Honey, you ain't seen nothing yet! If you think that was a long post, go back to page 15 or 16 or something and check out the novels I wrote when I first started on here!! Your post was more like a sonnet!

Hee-hee! Just kidding.

My mom actually met her husband online. He only lives 30 minutes away, so meeting in person wasn't too much trouble for them. And, my dad met his wife through the newspaper personals! It's cool that you guys met through a mutual friend too!
I completely understand your want to know every detail but still keep a little surprise! It seems like you're handling it well though! I just saw that post with the tulip setting! I'd never seen that before, and I think it's wonderful! It really captures the graceful beauty of tulips. I can't wait to see pictures of your yellow gold/platinum creation!

I hope goldengirl's right about the holiday season!! Nevermind the fact that I refuse to get engaged during December...

November or February for me!!

My boyfriend just finished his first day at his new job!! I'm off to hear all about it over dinner!

Tybee - I'm looking for some rings for ya!

I like this one A LOT!

Here is one a little bit simpler. Unfortunately they don't show the center stone

And another

Those are all from Solomonbrothers.com. Whiteflash wasn't working for me, but I swear they have something like that.

Oh MelissaSue!

I love the first one too! I like the antique look of it! (like I need to drool over more rings!!!)

The second one looks just like the one that I tried on at Baily Banks and Biddle.

Hmm, Solomon Brothers huh? There's one here in Atlanta somewhere...perhaps another weekend of trying on beautiful rings. That's better than gorging on chocolates right?

Tybee - Oh, your in atlanta.. yeah thats where solomon bros is. I wanna go there. If there showroom is even HALF of their online selection it has to be amazing. I mean, I know nothing about their customer service, pricing comparsions, etc.. I just know that I can always find what I'm looking for on their website. It would be fun just to look. There is a MelissaSweet dress shop in Atlanta too.. I think you should go try on my dress for me.

I of course, live in stinky buffalo, where there is NOTHING.. No good jewelery stores, no good dress shops.. nothing.. But we have TWO davids bridals.. whoohoo.

Melissa

I can't pull myself away from these boards. It is my newfound home. I have been with my boyfriend for 5+ years, and the dreading question has been looming for the past 1.5yrs. My BF is really not into shopping and definitely not into this, so I have been guiding him along the way. He isn't really into the whole ring thing and the its definitely more for my enjoyment. Obviously, he is the more grounded of us. So far, We went to a few stores and I fell in love with platinum pave settings liked this
33%3B%3B%3B5%3A%3B23232%7Ffp46%3Dot%3E2329%3D%3B54%3D98%3A%3DXROQDF%3E232356242%3B73%3Aot1lsi

I didn't want a RB, and princess didn't cut it like I thought. So, I thought a radiant was a nice compromise, then on this site I discovered the world of brillant cushions, regents, flanders and the like. So, now a more confused that I was. Who knew the types. My dream diamond is the HOF dream, but I can't stand to spend that much especially since I desire some size to my diamond. Fat fingers.

Aaaah, MelissaSue, Buffalo.

Even if you don't have good wedding related stuff, don't you have that great grocery store? The one with the brick ovens, supposed to be best of the best of grocery stores ever- I think Wegman's?

WHOA! I came this morning and notice Leonid had changed some things with the looks of the posts, but didnt notice it made the pages smaller till i got here and it said 31 pages! I was wondering what on earth you ladies were talking about all night to fill 11 pages!!! I felt left out for a moment!

Yane - those settings are lovely... i like the one on the right with the scallop!
30.gif

Tybee - i like the first one too! Love the hand engraving and antique look!
30.gif
And the surprise diamond is pretty cool too.

njc, thanks. I do love it. It''s a whopper in price and takes 10 weeks to get done, but the details are amazing. It''s a company in California and very few east coast places carry it. I just love it. Do you think a jeweler can recreate it? An option to keep the price down.

Im sure you could find a jeweler to duplicate it. I have no expertise in this, but from what ive read of others experience most of the time it is cheaper and sometimes it costs more. You could start a thread and ask for custom design experiences and how the price ran relative to the original designer price. I know everyone would love to share their stories and even give you some suggestions of who to see if you tell them where you are. One money saver could be choosing white gold vs platinum, although i dont know your preference! Also maybe not doing so much pave (like only half or 3/4 around)? Just my thoughts!

Thanks. I think I will do. The funny thing is that the company does do custom work direct to consumer, which may be a cheaper route. I didn''t like the pave all the way around, since it makes it impossible to resize, and though in my heart of hearts I know I will remain this size 2 (blatant lie) forever, I should be prepared for the unthinkable, right.

Thanks for the advice.

Okay,
I am going to Solomon Bros. this weekend (thanks MelissaSue) now I can really be sad and anxious and wish that I had a ring
31.gif
!!!!
We do have Melissa Sweet in Atlanta. I drive past it when I leave work to go to grad school.
I''d try on your dress for you, but aren''t you a size TINY??? I''m more of a size medium (he he he)
Oh, I really like that ring...really really really...

njc - I thought the same thing!! I was afraid that y''all were having a grand old time while I was studying stupid calculus for today''s test!
9.gif

tybee - have fun diamond-gawking! And if you do end up feeling extra-anxious, you know we will always have a shoulder for you to cry on (besides the b/f, that is!).

Neat! MelissaSue, tybee, and I are in grad school, gingerbcookie is in med school, anybody else?? This is so cool! (I''m a DORK!
41.gif
)

I just started a new thread in the SMTR folder asking for pics of <1ct solitaires in size 5-or-so, cause I just can''t bring myself into a jewelry store alone!! I''d feel so weird, like I was going behind his back or something, even though he himself told me to go alone. I''m a wuss, what can I say?
2.gif

njc--I thought the same thing!! I go to click on the thread and it''s showing 31 pages, and I did the "Holy Sh!!" double take cuz I SWORE I''d left off on page 19 or 20...!!!

