OMG, i LOVE your kitchen. I so want to see pictures when its complete. It looks amazing. I have no idea how you did the floors, but more powers to you. CONGRATS

How are your classes going?

The floors have a groove on one side of the board and a tongue on the other so it really just clicks into place. Measuring & cutting is pretty critical, but not too bad.

I painted the lower part of the walls and we both really like the gray color for that spot. Then I did a big patch of the "vintage merlot" that we picked for the top half (essentially an accent color)...... Yeah  .... we've got to go pick a different color (probably the one that was there before)!

I am SOooooo ready for home cooked food again! It has been over a week now without a usable kitchen. The marble will be completely sealed and ready for us to use the kitchen tomorrow.

Today is first day of classes this quarter. Physics will be challenging but the instructor is REALLY good. Same with chemistry (I haven't been yet, but I have had a class with the instructor before)

So how was the first day of classes??

My classes have been hectic. I have 2 study groups tommorow for the same class, due to the fact that there is an exam on thursday, and EVERYONE feels like they dont know what they are talking about.

1st day was mostly uninteresting. The usual what to expect talks followed by a bit of lecture.

This is going to be a busy quarter. All sorts of memorization for chemistry and lots of study/practice for physics too. We had our "short" lab today.... took the full 2 hour class and just barely finished in time -- and this was the super boring lab where we learn to use a ruler

Good luck on your exam!

Wow, 2 hours on how to use a ruler. My first Bio lab, we tackled 3 labs in 3.5 hours!

Thanks, im heading to bed, i firgure if i do happen to cram more information in my head tonight, than i dont know enough

I get that it was an important lab to do, but it was boring. Oh well... easy points?

The idea was to learn about significant figures, accuracy, and precission. All stuff we need to use in other labs. Maybe not as boring if I hadn't already done about the same thing in chemistry last quarter?

Gah! I am in a yucky, crabby, sad sort of mood today. The weather was supposed to be nice but is actually 64, cloudy, and raining. That on top of every thing else just is too much.
B is talking with a guy in another group at his company to see what sort of projects the groups in that area are doing. I'm stressed. I hate change and this is going to be change. New building. New people. Just... new. But I also know that he has to find a project to transfer to or we'll be in real trouble financially.
So... yeah. I want to crawl into bed and sleep. (late night, early morning :knockout: ) I just am soooooo stressed right now.

So how was your first week of school???

I think i failed my exam, im so worried. I hate waiting for grades, the suspense kills me. So yesturday, i signed for the school event called DASH-Delievering and Serving Hope, andd what a group of us students did, was get together, and makes sack meals for one of the Local homeless rescue. We made a total of 235 sandwich bags, and it was so touching to give it to them, and help out. While its not a lot, its something, and hopefully gets them through a day. I wanted to cry while handing out the food to families. It made me look at my life, and how much i can be wasteful, and made me thankful for what i had. It made me want to give more, and take less. ( Im crying right now DANGIT). It also made me look at people who spend way too much on stupid things.

Hopefully your exam went better than you think. The wait is always the worst. Does your teacher return quickly at least?

DASH sounds wonderful! I did similar activities with Kiwanis and it was always so heartbreaking. My family received help like that a couple of years and I was really happy to have the chance to help others. We worked in pairs taking bags full of groceries so that families in our community could have a turkey and all the traditional sides (plus more) for Thanksgiving. It was so sad seeing the kids in those houses so excited to see canned veggies and toilet paper.

First week was some odd combination of bored anticipation (took a couple of days to really get going) followed by     ;( as the classes got going full speed. My chemistry teacher was in a bad mood all week, didn't really lecture much, then handed us a huge stack of homework. I've got much of it sitting in front of me trying to see if I can figure any more out..... I leave for class in 2 hours :nono:
Oh.... and in the process of trying to get my chemistry figured out, I didn't start my physics so now I have a stack of physics hw due tomorrow that I haven't even started :nono:

Good news is we can cook in the kitchen again! We need to finish taking the tools back out to the garage, wipe counters off, and move the small things (microwave, coffee machine, etc) back in. (I'll post pics later this week)
Don't have baseboard on yet, but that is going to be a different project.

Sorry for not checking in this week. Its been super busy, and the week from hell

I found out i FAILED my exam BIG TIME. Luckily the professor drops your worst grade out of 5 exams. So I have to DOUBLE my study effort.
Also, had an interview for a club called AMSA, i got in, and took care of my dues.
Had a Behavioral Neuroscience exam today, i feel like maybe i got a B on that exam, but ill have to wait and see.

