been looking at online?

Mif: I posted my top few choices above. They're all different types actually.

Ohhh gorgeous! Love the variety. Sometimes I think maybe I am too set in my ways but then again I know exactly what suits me and my body shape.

Mif: there's definitely nothing wrong with that! There are lots of people who have no idea what looks good on them and works with their body type. I would definitely try those on or something similar and see what style I really love on me that would work for the type of wedding we end up having.

Yeh thats a very good point!

Have you started the ring search?

Sort of. I always see ones that I like then I save the links and come back again to see how I feel. At this point I'm really hoping K will eventually get the one I love from Leon. I think cold fusion with an AVC would be my ideal. When we go to Tiffany tomorrow, I look for something similar. The closest is probably the legacy and try that on.

How exciting!!!

The more I look at this one dress the more I think it is the one. I have worn a gown this style just patterned with a smaller skirt to a black tie function and it was perfect! Ahhh if only I were engaged now haha!

Mif: I replied in your thread. It's definitely a tough decision to have to make, wait and risk it not being available vs trying to get it made later.

K and I had a good day running errands. He picked me up early and we headed out to NJ. I picked up some stuff and we met up with my friend. Chatted for awhile and then took a look at the building I'm considering buying a condo in. When we got back to Brooklyn, he had to go to the bank (3 different ones actually) then we went back to his apartment and relaxed for awhile then I came home later this evening.

Cali: I just came home from a friend's bday party. Omg. Congrats on getting a dress! For such a good deal too! Omg!!! It's 2am. I should sleep, but I just have to congrat you first.

I responded to you in my thread BG, but thanks again for checking out my dress. I was completely surprised I liked it since I said there was no way I would wear straps, but I just couldn't pass up the beautiful design, quality and amazing price. It's actually a handmade dress so I'm just really happy I got something so nice for my budget. I'm not really doubting the choice anymore, I think it was just a moment of weakness yesterday.

Oh, and now I need to turn my back a lot at the wedding. It's way to sexy to not get lots of pics of the back, hehe.

Have you considered calling different boutiques and just asking when they have sample sales? I called every single one near me and planned on attended all the sample sales to get a good deal. Most of them were coming up in the next month or so. Usually the dresses are marked down from 50-70% off, and the couple places I went to already had dresses more along the lines of what you are looking for. So it might be something to look into.

And thanks Adana for the dress compliments as well!

So we went to the Plaza for brunch for my birthday. After that we went to Tiffany and I tried on a bunch of rings. I tried on a 2.5 carat round solitaire. I knew it wasn't the ring for me. I tried on a round halo ring, a few emerald cut rings, one with baguettes and one with trillion side stones. I tried on the Legacy setting including the newer one that has more diamonds on a bridge under the prongs. It was ok but I really liked the simple Legacy. I don't really love the way that center faces up though. To me it looks more like an asscher than a cushion. I tried on one 1.67 carat center and another one with 2.11 carat center. So he asked the consultant to write down the info of the 1.67 carat ring and I tried on the matching band. Then he asked what how quickly he could get the ring if he wanted it and the guy told him as long as it's in the store, he can get it as soon as he pays for it. I'm not getting my hopes up because it was really expensive, like 2-3x the budget I was working with in my head and really I don't need a vvs1 diamond. So I explained it to him. I'm also not getting my hopes up because when we were leaving and I asked if he'd really spend that kind of money on a ring and he said, yeah in 4 years after he's been working as a doctor he'll be able to afford it. Of course I freaked out because we said up to 2 years so then I was in a bad mood. He said he just did the math wrong when he said it but I don't know what to think.

BG --- I'm making a pumpkin pie this week....

to get pumpkin puree:
--start with a sugar pie pumpkin (NOT the ones you carve -- look for sugar pumpkin, pie pumpkin, or sugar pie pumpkin -- usually much smaller and about $0.99/pound or so)
--cut it in half and scoop out the seeds and stringy gunk
-- put it in a 350 degree oven cut side down on a cookie sheet with a bit of water
-- roast until tender (check with a fork)
-- cool for a bit (or you'll burn your fingers)
-- remove the skin
-- puree the rest (no skin, no seeds, no slimy/stringy stuff) until smooth

AE --- Happy Birthday!

Cali ---- Congratulations! (gotta go to BIW to see pictures now!!)

Jessie --- How was your party?

The Party went will, was a hit, we got a fog machine and made a cooler for it, and lots of finger foods. Lots of good music and drinks, i dont think we had any punch( made with everclear) left or food....it was so easy cleaning up for once  ..we went out dancing on saturday, and than i was SICK as a DOG on sunday, between Everclear on friday and Jack on Saturday, i thought i was gonna die, but i still toughed it out during the football game....today we went out sight-seeing and had breakfast. Ill catch up with you ladies later, i gotta study

Too: Thanks!

Happy Birthday Adana!

Thanks for the kind remarks in my dress thread Too. Do you cook a lot? I might need to hit you up for some recipes. ;)

I'm glad your party went well Jessie! Sounds like you guys went all out and everyone really appreciated it. Did you make the barfing pumpkin like the picture you had posted? I can't believe you had punch with everclear, gah! That stuff is ridiculously hardcore, I haven't had it since college and I'd probably die now if I tried to drink it.

The dress is ready whenever I want it I suppose. They are going to work on the pleating now, but I probably won't go back until April for my first fitting. Ah, I'm too obsessed with it still. I wish I had better pictures, it was so lovely in person and it made me look super duper skinny. I'm so happy I found it. 8)

Happy Birthday Adana :-D

Made progress today FF eluded to an Oct 2011 engagement so 11 months to go :-D

Also asked him what would happen if I got my dress before he said that as long as he doesn't pay for it he didn't see why not because I would definitely be wearing! Hope all LIW are going well!

Cook lots. Usually every day and mostly from scratch. I'm trying to make big batches of stews/chilis/soups so I can freeze bags to use when I'm too tired/busy to cook. (we had a bag of chili last night :lickout: )
Love to bake when I get the time.

My weekend was.... dull?
Slept on Saturday. Millie had training class on Sunday. Made a pizza, watched a movie, cleaned.

I had to use give Lilly a puff of inhaler last night after she started wheezing and struggling to breathe..... Poor kitty ;(

Ad- Happy Birthday, sorry i missed that the other day.

Too- I am so sorry about Lily.

Mif- congrats on the timeline...thats exciting.

Cali-Yes, Everclear, it was a good punch, Tropical Punch, Pineapple juice, Ginger Ale, and Everclear.......it was funny, everyong had left the party, and i looked at C and asked if we were going out, he said No, so i went and sat on the couch, he told me, i was knocked out within 5 minutes

Thanks for the happy birthdays! I had a pretty good day at work yesterday and today.

Oh thanks Jessie. It is ages away but nevermind hopefully it will go quickly with the designing of the ring etc.

Morning Ladies :wavey: Whats going on today? I have a butt-load of homework to do today, poo
