I am looking forwards to seeing "The Village" by the guy with the hard to spell name. It's gonna be scary!

I tried to go see The Village Saturday night but it was sold out. I've heard mixed reviews.
Does anyone else have a comfort movie? You know, something you like to watch when you're sick or depressed? Don't laugh...mine is Back to the Future.

I love to watch LIFETIME movies! I get so hooked on them....even if I tune in half way through...I must watch till the end! When you're in the mood for those kindof corney melodramatic movies...Lifetime is the best!!!!!

Spider-Man 2 is questionably BETTER than the first one. There were a few manipulative moments where they pull on your heart strings with silliloquies about heroes, love, and doing the right thing, but it didn't matter... the characters were so convining you let it wash over you in a summer movie bliss. The good thing about the Spidey movies is that they're almost less about the superhero powers and more about the people who happen to be involved.

In the rentals... I recently saw Cold Mountain which was very good. Easy to see how Nichole got passed over and how Renee got attention. Very much a breakout role for Renee.

Also, The Last Samurai which was terrible in the first 30 minutes, but once they got past the contrived excuse for why Tom was engrossed in the samurai village, then the charisma of the native Japanese actors really allowed the feeling of the movie come through. Tom was really dedicated to playing the part, I just think the first part was poorly conceived and directed.

Eurotrip wasn't nearly as funny as Road Trip, but then again "Stiffler" wasn't in it.

Thirteen makes you never want to have teenage girls and was based off of an non-fiction article, turned book called Queen Bees and Wannabees. Also good reads in this area are Odd Girl Out and Reviving Ophelia (but now we're getting into books).

The Perfect Score is about a group of kids who scam to steal the SAT answers, but discover that life is more than just a test. Cute, but not necessary. The individual characters were funny, and maybe it was just the actors that lent the humor.

I love Back to the Future as a rainy day pick me up, too.

Saw a TV ad for Exorcist the Beginning. Can't remember if it's a made for TV movie or if it'll be released in theaters. Read The Exorcist when I was in high school and slept with a light on for months. The movie scared me silly too until I saw it a second time and noticed that Linda Blair's makeup didn't extend down to her neck

Thumbs up for the first half of The Village....Thumbs way wayyyyyyyyyy down for second half. My hubby turned to me and asked "Where's all the killin'?"

Has anyone seen Supersize Me? I may never eat a french fry again.

Oh I can't stay away from those fries....

I saw the manchurian Candidate. It was fantastic.

I loved "The Village". Saw it today. It was something I wasn't interested in. That dated look to it isn't my thing. G/F turn to pick though. I thought the whole thing was excellent. The "twist" of the whole movie really just left me like...WOW!

Maybe I'm too easy to impress. Who knows.

Back to the Future...awesome!

One of my all time faves...Grosse Point Blank. Who's seen it?

Manchurian Candidate (2004) is passably good. Some of the plot didn't add up. Meryl Streep was positively creepy.

Lifetime movies are so predictable. There are two basic plots: One is that the evil adulterous husband abandons his wife and kids and the wife struggles to rebuild her life. The other is that the evil money-driven husband ignores his wife and she falls for another man. In movies, cheating is never the fault of the woman. Either the guy is cheating and the guy is evil. Or, it’s the girl that’s cheating, but she was driven in the arms of her lover because the guy ignores her and hangs out with his friends…or his obsessed with his job and money. It’s never that the guy is humble and nice and that the wife is a greedy demanding selfish slag who cheats on him. How about that for a plot?

Regarding Supersize Me, what does the guy expect after eating fast food all day? If you eat anything all the time for a month, you will get unhealthy. You can get unhealthy food ANYWHERE, not just fast food restaurants. How about Chinese food all day for a month? What about burgers in regular restaurants? Nobody has ever claimed that it is great for you, but people can eat fast food in moderation without becoming ill. I wish people would take some personal responsibility in eating. If it’s kids you are worried about, how about some parenting already?

Now on a lighter note, Dodgeball finally got released in Britian. I thought it was quite funny… in a stupid sort of way. It was along the lines of Zoolander, but it was a bit funnier than that. David Hasselhof’s cameo was the best part.

Update: Anchorman was quite funny. Will Farrell was in top form. Collateral was entertaining but predictable.

My pick-me-up movies are Blues Brothers and Airplane.

I love a good creepy Meryl Streep!

As for the Village, I just wanted it to end already. I wanted to walk out but I had to stay just to say I did. It took a turn for the worse half way thru.

I saw Collateral and I loved it also....

But today...I saw Garden State. Well, this is my favorite this summer. I would describe it as a very meaningful movie. It was certainly meaningful to me in a lot of ways. To make a long story short- guy comes home after years b/c his mother dies. He sees old friends and has a strained relationship with his father. This kid is just trying to find out who is he and trying to find some meaning in his life. Fantastic.

I LOVED Garden State too! Everyone needs to see it. I think it is the best movie in a long time! I hope it does not get over looked!
The Village was good.. I liked it.. but i can see how it would bore some people.
Haven't Seen machurian candidate yet. I want to.
Melissa

The Bourne Supremacy. Awesome... Matt Damon plays a assassin with a conscience convincingly. Just as interesting, taught, and intense as The Bourne Identity.

Plan to see Garden State next.

Saw Hero a couple of weeks ago -- luscious cinematography, special effects. Plot is simple, characters are strong. Very well done film.

Mine are
Bi-centennial Man
Kate and Leopold
The Quiet Man

My comfort movies are Father of the Bride, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Now & Then, Big...I'm a big fan of 80's movies!

I just saw The Forgotten last night - it was a really good movie and very startling at times. Even my fiance jumped a couple times and he's usually really calm during scary movies. I would definitely check it out if you're into suspense/scary stuff - great timing for Halloween!

Somewhat new to these forums - interesting read!

I recently rented Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind. Interesting movie. The only Jim Carrey movie where I forgot that it was Jim Carrey!
