Well, Now Brett Kavanaugh Can Face His Accuser

I dunno, the door? she says what she says.. I think she had reasons for a door in her mind, and one was safety.. she now uses her master bedroom to house google interns so maybe in counseling she was able to understand and overcome her fear of not being able to escape. I don't think we can say she was blacked out drunk when she got the door and remembers the door.. but she has to contend with the picking and nitpicking just like Kav does, that's the nature of politics.

Hi Tekate. The door was the thing that made me wonder about CBF’s motives. By installing a second door to the front of the house, she and her husband were CLEARLY preparing the way for renting out a room for income. I don’t know if you know about Palo Alto. It’s an extremely tight housing market and illegal and legal rental units are ubiquitous in single family homes. She had eight people registered at her mailing address (six unrelated individuals) in 2011. So since 2008, she had six additional people renting out that space. Google interns are ideal because they rent for only three months at a time, are subsidized, work long hours away from home, and rarely have to cook. They are also a renewable resource. Perfect for a thriving rental business. She even admitted it. So I don’t believe her story that her trauma made her install a second door as an escape hatch, and the second door triggered her to tell her husband. While I found her testimony compelling and have no reason to believe she’s lying, I think she was exaggerating when she said that second door installation was because of agoraphobia produced by trauma. Everyone in Palo Alto wants an excuse to build a rental unit that can be accessed through a private door.

Listening to Grassley and Hatch speak right now is making me sick!

Light Bright, I believe Dr. Ford. I will never have a home with a glass sliding door. What is so hard to believe that these things stay with a women for the rest of her life.

They do say that the truth hurts.

I listened to the entire PC as well, and I think they were upfront, honest and very candid about the steps they took, why, and the pathetic position Dems’ actions put them.

It’s entirely one thing to take a position against how Kavanaugh ruled on various cases, how he applied precedent, etc. It’s entirely a different situation to do to him AND Ford what the Dems did in this process. I hope to hell they (Dems) learned a lesson, though they may not actually realize it until November.

It's like every day is an opportunity for this country to sink lower than we ever thought possible.

I’m so glad these old white men will probably not be around much longer. Young people view things much differently then Republicans do. Decency matters to many people. Hopefully Republicans will be learning the lessons.

They think women are just going to shut up. My guess is women will choose to vote.

Let those Republican dinosaurs rage against the light!:lol::lol::lol:

"It is impossible at this moment to envisage the Republican Party coming back. Like a brontosaurus with some brain-eating disorder, it might lumber forward in the direction dictated by its past, favoring deregulation of businesses here and standing up to a rising China there, but there will be no higher mental functioning at work. And so it will plod into a future in which it is detested in a general way by women, African Americans, recent immigrants, and the educated young as well as progressives pure and simple. It might stumble into a political tar pit and cease to exist or it might survive as a curious, decaying relic of more savage times and more primitive instincts, lashing out and crushing things but incapable of much else."

Might you ever find yourself in a place where you won’t be so blatantly, stereotypically discriminatory? Especially in the same breath as you’re expecting “decency” from people?

My attackers were of a different ethnicity than me, and I don’t go around life hating on everyone of that same ethnicity. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’d be labeled a ‘racist’ if I did.

You are sadly mistaken if you think this country is just made up of old white men.

@Calliecake

Who said it was?

I said your comments are discriminatory, and quite frankly, they’re offensive. You may not like ‘old white men’ for whatever reason, but they are human beings too. Maybe you should set your hatred aside for a moment, and consider your audience: there ARE members, tradespeople even on here - who likely fall into your ‘most hated’ category ... who are valued members of this jewelry community. You are generalizing an entire segment of the population as some sort of evil simply based on their gender and their skin color, and while those members may not post in these threads, I’m quite sure a few of them read them, and I imagine they probably don’t feel very welcome by your comments.

Maybe you need to step away for a bit and regroup ... and I mean that with the utmost sincerity.

Kavanaugh got angry, loud and belligerent. It totally riled them all up. Now Graham, McConnell, and Grassley are all trying to outdo each other. Alpha-male chest-beating at it's finest. God I miss class and civility.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Hola, I know all about Palo Alto. :) and I have a very close, long time friend who lives in Santa Cruz and remodeled the inside of her home so can do just this! rent out to 2 young students. She went thru a divorce and had zero money. I don't necessarily buy that she wanted to cash in on the hot market because she has a home on Santa Cruz also.. so money wasn't that big an issue, but I won't say it wasn't either. I am unsure why the door had to be in the front, seems odd to me if you were putting in a rental room to put the door in the front.. who knows.

I've read all you have said before. She rents out her space to co-ops at Google she said.

Have you read what she said:

https://heavy.com/news/2018/10/christine-ford-second-door/

I believe she could have wanted the door for both having been a #metoo(er) I have never gone into a garage without the door staying open. I think sexual assault is a mind-bending experience and some people may be able to thrive and put it in its place others may suffer.

Personally I think it happened, I think he and his bud were drunk, they didn't think it was a big deal and moved on in life, both drinking and drinking.. and she went on to college and got her PhD.

I think his tantrum shows just how unfit he really is.

If your word of the word "most" is in reference to PS then I might agree with you but I do not if you are referring to the nation as a whole. We'll see how the races turn out.

