I wish the debates had been on at better times here. Though I''m actually quite impressed that there were aired at all. I don''t recall any other country''s debates being aired on US tv.

The GOP should be thanking their lucky stars for JOE THE PLUMBER ... because you know who we''re NOT talking about ...

SARAH FREAKIN PALIN

LOL Deco, I heart you.

LOL!

Yes, thank GOODNESS for Joe the plumber. Now instead of the left babbling back and forth and whining about ridiculous and irrelevant topics that put them on par with Perez Hilton, we''ve got them babbling back and forth and whining about ridiculous and irrelevant topics that puts them on par with Perez Hilton.

Do you not think that the babbling and whining about ridiculous and irelevant topics goes both ways? I know it does over here!

Yes. But my post was in reference to the discussion going from Palin to Joe and how the GOP should be thankful.
I don''t pretend that my own party doesn''t have their own tricks up their sleeves, and I''m the first to admit it.

Wow, this thread is so unintentionally hilarious I can''t stand it!

"The media''s out to get Joe the Plumber who whored himself out to every media outlet possible! How dare anyone do research on Joe the Plumber after he gave every media outlet possible interviews?!"

I feel like Seth and Amy on Weekend Update...REALLY?!

Funny and sad. American politics is fairly disturbing.

This is hilarious!
Had *nothing* to do with Joe the Plumber, c''mon. He was mad about being interrupted by that guy in PREVIOUS INTERVIEWS. He said as much before he left. They''d barely even touched on "joe"???

I''m with you deco...he was POed about what a jerk that other guy was--and holy cr@p yeah he was--once he interrupted he wouldn''t stop talking and wouldn''t let him get a word in edgewise. I don''t blame him one bit. Especially because this obviously isn''t the first time it''s happened.

When I watched it I thought that too (that it didn''t have anything to do with Joe), but I posted it here because of the title and because I still thought it was funny. Didn''t mean to fool anyone into thinking it was a screaming match about our good friend Joe!

I often wonder why people don't just walk off the set of "Nancy Grace" ... she screams at everybody, cuts people off, sneers at them, acts like everyone else is dumber than bricks, mistreats her crew & yet people still call in "I love you Nancy!" HA! Masochists!

Come to think of it .. that sounds, um, familiar. (Not you Luckystar)

That''s so funny that you would say that. I was just talking about her to my physical therapist today because the new issue of People came in and I was reading the cover story of the missing child whose Mom was just arrested. I told him I really didn''t know much about it because I can''t stand to listen to Nancy Grace for any length of time. I channel surf right past her now. I remember liking her at one time, but after she got her show and I heard her ad nauseum, I just couldn''t take it.

LOL. Not to hijack this away from good ol'' Joe ... but YEAH, I used to like her too. Until she got power-mad & I heard rumblings about her crew''s horrific treatment. NOW I''m obsesseed with Rachel Maddow. She''s HILAROUS! Such a breath of fresh air. I swear I have a girl crush on her. (Don''t worry - my husband knows

She''s so funny when she''s trying to keep a straight face. I can feel her struggling. I love her too.

He really doesn''t get any sympathy from me. As a member of the privileged 5% that has a household income of 250+, I think people making that much should be taxed more. The burden is disproportionately on the poor and middle class.

Of course, from what I''m reading the guy doesn''t even own the business and that even if he did buy it, he still wouldn''t be taxed more because the revenue was only like 100K.

This is getting more pathetic by the hour.
From CNN:
"“I talked to him this morning for the first time ever,” said McCain. “And I want to tell you his sprits are good and he’s a tough guy. He is what small business people all over this country are all about. They are tough and they are good and they want to get ahead and they want to keep their money.”
McCain did apologize to the Ohio resident for thrusting him into the media spotlight on the night of the debate according to McCain press secretary Brooke Buchanan.
Buchanan did say that the Arizona Senator invited Ohio’s most famous voter to meet up with the campaign but did not set up any specific stops"

1. Accuse Obama of stalking Joe but invite him to your rally! Makes sense, huh???
2. Accuse Obama of stalking Joe but then saying it was your own fault. Hello???
3. Joe the plumber is NOT a small business owner!!!! He does NOT own a business! He is not even a plumber! And right now he would get more of a tax cut under Obama!!! I am sure that the McCain campaign will ignore those facts until election day and STILL use him as an example of a small business owner!

