Well, Now Brett Kavanaugh Can Face His Accuser

Oh I read and listened to the whole thing and stand by my comments and view of that opportunistic sleaze ball groper.
Just because you don't respect/like someone doesn't mean that they don't have a valid point. Don't know enough about Booker to form an opinion, but what he said rings true. Kavanaugh's character has been called into question and warrants a closer look. The SC should be held to a much higher standard and there are many other qualified candidates with similar ideology. What is the motivation for "ramming" him through. Could there be other motivations https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump-gamble-court-case/

How do you feel about the republicans treatment of Merrick Garland?

So now you think I’m saying all white men are scum. Again, you are wrong.

Well what ARE you trying to say when you continue to generalize by race & gender? Honestly, it’s been nothing of substance that I can see; just the same statements over and over about “these old white men think women are gonna take this” (paraphrasing) and such. That doesn’t communicate anything of substance except that you appear to have a lot of bias toward a specific segment of the population for some reason. And I’m being nice by not using the same types of labels liberals toss at republicans when they demonstrate the exact same behavior.

And again, without it being anything of substance, it’s to the point that it’s really just plain offensive. Hold individuals - not segments of people - responsible for their actions/words if they do something wrong.

Thank you @telephone89 . I appreciated your post and am glad most people understood what I was trying to say.

Five Republican men came out to speak for the republicans today. There is something deeply wrong in our country when whatever a man says is immediately viewed as truthful and women are not believed. Women are not raping themselves and when you look at the statistics many men are getting away with it. Only 6 out of a every 100 rapists are sent to prison. @the_mother_thing , After our conversation Saturday evening I feel we view many things differently. It upsets me that my nieces will live in a country that values men more than women. If a women had acted and said the things Kavanaugh did at the hearing, you would be slamming her for the next year. She would be labeled hysterical, hormonal and bitchy. Yet you stand behind a man who deliberately lied under oath. Wrong is wrong. Lying used to be considered a bad thing in this country. Lying under oath was a crime. Trump has made it completely acceptable.

Republicans acted like Obama was the worst person history for wearing a tan suit and none of you bat an eye at the awful things Trump has said and done.

Callie, IDK why certain posters are missing the blatantly obvious underlined part of your post. No one actually thinks you hate all old white men, or apparently, only ones with reading comprehension issues

Well, who exactly are “these” people? She’s not naming them, posting links to material that identifies them; heck, she’s not even specifically identifying what “these” people are doing that is so wrong. What exactly are they doing that is so abhorrent to earn them her furor?

In the majority’s SJC press conference today, I saw 5 or 6 people (elected senators) conduct a press conference outlining the actions they took, their findings, and taking questions from the media. I thought they were doing their job and sharing with the public (since the public cannot legally view the FBI docs) what they think and next steps. I saw the Dems do the exact same thing earlier, and I thought the exact same thing: they’re doing their jobs and communicating with their constituents.

Is that some sort of crime? To do the job you were elected to do?

Did they kill a litter of kittens? Kill a person? Assault someone? Trip Feinstein walking down the hallway?

I think the one thing the GOP doesn't get, is that that there are a lot of regular folks who are not strongly political, who disagree with what the GOP is doing with this candidate. I have no idea if it is enough to get them to vote (the guy I see doesn't vote). But it is certainly enough to make people view the party negatively. But who knows, maybe they don't care.

I think they don't care. I suspect they feel that running the risk of losing the House for a while is worth getting the guy who will clearly support their agenda and do what they want on the Court for the rest of his life. Evil wins again.

These Republican senators who spoke for republicans today are Grassley, Hatch, Cornyn, Lee and McConnell.

So how do we move past politics and discuss issues from a fact based stance? These are issues that affect all Americans. Questions of character are certainly pertinent for a position that should belong to a person that should be beyond reproach. Temperment, a respect for the law and the ability to take an impartial approach are essential in a candidate. No one is entitled to be a SCJ, just as you or I are not entitled to any job for which we are a candidate. His testimony is a job interview, would you honestly hire this person if he were an applicant at your business? He danced around answering questions, was rude, belligerent and exposed deeply partisan conspiracy theories quashing any semblance of impartiality.

Are you really not able to follow the thread?? Callie's comments were in reply to a PP in reply to an article about republican senators who think there was "No corroboration for Ford's claims in FBI report".
No need to post links to materials that name the people when you are literally replying to a post about them . I guess that's where that liberal critical thinking comes in eh.

What exactly did they do wrong? And what does their age and skin color have to do with it?

Others may disagree, but I view the hearing with Ford separate from his previous nomination hearings. His first hearings were definitely a ‘job interview’. Last Thursday’s hearing is like NO job interview I have every seen/heard of/participated in. It wasn’t a court of law, but it - per Sen. Hirono - was a court of opinion/credibility (I can’t recall off hand which she said). I take no issue with his ‘self defense’ in that hearing. If Senate Dems were put off by it, perhaps they shouldn’t have assassinated his character, family and name by their mishandling of the allegations in the first place.