Congrats on having a home cooked meal and on the kitchen. It looks wonderful. Have you heard anything about B's job?? I ask, because C's coworkers called him this morning( and emailed), because they got layed off today, saying that they have to let them go, because they are eliminating the position( WHICH happens to be C's position) he is on his way to work right now, so within the hour, we will know if he still has a job or not. There was no notice at all, so im a nervous wreck.....ill keep you updated. Im so worried about him possibly losing his job, we have 2 mortgage payments, credit cards, and health bills, we will never be able to pay everything off, and the job market here in Vegas is horrid. *sigh*, im so worried, we make the bills now, but thats with him working and my unemployement, what are we going to do, if we have that loss of income

Just heard from C; they are going to keep Him and one other guy and thats it. Thank God he still has a job.

Yay!

I've been away from my computer since Wednesday so just saw your message. What a scary feeling! I'm sorry you had such a miserable week, but at least C still has a job.

Exams like that are tough. It helps to know that they drop one, but the pressure is really there for the rest. I've got a chemistry exam coming up on Tuesday and I think it will be my dropped grade. I feel completely unprepared and lost in this chapter :nono:

Still don't have any real news on B's job. His manager suggested a way to really make it clear to the managers above that his stuff is super important so he's getting going on that part of things. Won't change the evaluation at all, but might keep HR from stepping in and might get him the exception he needs to transfer within the company. The lunch meeting he had with a friend of ours sounded like it went well, but we've seen him several times since then and he seems to be avoiding B so I don't know if he'll be able to offer any suggestions or not. For now, we just hold our breath and do what we can to prepare for the worst.

Oh... and my front tooth may be breaking. I really need a deep clean ($800 :errrr: ) and the dentist is worried about long term (permanent!) damage. He didn't want me to wait a year for the cleaning (I thought I'd have insurance in a year) for fear of it getting worse.... it has now been two years. I think I'm just going to have to schedule and deal with it. My mouth hurts all the time and I really don't want any permanent bone damage (or broken off teeth!).

Completed kitchen!

Hey Too...Sorry for being MIA. Ive had the flu in the past week, and still feel like crap.

I love your kitchen!!! Can you come redo C's and I's??

Im so sorry about your teeth, i dont know what to tell you.

How are things other than that???

Ick! The flu stinks! Were you able to get notes for any of the classes you missed? Hope you're feeling better and able to catch up quickly!

Your kitchen is in line right after my mom's -- she asked which weekend we'd come do hers :))

Other than the kitchen, life is just about as bad as it gets -- I'm not wearing my ring any more. Maybe again some day, but I don't know. My family doesn't know and I don't want them to until we decide what we're going to do so I'll have to wear the ring around them on the rare occasion they come around. Long story. I guess it just comes down to the fact that both B and I have rather difficult, painful pasts and maybe we just each have too much emotional baggage to make it together. I don't know. For now we're just taking it a day at a time and not making any major decissions yet. He can't afford the house without my income and I can't afford a place for me and the animals on just my income. So... yeah.

Anyway, I've got to get back to making dinner -- I'd planned to have it done by now. We need to leave for holiday services in a little over an hour. Still have to eat (or face a 24 hour fast after 24 hours of already not eating :knockout: ), shower, and get dressed for services.

Feel better. I'll be back around Monday.

Thanks Too, i went to classes for exams. I have another exam on tuesday....boo. I feel like crap

I love the kitchen

I am so sorry Too about B and you. If you need anyone to talk to, please come here. I wish i could send you my email, so we could talk. I dont know what to say, but do whats best for you. Its sad you ahve to pretend to be okay when your parents around.

Ready for your exam?
Make sure you put the books away early enough to get a good night's sleep. I like to put the books away early enough the night before an exam that I can just relax and watch a movie before bed. If it is an afternoon exam, taking a little time to just read a good book or getting a yummy coffee helps me relax.

B and I are just taking things a day at a time. We both want to work things out so we're just trying to get through each day and pay more attention to what we each need.
I've got my ring back on, but it is more to avoid questions at school/work and a symbol of our commitment to work with each other towards the life we'd still like to share. I don't know where we'll be in a few years or even a few months -- hopefully together and happy.