This is making me so mad I could explode by now. Lies after lies. By now I should be used to it.

The attack on Joe is disgusting.
He has just as much right as anyone else to ask Obama a question.
He had the opportunity and asked.
There are several questions I wouldn't mind asking Obama and McCain if given the opportunity.

I have a lot of small business clients some make 250k+ some don't.
But when your self employed the taxes hurt and hurt badly.
The average working person never sees the money but it hurts them just as bad they just don't realize it.
If more Americans had to write multiple thousand dollar checks to the government 4 times a year instead of getting it withheld from their paycheck so they never see it this would be a different country.
That is the evil of payroll taxes.
A small business owner making a profit of 250k under Obama's plan would be writing a $34000 check to the government every 3 months.
That is over 1/2 of the profit.

39% + 15.3% fica/medicare.
The fica drops after $106,800 which I forgot about so its a few k under that.
Medicare doesn't.
If they have employees the number can be much higher than that.
IL has a flat 3% tax that I didn't take into account because it is different state to state.
That's another $7300 a year or $1875 a quarter.

39% is the marginal tax rate, not the average tax rate, right?

In addition, the 15.3% is misleading:

"Under the SE Tax Act, self-employed people are responsible for the entire percentage of 15.3% (= 12.4% [Soc. Sec.] + 2.9% [Medicare]); however, the 15.3% multiplier is applied to 92.35% of the business''s net earnings from self-employment, rather than 100% of the gross earnings; the difference, 7.65%, is half of the 15.3%, and makes the calculation fair in comparison to that of regular (non-self-employed) employees. It does this by adjusting for the fact that employees'' 7.65% share of their SE tax is multiplied against a number (their gross income) that does not include the putative "employer''s half" of the self-employment tax. In other words, it makes the calculation fair because employees don''t get taxed on their employers'' contribution of the second half of FICA, therefore self-employed people shouldn''t get taxed on the second half of the self-employment tax. Similarly, self-employed people also deduct half of their self-employment tax (schedule SE) from their gross income on the way to arriving at their adjusted gross income (AGI). This levels the amount paid by self-employed persons in comparison to regular employees, who don''t pay general income tax on their employers'' contribution of the second half of FICA, just as they didn''t pay FICA tax on it either.[4][5]"

The average tax rate is 25% BTW according to the Tax Policy Center and not the marginal 39% for people who have an income of 250K+.
So it would be correct to say that overall you would pay 25+7.65+3 (let''s assume) about 35% and not 54%. Let''s get the numbers right ...

Not sure about that statement either. While people in high income brackets pay a higher percentage of taxes, one could argue that even though people with lower incomes pay less as well, it impacts their quality/standard of life much more.

doesn''t really matter its 4% more under Obama''s plan and when you have to write the check it really wakes you up.
If everyone had to write a check the US would be a different country.

My thought is no matter what people, our taxes are going up. No matter who gets elected, they are going to go up one way or another. Maybe not directly like income tax, but in gas, cigarette or any other tax.

Two things in life you can count on Death and Taxes.

That''s actually a rather patronizing point of view. You seem to espouse that because our taxes are removed weekly or biweekly that we are too stupid to look at the column that says "total annual taxes paid"

People seem to forget that THE COUNTRY IS IN DEEP DEFICIT (thanks to the war and other unwise policies McCain's people so happily conducted for 8 years).

Nobody like to pay taxes. but the reality of the life is, if we owe so much money (federal, state, and city level), we all need to tighten the budget to RECOVER FROM THE DEFICIT. This is the purpose of income/sale tax and we all need to contribute (even I, who did not vote for the current president!) The tax is served to get US out of the deficit shit hole, to help INVEST in the future of this country by educating our young (so the economy has a chance of turning around), insuring our citizens in their healthy days so when we DO GET SICK (and we ALL will) we have insurance to heal our health(and to drive the health cost down for everyone), and to invest in a proper government system to care of the disadvantaged and elderly so THEY can remain productive and contributing to the society for the longest possible time frame.

I really hope people who are so short-sighted can try to see the big picture.

Its just a number on your check stub you never saw the money, when you look at your bank balance and it shows X dollars and think wow I have money then you have to pay your quarterlies and that X dollars is gone there is a huge difference.
Iv done it both ways and believe me it hurts a lot more when you have to write the check.