I won’t comment on allegations of perjury at this time because they have not been formally put forward by anyone other than those who simply want to continue the character assassination and fuel the fire.

I think we have already covered his temperament as it relates to this circus. I forgive any indignation he showed to those that deserve it. They made it partisan and he responded.

I feel so bad for Ford. She did what she felt was right, at risk for herself, and disgustingly, the Republicans are disseminating fake news and fake photos to demean and disparage her. One is of some teen wearing glasses and braces saying that is her, see she wasn't good looking enough to rape (it's not her btw but even if it was, what a HORRIBLE thing to say). Another is a photo of a topless woman drinking and dancing (also not her). Can I say this is disgusting? I went on Snopes and now there are about 10-12 conspiracy stories out about Ford sprouting up like mushrooms. Like a well oiled machine.

And this is our President, the man accused by 19 women of sexual assault or harrassment. This wonderful inspiration who pulled his wife Ivana's hair out when he got mad at her.

"You've got to deny, deny, deny and push back on these women," Trump said, according to Woodward. "If you admit to anything and any culpability, then you're dead. That was a big mistake you made." "You didn't come out guns blazing and just challenge them. You showed weakness," Trump told the friend, according to Woodward. "You've got to be strong. You've got to be aggressive. You've got to push back hard. You've got to deny anything that's said about you. Never admit."

(this is just for those curious about the hair pulling incident. It was a sealed sworn deposition for the divorce. Trump was furious that a “scalp reduction” operation he’d undergone to eliminate a bald spot had been unexpectedly painful. Ivana had recommended the plastic surgeon. In retaliation, Hurt wrote, Trump yanked out a handful of his wife’s hair, and then forced himself on her sexually. Afterward, according to the book, she spent the night locked in a bedroom, crying; in the morning, Trump asked her, “with menacing casualness, ‘Does it hurt?’ ” Trump has denied both the rape allegation and the suggestion that he had a scalp-reduction procedure. Hurt said that the incident, which is detailed in Ivana’s deposition, was confirmed by two of her friends.)

The 1990 divorce case between the two Trumps was granted on the grounds of Donald’s “cruel and inhuman treatment” of Ivana. The settlement, under which the Trumps agreed on the division of assets, was finalized in 1991. Her divorce involved a gag order that keeps her from talking about her marriage to Donald Trump without his permission.

Disgustingly Dems made it a public affair.

Some guy on my timeline shared a picture of Kristen Gillibrand with Bill Clinton and said it was Ford and they were in cahoots. I mean, how dumb are these people???

Oh you have proof the dems leaked her name? Do tell!
LOL. The Rs didn't even know about it so it wasn't them that's for sure. So we have Dems on committee, their staff, and her lawyers. Who did it?

Surely innocent until proven guilty, right? Do you have corroborating evidence to back up your claim, Red?

Well I am capable of deductive reasoning and listening to her testimony of who knew what when thereby gleaning that it was one of those three. I will cede to assuming that all three groups of people are democrats.

Do you have any other silly questions? BTW I am sure that the investigation into it will come up with who leaked it.

Infinitely dumb. There is no ceiling. THE LIMIT DOES NOT EXIST (mean girls, anyone??)

Me too. That's why I know boof doesn't mean fart, devil's triangle isn't a drinking game and the Renate alumni doesn't refer to a group of "good friends."

While the odds are better it was DiFi’s or Eshoo’s staffs, I actually wouldn’t be surprised in the least if it wasn’t someone on her own attorney’s staff. They might have spoke up to keep Ford ‘safe’ during the hearing, but they strike me sketchy and not appearing to meet the standard of ethical representation of their client by failing to tell her about the committee’s offer to travel to her, not to mention the other partisan ties they have (aside from just having been referred by DiFi). Color it how you want - they clearly have motive based on their political interests.

You'd better get that evidence to someone quick. ;))

Didn’t DiFi say she kept it confidential until it was already made public? DiFi herself said in the hearing she didn’t share it with anyone. If she DID share it with Republicans, I’m pretty sure she’d have said so in the hearing, if for no other reason than to deflect the heat off of herself.

@the_mother_thing , Google the Republicans remarks today. You can hear and see it all for yourself. I imagine you will agree with every word the same way you support the President no matter what lie or disgusting things he does or says.

And the way that republicans treated Merrick Garland?
I can agree with you that both parties can behave badly.

Nope. Actually I am glad that McConnell did what he did. Probably like anyone who was happy about the ACA. Garland did not have his name dragged through the mud for political purposes so it was not in the same stratosphere. He merely did not receive a hearing as Rs were in control of the Senate and made a political calculation.
