Firerock - Yeah.. how DID you miss a 13 page long post? (I think its now 14!) Its right up at the top of the forum always.

I know I've seen you around herein other threads.. Well welcome to our "club". I hope your wait is not much longer!

Melissa

I took some pictures of the dress in the mall.. I felt like a certifiably insane person, standing in the mall with my digital camera taking pictures of a wedding gown (and then I had to bring my camera shopping in express with me) but as my mom reassured me, everyone knows that brides are crazy..
Its not QUITE like the Melissa Sweet, my mom and I did a side by side comparison and there are quite a few differences, but its very pretty, isn't it?

Meanwhile, my boyfriend randomly told me tonite, that when he brought my diamond to our jeweler, the jeweler informed him that my diamond is more of an SI1 than the SI2 it was previously appraised as, and that it is .955 ct, instead of just the .95 ct. I can't see why the jeweler would have any reason to tell him this information other than it being true.. He wouldn't gain anything from it, since we didn't buy it from him. I asked my b/f if he knew the measurements and stuff, and he says he has them written down and will tell me tomorrow. It was random that he told me this tonite.. since its been a month and half since he initially brought the stone to the jeweler.

Oh well. I'm gonna get going. I had a BIG shopping spree today.. The express sale is GOOD. I'm gonna try some stuff that I bought on.

rfath - beautiful ring! i love the lines of the setting, so clean and crisp...totally shows off your sparkly!

melissa - i loooove the train on that dress...stunning! I really love that melissa sweet dress also, for the same reason as I love the way the train flows off the dress and just puddles at your feet. so pretty! sooo did not know it was that expensive
sad.gif
the express sale in houston doesn't start till tomorow..but i\m mad at express anyway. their clothes don't fit me any more. they used to not fit, then for the last year or so I could wear some of their smaller sizes ( loved it, spent way too much money there)...few months ago I went to a fitting jst so I could make sure they continued to make clothes for girls built like me (a pubescent boy's body
2.gif
) and bam...their new fall line which I love simply doesn't fit.

Melissa,

It is at 14-page now! I guess i was intimidated by the high number of pages to catch up on. I've been hooked on this forum for a while now (i'm not sure how to detach myself from it. OH HECK... why should I ?!). I even sign on at work to check what's new. I hope to be wearing my e-ring before this year ends.
naughty.gif

BTW, that is a beautiful dress!!

"Aaahhh, now i feel like i belong...... I'm in THE club!!"

Love the ring rfath! Nice and clean, very classy! The ferret is adorable too... he doesnt look too upset to me, but ill take your word for it! Congrats!!!

Ginger - does this mean I didn't get skinnier? I have noticed that I fit into 0s and 2s there just recently (since mid summer) where earlier in the year I was wearing 4s and 6s.. some of it IS that I've lost weight.. but I has a suspicion the sizes got bigger. I'm really NOT size 0 skinny, so I wondered what little teeny tiny girls like you would do if I wear their smallest size. That's really not cool..even if it does make me feel skinny. Thanks for the dress compliments though. I should really just call the shop and get the info on it.. but I really would like to get engaged first.

Next thursday I am going to get a bridesmaid dress for my best friends wedding at David's. I'm sure being in there is going to give me the itch..

GORGEOUS RING RFATH!!!!!!!!!

I love bezels like that one, where you can see the diamond peeking out the bottom of the setting.

GORGEOUS DRESS MELISSA!!!!!!!!! It is pretty different from the Melissa Sweet, but I think I might like it better... Good luck with the bridesmaid's dress!

I was in the Limited last week with my sister, and there was a girl trying on clothes who was too tiny for the size 0 pants. The poor sales associates were running all over the store trying to find pants that might be cut small enough to fit her! Of course, I never have that problem. Just finding pants available in my size!! (Cause everyone wears it!!)
Regarding Express sizes, last year when I bought my first Editor pants, I got the size 12. Now, I'm over 10 lbs lighter and a jeans size smaller (Arizona brand), and the Editors I bought recently are still a size 12. Go figure... However, the dress I'm still trying to find a pic of was a 9 at Express. I wish women's sizes were like men's - inches around the waist and inseam length!!! It'd be so much easier....
angryfire.gif

Ginger - LOL! My mom hated the blue frills as much as my dad!

