I am an avid follower of all of your threads and I don't think you need a break from PS. You have wanted the RB upgrade for a very, very long time and I think you should stick with your RB search. I don't get the feeling that you're a colored diamond kind of gal and since an RB is your first choice you should save the EC for another time.

Nobody seems to think twice when they buy a car, drive it off the lot, and it immediately depreciates - taking a loss on a car is okay but taking a loss on a diamond is considered crazy - I don't think so. If taking a loss means you can realize your dream then go for it - you only live once. I'm assuming your DH is on board - what does he think? Is he okay with selling the pear back to JA? I was in JA's office in November 2008 around thanksgiving and I brought up your beautiful pear during my meeting with Julianna ... I know the clock is ticking on the buy-back ... I wish you luck with making your decision.

On another note, did you ever personally see the 5ct I1 RB that you were considering last year? If so, do you regret not buying that one?

Hello blingmyring,

Thanks for your lovely note. You're a sweetheart. :))

Yes, it's been a long long long search and I've passed up a few possibles. Ya' know, I don't know if I regret not buying that I1 stone. It was a real bargain (and Jim told me it was a good looker), but it's soooo hard to decide on something like that (doesn't look good on paper, regardless of what it actually looks like IRL) when you're buyying sight unseen.

WIth this 5ct, I intend to go and see it in person (after I've taken advice from the vendor and an IA). I have some candidates in mind. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks again for your lovely words and kind wish.

Hey Phoenix! Sorry I haven't replied until now as i felt I had nothing really to add. But after reading through again, I just want to +1 on waiting fro a gorgeous RB, cut the way you want and the carat size you want. It'll be worth the wait.

I agree with this! If you just held on a little longer I think that you would be able to afford something PERFECT! Plus, you have so many absolutely incredibly stunning rings to 'hold you over'!!!!!! The things I would do for your jewelry collection, Phoenix :swoon:

Thank you, ladies. You're adorable. :))

Debs, I can't wait to see your new ring. You must so excited! I know I am for you! :twirl:

Phoenix, I love to vicariously live through your diamond purchases, but I agree with other posters. This is a lot of money. You need to clarify what will make you really really happy.

In the summer I took a break from jewelry, other than my anniversary ring, weddiing band, and some silver studs, didn't wear jewelry during a week long vacation. Before the vacation I hid my jewelry box. It was a week after returning from vacation that I got around to unhiding my jewelry. Oddly, I didn't really miss the vast majority of my jewelry.

Other times I had done something similar, it clarified what I really wanted as far as jewelry goes, by what I grabbed or was looking for in my box but didn't have and wanted to wear.

Possibly do a similar experiment? Wear simple gold studs, your wedding band, and put all jewelry away for awhile. It will give you a clean slate to see what you truly are desiring.

There are basically 2 ways I go around making a jewelry purchase. One is by obsessively looking at tons of stuff on the internet and comparing and contrasting and refining what I want. If the want is stable (I keep thinking about the same thing) I know it's the real deal. For example, still want to redo my lost demantoid pendant! (someday).

The other way is I happen to see something in passing, on accident, etc and gasp I've GOT to have that.

The choices you are giving us don't seem to fall into either category.

For you? The round. You won't be happy with a step cut hon. They face up too small.
