The LIW Small Talk Thread

We ended up not going to the dinner Friday night so I didn't do the cupcakes. B had a big deadline at work and I was sick :knockout:

Anyway..... Here are some pictures of the cake.

It was nice to be home for a quiet evening together.

Millie helped in the garden this weekend. We were pulling out a couple of ugly bushes so that we could plant the trees I gave B and Millie watched for awhile until she saw that we were pulling the little roots out of the ground (you know how after you pull something in the garden there are alway lots of long, stringy roots left). So she came over and grabbed hold of one and pulled it out. It was so cute! She helped us (sometimes productively like pulling roots out other times sitting in the hole we were trying to dig  ) for nearly four hours. SOoooo cute!

Of course the problem then was that after the trees were in, she went back and started digging around them trying to pull out the rest of the little roots we'd left behind. (not the tree roots, just the ones from the bushes that we pulled). We had to put up a little fence around it to keep her out so she didn't hurt the tree.

I wish we had more pictures of them all outside. They just get so excited if you hold anything in your hand outside that I'm afraid the camera will get broken.

Okay, why is it, whenever you have a great start to a day, the night is usually messed up. C and i had a great relaxing morning, made some breakfast, snuggles on the couch, napped before he went to work. Well about 3 hours before he went home from work, his friend J calls him, telling him the ac is out in the house( he is currently renting a home from C), and thats its nearly 97 in the house. Well C had to talk to J's wife( which he cant stand), and about 4 ac companies trying to get someout there to fix it, all while J is at the gym working out , not even helping. Well the whole ac needs to replaced, cheapest C could find was 3500. Which we dont have right now, trying to pay our trip off, and some other bills, and since they are renting, its not like we can ask them to pay for it. What pisses us off is, this has been out for almost 2 weeks, they could have told us earlier. NOT waited until the hottest night so far this year. So now C is pissed off, stressed and we have to come up with 3500 by tommorow.

Ick!

That sucks! I'm not too familiar with the laws/regulations on people who rent houses but I know they can be pretty tough. My grandparents rented out one of their houses for a few years and I remember the frustration with the whole mess as Grandpa had to drop everything and drive the four hours to go fix whatever it was RIGHT NOW.

Any way they would accept payments on the AC? Like maybe 50% down and then the rest over the next couple of months?

*sigh*, So the new AC is on the rental house, and the 3500 is on the credit card. C is so angry, its not so much about the 3500( well its part of it, he was almost debt free) but about the attitude of his friends. They called him with a attitude, and even called C at 6 in the morning asking where the AC people were. Now C gets home from work areound 11pm, usually gets to bed around 1am, so calling at 6, really breaks into his sleep. What irked C was, if his friend didnt call at 6, he wouldnt have missed the phone call from the AC people, asking to be let in the gate. C is so tired of renting to them, they never pay the rent on time, whenever we spend time with them, its always a problem, or they give us attitude. His wife is so lazy and ungratiful, she never helps when she stops by( and i know people shouldnt help when they come by, but they always bring their dogs, and their dogs end up going to the bathroom, on our new carpet, and she never helps pick it up). If C wouldnt lose money, he would sell the house, but at this point, with the market being the way it is, he would lose money trying to sell the house, and if they move back to FL( which wouldnt been a horrid thing) we would have to try and find other renters, and than deal with that. Renting is such a hassle and we will NEVER do this again.

That sounds awful!

I don't care WHAT is broken -- you don't call someone at 6 in the morning! The ONLY time that should happen is in the event of major disaster (water main break, fire, death).

While you shouldn't expect someone to help when they come over.... WHO DOESN'T??? When we go to someone's home, I make sure to offer my assistance in the kitchen at least. Usually I don't even offer and just start helping clear plates away as soon as the hostess makes the first indication that she is ready for that!
But... dog messes? Made by her dogs?? If your dog can't (or won't) control their body you shouldn't be taking them to visit. And if an accident does occur, be properly embarassed and ask where the paper towls are to clean it up!