Welcome firerock and Lauren!! Glad you could join our friendly group!
1.gif

fire&ice - I see your point- Sorry I'm so dense and didn't get it before!!!
1.gif
My dad and his new wife were only dating for a few months when they decided to get married (I don't remember exactly how long...) In my step-mother's letter to me and my sibs after the wedding, she actually wrote "I guess we old farts know when we've got something good!" Cute!!

MrsFrk & KSparkles - thanks for the IT band tips. I'll ask next time I'm in the rec center trainer's office about ART and strain/counterstrain. I've been getting my exercise by cycling to and from work every day, and then carrying my bike up 3 flights of stairs to my apt!! But I'd like to start running again, esp when it starts snowing and I can't cycle. Thanks!!

MrsFrk - Hmmmmmm... can I give you my b/f's email address? Ha ha! Like Lauren, I just want to move on in our relationship, not get an e-ring, but he's stubborn
2.gif
(He's great too!! but very stubborn
9.gif
) He'd rather be in debt to his parents and get a nice rock than wait until we can afford it ourselves...

OK, enough procrastinating, I've got to get back to homework.

9.gif

OK, I'm not done yet....
12.gif

The b/f told me a few days ago that he's not waiting any longer than the weekend after he gets the ring to propose!!! EEEEK!!!!! So now, I can stop getting antsy for a proposal every time I see him and just wait until the weekends! LOL! I feel better.
3.gif
Of course, I'd take a Snickers bar for an engagement token too.... but you know what I mean
2.gif
.

Really, doing homework now.

JCJD - Any word on your b/f getting that job yet? Maybe your e-ring will be coming soon. I am getting a feeling that mine will be coming soon too. Just the fact that he was randomly spouting diamond facts last night.. and he was acting strange when I presented him with my exremely busy schedule for the next week and a half.

All girls clothing sizes are weird. Depending on the store, I can wear anywhere between a zero and a SEVEN in pants... thats a BIG DIFFERENCE. The 7s are usually only in Juniors sizes.. which are cut for people who have no hips or butts. I now fit into 0s in express pants (but in express jeans, i wear 2 or 4) and American Eagle pants (but the same story with their jeans). But I am NOT little enough where someone would look at me and say.. "She's a size 0" Even in High school when I was a teeny skinny little thing, I could never wear anything in Juniors smaller than a 3. And, I'm bigger on the top, but not in my boobs.. Just like the way I'm built.. thicker around the rib cage and shoulders and stuff.. And I have no waist to speak of.. So some dresses I have to go up to like a size 7 to get them to zip. This winter, I had a horrible experience where I ordered myself a size small dress, it didn't fit, I returned it for a medium.. and I tried it on, and it barely fit, and I BROKE THE ZIPPER trying to get it hooked. I refused to get a large, and I had my boyfriends mom fix the zipper for me and squeezed into it. I have lost about 10 lbs since then, and it fits me good now.. but how can I be a size 0 in one thing and a LARGE in another? it doesn't make any sense.

Okay. I need to shower now.. Need to run some errands and then clean up this pigsty.

Melissa

I had to make an unexpected trip to see my bf so I am with him now, and the ring is done. So it could be this week that he proposes. Its very exciting, we are even bumping up our wedding date because we dont want to be apart longer than we have to.

JCJD - we may have to cross your name off from the list REAL SOON. THE question will be popped !!
appl.gif

as for dress sizes for women... they drive me bonkers!! Like MelissaSue, i can wear any size from small to ex-large depending on the makers. I remembered the good old days of being size 0-2 and I had heck of a time to find my size. Now they make most of them size 0-2. After having a big baby boy(over 8lb. and put on 40 pounds; on a 5'3" person is a lot)(i was a surrogate mom), my body is not the same any more in more ways than one. But the funny thing is (and it doesn't make sense) i'm still able to wear a few of my skinny-day-clothes. And the new purchases are in bigger sizes (6-8). So i would have to guess that nowadays some clothing makers are making their sizes much smaller than 10-15 years ago. Does anyone else experience this....?
confused.gif

I'm a size 0-3 depending on the company and I agree that even in the early 90's and 80's they didnt even make my size except for very high end labels so me and my sisters wore very baggy clothes or we shopped in the sears girl section which was quite good at the time, (and probably still is) Now most retailers make small sizes but there are still some stores that their smallest is too big. I have a sewing machine which I use to make my off the rack clothes fit if need be.

