People seem to forget that THE COUNTRY IS IN DEEP DEFICIT (thanks to the war and other unwise policies McCain's people so happily conducted for 8 years).

Nobody like to pay taxes. but the reality of the life is, if we owe so much money (federal, state, and city level), we all need to tighten the budget to RECOVER FROM THE DEFICIT. This is the purpose of income/sale tax and we all need to contribute (even I, who did not vote for the current president!) The tax is served to get US out of the deficit shit hole, to help INVEST in the future of this country by educating our young (so the economy has a chance of turning around), insuring our citizens in their healthy days so when we DO GET SICK (and we ALL will) we have insurance to heal our health(and to drive the health cost down for everyone), and to invest in a proper government system to care of the disadvantaged and elderly so THEY can remain productive and contributing to the society for the longest possible time frame.

I really hope people who are so short-sighted can try to see the big picture.

cut spending first!
They always raise taxes then forget to reduce the spending and just keep on spending all that comes in and all they can print.
Case in point a $1 trillion dollar gift to wall street that didn't work because the crooks want the other crooks to give them more!

I agree with you completely.
And that is why I support and believe that Obama will lead the fiscal policy to the right direction.

That''s actually a rather patronizing point of view. You seem to espouse that because our taxes are removed weekly or biweekly that we are too stupid to look at the column that says ''total annual taxes paid''
20.gif

Its just a number on your check stub you never saw the money, when you look at your bank balance and it shows X dollars and think wow I have money then you have to pay your quarterlies and that X dollars is gone there is a huge difference.

Iv done it both ways and believe me it hurts a lot more when you have to write the check.

Trust me-it hurts me plenty to see how much is withheld from my checks every two weeks. It''s the same thing-either the government withholds it or you withhold it yourself.

However, I realize taxes are a necessary evil, so I don''t get too worked up about it. And once I start making over $250k, I''m not going to get worked up about my higher taxes, either. Because I''ll still have more money!

He really doesn''t get any sympathy from me. As a member of the privileged 5% that has a household income of 250+, I think people making that much should be taxed more. The burden is disproportionately on the poor and middle class.

Can you please explain that statement?

Our system is regressive and people that don''t make as much pay more than they can afford.

This is getting more pathetic by the hour.

From CNN:

''“I talked to him this morning for the first time ever,” said McCain. “And I want to tell you his sprits are good and he’s a tough guy. He is what small business people all over this country are all about. They are tough and they are good and they want to get ahead and they want to keep their money.”

McCain did apologize to the Ohio resident for thrusting him into the media spotlight on the night of the debate according to McCain press secretary Brooke Buchanan.

Buchanan did say that the Arizona Senator invited Ohio’s most famous voter to meet up with the campaign but did not set up any specific stops''

1. Accuse Obama of stalking Joe but invite him to your rally! Makes sense, huh???

2. Accuse Obama of stalking Joe but then saying it was your own fault. Hello???

3. Joe the plumber is NOT a small business owner!!!! He does NOT own a business! He is not even a plumber! And right now he would get more of a tax cut under Obama!!! I am sure that the McCain campaign will ignore those facts until election day and STILL use him as an example of a small business owner!

This is making me so mad I could explode by now. Lies after lies. By now I should be used to it.

29.gif

The fact is, it doesn''t matter ONE bit what Joe''s question was what he does for a living, he''s licensed, what he''s making or what the heck he ate for breakfast, for crying out loud!.

What matters is only this: OBAMA''S ANSWER.

It doesn''t matter one flip if Joe was a plant (ridiculous), a relative of someone obscure character from the Keating Five, a lawyer instead of a plumber, or even if he''s an alien from Mars. The fact is that Joe was simply the catalyst that got Obama to say, in his own words, what he really wants for this country. And it''s not Democracy, it''s not individual freedom, it''s not financial freedom. It''s Socialism. This is what Mr Obama has the "audacity to hope" for. He hopes for a country whose government takes it upon itself (in all its infinite wisdom) to give what is rightfully yours and pass it off to someone they believe deserves it more than you.

So you see, Joe couldda been Phil, or Tom, or Susan, or even Mickey Mouse. It''s not about Joe. It''s about Barak Obama!

Agreed. And by the amount he plans on spending I am interested in how that will help our fiscal policy at all. lol!

