Bruce talks about this and its so funny
when he was about 20 before he got his record contract him and his then band and his then manager Tinker West* drove out to California to try to get noticed by industry's types - in those days no one came to NJ
its so funny Missy - he says growing up he didnt know anyone who had been to NYC
he also talks about how back then they was no ' Jersey shore' because he invented that !
anyway anyway so they are all driving 3000miles across your beautiful country - and they can't stop because they have a deadline to be in California
its about 1970
the band and their gear in one vehicle and Bruce and Tinker in the other -
now bearing in mind Bruce can't yet drive
anyway they get separated and there is no way to find the other car because thats just how it was before cell phones
and Tinker is getting tired so he has to teach Bruce to drive but Bruce can't manage 1st gear - everytime he has to stop or go into first gear him and Tinker have to swap sets so Tinker isnt sleeping anyway because you know - Bruce can't drive !

it work out for the best - all arrive safely and get home again safely
and Bruce gets his record contract in NYC - with a borrowed guitar after taking the bus
(Bruce now has a licence )