They''ve made a lot of changes to the site recently. :)

JCJD--I posted girl-power encouragement for you on your thread. If we lived nearby, I''d go with you. We ought to start the ladies-in-waiting local clubs, and we can get together and go en masse to jewelry stores and bridal fairs. ;)

AWWWW!!!!!
10.gif
Such love in the ladies club!! Thanks goldengirl!! Unfortunately, I think I''m the only one in the club from Nebraska! Anybody want to prove me wrong??

The way I feel about going to a jewelry store without him is kind of like the way I feel about trying on wedding dresses without being engaged already. Like I''m not supposed to be there, although I''m sure the stores would be fine with it. Oh well, I''ll get over it eventually...

Lol, well, I feel the same way about trying on wedding dresses, but I think my thing''s more of a jinx-scare than anything. I''m superstitious about it, a little.

However, you shouldn''t feel silly about the ering, because (okay, follow this logic with me): you need to be engaged before you have a need for a wedding dress, BUT you have to be pre-e to be in the market for an ering. So you should feel silly about shopping for ering if you already have one, but you''re perfectly normal to shop for one before you have one and therefore, right when you''re needing one.

Okay, got that?? At least, that''s what I tell myself!!
9.gif

LOL! I follow! And you''re right, I am in the market for an ering.... I''ll see what my sister''s doing tonight...
11.gif
9.gif

Oh JCJC,

I would totally go shopping with you! Nebraska''s not too far from Atlanta, is it? Seriously, If you can get the nerve up you should go...or maybe you shouldn''t (that''s classic Tybee right there..) it''s fun, but it REALLY makes you want it!

I was really scared at first, because it would mean that we were really looking, but also especially since I have these man hands, I was afraid that the woman behind the counter would flip out
31.gif
--- but they''re trained professionals they''ve learned all the right things to say.

Seriously, once I went into a store to say that I was just visiting my ring. They laughed.

Okay, got to run the doggies before the rain starts coming. This is my one afternoon off from classes (wahoo!) Thanks MelissaSue for giving me something to look forward to.

Any fellow NYers. I am game. I totally feel the hesitation. I live about 4 blocks from the diamond district and haven''t been able to bring myself to go looking. I feel so weird. I totally get it.

I hate going with engaged or married friends, since it further reminds me that I have no ring.

c''mon ladies, you just need to get up the nerve just once and walk into a jewelery store by yourself, it''s really not that hard and gets much, much easier by the 3rd or 4th store visit! I actually kinda prefer going alone for a number of reasons, 1) my bf lives in Fl, I am in Wi. 2) I feel much more comfortable looking at anything and everything I want without wondering how long it will be before he drags me out and 3) Steve spoils me rotten and always wants to give me whatever I want and if I just looking at lots of stuff he might have a heart attack! (ha ha) 4) I dont'' want to really pick out my own ring and 5) I didn''t want to know what his budget was so I looked and gave him ideas. I know that I want a princess cut in a tulip set solitaire. I would love to have a 1 ct but I also told him that it''s not the size that matters, it''s just getting the ring itself no matter how bigor how small, it''s the meaning behind the ring that means the most to be.
since I started going into the J stores I just can''t seem to stay out....

As my username suggests, you can count me in the nerd crowd. I''m working on a PhD in biochemistry.

May as well add me to the ladies-in-waiting list too, I''ve been following this thread since September

I posted in my show me your solitaires thread already, but I went last night with my sister and tried on rings!!! And I am in L
30.gif
VE!!! I loved the 3/8 ct solitaire RB!! It was just perfect!! Just the right size for me, not too big, not too small, perfect! Not that I wouldn''t accept a 1ct diamond of course...

Chocolate for all in celebration of JCJD''s first solo flight to a jewelry store!!!

WOWEE KAYA!!! Gorgeous ring!! My eyes are popping out of my head!
23.gif

And I''m eating chocolate!! Thanks for the reason
36.gif
, I''m glad you had fun!!! Get ready to daydream about it A LOT!

Kaya, gorgeous ring. That's the michael b lace right. I totally tried it on in the store, but thought it looked way to dainty. I think giving my hand size I need a band that is substantial in width. Not too much, just a little.

Welcome, sciencegeek. It gets addictive. So, jealous of you grad school girls. I can't bring myself to take the GMAT yet.

LOVE it Kaya!!!

Welcome science! Yane is right... you will become addicted! Have you picked out any rings yet?

Yane - i thought that skinny rings would look funny on my fingers as well (6 3/4), but they looked great! I was very pleasently surprised... see what going and trying the rings on does JCJD!!!

Now after adding another name, someone better "get lucky" this weekend! I think it should be reena or choochoo! You guys deserve it!

*Edited to add: I dont know why the crazy spaces are showing up in the list... i keep trying to fix them, but the keep coming back... oh well! Halloween Ghost?

for some crazy reason... i wish we had kept the names that have been scratched off on the list. So... we can get a sense as how many people were OFF the list. Can it be done?!

njc. I totally will try that out. I think that day, it was the first time I ever wore anything on that finger, so everything looked weird. Did anyone else have that feeling. All the rings I tried that very first time looked odd on my hand.

Question for the anxious. How did you decide what shape (round, radiant, princess). I am starting to like them all. I see gorgeous cushions like reena's, then nicerz's radiant blows me away, then some of RB are outstanding. I am driving my poor BF mad, since my desired shape changes every day. I just want something pretty and sparkly. Not to mention, my eyes became open to regents, flanders. I don't want to go and choose the diamond for him, but I am starting to think I should. What did you ladies think. Also, engaged ladies, please feel free to chime in.
