It's funny; I don't "see" it as a rainbow but just a beautifully harmonious grouping of shapes and colors!

How do you photograph a color-change stone?

Colour change stones are notoriously hard to photograph. I have a colour change garnet with a similar issue. There's a similar complaint in just about every thread on alexandrite - the camera doesn't capture what the eye sees.

The basic problem is that cameras see colour differently from our eyes,
as explained here:

There is no easy reliable solution. Alternatives are: selective editing (as in the linked post); 'wrong' white balance (so the stone looks right but the background doesn't); dumb luck.

My mother's heirloom from the 70s from dad's journalistic trip to Israel. Fun story about a merchant who talked him into entering his store then offering him this ring at one price then a lower then lower then lower one till my non-gem enthusiast dad bought it for a homecoming gift for Mom. I remember the night he got home from the month long trip, I was 3 and I can see their shadows embracing at the door and him pulling this from his pocket and her gasping. I would sneak into her jewelry box through the years and try the ring on when I was a small child. I remember she'd only wear it on special occasions, going out to dinner and such. It's been well-loved, and I was tickled as an adult recently when she decided to give it to me finally.