"Spreading the wealth" ... sounds a lot like that boneheaded "lemmie buy your love" GIFT Bush gave to us from our own pockets. Stimulate the economy? More like drive it into the ground within six months (maybe 2 weeks later than without that giant waste of $$).

Short-sighted, ill-advised Bush craziness. Last thing we need is 4-8 more years of that.
14.gif
Or the wealthiest 5% of americans & american business paying FEWER TAXES.

If they don''t like our US Tax Policies -- go ahead, head to Ireland & their 11% ... or heck form a new country under whatever "god" you believe in.

Then maybe there''d be some room for middle-class entrepeneurs to build their businesses & replace the greedy traitorous biggies at the top. I''m sure they''d be more than happy to pay the taxes - because they''re a little bit closer to the American Dream than the fat cat entitled Golden Parachute CEO''s & company.

What''s that statistic? Something like 98% of the total wealth of this country belongs to the top 2%? Wonder why -- people in that 2% KEEP GETTING ELECTED and manipulating things to benefit the rich. WAKE UP!!!

Palin doesn''t seem to mind Joe''s privacy much since she keeps brining him up. She talked about him in her speech today in PA.

Hey did you all know that Joe used to live in Alaska (around the North Pole) and his first name isn''t Joe, it''s Sam.
20.gif

The part that really confuses me is that most people seem to judge their candidate based on their BS tax policies. As if that is the only or overriding criteria when assessing the candidates.

When we look at a diamond, we seem to take a lot of different measurements into consideration. Hahaha, I guess people are sort of considering cut, color and clarity this year...but i digress.

What does it matter if you are taxed a few percentages less, when your savings and investments have become worthless? Those "no more taxes" mantras are worthless when the economy is ready to tank. And it further puzzles me that the those same people think it''s a good thing to bail out Wall Street with a minimum of 700 billion. This is sheer madness. America has gone mad. Maybe we jacked up our DNA somehow. I feel bad for the countries that thought we had the ideal economic structure and invested into it. This will ensure a lot of allies in the future when America loses all credibility.
20.gif

And the part I really don''t understand, which is the number one thing that makes me wonder what people really consider in a candidate....is this....Are all the people who are not even close to the wealthly tax bracket duped into thinking those tax breaks will somehow benefit them? Do they really believe that this should the primary criteria or is it a convenient focus because our dicussions have become 2 minute sound bites? Is ADD overtaking our country?

Actually, this thread does happen to be about Joe, and his sudden turn in the spotlight courtesy of Senator McCain.

As for the difference between the candidate's positions re fiscal policy, I think everybody here understands that, even though we might disagree on how best to characterize it. Some of us responded positively to Obama's approach, some to McCains. It's one of those agree to disagree things. Or we could just keep SHOUTING at each other, I suppose.
20.gif

But where this thread is concerned, it is about Joe.

Or at least it started out that way!

No .. I'm saying that stimulus check George Bush sent everyone is "spreading the wealth" (not re-distributing ... SPREADING). And that McCain would be 4-8 more years of that.

Obama's plan is aces by me. Even though my DH & I would be "better off" (i.e.pay fewer taxes) under McCain's plan. I don't just vote on my PERSONAL well-being. I vote for the COUNTRY's well-being.

Sorry - but to argue that Joe the plumber has enlightened us all about the fact that Obama wants to cut taxes for the middle class and increase taxes for >250K through redistribution is laughable. That information has been out for a year probably and Obama mentions it every 5 minutes whenever he speaks. If you haven''t understood that by now ...
Democracy has nothing to do with taxation and redistribution of wealth. Individual freedom? Financial freedom? All big words - could mean anything. Socialism? To label Obama a Socialist is to insult any real Socialist out there.
38.gif
Too sad that people still cling to these meaningless buzz words and labels to make decisions about political candidates. But hey - if Palin does it, what would you expect from Joe Sixpack??

Nope. Never said Joe "enlightened" us. In fact, you missed the point.
Not referring to Obama''s "promise" to lower taxes, either. In fact, you missed the point.
And really, I won''t lose sleep tonight knowing that just maybe I insulted a Socialist, although it sounds like you''d make a great party member!

Speaking of back taxes....you know who else owes them? Martin Nesbitt, treasurer of the Obama campaign (allegedly...this is a biased source after all).
