Hi everyone,
35.gif

I've recently noticed there are more Asian posters amongst us and since I am one myself, I would like to get to know more information. After you have answered the poll, do post an entry with some more on yourself!

To start: I'm a 26yo chinese female, born and bred in Singapore. And diamonds, loves it!!

There''s no category for me! 40 y.o. male, Canadian-born Chinese. Currently obsessed with fiancee''s diamond.

Z.

Tomatoe, first I would like to thank you for your work in consolidating the pictures in the SMTR thread.

I am American born Chinese, have lived in California all of my life. Both of my parents were also born and
raised in California. We spoke English at home so I know very little Cantonese (what little I learned from
my grandmother before she passed away). What little I do know are words for food, the key to my
heart (other than diamonds).

ABC all the way! 1st generation, though, and I speak Cantonese with my parents.

Nice to meet you!! I'm sorry! And I also realised I left out a choice of "Born and bred in Asia but currently living in US/ AUS/ CAN.

C: Thanks for the kudos! Gotta to say again, I love

love your ring!

ABC, but my dad was in the military so I lived in Taiwan for a few years when I was in elementary school. I speak, read, and write fluent Chinese. (Mandarin) More importantly, I can order food, ask for the bathroom, and haggle in Taiwanese and Cantonese as well.

Tomatoe, thank you so much for your help with SMTR and this post is so nice of you too

Hi tomatoe! I''ve noticed the same thing myself, esp in the Anxious group!

I''m actually a half-breed (LOL). My mother is first-generation Chinese American (both of her parents emigrated from China), and my father is of Danish descent. Like cflutist, my mom spoke English at home, and her parents didn''t even teach them how to use chopsticks until my mom (the oldest of 6) was in her early teens! Talk about culture immersion!

Ooh, a new club! I''m 19 (will be 20 in 4 days) and Canada-born Chinese, also first generation. I voted for the first choice for lack of a better one. I speak Cantonese.

I picked #3 because it is the closest. Born and bred in Malaysia but now living in the USA.

ABJ...born, raised and lived in California my whole life. im fourth generation, so ya, not much Japanese spoken at my house. I really would love to learn though..took some classes as a kid and in high school, but when you dont consistantly use it, you lose it!
Just got back from vacationing in Japan..and loooooooove it...cant wait to go back! Makes me wish i could just pick up and live there for a while.. :)

Highlight the smilie in Leonid''s post for a surprise.

American born Korean.

Was born prematurely in Sin City to a Bar owner dad and a Black Jack dealing mom. We lived there until I was about 8 years old and then we made the big move to Sunny California so that my brother and I could grow up to be something other than 1. a casino dealer 2. a "dancer."

My parents live in NorCal and own a Mexican restaurant (yeah, weird I know). I came down to LA for school (go Bruins!) and ended up staying. I just bought a condo this year in Orange County so I''m pretty set on staying down here. My parents are thinking about retiring down here as well so they can see their grandkids all the time. Of course, I have to get engaged and married first.

My current bf is the only guy my dad has ever liked. It''s strange, because I thought he wouldn''t like the fact that he''s 10 years my senior and non-Asian. But they totally hit it off. =)

I''m a 28 year old born in S. Korea but adopted by Italian and Polish American parents when I was an infant. As a result, I don''t speak Korean but do know some Italian and a few Polish words. Am now married to a Scotch-Irish guy whose family has been in the US for probably two centuries.

Bling, Yay! I''m ABJ, too. 2nd generation. Born and raised CA girl. Grew up speaking the language, but don''t speak as well as I used to...
8.gif
I''m so jealous....I wish I could take a trip to Japan....

Originally from S.Cal, but now I got my big coat and scarves in foggy SF...burrr...This rain sucks. Looks like the sun may peek through today.

Twinkletoes, what is the name of your parents Mexican restaurant? Is it in the bay area?

DB

Hi! I''m sorry to intterupt- I''m not Asian, but my sister is a photographer, and her work is very popular in Asia, and I was wondering if any of you have ever heard of her - her name is Gina Garan, and her work is of a doll called "Blythe".

i''ve never been to Asia, but she is there all th time, and she loves visiting!!

It''s called El Pollo Rico in East San Jose. I used to work there in the summers when I was younger but then my dad let me quit when a guy followed me out to my car to hit on me.

What a good idea, Tomatoe!

I am an ABC too, mom is from Hong Kong, father Taiwan. Born and raised in California. I speak very little Chinese, I was such a quiet and introverted little kid that my teachers encouraged my parents to speak only English to me. I sooooo wish I spoke more fluently- I understand 100% of what my mother says to me, but you know moms- she really only says things like "you need a warmer jacket" and "have you eaten!?!"

Hey, Twinkletoes, I'm pretty sure I've been to El Pollo Rico.

I live in San Jose.

Dad is chinese and mom is English, I grew up in the West Indies then lived in England for 5 years before coming to California and have lived here 13 years now. Guess this is home now.

ABC all the way....born in SF, lived in HK for several years too. Parents are back and forth between Hong Kong and the Bay Area. I spoke almost no Cantonese when I moved to HK but was shamed into learning when my Caucasian schoolmates spoke Cantonese and Mandarin better than me

Tomatoe, next time I'm in Singpore we should meet up and talk about sparklies!

Oh hot damn! I''m not a Blythe fan but my DH is a huge one! In fact he invoked your sister''s name to some friends of ours just a few days ago!

1st generation Vietnamese, born in Houston, have aways lived there, will prob always live there! My parents were refugees of the Veetnam War and came with the flood of refugees in 1975. They met somewhere between Pennsylvania and New Jersey, married, and moved to Houston in 1978, pregnant with yours truly!

I was born and raised in Hong Kong until 1991 (I was 11) when we immigrate to California. I consider myself born and half bred in Asia and half bred in US (where is that category). I read and write Chinese, I speak Cantonese fluently and speak Mandarin like I am speaking Cantonese but understand Mandarin fluently when spoken to. I speak with my parents, grandma, aunts and uncles in Cantonese and speak to my sisters and cousins in English.

Tomatoe,
I was born in Penang but spent over 15 years in Johor Bharu. I crossed the causeway to Singapore weekly for my piano and violin lessons, then ended the trip with foreign fruit buying. I did that for almost 10 years! I used to be an expert with directions and shopping in JB and S''pore but after so many years here in the US, both places have changed so much that I need a tour guide when I come home for a visit.

I was born in Vietnam. My mom emigrated over to the US in 1978 when I was 3 to be with my dad who followed the American GIs to America. My two brothers were born here.

Tomatoe, my husband was born and raised in Singapore. He came over to the US for college and we met on the net in ''95, before it became a fashionable way to meet people. To this day my parents don''t know I met him over the internet. I told them I met him in the school library. LOL

We''ll be going back to Singapore next November so that his parents can see their grandkids. I love to go window shopping in Singapore. Especially since there are so many jewelry stores over there. Love to stop by all the Larrry''s Jewelry Stores, beautiful eye candy!