Had no chemistry one day last week (instructor at a conference :appl: ) so I went and bought myself some new comfortable shoes and a set of warm cozy pajamas. Both are things I've needed for awhile but I just hadn't gotten around to it. So I had a few hours to just browse and pick out stuff that makes ME happy. I am loving my super soft fleece pj's  and my feet feel so much better now that I don't have to choose between wet feet or swollen ankles.

Anyway, got to run to chemistry. Hope you're feeling lots better.

Hey Hon, im feeling much better right now. Last week was hell, not just because of my flu, but with exams and grades. I FAILED everything last week, and now have to work doubly hard to pass everything. Good thing, most of my professors drop your lowest grade out of 3 or 4 exams.

So i just had my bio exam, i feel like i did MUCH better this time around. Not an A, but at least a C. LoL...

I am so sorry abotu you and B, i dont know what to say but take it one day at a time, and enjoy the moment your in. Sometimes, we get so wrapped up in our past AND the future, we forget to enjoy the now. That is something i have to remind myself, because i am ready to marry C, but than have to remeber that i should enjoy it now, incase the worse happens, and we arent thoughther anymore. Silly as it sounds, it helps. Though this weekend, while out, C was looking at my ring, and asked if i would be okay with my E-ring being my wedding band, incase we cant afford to get another, if he loses his job or we have too many bills with everything going on. I said that it was fine, its the thought behind the ring and the commitment which is most important.

Nice on finding nice warm jammies. I need some new long pant hammies to wear around the house, once it gets cold. As silly as thous sounds, ill most likely get them from KMART( Dont know if you ahve that there), but i have found some of the cutest and warmest jammies there. Along with nice undies( Playboy bunny undies that are SUPER DUPER SOFT). Also, i signed up for the rewards card, and can now go shopping and spend my points and not pay full price. Ill probabaly save them for christmas though.

I need some house slippers, thanks for reminding me, ive got to get some too.

What did you do for the weekend. C and i cleaned the house, put up halloween decorations, and went hunting for a halloween flag, and didnt find one. Sunday we went out to a new casino( if that swhat one would call it). Its called Margitaville, and i had a mango margita, so tasty, and than we went and had a few cocktails. Needless to say, i didnt make my morning class yesturday, we had too much fun, when we got home :naughty: , and were woken early by his friend calling us saying he was around the corner with the rent check at 7 am   . Though not going did give me a headstart on studying for my bio exam, and i got to watch him put up more decoartions and fight with the turtle.

Well gotta run, im meeting my friend for lunch at the dining commons on campus. Its pretty good actually, for 8 bucks, its a all you can eat lunch buffet.

Are you having people over for Halloween again this year? Your cupcakes and everything were really great looking last year!

That is great that C is thinking about the wedding! I think having your e-ring be the w-band is just fine. It is beautiful on its own plus that leaves enough room on your hand for anniversary bands later! (and the great joy of anniversary bands is being able to have lots and switch between them without having to explain why you took your w-band off  )

We have K-Marts around. I'm not sure where the closest one is though. I used to shop there all the time but just haven't been lately. The Macy's and Penny's both have really good sales so I do much of my stuff there. Hmmm... I think I drive past a Kmart every day on the way to work - I'll have to stop and see what they've got. I'd like to get some more comfy pajamas and I need a jacket or sweaters or something for winter too.

Slippers would be nice! My feet cramp every morning when I get out of bed and in the evenings too even if I'm wearing socks.
I love soft undies! They've got to be super soft and comfy or have so little fabric you never know you're wearing them 8)

Yom Kippur was this weekend (sundown Friday to sundown Saturday) so I took Friday off of work & school to cook a nice meal for Friday afternoon that would re-heat nicely Saturday night breaking the fast. Friday evening (6:00) to Saturday night (8:00) we were in and out of holiday services.
Sunday I was planning to spend doing homework but instead we had to fix a fence and then I had to block off the hole under the fence so Millie can't get under -- she got herself banned from the neighbor's yard (his dogs and ours had been going back and forth between the yards playing together for months) so I had to block it off until he was able to pour a concrete barrier the entire length of the fence. After that, B needed help with building sukkah walls (next major holiday/festival starts tommorow night).