EXCATLY!!! Thats all i ask if for the wife to help out. They have a daughter and they make her do EVERYTHING, including cutting their meat or getting something to drink, even though, they will be right there!!! They make me so damn angry, i told C no more visits with them for a few weeks. The wife always comes over, PLOPS down on our couch and takes up half the couch. She leans back on our pillows, it makes me so angry. When it time to go, she will leave her cups and plates where she was sitting, wont say thank you, and just leave.

Im the same way as you Too, whenever we have gone to a friends house for dinner, i help grab dirty plates, help clean the plates, usually bring a few things over, and make sure to helpc lean whatever i can, unless they tell me NO, and im usually told NO, because they feel like ive done way too much. I cant help it, im just that type of person, so i cant understand, how someone can come by and NOT do anything, but lay out on a persons couch. Than J, C's friend, wil give me attitude about something, or talk to me, like a still a kid, and C has talked to his friend, a few times, telling him to back off. While J may talk to his wife like that, he doesnt need and shouldnt talk to me like that. I get so tired of them and theyre problems some days, i have to bite my tongue.

They sound a lot like some "friends" we quit spending time with! We'd go to their home and offer to help (respectfully -- never taking over or anything, just offering a spare hand where appropriate). They'd come to ours and quite literally take over (like assigning seating at the table or opening the refigerator and grabbing stuff out to slice and put on the table (which I hadn't planned to serve...)). Their kids were NOT well behaved at all (bad enough that I'd grab anything breakable that I care about and tuck it in our bedroom before they got there).
You get the idea.

Oh!!! And they showed up to a holiday dinner, knew I'd worked really hard on it, then said as I was serving that they were "on a diet".... all of them. (including the kids). Yes, they are overweight and I knew the woman was dieting. That is why I served lots of veggies and tried to keep it a healthy well-balanced meal. They hardly touched a thing! The best part was that one of the kids (10 or so) said to their mom as I was cleaning up -- "I hardly ate so I still have enough points to have icecream when we get home!"

O my! Yes like our friends. I am so sorry, and that would tick me off. They are almost as bad, like these friends got the lap band, and they have lost a lot of weight, so now all we hear abotu is how much they workout and how much weight they have lost. What gets me though, is they wont and dont eat fruits and veggies, they say its bad for you, and all they eat is meat and carbs!!! i SWEAR, we need new friends.

Okay, heres my cake from my class tonight, not the best, but im improving

Cake 001.JPG

Looks good! I don't see any smudges of run together colors or anything like that! (there is a reason I stick to non-decorated cakes :nono: )

What kind of cake did you frost?

Ooooo.... Most importantly.... Who gets to eat it :lickout:

GAH!!!!!

30 minutes before I leave work to go to my chemistry final! I am soooooo not ready!
I've only been doing the sections we were told we'd be covering and I discovered last night that there were entire sections (including whole chapters!!) that I didn't do because I thought we weren't covering them :nono:
In my defense, she did say we were only covering certain chapters and out of those chapters we'd skip sections. So I worked off of the "projected schedule" and reading guides and suggested problems..... STILL missed a bunch (that wasn't even mentioned in class and wasn't on any other test!)

I've been cramming in all I can since discovering that (including here at work!) because in the end it doesn't matter what did or did not get announced, posted, assigned, mentioned, etc -- all that matters is that she writes the test and I HAVE to know the material.

:errrr: :errrr: :errrr:

Thanks Too- it was a dark chocolate cake with buttercream chocolate icing. It was for C, and he LOVED IT. In fact it was his breakfast. LoL

I am so sorry about the Chem test, hopefully you do well on it, and pass it wit at least a B or C. I have had that happen to me before, and i know the stressful feeling. Just breathe relax and answer as many questions as you know, and than make the best estimated guess possible.

Gotta love multiple choice!

Chemistry final was almost all mult. choice (only non-mult was extra credit!) -- I was able to do a bunch and the last few I could narrow down and select between 2 or 3.

Anyway.... off to bed. Calc final in morning.

Still waitng on grades. We were told our calculus grades would be up "by noon Sunday"....40 minutes from now. He can't have them in much later than that because he's leaving tonight (tomorrow?) for a conference/award thing.
No clue when chemistry will be available. The teacher seems to have had some family emergency stuff the last half of the quarter so was behind on grading. I know there is a cut off point so she HAS to have the grades in by then, but I don't know when that is. I think it is something like one week past end of quarter?