YAY!! I'm back from NY today, and WOW I just had a fabulous time! You lucky lucky girls that live there, I hope you all take complete and utter advantage of all the goodies available to you. Street vendors??? Freakin AWESOME!!
9.gif

Momoftwo, I never said you attacked reena. I assumed you would know I meant MelissaSue, since that's who you were going after. No matter. And of COURSE nobody LOVES waiting. *I* don't even LOVE waiting. I am enjoying it as an exciting time in my life, but I'd enjoy a ring even more!!
9.gif
It would be rather like... Christmas is coming, and you shop and you plan and you sing Christmas carols and people wrap presents and put them under the tree, and then you go to bed on Christmas Eve and when you wake up, all excited to open your presents and eat turkey till you're stuffed, somebody says, "Oh, hey, we moved Christmas. It'll be next week sometime." So you're disappointed, and you wait for next week. Then next week someone says, "Oh, it just wasn't working out right. But we'll have Christmas in the next three months, I promise!" And so you wait, wondering when in that three months you'll get to open the presents you've been looking at, when you'll get to cook that damn turkey sitting in the freezer, when you'll get to celebrate the special day with your family and friends. And you have no control over it. You're all ready, you're prepared with gifts and food and CDs full of music, but you can't start the party until some random person says "Ok! NOW it's Christmas!"

Heh heh, try pulling that on your kids this Christmas and see how they respond!
2.gif

goldengirl - Glad to hear you had a wonderful trip to NY! And i love the Christmas analogy... its perfect.

Congrats, rfath!! I'm running a day behind, playing catch-up from my vacay, so it's likely you've already got pics up and in which case I'll be over there soon...but in the meantime, HOORAY for you!! I'm so glad, especially after your less-than-stellar week!
9.gif
Edited to add: just went through the ring photos. Gorgeous! I love simple, beautiful designs and you really capitalized on that!

Lauren the P--welcome! Whew, you think you've got 3 more years to wait? You might end up the president of the ladies' club before you get your ring!
2.gif
Congrats on moving in together, we just took that step in September.
1.gif
I had lived with an ex once, and it was SUCH a MISERABLE experience I swore I'd never live with a bf again...but of course, things are 180-degrees-different with this one, and it's been the best experience ever! I think you'll be golden, since you've already been together 2 years. Where do you live now, if you're from Vegas? ...and I know what you mean, sometimes I wish we'd just run off and get hitched at a drive-through chapel and ignore all the brouhaha...but I know my mother would kill me if I tried.
2.gif

Welcome to you too, firerock! Look at it this way....at least you've got your rings practically done! Some of us are still waiting to find the setting that "speaks" to us!!

what do you think of this .... a pink one!

LOL, ginger--I was only there Wednesday, so I don't have much in the way of hints or tips. I flew in from Phoenix, my mom & sister flew in from Salt Lake City, and my aunt drove down from Pittsburgh; we just met in the City for fun and a play.

We saw Wicked....IT WAS FREAKING AMAZING!! I had never even heard of it before, which is crazy because I guess it's been the biggest thing on Broadway for a year now... but it was incredible, probably the best musical I've seen since Les Mis. HIGHLY recommended.