As far as dope smoking and cocaine snorting, I could not care less which president did it in college, nor how much any college student drank. But the hypocrisy is out for all the world to see in this case. Just like the Keith Ellison situation.
I agree with you red that past mistkakes/misteps shouldn't follow you for the rest of your life. However, are you okay with him perjuring himself? Many who knew him at the the time have come forward to contradict his testimony that he didn't drink heavily in college. His yearbook and the recent letter that he wrote certainly support their claims that he was a very heavy drinker in college. Why lie about this under oath and try and downplay "partying" as a youth? He lied to the senate about the meaning of several sexual terms that he wrote in his yearbook, again why perjure himself?

Whether I believe Ford or not, Kavanugh has proven himself to be untrustworthy and unfit for such a position both in temperament and ethically.

So have you posted what sites you use to make your judgement call on November? I would like to read it.. (just as long as it isn't Brietbart I will never go there).

Perhaps your comments about Dr. Ford are offensive to some? Many people who read these boards have experienced a @metoo situation, I've had several. Mine were all white guys, I don't hate white guys, but I do hate being ruled by a minority of old white guys, old white guys who don't understand the @#blacklivesmatter, don't understand #metoo, white guys who think corporations are people too!, white guys who don't even understand how entitled they are. If some old white guy finds offense at what I just said, I say to him: Come out of the shadows and let's have a talk.

Maybe we should all take a break.

@the_mother_thing , What are you talking about? No where have I said I hate anyone. I’m married to a white man and he feels exactly like I do.

We live in a country where everyone should be treated equally which seems to threaten these men in power. Five republican white men came out today and spoke for the republicans. When we see a picture of the Trump administration. It’s mostly white men. That is fact.

Kavanaugh lied under oath. For that reason alone he should not be on the Supreme Court.

Bernie Sanders is a hero to many of us young and old alike. He’s an old white man. Adding racism, ageism and sexism to our arguments is stereotyping and false.

If you remove those things you take exception to were removed would you find him fit to sit on the bench? Were you fine with his nomination before his testimony on that day? As Cory Booker stated "It doesn't matter whether he did this or not..."

@Tekate

The difference between what I’m posting about the Ford/Kav situation and the discriminatory stereotypes you/Callie keep posting is that I’m sticking to the facts of THIS case, what THESE people (Ford/Kav) are saying/doing by their own words.

I’m not making it personal generalizing an entire segment of society as scum based on their gender or skin color. Just a smidge different, as I’m sure you’re savvy enough to understand.

Crime is about individuals not whole segments of society.

Even if I did not beilieve Ford, which I do after watching both testify before the committee, one can not overlook the fact that a sitting federal judge that is being considered for a lifetime appointment to the supreme court lied under oath.

That isn't what I asked you. The circus to destroy him was never going to end up any other way than this and Cory Booker's comments confirmed that. The Dems are disgusting IMO.

I hadn't given him much thought prior to the allegations. Ideologically, no I do not agree with him, but that doesn't disqualify someone.

While we are on it, you didn't answer my question. Do you support someone after they commit perjury, just because you agree with their ideology?:geek2: Why lie about such things?

I agree with your position as it relates to the sexual assault allegations, nothing was proven for or against. But his flippant, arrogant, evasive attitude, in my opinion, undermined his credibility and then he made several misleading statements and some out right lies.

No perjury has been proved but I am sure the Dems will go down that road and get nowhere. As far as temperament we view this completely differently with respect to Kavanaugh.

Since we are quoting Booker, let's be fair and look at the totality of what his statement is, not cherry pick talking points.

My hope is beyond the vicious partisan rancor that is going on, beyond the accusations, we don't lose sight of what this moral moment is about in this country, and ultimately ask ourselves the question: Is this the right person to sit on the highest court in the land for a lifetime appointment — when their credibility has been challenged by intimates, people that knew the candidate well as a classmate, when his temperament has been revealed in an emotional moment where he used language that frankly shocked a lot of us? And then ultimately, not whether he's innocent or guilty, this is not a trial, but ultimately have enough questions been raised that we should not move on to another candidate in that long list put together by the Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society? Move on to another candidate because ultimately the Supreme Court is not an entitlement. Just because you went to Yale or were president of your class doesn't entitle you to the Supreme Court. This is a sacred institution, and the people who should be on it — whether you agree with their political or judicial philosophy at all — the people who are on the Supreme Court should preserve the integrity of the court and be beyond the reproach of these difficult partisan times.

Me too! To be 100% honest, even though he's very liberal, it took him a few conversations to understand where I was coming from when I said that sexism is still super rampant and that lots of people who hated HRC did so because she was a woman (and bc the stuff she did would be no big deal if a man had done it). But he quickly understood where I was coming from, and now is much more in tune with how women are treated poorly by many men (and other women, TBH) in society. I think he didn't see it since he isn't friends with anyone who treats women poorly or who is sexist. It's easy to think "sexism doesn't exist" when you don't see it. But he's open minded and intelligent, and listened in a nonjudgmental way, never uttering, "BUT NOT ALL WHITE MEN" :)

Callie, IDK why certain posters are missing the blatantly obvious underlined part of your post. No one actually thinks you hate all old white men, or apparently, only ones with reading comprehension issues

Well I remember being (pleasantly) surprised when I asked this guy I've been seeing casually, what he thought of the ford and kavanaugh testimony. He is Republican and there are many topics that we disagree on! And he said quietly (he watched both testimony). I believe her. She mentioned it to people years before the nomination, she has no reason to lie. He feels the Republicans should have withdrawn the nomination.

I think the one thing the GOP doesn't get, is that that there are a lot of regular folks who are not strongly political, who disagree with what the GOP is doing with this candidate. I have no idea if it is enough to get them to vote (the guy I see doesn't vote). But it is certainly enough to make people view the party negatively. But who knows, maybe they don't care.