It has been SOOOOoooooo nice to sleep this weekend and watch movies and just RELAX! I've got this one week without classes and then I'm back to studying. Have chemistry and microeconomics summer quarter (11 credits).

Hi Jessie :wavey:

How was your weekend? Did you get to do anything fun (or yummy)?

I got to sleep this weekend! It was so wonderful not having to worry about getting up early to study for some test or another. We pulled some weeds in the garden, but other than that pretty much just lounged around and relaxed.

Got my grades for the quarter. Chemistry was fine -- finished the class with an A. Calculus could have been better but it could have been worse -- finished calculus with a C

At least you passed the classes......also, i agree its nice to have weekends were you can sleep and relax. C and I went out on Friday night to see a free concert, and than Sunday and Monday we did a whole lot of nothing. It was wonderful, and we both needed it. Granted I didnt eat any good and diet approved food, but im back on my diet, and whats a weekend right? I have to call Delta, or check out the website and see how much its gonna be for us to take bags. I REFUSE to have a carryone bag anymore, all i take is a large purse and call it day, its too much to try and stuff a bag in a overhead bin, and than remove it while everyone is standing behind you.Than to carry the stupid thing in an unknown airport while waiting for your connecting flight, id rather have a cute sweatsuit on, with cute tenny shoes and a large purse that matches with glasses close to the outfit.( Yes, i have a serious problem with having things match!)

That is funny!

I don't fly commercial much at all (last time was.... 10+ years ago!) but HATE checking bags! In fact I managed to shove an entire week's worth of stuff into a carryon so I didn't have to deal with it.

When we had a mechanic fly up to look at the airplane for insurance stuff, we met him at the airport and had to get his bags that he had checked. What a mess! They announced over the speaker that his bags would be at X spot.... then correction they'll be at Y spot.... 10 minutes later.... back to X spot.... 20 minutes later.... the sign above Y spot says they are going to be there

I'm actually excited for the day we get ours restored and back flying (still several years away probably) so we can just go somewhere for lunch when we feel like it or take a longer trip and spend the night. (WA, OR, ID, part of Canada would be in the day-trip for lunch range)
The up side: Flight leaves when we're good and ready. If packing takes longer than expected the airplane will wait. If we're excited and wake up early we can leave early. If I want to pack every last piece of clothing I have in the house, I can (just has to weigh under something like 500 pounds).
The down side: Can't have wine with lunch unless we stay the night. When we get home, we have to wash the airplane.

O, that is so sad for the guy. I would have been pissed off if i was him. Its good and true about being able to leave whenever you want when you and B have your plane. Also, washing the plane would be a major downside, but flipside, no TSA people patting you down while you stand barefoot in the airport. It never fails, i always end up having to be patted down( I have a secret piercing, and i guess its detected sometimes in the metal dectors). C has gotten into a fight with TSA a few times while they are feeling me up  :x . Its amazing we havent been stopped completely for him arguing with them.

So i know my trip isnt for another 2 months almost excatly, but i GOTTA lose some more weight by than. First we are flying and i swear the seats get smaller each time :? . Second, we are going to FL, so we are going to the beach. I gotta fight into a cute swimsuit, and not look like a overstuffed sausage. Third, Its going to be hot and MUGGY, so i have to buy some cute sundresses and shorts( I dont even own a pair right now, sorry this list is long! Almost done)Fourth, I WANT to buy a whole new wardobe for the trip AND school, which happens to start a week later. Fifth, we are meeting his best friend's Mother. C has known this lady since he was like 4, and he views her as family, and this will be my first time meeting someone who is close enough for him to call family. ( He is an only child, no parents, only a few aunts and uncles)....Help me Too, i feel like i need to go into overdrive for the next 2 months.

Do you want to 30 Day Shred with me?
A bunch of ladies did it here awhile ago and the support/accountability really seemed to help motivate.

I went out and bought the DVD yesterday ($10) so I don't have to hang onto the Netflix one this time.

I'm down to one pair of pants for work/school and one pair of jeans. All the rest don't fit anymore (including some that had been too big ;( ). I've got three shirts I can wear. All the rest (not that I have a lot anyway  ) are too small. It is awful getting dressed in the morning and having the WORST stomach overhang you'd never want to see (I had to wear one of B's shirts the other day because my pants gave me TWO big tummy rolls :nono: )

Yesterday was my low point.... my jeans were waiting to wash (caked with mud from the garden) and I needed *something* to wear for scooping the yard and pulling a few weeds.... that is when I found my only pair of shorts can't button  ------ I actually seriously considered wearing a pair of B's shorts  :nono: ;( ;( ;(

We're headed to my grandparents' annual fish-feed (like BBQ/potluck thing but with deep fried cod, salmon, onion rings) and it is usually really hot over there. The only people NOT in shorts are the old guys gathered around the fryer! (and by old, I mean my 76 year-old grandpa is the youngest!)
I HAVE to fit into shorts and not look hideous by JULY 2!!!

Hmmmm, We could do a 30day shred, but can i use my workout tapes, they are AMAZING....15 minutes of one of these tapes means you are sweating like you ran 3 or 4 miles  .

I am so sorry you thought about wearing B shorts. I cant fit any of C's pants, he is actually very skinny( well his legs) and my butt is just too big to even think about putting them in his shorts or pants. I actually dont fit my pants, but its because im losing weight( too slowly), and i refuse to buy any clothes until our trip.( Yes im being stubborn).

It would be great if you could lose some weight by the fish fry, July 2 is enough time to lose like 10lbs, you can do it. Just 10 would be enough to be comfy.

How about we do like a weightloss thing between us, like 30day shred. You can use 30ds, and ill do mine( team beach body), and we can report back and whine together on here. LoL...its never a diet unless you whine.

Sounds good!

I did great with 30DS last time so I'm hoping that will happen this time too. The first week was :knockout: :knockout: :knockout:

I'm going to do the 30DS when I get home from work. May as well get a start on this thing!

Sounds good. Well start tonight. Whats your goal for weight loss?? Lets start small for 2 weeks

I know that it isn't recommended to lose more than 2 pounds per week, but I'm aiming at 10 pounds in the next 2 weeks. (like you said, comfortable!)

Last time I did 30DS, I was consistantly losing .2 pounds per day and every few days had .5 or even 1 pound drop without really trying (as in no diet change except making sure to drink water and only doing the one session of 30DS) so I think 5 pounds/week should be reasonably realistic and healthy.

How about you?

ETA: 10 pounds is also right about where my rings started to get tight (I am only wearing my e-ring right now because the extra band doesn't fit ;( ). I'd like to be able to wear my sparklies to the party so I can watch them go crazy sparkly in the sunshine!

Well my goal is to get 40 off by my trip( I know, i know unhealthy, but i have A LOT of weight to loss so ill be fine.)

So my goal is 10 lbs in 2 weeks. Ive lost almost 20lbs a week, so 10 over 2 weeks will be healthier than normal for me. LoL...

What are going to give yourself if you hit it. For me, i want to buy some MAC makeup

I think that as long as you aren't starving yourself or exercising an unhealthy amount, 5 pounds per week is fine! My general rule of thumb for myself is that as long as I am eating within my calorie range (and the right amounts of protein and other important stuff) and doing an exercise routine that I can comfortably do then it is a healthy amount.

To make sure I'm eating right, I'm starting to track on SparkPeople again -- it is just too tempting to cut way back on food to an unhealthy amount and that is bad.

Ooooooo..... reward for meeting goal!
My go-to celebration reward (Ben & Jerry's!) isn't a good idea so..... hmmm.......... I've got to think about that one!

It is tempting to cut back way too much. I know, ive fasted many times, and its so easy to fall into that when dieting.

I dont think Ben and Jerrys would be a great idea, lol....if i cheated like that, i would go to Luv Its custard, and its a local small ice cream stand, but its custard...so good.

Have you tried SparkPeople?

I don't usually do much stuff there, but they have a great food tracker that I like. Based on your information (height, current weight, goal weight, goal time frame (no more than 2 pounds/week loss), activity level (like I have desk job, so that is pretty low), etc) it shows you a healthy calorie range and then breaks it down further into protein, fat, carbs, etc so you are eating healthy amounts of all of these too.