"Strangely enough", the theatre was just blocks away from the diamond district, so we did quite a bit of window-shopping...
naughty.gif
...made me wonder, though, when I tried on an eternity band marked at $685, and before I could say anything the saleslady had brought the price down to $275, and when I declined to purchase (I really only was window-shopping) she offered to lower the price even more if I would buy it. A band marked at $685 drops to less than $200 in the space of two minutes? Really made me wonder about the quality!
eek.gif

We had a great time, though. We had lunch at Bubba Gump's and after the play we browsed Saks... we all got our makeup done, and everybody else in my party walked off looking natural and radiant and fabulous and I left looking like a two-bit hooker!!
6.gif
First thing I did was scrub the crap off. Avoid the bleach-blonde Latina at the clinics counter!!!!
errrr.gif

That's the quick sum of my 24-hours in the Big Apple. First time there, but I had a good time! Definitely will be taking fi-to-be back for a, er, "play".
naughty.gif

Here is something that made me laugh as I was browsing the Monique L'Huillier collection (bad, bad!)

My only explanation is that this model REALLY pissed off the makeup artist... maybe she slept with his boyfriend?

awful makeup.jpg

Here she comes again... poor thing. She even looks like she wants to cry...

awful makeup2.jpg

Choo Choo - It looks to me as though she got a really nasty sunburn the day before the fashion show/ photo shoot.. Your explanation is possible too.. It is funny though..
GoldenGirl - I wanna go to NYC!!!Your trip sounds like so much fun. Ihaven't seen Wicked yet. My sister has seen it though and loved it.. I definitely want to go to see a show, and would like to go gown shopping there too. I have a friend that goes to Columbia, I should just go and stay with her for a weekend.. I wouldn't be able to live there though. I can't deal with large amounts of people. My mom and sister went last year, right before christmas, and they had wanted me to go, but they both said that they were glad that I didn't because I would have HATED IT. They said everything was just people jam-packed EVERYWHERE.

As far as clothing sizes go, I am dreading especially dress shopping for wedding gowns, and even my bridesmaid dress for my best friends weddding. According to all of my measurements (due to my big rib cage and my lack of a waist) I measure out to like a size 10! I don't want to wear a 10! I'll feel fat. I remember when my sister got married, I was 15 and weighed.. i don't know.. 110lbs.. and they made me get a size 7 gown. It WAS gigantic, even after they altered it. And my mom, who is built the same way as me, was in a wedding a few years ago.. She's about 5'3", 130-140lbs and they made her order a size 18!!! She has the same rib cage issue as me, She is skinny, but wears a 38 for bra size.. which I think is so weird. I know I shouldn't care about what "size" I wear.. but it really does mess with your head..

Well, thats all I have for now.
1.gif

Melissa

I have a size negative 4 upper body, a size 2-10 bottom, depending on whether or not the cut accomodates a ghetto booty. I used to freak out and obsess about what size I had to wear, but now I'm so disgusted by the lack of standardization I don't give a fig.

On a related note, I must rant a bit about the Gap. I have been buying jeans there since I was 11, and the Reverse fit in a 2 ankle has always been my go-to jean. For the last 4 years or so, the Gap is like an alien planet to me. Pink marabou and baby blue camo everywhere. What the heckfire have they done to my Gap!!!!!

Edited to add that I realize that I sound like one of those women I despise who like to discuss how small they are, and disingenuously pretend they aren't. I must disclose that I am a shrimpy Chinese chick, with a big ass ( oxymoronic, I know). I have meat on my bod, just small-peasant-sparrow bones.

yeah i am so not loving the gap these days either.
errrr.gif

I am always very hit or miss with Gap. Sometimes they have tons of cute things and othertimes I go in there and am like.. YUCK.. I don't do their jeans. I have one pair of dress pants from there, but I like my express ones better. But I just bought an AWESOME blazer there yesterday, and they had really cute shirts to go underenath them, but the blazer was so expensive that I couldn't buy anything else!!!

MelissaSue - when i was younger and not knowing if i'd ever get married, my friend and i went wedding gown shopping for the heck of it. And to my surprise... all the wedding dresses run in a much small fitting than regular clothes. My weight back then was around 105lb. and they had me try on size 7 or 8. So don't freak out about the number... remember, it's just a number! As long as you look beautiful in it and you are comfortable wearing it then get it. I figure... every step of the way to the alter will be difficult b/c i am so picky. Sometimes i can't explain or describe what i'm looking for until i see IT. and you say..."AH, THAT'S THE ONE!!" I just hope finding a dress isn't going to take as long as my e-ring!!
