Today called for classic white pearls. Akoya 7-7.5 mm AAA pearl earrings and 8-9 mm freshwater AA+ pearl strand all with silver overtones from PP along with a silvery white baroque Tahitian drop from Kojima set in 14kt white gold by my local jeweler, G Allan in Minneapolis. Worn with my best white South Sea pearl ring, 14 mm pearl from Eastern Trade Winds set in 18 kt red gold and palladium with diamonds and moonstones by Stephen Vincent Design in Minneapolis. Felt great today. :appl: :wavey:

Fly Girl, your South Sea ring with moonstones and diamonds is really, really beautiful. Your Cherry Tahitians are lovely, I'm just not that into the lighter shade of green yet. Thanks for the neck, ear and hands shots! It's a treat to see these.

Edit: Are you still debating whether to keep the lighter shade of green Tahitians? Before Pearls of Joy sent these to you, which pair of earrings did you pair with your necklace? Do let us know what's your decision.

Thank you PearlGem, LitGeek, and bsomlo.

You have a very good point, PearlGem. Up until now my go-to Tahitians have been these blue studs that I purchased from Jose at Tahitianpearls.biz to go with my first Tahitian necklace from Sarah at Kojima. I also have a pair of Kamoka peacock studs, but they are a bit heavy for me so I tend to wear them less. These greenies would fill a hole (not a gaping hole but still a hole) in my collection. The other thing they have going for them is that they fit my recently acquired red gold earrings perfectly. The eyepins have to be the exact right size to slide on and still not slide past the backstop. Still thinking... :|

I heart the teal green dangles. Kevin has some lovely things!!

Some wheat (drops side drilled and strung like wheat) doubled action in fading natural light:

That really is such a lovely set bsomlo

Fabulous!!

They did get a bit "pokey" so I ended up un-doubling them and wearing them as a long single strand over my dress. Doubling them over a turtleneck, if they will fit, will be more comfortable.

I was putting on my necklaces this morning and accidentally figured out another way to style my strands. Two small baroque akoya strands are doubled using pearl shortener. I put on the larger strand last. Put one end of the clasp under the other two strands, then cross both sides of the necklace to the opposite sides in the front. Fasten the clasp in the back. Voila, you have a dew drop knot in the front. The last strand must be slightly longer than the first two.

Wow! Blue baroque akoyas are in my wish list! Clever styling. Thanks for the explanation.

Beautiful akoyas HHPmom! Love the way you are wearing them :appl: :appl:

That looks beautiful!! I wonder if I could do that with my ripples. I do have varied lengths.

Hi! Fly Girl,

Your necklace and new earrings do have similar teal color. When I look at them again, the teal earrings don't really match your necklace in terms of shade, shape and size. The pearls of your necklace are baroque with some delightful overtone and much larger than your earrings. However, your earrings are round, lighter teal with little (to no) overtone. Are these the reasons bothering you?

If you were to email the photo of your necklace to the online merchants again, they might be able to find a better match for you. If they don't have them now, I believe they can keep an eye for you in their next purchase. Furthermore, baroque pearl is more affordable than the round one. A lot of people say it's worth waiting for the right one. It's true, you didn't compromise on your Special SSP ring which you set with moonstones.

Fly girl, your Kamoka Earrings in Peacock and the new Kamoka Aubergines are stunning! Do you remember their size?

Edit: I must say that like your Kamoka earrings in peacock more than the new teal earrings.

Thank you, PearlGem. My Kamoka earrings are just shy of 10mm, so were priced as 9s. They are gorgeous. Kamokas are special and yes, the other Tahitians don't match up, but then, they didn't cost as much either. It is not terribly important to me to have the pearls match. I enjoy wearing all of them. :))

Here is my "not quite white" medium ripple set from Catherine Cardellini. The necklace is too long, so I knotted it:

Stats for those who are interested:

"I've been slowly collecting up the white medium ripples and now I have enough for a necklace.
This one looks cream in artificial light but in daylight all the pretty overtones pop out. Lots of peach, some green, blue, pink and pale gold.
Strung on powerpro and knotted.
Lots of metallics.
Grade:
AAA
Pearl Size:
10.5mm x 12.7mm down to 9.7mm x 11mm at clasp.
Length:
19.75 inches (50.17cm)
Clasp:
Handmade rolled yellow gold hook and eye.