Oh..... and our dishwasher died -- again.
I was running a load of dishes so I'd have the pans I needed to reheat stuff in on Saturday and the thing went CLUNK. When I looked over, Millie was staring up at it and smoke was coming out! :nono:
The guy will be out this afternoon to fix it - hopefully. Best part? The warrenty expired something like 2 days earlier

Funny school thing -- there was a quiz on Friday that I missed. It was done in teams of two so I took it on Monday with some guy that was gone too. I thought it was strange that she hadn't left room for our names after the "Names" on the quiz but we just wrote our names at the top instead. I also thought it was strange that each question had an answer shaded in gray. We just took the quiz and didn't think much of it. So when the instructor handed the graded quizes back to us yesterday, she walked over to me laughing and thanked me for our honesty...... turns out she had given us the answer key by mistake  and we still only managed 6/10

Yes, we are going to have people over for halloween. We are going to do the party on Saturday night, instead of Halloween, due to peoples work scedhules and what not. Im going to do Halloween cupcakes, most likely a vanilla with a crushed chocolate cookie on top with maybe a gummy worm or finger if i can find them. Than probabaly a red velvet, or a chocolate with peanut butter topping and filing. C already started doing the decortions and trying to firgure out how to do the smog machine and strobe light so our little man doesnt have a seizure.

I was kind of surpised about C talking about wedding bands and what not. I havent even looked at anything wedding related, its kind of depressing because we dont have a set date. How can i plan something without a set date, and its going to be so small, Ill be able to do most of the planning with a week. Maybe 2 if we decide to elope or do a DW.

Check into Kmart, they have come up in their items lately, and its actually pretty nice stuff. Im very picky about undies....so yeah. That is my best spot for undies lately.

OMG, im so sorry about the fence, and the diswasher. Its such a pain when something like that goes out. Though i will admit, i giggled when i read about the smoke and your puppy. LoL...Hopefully it wont be too much to ahve fixed or replaced. How old is it?? Do you have homeowners insurance, you could always call them, and have it fixed or replaced. My mother swears by it, and im trying to get C to get it. Depending on your area, it could be affordable. My mom pays 300 bucks a year, and than if somethign breaks down, she pays 50 bucks to have it either fixed or replaced.

It was nice of you to be honest with your professor. Some professors would be pissed, its nice she was nice about it.

I just met with my pre-medical advisor and he has me taking classes all the way to fall os 2014....BOOO, thats too long. I would graduate at the end of the fall semester of 2014.....*sigh* so far away.

Dishwasher :appl: :appl: :appl:

The guy was here for an hour -- the electric wires had burned. Took him all of 5 minutes to repair. The rest of the hour he re-did the plumbing under the kitchen sink for us (above and beyond what he is supposed to do!) so that the dishwasher wouldn't spill water out the air gap. He pretty much put in all new pipes/hoses under the sink :appl:

Total cost after tax? $140

We do have home owner's insurance but that is more for large items. When I set it up, I chose to have a much smaller premium with really good coverage but a high ($1,000) deductible. It is a REALLY good policy, but to keep it affordable ($600/year) we have to have the higher deductible. Any smaller problem is just not worth submitting a claim for.

Anyway, back to homework ;(

HAHA!!! THERES SENSE TO MY STUDY MADNESS!! I PASSED MY BIO EXAM WITH 75/100.....HIGHER THAN THE CLASS AVERAGE!!!!! :appl: :appl:

It is going to be a looooooong week.

Chemistry exam Thursday. Physics exam Friday. -- both worth pretty big parts of my grade.

The lowest exam score (out of 3) is dropped in chemistry... but I failed (26/50 :nono: ) the first exam so I HAVE to do well on this one.

Im sorry it going to be a long week for you. I know the feeling, I have a paper due today( rough draft) that i havent even started on, and i have to fill in my bio lab manuel( Sigh). Good thing one of your Chem exams will be dropped. It helps. I had the same problem with my first Bio exam.

So C and I made a total spur of the moment decision/purchase. We/HE bought a new TV yesturday. Not such a big deal, was on sale for just under 300 bucks. Problem comes in, when the abck is HDMI, and the dvd player, VCR player and DISH are all the coaxial cables. So we also had to purchase a new DVD player, and than a sound system to plug the other items into. It wouldnt have been such a bad decision, if we had realized that the dish would need to be replaced. It looks HORRID on the new tv. So instead of 300 bucks, we are looking at a grand. I wish we would have thought the purchase out, or saved for it a little bit over time. Now he is SUPER stressed, and we think we need to call a terminator out, because we have seen some little bgs around the house, and we think they are termites. Just what we need, termites to eat the house, and ruin the new tv!

I'm sorry! That stinks.
I've been there with the whole TV thing and have learned to ask LOTS of questions before agreeing to any technology purchase. (like -- does the receiver downstairs have enough open _____ plugs for that to go? Does the tv/projector use that sort of cable? What sort of adapters are we going to need, who carries them, what is approximate cost? How much space does it have to have between the back and the wall? What sort of cables will we have to buy?)
Yeah.... Worth it now that everything is set up but it was a miserable PITA process and I'm still irritated when I think about it!

Termites are no fun! Have you looked at getting a quarterly service contract with a pest control company? We had bees (wasps? yellowjackets? -- anyway, the mean kind that was actually making a nest IN the walls of the house) that we had to have someone out for a couple of years ago. They came back again the next spring so I signed for a quarterly contract. The one year contract actually didn't cost much more than a single treatment was going to and we've been happy enough with them that we continued the contract with them. Costs about $100 every 3 months, but we don't have any more problems with bees and on the occassion they start trying to build a new nest (happened once earlier this year) they come out free of charge and take care of the problem. (I also LOVE the side benefit of having almost no spiders in the house ever.... like 1 in the last 2 years!)

Good luck with your paper and the termites and everything. I've got to run to chemistry :knockout:

I know, i wish we would have asked a lot more questions, instead of going into it, blindly. *sigh* Things are still not settled, and I dont know when Dish will come out, we will need a need satetllite dish, and recievers in the house, including new lines. *sigh*, means, im going to have to give up a community sercvice event fro a day.

Im sorry about the bees. I dont even want to think about the termites. I might just pay fro the service in Jan. when i get my student aid. It could be his birthday gift. LoL...

Sorry about chem. Im on my way to Developmental Psy...and i JUST got my paper done.

Yay -- DONE is done!

I got super frustrated in one of my high school composition classes. No matter how much work I put into a paper, I ALWAYS got a B. Spend hours each day researching, noting references, drafting, editing, editing, organizing.... Get a B.
Show up 15 minute early the day it is due with no clue what to write about and hand in the first (and only) draft.... Get a B.
Not really great motivation that quarter. Luckily I got a different teacher the next year who had a different teaching style (much more feedback during the writing/revising process).

Sort of funny to look back on now.... come to think of it, I had that teacher in another class and never could get anything other than a B there either

I know, i feel the same way about a teacher i had in high school too. EVERY exam was essay form for 5 to 6 questions. In a way it prepared me for college, but its been so long.

So how is chem going for you??
I have a Bio exam on next tuesday....boo. I just had one not too long ago.( Like a week)

Another Bio exam? Already? Wow!
I guess one way to look at it is that the more exams they give, the less massive they are. I'm much happier taking 3 or 4 exams plus a final if it means that each exam is only 15% or so of my grade. Those classes with fewer exams have an awful lot of pressure.

Chemistry.... well.... I'm catching up so that is good. I just don't know if I've caught up enough to do well on the exam that is TODAY (EEEEeeek!). The exam is "only" worth 15% of my grade
I really want to do well on this exam because I need a good grade (A) out of this class to bring my GPA up a bit (I'm down to 3.4 :nono: ). The majority (like all but 2) of people going into the program I am trying to transfer into are accepted with a 3.5 or higher GPA.

Physics.... pretty much the same situation as chemistry except that big exam is tommow

How are you doing in your classes?

Yes, i suppose that is how, im going to have to look at it. It just sucks, it feels like you are cramming in a sense.

Im pretty much in the same boat regrading my GPA. I did HORRID my freshmen year, and have been slowly getting my GPA up. When i came back to school, my GPA was like 1.0.....NO LIE. Im at a 2.68 now, so hopefully after this semester ill be closer to a 3.0. It just sucks, because all of my friends who are pre-med, have damnnear a 4.0. It just means I have to work harder. ;( . Im so sorry about your chemistry class and exam.

So far im doing okay, im my Bio class i have a C, but hoepfully with all Bs on the rest of the exams, ill end up with a B in the class. In my Behavioral Neuroscience class I have a B, Developmental Psy, I have a B, and my Food and Beverage class I have a B. In my Piano class, i most likely have a C. Ill be happy with a C/B in that class. Im not aiming for an A. That professor doesnt like me very well, maybe its because i dont back down, and dont let her talk to me any kind of way.

So how are things with you and B??