I'll get close-ups in daylight at some point.

bsomlo Love your "not quite white" pearls! They look lovely with your complexion.

Bsomlo: I shall be honest and say that this strand lacks some oomph that you have in some of your other strands (or maybe the souffles and goddesses are hard to top). You didn't create a thread to rave about it so I am curious to know what you really think about the strand if you don't mind? :loopy:

icy To me, there is something so classic and elegant about simple white pearls. They just ooze sophistication...think Coco Chanel. I think bsomlo's strand has a lovely glow to it and looks marvelous paired with those drops. I have quite a few white pearl projects in the works...they just call to me :wink2:

How many days until the show? You must be beyond excited for it!

No I don't mean that white pearls are not nice - and personally I still WANT a wSSP TDF strand, akoyas, etc... But she just didn't sound as gushily excited about this new strand as she did for others.

Now you got me all curious about yours...

You know what, I am now obsessed with Taobao. Like this beauty that I found...

And I am trying to tamper my expectations about the show in case it turns out to be a total disappointment. :?
Starts on Saturday!

Now I get what you are saying :loopy:

Well I hope the show is amazing! You must put your blinders on until Saturday

icy is correct. The pearls are lovely -- each is a little different from the others. I'm not madly in love. I'm waiting to get Kevin's to see the comparison. If they were larger and more drop shaped...

I'll start a thread now.

Fly girl..those earrings are beautiful! And the ones that you find are too heavy..I'm going to have a search cause someone was just talking about that problem elsewhere and some new 'backs' were suggested that helped distribute the weight better. Apparently they make heavy earrings much more wearable...now I just have to remember were it was that I read it... be a shame to not be able to wear them more often ! ( I do like the tealy blue ones )

Icy_Jade...those Tahitians .... mmmmmmmm ... luuuurrrvvvely !!

katbran - I do have jumbo backs for the heavier earrings, and I know about the Lobe Wonder patches. I'm just not sure that I want to bother sticking patches on the back of my ears in order to wear heavy earrings. It is a personal choice on whether to do that or not.

I wore the tealy blue ones the other day when I knew I would be home after 3 hours. I recently had a talk with a local designer, and she talked about some earrings being all-day earrings and others being evening only. And, she wasn't referring to style, she was referring to comfort. :naughty:

Breast cancer scarf I received from running Komen Race for the Cure on Saturday. There have been TV commercials of various actresses advertising Fordcares dot com where you can purchase merchandise that support the cause.

Please wear pink to support breast cancer awareness during October, purchase Pearl Paradise's Continuing Bridget's Legacy item through PP's facebook or any organization that supports the education and raise awareness of this disease.

Figs today. I just adore this set -- the shape of the pearls, the size, the color, the length of the necklace. Someone told me that the earrings look like pears today. That's true!

figs + pears = delicious :lickout:

My pastel tahitians.

Looking down (guess this explains why I like ropes - at least I get to see and enjoy my pearls):

And using the mirror at a store:

Icy -- that looks marvelous on you!

Ah, well that Lobe Wonder was the best I could do as a suggestion lol I'm looking at a little pile of Tahitians that need to be made up as earrings and two of them ,that I was planning on keeping as they match a necklace I have ,are now looking a bit hefty at 13mm ... I might be in the same situation with those puppies. *puts Lobe Wonder on shopping list

Icy that necklace is wonderful..love the length and the size of the pearls...and the colours...and ...everything :appl:

Thanks Katbran and Bsomlo. It was a good lighting day (plus long conference calls = lots of time fiddling with pearls)!
Wore my Andy Muller strand today and no such luck.

Bsomlo and icy you booth look fabulous in your pearls :appl: :appl: :appl:
